Eileen is on watch again

Eileen is, as usual, studying the laptop;  Sioned reminds her, “You were supposed to take these boxes first thing.   You’re not looking at that CCTV again?

"You're obsessed, Mam!"

“You’re obsessed!”

Something was recorded at 2:00am

Eileen tells her to look at what is on the screen;  “Something went past Mot’s hut at 2:00am this morning – I think the thieves are back – and I heard a car in the yard.”   Sioned did not hear anything, and is told, “You were drinking wine.

"That shadow could be anything"

“I only had two glasses – anyway, that shadow could be anything – an owl, a fox,” Sioned points out, and Mot would have barked if it was a fox – and at a thief as well!”

"Not after Jaclyn stuffed him with sausages!"

“Not after Jaclyn stuffed him with sausages!” her mother snarls, “He wouldn’t be frightened of strangers.”   Sioned urges her to stop being paranoid and take the boxes down to the village, or there will be riots.   When Eileen tells her to take them, she is reminded that Sioned has to go to Llandewi to see a new customer, and she would like to be wished good luck.   However, Eileen remains glued to the laptop screen.

Mark displays a flag of truce

Mark is on his round once again and when he reaches the garage he waves a white flag of truce;  “Have you calmed down now, or what?” he asks,

"I've got a little job for you to do"

and Garry replies that he has a little job for Mark to do, in order to get back in his good books.

“Can you watch this place?   I have to pop out, and the bloke who wants to buy the bike is coming now.”

"I'm working, Gar"

Mark explains that he is working, but Garry does not want the person arriving there to find the place closed.   “I’ve been waiting for him for an hour and he hasn’t turned up –

"I'll only be ten minutes"

“I’ll only be ten minutes – fifteen tops!”

Mark agrees, as he needs a break,

Garry leaves his phone with Mark

and is given Garry’s phone, in case the buyer gets in touch.   He notices that Garry has forgotten his crutch;  “I wont need that where I’m going,” he replies,

Mark takes advantage of the biscuits

and Mark helps himself to a biscuit.

"You've been brilliant"

At Bryntirion, Kelly has just been given some information on the phone;  “I really appreciate it – you’ve been brilliant,” she says, just as Jason comes in through the front door.   She immediately orders him to go into the shower, and Anita has detected the smell from the kitchen.

"That's the smell of a problem with a drain"

Jason explains that it is the smell of a problem with a drain;  “I have to be in Llanarthur in less than an hour, so . . .”   Anita has been thinking about the company’s business plan, and has come to the conclusion that they ought to expand.

"Not now, Anita"

Jason does not want to discuss the matter now,

She wants to revive the laundry service

but of course is overruled by Anita, who goes on, “You know, your mother offered a service cleaning clothes and ironing, didn’t she?   We should revive it!”

"I have enough on my plate as it is"

Jason’s answer is that he has enough on his plate as it is.

“Yes, I understand that, I’m sure you’re worried about Kelly, too – but there’s no need to,

"She feels better now, don't you, Kelly?"

“because she feels better now – don’t you?”

Kelly is not very convincing

Kelly replies that she does, however without much conviction,

"We need to move on with our lives now"

and Anita ploughs on, “You see, we just need to move on with our lives now – why won’t you even consider it?”

"Which part of 'no' don't you understand, Anita?"

as Jason disappears upstairs, wondering which part of ‘no’ she does not understand.

There is a call from Mickey . . .

“He’s as stubborn as a mule,” she moans as Kelly receives a phone call from Mickey;

. . . and Kelly goes outside to speak

she goes outside to take the call.

Garry arrives at the Deri flat

Up in the Deri flat, Dani is preparing to go out when Garry comes in;

"What do you want?"

“What do you want?” she demands, and he replies that he has an offer for her – a good offer.

"There's an easy way to sort it"

“You know I’ve got some cash flow issues at the moment – nothing major – it’s obviously only temporary, but there is an easy way to sort it.   If I stopped paying child maintenance – let me finish before you flip, Dan, please!   If I had a small break from the payments for two years . . .”

It does not meet with Dani's approval

Dani is infuriated by this suggestion,

"I'd be in a position to set up a trust fund"

but he manages to continue, “I’d be in a position to set up a trust fund, which would mean they’d be better off in the end.”

"And how am I supposed to pay the bills?"

“And how am I supposed to pay the bills for two years?” she complains.   He points out she has money from the divorce, but she snarls that she is entitled to that.

