Aled arrives at the hospital

Aled arrives at the hospital, carrying a large balloon and Dani wakes up;  

He looks at his brother

he takes a look at his little brother and she says that he is gorgeous.   

"Isn't he gorgeous?"

“Of course he is – he’s my brother!” Aled tells her, “And he’s fast asleep.”

“He’s so perfect, Al,” she murmurs and Aled cannot believe that he really has a little brother.   

"It was rather hectic in the end"

Dani is OK, thanks to Vicky, although things got rather hectic in the end, 

"It's a different birthday present"

and he regards it as a different birthday present.

"You ought to have seen Seren and Gwern with him"

“You ought to have seen Seren and Gwern with him earlier – Seren was just like she had a new dolly and they were arguing over what to call it,” Dani continues, “Gwern wants Kieffer – after Kieffer Moore – and Seren wants Deian, after Deian a Loli.”   

"But what do you want to call him?"

Aled enquires what Dani wants to call him, but she is still not sure, 

"His middle name is Aled"

except that she wants the middle name to be Aled.   

Aled is humbled by this

He is very touched by this gesture.

Colin is cushion arranging

In the chippy flat, Colin is carefully arranging the cushions on the sofa, and Britt assures him he does not have to go back to work today, as it is still a bit early.   He insists that he wants to;  

"It's only an hour or two, anyway"

“It’s only an hour or two later in the day, anyway.”   

"You don't need to go in when Lois is leaving"

Britt adds that he does not need to go in on the day Lois is leaving, but he says it will take his mind off things.   The buzzer sounds and Lois comes up the stairs.

Britt is preparing breakfast

She comments that the bacon smells nice, and is told that her goodbye breakfast is almost ready;  

"It will be different to breakfast in Thailand, guaranteed!"

“It will be different to breakfast in Thailand, guaranteed,” Colin tells her, and Britt says it is a pity she cannot stay longer.

"The school was so close to Izzy's heart"

“I have to go now – with the school in Thailand so close to Izzy’s heart, it’s what she’d want,” Lois replies.   

She receives a phone call

Then she receives a phone call, and goes downstairs to answer it, as Britt instructs Colin to sit down, 

"Full Welsh breakfast on the way, Col"

because there is a full Welsh breakfast on the way.   He is obviously not looking forward to Lois’ departure.

Eifion rushes across to Lois

Eifion is walking along the street when he sees Lois, who has stepped outside to answer the call;  

"I'm on my way to see Mathew"

she says that she is on her way to see Mathew, who has just phoned her.   

She detects that something is wrong, and he says that he does not want to make things difficult for her;  

"I think he planned for you two to be alone"

“The Deri last night – I think he planned for just you and him to be there.”   

"Why would he do that?"

She wonders why Mathew would do that, and he replies, “It’s not my place to say – 

"Just watch him!"

“just watch him – I know it’s a terrible thing to say, but I’m thinking of you.”

"I might ask Dad to come with me"

She thinks that she might ask her father to come up to the flat with her, which Eifion regards as a good idea, and again he apologises for making things awkward.   She thanks him for being honest.

"Mam told me about your offer"

Sioned has paid a visit to Llwyncelyn;  “Mam told me about your offer – listen, I just want the Cae Glas café to go ahead, and I want to know what I need to do to make that happen,” she tells Hywel.

"They must drop the inquiry"

He spells out his conditions;  “Eileen just needs to convince the governors to drop the inquiry into Gaynor – and then I might not obstruct any of Cae Glas’ plans.”   

"And what if she cannot persuade them?"

She asks what happens if her mother cannot persuade them, 

"You won't even develop a chicken coop!"

and he goes on, “I’ve already explained I’m good friends with the planning officer – a word from me and you won’t even develop a chicken coop!”

"But that's against the rules"

She maintains that is against the rules, but he smugly informs her, “That’s the way things are – rules don’t matter – 

"It's who you know, Sioned"

“it’s who you know, Sioned.”   

She says they will agree with him

She concedes that after everything Gaynor has been through, they can agree with him, and he is very pleased to hear it;  he thanks her for calling.   

They both think they have won this round

She turns and is wearing a satisfied smile as she leaves the house;  Hywel is also smiling as he thinks he has managed to get his own way.

Ffion encounters Wilko again . . .

DI Wilkinson is crossing the street just as Ffion emerges from the bookshop;  “I wanted to talk to you,” she says, 

. . . on the pretext of asking him to speak the sixth form

“I wondered if you would be interested in coming into the school to talk to the sixth form – about online safety, perhaps.”   

He agrees to her request

He reluctantly agrees, 

"We could discuss it over a drink"

and she suggests they could discuss it over a drink, perhaps tonight.

