'Arwen's not in her bed!"

Ffion discovers that Arwen is not in her bed, so Jinx surmises that she may have gone to see one of her friends.   “This early?   Arwen’s spent the whole holiday lazing in her bed, more or less,” worries Ffion,

"Well, phone her, then"

so she is advised to ring her daughter.

Her phone has been confiscated

Ffion produces the confiscated phone, which she explains was a punishment for trying to run away to North Wales.

"She'll be back by lunchtime"

Jinx is confident that wherever she is, she will not have gone far without her phone, and will probably be back by lunchtime.

"Something's wrong, Jinx!"

Ffion is convinced that something is wrong;  “I’m going to look for her – can you do the same, please?”   Jinx is wondering where she could have gone.

Number 9 is looking rather cluttered

At number 9, a great number of cardboard boxes has arrived, which comes as a surprise to Cassie.   Tesni apologises

"Anita wants to move back in"

and Gwyneth explains that forensics have finished at number 10 and Anita wants to move back in.   “I’ll sort it all out as soon as I can,” Tesni promises, but Gwyneth realises that going through all this stuff will not be easy.

"Wouldn't it be better to put it into storage?"

“Wouldn’t it be better to put it into storage to give you time to sort it out?” suggests Cassie,

She looks at a photo . . .

and then she notices of photo in one of the boxes;

. . . of Jaclyn with Dylan

“It’s your Mam – it’s caught her smile.   When was this taken?”

Tesni does not know – or care

Tesni does not know, and as the photo also includes Dylan, she says that she does not care either;  “I’m not going to store anything – I’ll sort it all out today – I’ll be fine.”

"Come on, Gwern – focus!"

Ffion has gone to see Dani, who asks Gwern when he last saw Arwen;  “Focus – this is important!” she snaps, but he cannot help,

"It was ages ago"

as it was ages ago.

"Can you contact your friends?"

Ffion asks if he will do her a favour and contact his friends to see if anyone knows where Arwen is.   He agrees, but is about to put on his headphones again,

Dani provokes him into action

so Dani shouts, “Now, Gwern!   Phone, text, please!”   She assures Ffion that she will contact her if she hears anything.

"Something to put a smile on my face?"

Mark is on his post round when he meets Gaynor, and she hopes that he has something in his bag to put a smile on her face.

"I thought Cai was doing that!"

“I thought that Cai was doing that!” he cheekily replies, “A little bird told me he gets a warm welcome in Llwyncelyn.”

"Hywel, I presume"

She assumes that the ‘little bird’ is Hywel, but he denies this, and will not tell her who it is, so she refuses to accept the post,

"Go and deliver it to Llwyncelyn!"

instead telling him, “Go and deliver it to Llwyncelyn – that’s what you’re paid for!”

"There's a list over there"

As soon as Britt arrives at Penrhewl, Eileen indicates a list she has printed;  “So I don’t have to explain everything, that’s the list of things I want you to do.”

Britt peruses the list of tasks

Britt says that they understand each other perfectly, and then Eileen notices something on the laptop which concerns her;

"I can't believe it!"

“I can’t believe it!” she exclaims, “A chain of pubs wants Cae Glas to supply them!   Can you imagine how much businesses that would be?”

"High praise from the customers"

She reads out the e-mail, “We understand that you already supply the Deri Arms in Cwmderi and that there is high praise from the customers about the standard of the produce.

"£100,000?"

“Do you have any idea how much a contract like that is worth?   £100,000!”

"Thanks to that interview I did"

“And that’s thanks to me,” says Britt, “That interview I did with the Western Post brought in this mega-contract – so where’s my cut?”   Eileen thinks she is joking;

"Do I look like a comedian?"

“Do I look like a comedian?” demands Britt, but is told that she will not be getting a share.

"Sioned and I are the shareholders"

“Sioned and I are the company’s shareholders – stop your nonsense!”   Britt regards this as very unfair, and insists that she only wants what is due to her.

"Any solicitor will tell you"

“If you don’t believe me, go to any solicitor, and you’ll get exactly the same answer from them,” Eileen snarls.