“It won’t be just a trust fund for Gwern and Seren,” he adds, “It’ll be a trust fund for . . .

"Does he have a name yet?"

“does he have a name yet?”

"Gabriel"

and she advises him that the baby’s name is Gabriel.

“Yeah, I’m willing to include Gabriel as well – it will be a sign of goodwill to . . . the little angel.”   Dani is very suspicious, remarking that it is not like him to be so nice.   He points out that the baby is Gwern’s and Seren’s half brother, and no-one ever differentiated between Brandon, Britt and him.

"The details are all in here"

“The details are all here,” he says, as he puts down an envelope on the table, “Will you at least have a look at it?   When you read it, you’ll see that it’s too good an offer to refuse.”   He limps out of the flat.

Brynmor takes the magazine to Wilko

Brynmor pays a visit to Wilko, thinking that he might like a copy of the magazine;

"There's an article on the Norton Manx"

“There’s a very special article on the Norton Manx in it.”   The DI is very grateful, and Brynmor continues, “I’ve got more magazines, if you’re interested –

"You've got more room than I have"

“and I’d say you’ve got more room to keep them than I have.”

"I don't like clutter"

Wilko says that he does not like clutter, and Brynmor can see that he has not got a lot of furniture;  “I heard that you like taking off and going travelling,” Brynmor continues, and he is invited to take a seat.

"My father was a bank manager"

“I moved around a lot when I was young, because of my fathers job – he was a bank manager.”

"Starting again can be hard"

Wilko appreciates that packing up and starting again can be hard;  “Where did you say you grew up?” Brynmor asks, but Wilko answers that he did not say.

"Can I get you a cup of tea?"

He offers his guest a cup of tea.

Garry returns in an upbeat mood

Garry returns to the garage, where Mark is minding the bike and still eating biscuits;

"Garry Monk smiling – that makes a change!"

“Garry Monk smiling – that makes a change!” says Mark, “We don’t get many of these posh biscuits at home.   The bloke who wants to buy this bike has broken down outside Tumble –

"He will be here as soon as possible"

“he phoned to tell you not to sell it to anyone else, and he will be here as as soon as possible.

Mark resumes his round – with the biscuits

“I’m off – this post won’t deliver itself.”   He takes the remaining biscuits with him.

Jason is now cleaned up

Now smelling rather more acceptable, Jason is about to leave again and is already late;  he can see that Kelly is worried about something and asks what has happened.

"Couple of interesting calls today"

“A couple of interesting phone calls today, that’s all – the Royal Hotel phoned me back.

"Practically confirmed he's a womaniser"

“They practically confirmed that he is a womaniser – I should have believed Mam all along.   And Mickey wants to meet me tomorrow!”

"We don't have to do this now, Kelly"

“Kelly, we don’t have to do this now, do we?” Jason asks, “If the hotel pretty much confirmed what we suspected about Mickey, can’t we just move forward.”

"Perhaps I need 'closure' or whatever"

She is adamant that they have talked about this;  “I need to do this, Jason, OK?   Perhaps I need ‘closure’ or whatever – and by the way, you’re not coming.”

"Yes, I am coming, Kelly!"

He will not accept that, but she continues, “No – I know you want to protect me,

"What if he sees you?"

“but what if he sees you?   I don’t want him to think something’s up.”

Jason assures her that he will be hiding out of the way, but she is afraid that Mickey will see him;

"I don't want you beating him up again!"

“You’ve already given him a hammering – I don’t want you beating him up again.”

"He deserves to be castrated – just like Rhodri!"

As Jason attempts to tidy his unkempt and overlength hair, he insists, “If he’s done what we think he did to Amanda, he deserves to be castrated – just like Rhodri!”

"I don't want you to do the punishing, Jase!"

Kelly points out, “If he has, I want him to be punished, 100%, but I don’t want you to do the punishing, because I need you – I don’t want you to go to jail!”

"That would be ironic – me ending up in jail!"

He thinks that would be ironic – “Me ending up in jail,” and promises that he will not do anything;  “But if there is any nonsense, Mickey will answer to me, OK?”

Kelly is left alone

He leaves for his appointment.

Wilko has to go to work. . .

Brynmor and Wilko come out of the house;  “Thanks for the magazine – sorry I have to go to work,” says the DI.

. . . but encounters Eileen on the way

Eileen happens to be parked outside the Deri, where she is about to deliver a box of vegetables, and asks for the DI’s help, but he says he is on his way to work.