He is not sure about this

"I'm being rather pushy, aren't I?"

and she realises that she is being pushy;  

"I'll see you at the Deri about six"

he agrees that he will see her in the Deri after work, about six.   

Ffion looks well pleased

Ffion regards this as a major victory.

Lois arrives at the shop flat . . .

Lois arrives at the shop flat and Mathew is delighted to see her;  

. . . but Colin is also there

however he is less pleased when Colin follows her in.   

"I don't think he really wants to be here"

“I wasn’t expecting your father to be here, and I don’t think he really wants to be here,” says Mathew.   

No, he certainly does not, and cannot wait to go

Colin is pleased to seize the opportunity to leave again, although Lois had wanted him to stay.   

“I’m really sorry – I don’t want to hurt Colin’s feelings, but I don’t want to upset him either,” Mathew goes on, 

"I'm trying to sort Izzy's clothes out"

“The thing is, I’m trying to sort Izzy’s clothes out – I wanted you to pick what you wanted, but I was worried it would be too much for Colin.”

This is not what Lois had been expecting;  

"You don't have to take anything"

Mathew tells her she does not have to take anything, but he wanted to give her a chance before he donates it all to charity.   

Lois gets rather emotional

She becomes rather tearful as she looks at the sister’s clothes;  

"Do you think it will fit?"

“Do you think it will fit?” she asks, 

"It's perfect"

and he says it is perfect.

Colin is in a state when he gets back

When Colin returns to their flat, Britt can see that he is not all right.   

"I couldn't do it – not today!"

“I just couldn’t do it, not today!” he frets, and she assures him he does not have to do anything.   “In that flat, I just couldn’t – I couldn’t be there – I was thinking of Izzy everywhere,” 

"That's only natural, Col"

but he is told that is only natural.

"And Lois won't have this test"

“And now Lois is leaving – and she won’t have this test!” he exclaims, “It doesn’t make an ounce of sense.”   

Britt reminds him of when the children were young, all the potty training and the tantrums, the lack of sleep;  

"It's letting them go when they grow up"

“None of that is as difficult as letting them go when they grow up.”

"I just want to protect her, Britt"

Colin insists that he just wants to look after her, to protect her, and Britt points out that of course he does, because he is a good father.   

"The most difficult step is letting them go"

“But the most important step – and the most difficult step – is letting them go.   

Britt will make him a cup of tea

“I’ll make you a cup of tea before you start your shift, all right?”

"I was with her when she bought this"

As Lois looks at another garment, she recalls, “I was with her when she bought this, in that vintage shop in Carmarthen.”   

Mathew says that she wore that on their first official date, and remarks that it is hard enough to get rid of the dresses and smart clothes, 

"It's harder to throw away the pyjamas"

but it is even harder to throw away the pyjamas and joggers.   “The things she wore when it was just the two of us.”

"You don't have to do it now, Mathew"

Lois insists that he does not have to do that now, but can take more time over it;  he maintains that having them in the wardrobe is worse than getting rid of them.   “I bought her this – I thought the colour would go with her hair,” Lois says, and Mathew invites her to keep it, as it also goes with her hair.

She begins to cry . . .

She dissolves into tears 

. . . and Mathew is about to give her a cwtch

and he is about to give her a hug, 

"What are you doing?"

but she demands what he is doing;  

"I was trying to comfort you"

“You were upset – I was just trying to comfort you,” he replies, 

"Eifion was right!"

and she exclaims that Eifion was right, and quickly walks out of the flat, as he shouts for her to come back.

Dani has another visitor

Now Vicky arrives at the hospital to see Dani and the baby;  

Vicky finds him gorgeous

she also describes the baby as, “Gorgeous!” 

"I can't help looking at him"

and Dani cannot help looking at him.   She is rather sore and does not know how to thank Vicky after everything;  

"I don't know what would have happened"

“I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t been there.”

Vicky tell her to forget about the past, and Dani is sorry for what she said about Mathew.   

"The baby's arrived and you're both fine"

“Forget about it now – the baby’s arrived, and you’re both fine.”   

"Not the birth I had been hoping for"

It was not the birth that Dani had been hoping for, but she is told by Vicky that she was amazing;  

"You were like Wonder Woman!"

“The way your body knew what to do – you were like Wonder Woman!   

"Look at this cute outfit"

“Look at this cute outfit I’ve bought him,” and Dani thanks her.

"That's not an excuse to make a pass at you!"

When Colin, downstairs in the shop, is told about what happened, he is furious;  “His head’s all over the place, but it’s not an excuse to make a pass at you!” he growls.   

"We were just talking about Izzy"

Lois explains that they were just talking about Izzy, and he continues, “You were just being nice, not flirting over your sister’s clothes.”

"I'm so sorry, Lois"

Mathew comes down, and is told that it is not a good idea for him to be there at the moment;  “I’m so sorry, Lois – you were upset and I was trying to comfort you – holding you, like I would your sister.   