"Right, if that's how you're going to be"

“OK, if that’s how you’re going to be, that’s exactly what I’ll do,” Britt tells her, as she takes off her apron,

Britt threatens a fight . . .

“And I bet you will have to pay me through the nose!”

. . . and leaves the farm

She marches out of the farmhouse.

"You are still looking, aren't you?"

Out in the street, Ffion contacts Jinx to ask if there is any news;  “You are still looking, aren’t you?”   Gaynor passes the bookshop, with a grim look on her face,

Someone attracts Gaynor's attention

when she hears a tap on the bookshop window.

"What have you been telling people about us?"

It is Cai, who comes out and asks her why she is looking so glum;  “What have you been telling people about us?” she demands, “Why was Mark all mouth earlier?   The story must be spreading like wildfire.”

He reminds her that it is not just the two of them that know,

"It must have been you"

and she is confident that neither Hywel nor Dani would say anything – so it must have been him.

"I might have mentioned something to Rhys"

He admits, “I might have mentioned something to Rhys, but not a word to anyone else.   All I did was explain that you and Hywel had an ‘open relationship’.”

Gaynor imagines that Rhys was pleased to hear that;

"Why do you have to be such an idiot?"

“Why do you have to be such an idiot?”   Cai cannot see any problem, as she is not cheating on Rhys’ father.   “I can’t decide whether you’re completely stupid or completely malicious!” she growls, “Do you have any idea how embarrassing this is for me?”

"Let's go for a walk"

He suggests that they go for a walk, but she has no intention of doing that,

"I never want your company ever again!"

“And I never want your company ever again – so stay away!”   Cai simply laughs at this rejection.

Kath's recovery is going well

Kath’s rehabilitation exercises are going well, supervised by Andrea, and she sinks to the chair, exhausted.

"That's excellent, Kath!"

She is praised for her excellent progress;  Andrea slips upstairs for a moment.

Mark comes in for a cup of tea

Mark comes in through the back door;  “Do you mind if I have a quick cup of tea?” he asks,

"Put Andrea's phone on mute, will you?"

and Kath asks him to put Andrea’s phone on mute, as someone has been hassling her all morning.

"The exercises are really making a difference"

“The exercises are making a difference, I’m telling you,” she continues, “I can really feel my legs strengthening.”

Mark copies Alexander's phone number

Meanwhile he picks up Andrea’s phone, and copies a number to his phone, while maintaining that he is putting the kettle on.

Andrea comes back in

Andrea comes back downstairs from the toilet and is told that Mark is making a cup of tea.   Then she notices her phone;

"I'm sure I put this on charge"

“I’m sure I put this on to charge earlier,” she says, and Mark maintains that he wanted to charge his phone,

He looks pleased about his subterfuge

which extricates him from the sticky situation.

Jinx is at Cysgod y Glyn, continuing to phone people about Arwen’s absence, when Ffion returns.

"Something terrible's happened to her!"

“Something terrible’s happened to her – I can feel it!” she insists, “I don’t want food –

"I'm going to phone the cops"

I’m going to phone the cops.”

"Isn't it a bit early for that?"

Jinx thinks that it is a bit early for that, and she accuses him of not taking this seriously;  “You have no idea, don you?   You don’t see half the things that go on around you!   You just live in your own little world!

"You get away with everything!"

It doesn’t matter what you say or do – you get away with everything!   I’ve had a terrible time this summer!”

"I haven't had a great summer either, Ffion"

He points out that he has not had a great summer either,

"She saw us!"

and Ffion reveals, “She saw us – and she’s worried that I’m trying to push you away, so she’s punishing me!”

Jinx wonders why she has not told him this before;

"I could have told her that's not going to happen"

“I could have told Arwen that’s not going to happen.”   Ffion is quite convinced that Arwen would only find another reason to hate her mother.   “She doesn’t hate you,” says Jinx.

"You just make things worse between her and me!"

“Why else would she put vodka in my water bottle?” Ffion wails, “I’m trying so hard – and you’re making things worse between her and me.”

