1 January 2020 (1st)

Jaclyn lies unconscious in the road . . .
In the aftermath of the accident, Dylan shouts Jaclyn’s name and an ambulance is called;
. . . and Diane cannot believe what happened
meanwhile Diane sits motionless in the car with a look of horror on her face.
Gwyneth calls for some blankets
Gwyneth insists that they need to keep Jaclyn warm, and shouts to someone to bring blankets.   Gerwyn comes out of number 10 and wants to know what happened, then Cassie arrives on the scene.
Dai and the police are on the scene . . .
The police are the first to arrive, and Diane moans to Dai, “I’ve killed her!”
. . . and are followed by an ambulance
Gerwyn assures Jaclyn that help is on the way, and an ambulance pulls up.
After their dalliance, Kelly fastens her blouse . . .
Meanwhile in the café flat, as the sirens can be heard outside, Kelly is buttoning up her blouse,
. . . while Jason is still shirtless
while Jason has yet to put on his shirt;  he asks, “Are you all right?” and she confirms that she is.
"Sounds as if someone's having fun tonight"
“It sounds as if someone’s having fun tonight,” he adds.
Kelly suggests, “Two for one cocktails in the Deri have pushed someone over the edge.”
He looks appreciatively at Kelly
After watching Kelly tuck her blouse into her skirt, he thinks he had better venture out and see what is going on, to check that it is nothing serious;
"I'll be back in a minute"
he will be back in a minute, and kisses her.
The ambulance crew are dealing with Jaclyn . . .
Jaclyn has been immobilised and Gerwyn tells the ambulance crew that there is no history of health problems;  they assure him that she will be all right.
. . . and prepare to put her in the ambulance
While she is being loaded into the ambulance,
Diane is given a routine breath test
a police officer tests Diane for alcohol, and Dai assures Jason that she has had nothing to drink at all.
Indeed the test is clear, but Diane has to give a statement, and is advised to go and wait in the Deri.   Dai cannot believe that this is really happening, and helps Diane from the car.   Gerwyn will go in the ambulance,
Dylan will follow in his car
and Dylan will follow in his car.
"This has a kick in it!"
Inside the Deri, Dani is still producing her cocktails, which seem to be going down well with Gwen, Beti and Llinos, who comments that hers has a kick in it.
"Brandy for Brenda, please, Dani"
Cassie asks Dani to get Brenda a brandy,
Gwyneth has been affected by what she saw
and Gwyneth is also very subdued,
Diane is shaking with shock
Diane comes in, with Dai and Jason on either side of her, and is shaking uncontrollably.
"Jaclyn walked into the road without looking!"
Gwyneth tells Jason that she saw the whole thing;  “Jaclyn just walked into the road without looking.”   He says that she needs to make sure the police know this.
"There – it was not your fault at all, Diane"
When Jason relays this information, Dai assures Diane that it was not her fault at all, but she is still in a daze.
"I can't understand how she didn't see the car coming!"
Gwyneth cannot understand how Jaclyn did not see the car coming,
"Shall I get you a hot drink?"
and would like a hot drink with plenty of sugar in it, as she is still in shock.
"Is Jacs going to pull through?"
Brenda is very concerned whether Jaclyn will pull through,
Dylan went in his car
and Cassie reminds her that Dylan was following in his car.

"I'll try to get in touch with Tesni"
Cassie takes Brenda's phone to contact Tesni, and encourages her to drink the brandy.
Kelly does not look very happy
Kelly seems rather remorseful, as she looks around the room;
She picks up Jason's jacket from the chair
she picks up Jason’s jacket, and at that moment her phone rings.
Sara is calling her
It is Sara, and Kelly looks at the phone for a few seconds before answering;  “You’re back then – the photos looked amazing on Facebook –
"You were rocking in that bikini, like!'
“you were rocking in that bikini, like!
"It's Jaclyn?"
“Yes, we heard – I heard the sirens outside – it’s Jaclyn?”