"I'm afraid the dog thieves are back"

“It’s from the CCTV – I’m afraid the dog thieves are back – something went past at 2:00am,” she explains,

"I'm not working on that investigation"

but he says he is not working on that investigation, and that she should contact the team who are working the case.   He regrets that he cannot help her and continues on his way

"It's a disgrace – I could report you!"

Eileen shouts after him, “You can’t just walk away when a member of the public needs your help – it’s a disgrace – I could report you!”

"You don't want the handcuffs coming out, Eileen!"

Eifion happens to be passing, and warns her that she should not insult a copper, in case the handcuffs come out.   “I’m not in the mood for your jokes!” she growls.

"Fflam's not coming back"

“Listen, they’re doing their best, but Fflam’s not coming back,” he tells Eileen, but she wonders why he is so sure of that.   “He’s been missing for over a fortnight and there is no sign of him – do yourself a favour, accept it and move on.”

Eileen suspects he is involved

Eileen does not have any intention of doing that.

Eifion enquires about Gaynor

He goes into the Deri, where Hywel is at the bar, and asks how Gaynor is;  “Oh, she’s all right – you know what grief’s like,” is the reply, “It’s always one step forward and two steps back.”   Eifion still cannot believe that it has happened, and does not know how Gaynor can get up in the morning.

"What did you mean outside?"

Then Eileen follows him in;  “What did you mean outside when you said you knew he wasn’t coming back?   How do you know that?”

"It's common sense, Eileen"

He says that it is common sense – if he had gone wandering or mating, he would have been back by now.   “But you don’t know that – so how can you say it with such conviction?” she demands,

"Unless you had something to do with his disappearance"

“Unless you had something to do with his disappearance.”

"You can't throw accusations like that around"

Hywel interrupts to point out that Eileen cannot throw accusations like that around, so she shrieks, “You’re defending him – are you involved?

"You're cut from the same cloth, you two!"

“You’re cut from the same cloth, you two!”   Hywel replies that he was not even here when the dog disappeared,

"I could sue you for libel"

and Eifion threatens that he could sue her for libel, but is corrected by Hywel that it is slander.

"What's going on?"

DJ walks in and wonders what all the fuss is about.   He advises Eileen that it is not wise to make such accusations;  “I’m not siding with anyone –

"I'm trying to stop you making a fool of yourself"

“I’m just trying to stop you making a fool of yourself.”   Hywel remarks that it is rather late for that, and when she storms out of the pub,

"Has she been on the whisky or something?"

he wonders if she has been on the whisky.

"Eileen, what's the matter?"

DJ also leaves, and shouts to her as she is about to get into the 4x4;

"Go back in there with your cronies!"

“Go back in there with your cronies!” she snarls, “I gave you a second chance, and this is how you repay me, by ganging up on me with those two!”

He protests that she is not making sense, and she continues, “Sioned said you can’t be trusted –

"You don't work at Penrhewl any more!"

“I don’t want you in Penrhewl – you don’t work there any more!”

"I think I've just been sacked!"

Garry is hobbling towards the Deri, and DJ tells him, “I think I’ve just been sacked!   Eileen just flipped in there with Eifion and Hywel then took it out on me.   She’s obsessed – and her moods are up and down.”

"You'd better keep an eye on her"

Garry advises him, “You’d better keep an eye on her – Britt was acting – how can I say it? – odd,

"Before the breakdown"

“before the breakdown, so . . .”

this makes DJ think

and he goes into the Deri.

"Well, thank you very much"

Round the back of APD, Anita is on the phone;  “Well, thank you very much – goodbye.”

"You look in a good mood, Anita"

Jason thinks that she is in a good mood and she reports, “I’ve just talked to a woman in Swansea –

"She'll sell us her washing and drying machines"

“she’s willing to sell us her washing and drying machines, dirt cheap!”

"Do you remember what I said?"

Jason is outraged;  “You’ve talked to someone – after what we discussed?   Do you remember what I said?”   Anita takes no notice and continues that her laundrette has gone bust,

"We have to move fast if we want the machines!"

and they will have to move fast if they want the machines.

"But we don't want them, Anita!"

“But we don’t want them!” stresses Jason.

“You wouldn’t have to lift a finger on the washing and ironing side,” she goes on, regardless, “Just leave it to me.”

He reminds her that she is only there temporarily – to do the accounts;

"I don't want to get lumbered with dirty clothes!"