"So it's all my fault?"

As this degenerates into a row, he demands, “So it’s all my fault?   It’s everyone else’s fault apart from yours!”   He turns towards the door, and goes on, “I’m just making things worse, so what’s the point of me being here?”   He slams the door behind him

Ffion is even more upset

and Ffion is even more devastated.

Gaynor looks dejected

Gaynor sits at home, looking depressed, while music plays;  Hywel comes in, puts on the kettle

"I have some good news for you"

and turns off the radio.   “Well, I have some good news for you,” she says,

"It's all over between me and Cai"

“It’s all over between me and Cai – since this morning.”

"And how do you feel?"

He enquires how she feels, and she maintains that she is fine;

"It wasn't anything important, was it?"

“Well, it was my decision – and in any case, it wasn’t anything important, was it?”

"I hope you're happy with your decision"

Hywel hopes that she is happy with her decision;

"I've never felt better"

“I am – perfectly happy!” she answers, “I’ve never felt better,”

Hywel is amused

and as she goes upstairs, Hywel permits himself a smile.

"I didn't want Andrea to hear"

Andrea leaves Maes-y-Deri, and as soon as she has gone Mark comes back in;  “I’ve been out in the garden – I didn’t want Andrea to hear,” he says,

"I've just talked to her brother"

“I copied her brother’s phone number to my phone earlier.   I’ve just talked to him.”

"Don't start messing around in their business"

Kath is horrified;  “Mark, don’t start messing around in their business – do you hear me?”   Mark has arranged to meet him, but she insists that he should cancel.

“I just want a chat with him, all right?   Just to explain how much the family have hurt Andrea.

"Perhaps I can get them back together"

“Who knows, perhaps I can get them back together.”   Kath demands whether he thinks he is Gandhi,

"You're playing with fire, Mark"

and warns him that he is playing with fire.

"The last thing I asked Eifion to do!"

Cassie discovers that one of the barrels has run out;  “The last thing I asked Eifion to do was to change the barrel,” she moans to Gwyneth, “And what did he do?   Nothing – idiot!   You need the patience of a saint!”

Britt makes no comment

Britt is sitting at the end of the bar, but says nothing.

"So I'm getting a cut?"

Eileen comes in and addresses Britt, “OK, you’ve made your point,” so Britt assumes that she will be getting a cut of the money.

"Look, I pay a tidy salary"

“Listen, I pay a tidy salary, and you’ve got work to do, so come back to Penrhewl – we’ve got loads of orders.”

"Take a hike, Eileen!"

Britt was expecting more than this, and tells Eileen, “Take a hike!” whereupon Eileen storms out again.

"Problems in the workplace?"

Gwyneth detects some problems in the workplace,

"Mind your own business, Gwyneth!"

and Britt warns her to mind her own business.

"Whoever killed Jaclyn has killed her!"

Ffion is the next to enter, frantic with worry, as she can find no trace of Arwen;  “Whoever killed Jaclyn has killed her, haven’t they?” she groans.

"No-one would hurt Arwen"

Gwyneth assures her that no one would hurt Arwen, and she is bound to turn up.

"What reason did anyone have to kill Jaclyn?"

“What reason did anyone have to kill Jaclyn?” Ffion demands, “I’ll check with Dani and Gwern now – and then I’m phoning the police!”

Ffion is joyously reunited with her daughter

Suddenly Cassie walks in, accompanied by Arwen;  “Look who I found!” she announces, “She was in the cellar.”   Ffion is overjoyed and embraces her daughter,

"Gwern had given her the keys"

as Cassie goes on that she had the keys, which Gwern had given to her.

"Oi!   You're busted!"

Gwyneth heads upstairs to see Gwern;  “Oi!   You’re busted!   Why did you give those keys to Arwen?” she asks, “She was safe – in the cellar here – Cassie found her just now –

"This one gave her the keys to the cellar"

“but this one gave her the keys to the cellar in the first place.”