Jaclyn is rushed into the emergency department
They arrive at the hospital, and the ambulance crew describe Jaclyn’s injuries to the A&E staff;  Gerwyn tries to assure Jaclyn that she will be OK, but he is prevented from going any further.
"Why won't they let me go in there?"
“Why won’t they let me go in there?” he demands, but Dylan says that they must have time to do their work.
"There you are, Mam"
Jason takes a cup of strong black coffee to his mother,
Diane takes a sip of the coffee
and, with her hands still shaking, she takes a sip.
"I should have braked sooner"
“I should have braked sooner!” she groans, but Jason stresses that there was no chance of stopping.   Dai blames himself for not coming straight home from the golf club,
"Jaclyn will be fine!"
but is sure that Jaclyn will be fine.
"You don't know that, Dai!"
“You don’t know that,” replies Diane, “Don’t say things you don’t know.”
The rest of the family arrive
Tesni, Guto and Brenda arrive at the hospital, and Guto wails, “She’s going to die!”
Dylan emerges to give them the news that she is stable,
"We want to see her!"
but Tesni shouts that they want to see her.
"I'll go now, Brenda"
Cassie, who appears exceedingly upset by the whole thing, will leave them now, and is thanked by Brenda.
Gerwyn stares through the glass . . .
The rest of the family join Gerwyn, who is still staring through the glass;
. . . then hugs the children

he hugs the twins and then
They watch, helplessly . . .
they all look at Jaclyn,
. . . as the emergency crew work
still being treated by the staff.
"You asked the same question two minutes ago, Diane"
In the Deri, as fireworks can be heard outside, Diane asks if there is any news about Jaclyn;  Dai says that she asked the same question two minutes ago.
"I'm going home – everyone's looking at me!"
She gets up, determined that she is going home, convinced that everyone is staring at her,
"You have to stay until the police have spoken to you"
but both Dai and Jason remind her that the police still want to take her statement.
Dani has a phone call from Cassie
Dani receives a phone call from Cassie,
"We're ready to take your statement now"
and the police officer comes in as they are now ready to take Diane’s statement.
"Thank you, Dani!"
As they are going out of the door, Dani informs Dai that Jaclyn is stable, and this comes as a great relief to them all, including Gwyneth.
By now the family are allowed to sit by Jaclyn’s bedside,
"Mam, this is Tesni and Guto"
and they all try to say a few encouraging words to her, but there is no reaction.
"We're all with you, Jacs"
Gerwyn  assures her that they are all with her, and Brenda says that she will be home before long;
"I need help with the ironing!"
“Because I need help with the ironing!”
The very sound of Dylan's voice . . .
Then she turns to Dylan, who appears to be reluctant to say anything;  he is persuaded to say, “I need you to be OK, Jacs.”
. . . is enough to trigger an adverse reaction . . .
Immediately the monitor sounds an alarm, as Jaclyn’s blood pressure suddenly increases,
. . . and the family are ordered outside
and the emergency staff swing into action, sending the family out of the room.
The accident has affected Cassie
In the Deri, Dani gives Gwyneth another glass of mulled wine, and Cassie comes back, looking haggard.   “Let’s go and sit over there – I’m shattered,
"My feet are killing me!"
“and my feet are killing me!” says Dani.
Doubtless we shall discover why there is this reaction
Cassie looks as if this accident has stirred painful memories.
"Mam didn't have a chance"
When he returns to the café flat, Jason reports that his mother is in shock, and Jaclyn in hospital;  “Jaclyn walked out into the middle of the road without looking – Mam didn’t have a chance.   It’s lucky that Gwyneth saw what happened, or . . . Mam has been breathalysed, but had not been drinking.   I just hope Jaclyn’s all right.”
"Sara rang"
Kelly informs him that Sara rang,
She hands Jason his jacket
then hands him his jacket, as New Year’s fireworks can again be heard exploding.
"This isn't right, is it?"
“This isn’t right, is it?” Jason remarks, and Kelly sadly shakes her head.
"We have to forget about it"  – easier said than done!
