Aled arrives at the hospital, carrying a large balloon and Dani wakes up;

“Of course he is – he’s my brother!” Aled tells her, “And he’s fast asleep.”
“He’s so perfect, Al,” she murmurs and Aled cannot believe that he really has a little brother.

Dani is OK, thanks to Vicky, although things got rather hectic in the end,

"It's a different birthday present" |
and he regards it as a different birthday present.

"You ought to have seen Seren and Gwern with him" |
“You ought to have seen Seren and Gwern with him earlier – Seren was just like she had a new dolly and they were arguing over what to call it,” Dani continues, “Gwern wants Kieffer – after Kieffer Moore – and Seren wants Deian, after Deian a Loli.”

Aled enquires what Dani wants to call him, but she is still not sure,

except that she wants the middle name to be Aled.

In the chippy flat, Colin is carefully arranging the cushions on the sofa, and Britt assures him he does not have to go back to work today, as it is still a bit early. He insists that he wants to;

“It’s only an hour or two later in the day, anyway.”

"You don't need to go in when Lois is leaving" |
Britt adds that he does not need to go in on the day Lois is leaving, but he says it will take his mind off things. The buzzer sounds and Lois comes up the stairs.

She comments that the bacon smells nice, and is told that her goodbye breakfast is almost ready;

“It will be different to breakfast in Thailand, guaranteed,” Colin tells her, and Britt says it is a pity she cannot stay longer.

“I have to go now – with the school in Thailand so close to Izzy’s heart, it’s what she’d want,” Lois replies.

She receives a phone call |
Then she receives a phone call, and goes downstairs to answer it, as Britt instructs Colin to sit down,

because there is a full Welsh breakfast on the way. He is obviously not looking forward to Lois’ departure.

Eifion rushes across to Lois |
Eifion is walking along the street when he sees Lois, who has stepped outside to answer the call;

"I'm on my way to see Mathew" |
she says that she is on her way to see Mathew, who has just phoned her.
She detects that something is wrong, and he says that he does not want to make things difficult for her;

"I think he planned for you two to be alone" |
“The Deri last night – I think he planned for just you and him to be there.”

"Why would he do that?" |
She wonders why Mathew would do that, and he replies, “It’s not my place to say –

“just watch him – I know it’s a terrible thing to say, but I’m thinking of you.”

"I might ask Dad to come with me" |
She thinks that she might ask her father to come up to the flat with her, which Eifion regards as a good idea, and again he apologises for making things awkward. She thanks him for being honest.

Sioned has paid a visit to Llwyncelyn; “Mam told me about your offer – listen, I just want the Cae Glas café to go ahead, and I want to know what I need to do to make that happen,” she tells Hywel.

He spells out his conditions; “Eileen just needs to convince the governors to drop the inquiry into Gaynor – and then I might not obstruct any of Cae Glas’ plans.”

"And what if she cannot persuade them?" |
She asks what happens if her mother cannot persuade them,

"You won't even develop a chicken coop!" |
and he goes on, “I’ve already explained I’m good friends with the planning officer – a word from me and you won’t even develop a chicken coop!”

She maintains that is against the rules, but he smugly informs her, “That’s the way things are – rules don’t matter –

She says they will agree with him |
She concedes that after everything Gaynor has been through, they can agree with him, and he is very pleased to hear it; he thanks her for calling.

She turns and is wearing a satisfied smile as she leaves the house; Hywel is also smiling as he thinks he has managed to get his own way.

DI Wilkinson is crossing the street just as Ffion emerges from the bookshop; “I wanted to talk to you,” she says,

Lois arrives at the shop flat and Mathew is delighted to see her;

“I wasn’t expecting your father to be here, and I don’t think he really wants to be here,” says Mathew.

“The thing is, I’m trying to sort Izzy’s clothes out – I wanted you to pick what you wanted, but I was worried it would be too much for Colin.”