"I had no choice"

“She went on and one about hiding from her Mam – I had no choice,” he argues, and Dani points out to him that Ffion was really worried,

He is immediately grounded

so she is grounding him – no telly, no PlayStation, no nothing.

"Where does he get it from"

“Where does he get it from?” asks Gwyneth.

"I'm going to my room"

Back home at Cysgod y Glyn, Arwen says that she is going to her  room;  Ffion does not immediately reply,

"Let's have a chat first Arwen"

then asks if they can have a chat.

Arwen's phone is returned to her

Her phone is handed back to Arwen, and Ffion just wants to try and understand.

"You wanted to make me worry, didn't you?"

“You wanted to make me worry, didn’t you?” she begins, but Arwen shakes her head;

"This is really 'cringe', Mam"

she protests that this is really ‘cringe’ and wants to go to her room,

"What's going on in your head?"

but first her mother wants to know what is going on in her head.

"I didn't actually mean what I . . ."

“I think it’s just . . . after what you said about you and your addiction.   I didn’t actually mean what I . . . I just feel like an idiot, so I wanted to go, out of your way.”

Ffion confesses that she has felt like an idiot, too, loads of times;

"At least you only went to the cellar of the Deri"

“And I understand wanting to disappear – at least you only went to the cellar of the Deri, unlike me, who goes straight to the bottle.   Look, the point I’m trying to make is that you can never escape from who you are.   We all have to learn that.

"I'm only being nasty because I care about you"

“I’d hate to see you make a mess of things like I have, so, if you think I’m being nasty, I’m only being nasty because I care about you – and sometimes I’m going to get things wrong – and I’m sorry.”

She is becoming tearful

By now tears are coming to Ffion’s eyes.

The baby must be either Tesni or Guto

Tesni is looking at a photo of her mother, with a baby, and one of her DVDs;

She throws it into a box . . .

she throws them into one of the boxes, then, in a temper, kicks the boxes across the room.

. . . an ends up sobbing bitterly

Collapsing on top of them, she sobs bitterly.

"She's having a shower"

Jinx comes back and is told that Arwen is having a shower;  she is all right, which comes as a great relief to him,

"Why the cellar in the Deri?"

but he wonders why it was the cellar in the Deri.   “She felt ashamed about the vodka –

"We've had a chat to clear the air"

“and we’ve had a chat to clear the air – so hopefully, things will be better now,” Ffion tells him.

"I'm sorry about earlier"

She continues, “About earlier – I’m sorry,” and Jinx is about to say something, but thinks better of it.

"Be honest with me, Jinx"

She insists that he should be honest.

"When you're under pressure, you turn on me"

“Well, when you’re under pressure, you just turn on me.   Have you noticed?   It seems to be some sort of pattern, and I’m sick of it,” he says;

"No, it's not fair"

she agrees that it is not fair.

"We are family, aren't we?"

“When things get hard, we have to stick together – because we are family, aren’t we?” he adds.

"I'll try harder next time – I promise"

Ffion replies that she is sorry and promises that she will try harder next time.

Plenty of veg in the diet at number 9

As Gwyneth is cutting up vegetables at number 9, there is a knock at the door;  she finds that it is the DI, who is sorry to disturb her.

"Is Tesni Parri here?"

“Is Tesni Parri here?” she asks, and is told that she has gone for a walk.

"Can I help in any way?"

Gwyneth asks if she can help in any way, but the DI need to speak to her  and will come back tomorrow.

Gwyneth asks a lot of questions . . .

“Have you found out something new?   Do you know if it’s someone local?” enquires Gwyneth,

. . . which rouses suspicions

which rouses the officer’s suspicions that she knows something.

"I'm not being nosy, but . . . you know"

“No, I haven’t heard anything,” says Gwyneth, and it is assumed that she is just interested.   “Yes, everyone round here is interested – sorry, I’m not being nosy, but . . . you know.”

"We'll see each other again"

“We’ll see each other again,” predicts DI Fielding as she leaves the house,

"Made rather a mess of that, didn't I?"

and Gwyneth is looking really worried now.