“It should never have happened,” she whispers, “So we have to forget about it,” and he agrees.   He must go now, to be with his mother, and he leaves Kelly alone again.
A text from Sara arrives
She hears a text alert;  it is from Sara, and it says, “I’ve missed you loads.   You and me on holiday next – OK?”   Kelly turns and heads to her bedroom.
Gerwyn is told that Jaclyn has a ruptured spleen
At the hospital, Gerwyn has been given the news that Jaclyn has a ruptured spleen, and has to go down to theatre for an operation.
"I've heard about that on the telly!"
Guto sobs, “I’ve heard about that on the telly – there’s internal bleeding and stuff!” but his grandmother emphasises that Jaclyn is strong, and everything will be all right.
"You have to get through this – do you hear me?"
As they wheel her towards the operating theatre, Gerwyn tells her, “Jacs, you’re the most important person in our lives, OK?   So you have to get through this operation, do you hear me?”
"You've got to be string, Gerwyn!"
His mother stresses to him that he has to be strong.
The burden of guilt weighs heavily upon Dylan
Dylan looks extremely worried.
"What a strange night!"
The last of the Deri’s customers leave and Dani locks up;  “What a strange night!” she says, and Gwyneth feels sorry for Diane, who was in shock.
"She was in here just before it happened"
“She was in here just before it happened,” says Dani, “Trying to get Dai home for dinner – if he’d just left when he said he would!”
"Jaclyn wasn't looking where she was going!"
Gwyneth emphasises, “From what I saw, Diane didn’t have a chance – honestly, Jaclyn just wasn’t looking where she was going!”   They hope that she will be OK.
“Just think about the children, too, “Dani goes on, “It’s terrible at any time – but on New Years’s Eve!”   Gwyneth insists that they have to be positive, but
Cassie does not say a word
Cassie has made no comment at all,
"I might as well do the clearing up"
but then decides that she will help with the clearing up, and will not be deterred by Dani.  Gwyneth has to go, remarking, “It was supposed to be a quiet night with a takeaway!”
"I'm just tired – and thinking about that family"
Dani can see that Cassie is not all right, but she gives the excuse that she is just tired – and is thinking of that family.
"They've taken Jaclyn for an emergency operation"
Then she receives a text message from Brenda;  “They’ve taken Jaclyn for an emergency operation.”
"It makes you appreciate what you have, doesn't it?"
“It makes you appreciate what you have, doesn’t it?” muses Dani, and Cassie makes a start on the tables.
Dai helps Diane off with her coat
At Bryntirion, Diane is helped off with her coat, and told to sit down.
"Do you want the telly on?"
“Do you want the telly on?   I can get Noson Llawen on catch-up if you like;  Diane does not reply.
"No more news, Mam"
Then Jason arrives home, and Diane immediately asks if he has heard anything about Jaclyn, but he says he has not.
"It's only from Sara"
Jason’s phone sounds, and he looks at it;  he lies that it is just Sara, wishing him a happy new year,
"You should lie down, Mam"
and thinks that his mother should go and lie down.
“Dai will bring a hot drink up for you – what do you want?” he asks, “Hot chocolate, Ovaltine?   I’ll put the kettle on.”
Diane looks as if she is going upstairs
Dai slowly escorts Diane to the bottom of the stairs, and says he will be up in a minute.
"Jaclyn's in theatre, having an emergency op"
Then Jason reveals to Dai what the message, from Cassie, really said;  “Jaclyn’s in theatre, having an emergency op.”
Little do they realise they are overheard
However, Diane has not gone upstairs, but is listening to them,
"Not a word to your mother, mind!"
as Dai insists, “Not a word to your mother!   Let’s just pray that Jaclyn gets through it.”
"No point in getting ahead of ourselves"
Jason agrees that there is no point in getting ahead of themselves.
Then they are aware of Diane
Then they become aware of Diane’s presence;
"She's going to die, isn't she?   I've killed her!"
“She’s going to die, isn’t she?   I’ve killed her!” says Diane.