"I hoped we could be friends – and only friends"

“I’m sorry – I had hoped we could be friends – and only friends.   You’re a link to Izzy, and I’m not ready to let her go yet.   I know we weren’t in each other’s lives for long, but I did love her – and I’m sorry if I gave you the wrong impression.” 

Lois is also sorry

Lois also apologises, having over-thought what Eifion said;  

"That Eifion needs to stop interfering"

Mathew is adamant that Eifion needs to stop interfering, 

"I'm sure he meant no harm"

but Lois is sure that he meant no harm.   Mathew is not so sure about that;  

"Someone needs to have a word with him!"

“Someone needs to have a word with him,” and he marches out of the shop.

"You've got packing to do"

Lois now feels guilty, but her father advises that she should not worry about him;  “You’ve got packing to do – the sooner you get out of this hole, the better.”   

"Thanks for everything, Dad – I love you"

She thanks her father for everything, 

"And I love you"

and he assures her of his love for her.

"That Hywel's got a nerve!"

Sioned angrily tells her mother, “Hywel’s got a nerve!   If the council knew half the things he says!”   

"What did you say to him?"

Eileen wonders what she said to him;   

"That you were willing to do what he asked"

“Don’t worry, I said you’re willing to do what he asked – persuade the governors to drop the inquiry.   It makes sense to stay on Hywel’s good side – bigger picture, Mam – if we ever want to develop Penrhewl, or we want to stop other farms from getting planning permission, we’ve got a friend on the council.”

"Hywel Llywelyn – a friend?"

Eileen is rather sceptical about referring to Hywel Llywelyn as a ‘friend’.   

"I let him think he's won"

“I let him think he’s won, but he’ll always be grateful to us for this,” Sioned insists, “And we have the power for Cae Glas and Penrhewl!”

"Thanks for agreeing to come to school"

In the Deri, Ffion and ‘Wilko’ are sitting at a table, and she thanks him for agreeing to come to the school;  he says that it is part of his job to help the community.   

"All coppers on the television drink wine"

She remarks that coppers on the television all drink wine, but he maintains, “That’s true of many detectives, 

"It's not healthy, so I don't drink"

“but it’s not healthy, so I don’t drink.”

"I don't drink either"

She seizes upon this, “I don’t drink either – we’ve got so much in common!   Look, I really have enjoyed myself tonight.”   As he leaves, he says that he will text her – 

"To organise when I come to school"

to organise when he will come to the school, and bids her good night.   

Ffion thinks her luck has changed

Ffion is looking optimistic.

"Leave me alone, all right?"

Mathew is passing APD when Eifion comes out;  Mathew urges him, “Leave me alone, all right?   

"I don't know who you think you are"

“I don’t know who you think you are, spreading rumours about me.   You should have seen the way Lois looked at me!”   

"What I said was the truth"

Eifion maintains that he what he said was the truth.

"You ruined things for Izzy!"

“You ruined things for Izzy, and now you’re ruining things for the people who loved her most!” Mathew shouts.

"And you're lashing out at the people who are about you!"

Eifion replies that he is lashing out at the people who care about him;  “Carry on like this and there’ll be no-one left to look after you!” he snarls, and walks off.

Ffion arrives home with a smile

Ffion arrives home, where Jinx is watching the television;  “I would ask how it went, but judging by that smile, 

"PC Plod did all right!"

“PC Plod did all right!” he comments.   

She exclaims that they have so much in common and spoke all night about nothing;  

"And he's an alcoholic as well"

“And he’s an alcoholic as well!” she adds, without much evidence, “It was such a relief to . . .”

"Did he say that?"

Jinx asks if he actually said that, 

"Well, not exactly"

and she answers, “Not exactly, but he said he doesn’t drink alcohol – he didn’t have to say, because there’s a connection between us.”   Jinx was under the impression they were meeting to discuss school, but she is quite convinced that it was more like a date.

"Is that wise – two alcoholics together?"

He wonders if this is wise;  “Two alcoholics together?” but she insists it make sense to have a partner who knows what she is talking about – not that they are partners, yet, 

"It's only a matter of time"

but she is convinced that it is only a matter of time.   She goes off to have a bath, and Jinx ponders about the matter.

Mathew looks at Izzy's clothes . . .

Back in the flat, Mathew looks at one of Izzy’s jumpers and and then makes a phone call;  

. . . leaves a message for Vicky . . . 

he leaves a message.  “Vicky, it’s Mathew here.   Do you fancy meeting tomorrow?   Just let me know, please, text me.”   

. . . looks at the portrait . . .

He puts down the phone and looks across at the portrait of him and Izzy,   

. . . and weeps

then breaks down in tears.