Mathew tells her she does not have to take anything, but he wanted to give her a chance before he donates it all to charity.

She becomes rather tearful as she looks at the sister’s clothes;

When Colin returns to their flat, Britt can see that he is not all right.

“I just couldn’t do it, not today!” he frets, and she assures him he does not have to do anything. “In that flat, I just couldn’t – I couldn’t be there – I was thinking of Izzy everywhere,”

but he is told that is only natural.

"And Lois won't have this test" |
“And now Lois is leaving – and she won’t have this test!” he exclaims, “It doesn’t make an ounce of sense.”
Britt reminds him of when the children were young, all the potty training and the tantrums, the lack of sleep;

“None of that is as difficult as letting them go when they grow up.”

Colin insists that he just wants to look after her, to protect her, and Britt points out that of course he does, because he is a good father.

“But the most important step – and the most difficult step – is letting them go.

“I’ll make you a cup of tea before you start your shift, all right?”

As Lois looks at another garment, she recalls, “I was with her when she bought this, in that vintage shop in Carmarthen.”
Mathew says that she wore that on their first official date, and remarks that it is hard enough to get rid of the dresses and smart clothes,

but it is even harder to throw away the pyjamas and joggers. “The things she wore when it was just the two of us.”

Lois insists that he does not have to do that now, but can take more time over it; he maintains that having them in the wardrobe is worse than getting rid of them. “I bought her this – I thought the colour would go with her hair,” Lois says, and Mathew invites her to keep it, as it also goes with her hair.

and Dani cannot help looking at him. She is rather sore and does not know how to thank Vicky after everything;

Vicky tell her to forget about the past, and Dani is sorry for what she said about Mathew.

It was not the birth that Dani had been hoping for, but she is told by Vicky that she was amazing;

When Colin, downstairs in the shop, is told about what happened, he is furious; “His head’s all over the place, but it’s not an excuse to make a pass at you!” he growls.

Lois explains that they were just talking about Izzy, and he continues, “You were just being nice, not flirting over your sister’s clothes.”

Mathew comes down, and is told that it is not a good idea for him to be there at the moment; “I’m so sorry, Lois – you were upset and I was trying to comfort you – holding you, like I would your sister.

“I’m sorry – I had hoped we could be friends – and only friends. You’re a link to Izzy, and I’m not ready to let her go yet. I know we weren’t in each other’s lives for long, but I did love her – and I’m sorry if I gave you the wrong impression.”

Lois now feels guilty, but her father advises that she should not worry about him; “You’ve got packing to do – the sooner you get out of this hole, the better.”

Sioned angrily tells her mother, “Hywel’s got a nerve! If the council knew half the things he says!”

“Don’t worry, I said you’re willing to do what he asked – persuade the governors to drop the inquiry. It makes sense to stay on Hywel’s good side – bigger picture, Mam – if we ever want to develop Penrhewl, or we want to stop other farms from getting planning permission, we’ve got a friend on the council.”

Eifion maintains that he what he said was the truth.

“You ruined things for Izzy, and now you’re ruining things for the people who loved her most!” Mathew shouts.

Eifion replies that he is lashing out at the people who care about him; “Carry on like this and there’ll be no-one left to look after you!” he snarls, and walks off.

Ffion arrives home, where Jinx is watching the television; “I would ask how it went, but judging by that smile,

“PC Plod did all right!” he comments.
She exclaims that they have so much in common and spoke all night about nothing;

“And he’s an alcoholic as well!” she adds, without much evidence, “It was such a relief to . . .”

Jinx asks if he actually said that,

"Well, not exactly" |
and she answers, “Not exactly, but he said he doesn’t drink alcohol – he didn’t have to say, because there’s a connection between us.” Jinx was under the impression they were meeting to discuss school, but she is quite convinced that it was more like a date.

He wonders if this is wise; “Two alcoholics together?” but she insists it make sense to have a partner who knows what she is talking about – not that they are partners, yet,