“I don’t want to get lumbered with other people’s dirty clothes – I’m a builder!” he exclaims, and she wonders if it would be a problem if she stayed on.   “Ah, I see what you’re doing now – you’re trying to land yourself a full-time job!”

"She's got a point, you know, Jason"

Tyler, who is half-heartedly sweeping the yard nearby, maintains that she has a point;  “Do you know how much Dani paid the other day to wash and dry three double duvets and pillows?

"Money doesn't grow on trees, does it?"

£60!   And money doesn’t grow on trees, does it?”   Anita thinks that Tyler has eloquently made her point for her,

"Thank you very much, Tyler!"

and Jason sarcastically thanks him for his input.

Sioned wants to know what is wrong

Eileen is in tears when she returns to the farm and Sioned wonders what is wrong;  Eileen answers that she is fine, but Sioned demands what has happened.

"I've just had enough!"

“I’ve just had enough!” she groans, and her daughter knows that she has not slept properly since the theft.

"Lie down for five minutes"

Eileen is told to sit down on the sofa;  “I want you to lie down for five minutes to recharge the batteries and I’ll make you a cup of tea.

"I bet other hotels would be interested"

“If the Glyndwr is on board, I bet other hotels would be interested,” says Tyler, “Imagine what their weekly laundry bill must be.”

"The Glyndwr must have 25 rooms"

Anita estimates that the Glyndwr has 25 rooms, and Tyler tells Jason, “Imagine the profit – just from one hotel.

They leave Jason to mull over the matter

“Right, I think Jason needs some time to think.”

Anita warns him not to take take too long, as it is too good an opportunity to miss.

"Lunch at the Deri, Jase"

Then Kelly appears and reminds him that it is time for lunch at the Deri;  he informs Anita that he will be leaving early tomorrow as well, maintaining that they are going shopping in Carmarthen.

"I'd love a couple of hours in Carmarthen"

When Anita volunteers to accompany them,

"I think we'll manage by ourselves, Anita"

he thinks that they will manage by themselves, but thanks her for the offer

"It's a good offer, Garry . . ."

Dani goes to number 7 and admits that it is a good offer;

". . . but I'm not accepting it!"

“But I’m not accepting it!”

"The children would be six times better off"

Garry demands whether she realises the children would be about six times better off in the end,

"It all depends on you sorting yourself out"

but she points out, “It all depends on you sorting yourself out – what if you don’t?   There’s no guarantee.”

"I've just sold a bike for £600!"

He emphasises that it is just a short-term cash flow problem;  “Listen, I’ve just sold a bike for £600!”

"And look how excited you are about it!"

The fact that he is so excited about it is what worries Dani;  “In the past, that would have meant nothing to you – if things don’t go back to the way they were, the children will lose out, so I’d rather have maintenance every month, as agreed.”

"It will only take a few months, Dan"

He promises that he will have turned everything round in a few months, so she queries why he is asking for two years, in that case.

"You can't guarantee anything, Gar"

“Because you can’t guarantee anything, Gar.”   He wants her to show some faith in him, but she laughs, “Look where having faith in you has left me in the past!   I’m sorry, but I can’t accept this – so I’ll expect maintenance at the end of the month as usual – you can put that £600 towards it.”

Eileen catches up on some of that lost sleep

Eileen is asleep on the sofa when DJ comes in, and Sioned tells him to be quiet.

"She flipped in the Deri earlier"

He is worried about Eileen;  “She sacked me earlier – she flipped in the Deri.   She accused Hywel and Eifion of stealing Fflam – I told her she couldn’t say things like that – and then she sacked me!”

"She sacked Jaclyn last week"

Sioned recalls that she also sacked Jaclyn last week;  “Listen, I’m giving you your job back, all right?   We can’t operate without staff.   She hasn’t slept since the theft – she just watches the blinkin’ CCTV, 24/7.”

"Are you sure it's just tiredness?"

DJ fear is that it may be more than just tiredness;  “It’s just something Garry said, that’s all – I don’t want to upset you or anything,

"Britt was acting a bit odd before . . ."

“but he said Britt was acting a bit odd just before . . .”

"You don't think Mam's having a breakdown?"

“You don’t think Mam’s having a breakdown?” Sioned demands; she simply puts it down to paranoia and nothing more.

"No – I'm sure she'll be all right"

DJ is sure that her mother will be all right,

Sioned is now harbouring doubts . . .

but the seeds of doubt have been planted in Sioned’s mind.

. . . and Eileen sleeps on, oblivious

Meanwhile Eileen is sleeping peacefully.
