23 February 2023

The wild swimming continues

We are back at the river again – and Iolo must have had next-day delivery on his wetsuit, because this time he is frolicking in the water with Britt.

"Don't tell Colin I haven't been wearing a wetsuit"

As they emerge and wrap themselves up, she warns him, “Don’t tell Colin I haven’t been wearing a wetsuit.”

The air bed is deflated again

At Bryntirion, Kelly and Jason are packing up the air bed

"I do like these pinks myself"

as Anita informs Diane, “Well, there we are – I do like those pinks myself, but it says in the books that greys and even ‘metallics’ are ‘on trend’.

Diane prefers the blue, although Anita considers that to be a bit dark.

"Keep it down – Dai's still asleep"

Jason is very pleased that the coffee is now ready, but is reprimanded by Diane;  “Keep it down – Dai’s still sleeping.”

"Lucky him!"

Kelly regards him as very lucky, and is told there are a couple of colour swatches for her to look at, so she can think about what colour scheme she would like.

"You're going to be busy, Kelly"

It is obvious that Kelly is not particularly interested, and Jason sarcastically suggests that she is going to be very busy, so he will go to work.

Now they are planning a suit for Ifan

Now Anita’s attention turns to a suit for Ifan;  “That would look wonderful, don’t you think?”

Kelly decides to go with Jason

This is the last straw for Kelly, who will go with Jason, despite his insistence that she has swatches to sort out.   She is of the opinion that colour schemes can wait,

"Oh – she's gone!"

and Anita is disappointed to find that she has gone.

"We have to be careful, Iolo"

“It’s a shame that we weren’t in for more than five minutes,” Iolo complains, but Britt stresses that they have to be careful, and reminds him that she said he would enjoy it.

Now it is time for breakfast

She opens a tin containing their breakfast – some cakes, and explains that they are supposed to have something sweet after getting out.

"I feel all healthy now"

He says that he will have to come here more often, as he feels all healthy now.

"It helps with everything"

“They say this swimming is supposed to help with everything, physically and mentally,” she tells him, and wonders if there is anything wrong,

Iolo seems reluctant to speak

but Iolo seems reluctant to speak.   “You know I’m always here for you, Iol, if you want to talk.”

DJ looks at a website

At Deri Fawr, DJ is looking on the laptop at the website of ‘The O’Connor Shore’ restaurant and is talking to Uncle Dic.

"No, we've changed our minds . . ."

“I’m looking at the photos now – it looks incredible – but no, we have changed our minds –

". . . Sioned and me"

“Sioned and me.   Thanks for going over there, anyway.”

"Thanks for not saying it was my fault"

Sioned has been listening to this and thanks him for not saying that it was her fault;  “It’s not anyone’s fault,” he insists,

"If this is where you want to be . . ."

“If this is where you want to be, this is where we’ll stay.   He sent me photos of the restaurant,” so she wants to have a look.

"And they want you to be the chef there?"

“And they wanted you to be the chef there?” she says incredulously.

"They were only interested in talking"

He points out that they were interested in talking to him, that is all,

"I'm so sorry, DJ"

and she is so sorry, but he makes it very clear that they make decisions like this together.

"I can feed you now instead"

In any case, he can feed her now instead, and it is time for breakfast.   Sioned is feeling guilty.

They are ready to leave

As Britt and Iolo are about to take the path back up to the car, alongside a substantial bridge,

"Tyler deserved everything he got"

Britt says that Tyler deserved everything he got after Christmas.

"It was his love for Greta"

Iolo seems dubious about this;  “Did he?   His love for Greta pushed him to do what he did.”   She is sceptical whether it was his love for Greta that made him push Eifion like that.   Whatever his reasons were, he should have stopped once he realised he was hurting Iolo and Greta.

"I feel guilty when I stop him seeing her"

“He misses seeing Greta, and I feel guilty when I stop him seeing her,” he emphasises, but Britt reminds him that he is not the one stopping Tyler from seeing Greta, but he is doing that himself.

“Do you think I should talk to him – try and get him to change?”

"He has to realise for himself"

but Britt is adamant that he has to realise for himself that he needs to change.

“It’s not going to help Greta if you drive yourself mad trying to sort Tyler’s problems out,” she insists, but is told that it is complicated.   Tyler is always going to be part of Iolo’s life because of Greta.   “But that doesn’t mean he has to control your life,” Britt instructs him,

"Come on, Iolo"

“Come on.”

Kelly arrives back

Kelly comes in through the back door of Bryntirion, hoping for some peace, but Anita demands where she has been,

"We're going to be late"

as they are going to be late.

"Late for what?"

“Late for what?” asks Kelly, and is told they are going out for lunch as a little treat to congratulate her on the engagement.

"Is Jason coming?"

“Is Jason coming?” she wants to know.

Diane points out that it is a ladies’ lunch, but they will not reveal where they are going, which rather irritates Kelly;

"Smart casual"

she is simply told to dress ‘smart casual’.

"A bit of notice would have been handy, like!"

“Do you know what?   A bit of notice would have been handy, like!”   Diane predicts that she will love it.

Ffion is ready for her journey northwards

Ffion is packing the car for her journey to North Wales with Arwen;  Cai suspects that Eileen was not very happy about this.  “No, but with you agreeing to step up, she had no choice, did she?” Ffion replies.

"Do you have time for a coffee?"

Cai enquires if she has time for a coffee,

"Val's waiting at the hospital"

but Val is waiting for her at the hospital.

"I miss you, Ffion"

“It would be nice if we could talk – sort things out before you go,” he says, “You and me – I miss you, Ffion,” but she urges him to stop and at that moment Jinx is walking towards them.

"What am I going to do without you, Ffion?"

“Hey – what am I going to do without you, Ffion?” he shouts,

"We're in the middle of something"

but Cai points out that they are in the middle of something.

"Are we?"

“Are we?” demands Ffion,

"I want to say goodbye"

and he says he wants to say goodbye;  “Yes, and you’ve said it now,” she reminds him,

"Good luck with the school"

“Good luck with the school – if you need anything, just phone me, OK?”

Cai walks away

Cai looks disparagingly at Jinx and then walks away in disgust.

"Arwen has not done any packing at all"

Apparently Arwen has gone to say goodbye to Gwern and has not done any packing at all, so her mother has had to do it;  “I haven’t phoned her, because I didn’t want to lose my temper with her, now she has agreed to come.”

"You don't want to argue before a long journey"

Jinx can understand;  “You don’t want to argue before a long journey up north.”

"We'll go and look for her"

She will just put the remaining items in the boot and then they can go and look for her.

“Jinx, are you going to be all right here without us?” she asks,

"I promise I won't burn the flat down"

and he promises he will not burn the flat down or have any wild parties.   He will be fine and is confident that she will be, too,

"What – with Val?"

although she is not so sure about that, as she will be with Val.

They arrive at the rather posh venue . . .

Kelly and her wedding arrangers arrive at the venue, which Kelly considers is rather fancy for lunch.   “It’s not a normal lunch,” explains Diane,

. . . where Kelly's mother is waiting

and they have a little surprise for her, in the form of her mother, Amanda.   Anita announces that after all she is the mother of the bride.

“It’s lucky you phoned, because my own daughter didn’t,” she moans

"What am I letting myself in for?"

and  Kelly is already regretting that she came.

"It's to arrange the food for the wedding"

Then there is another surprise as Diane reveals that this is a taster menu, so they can arrange the food for the wedding;

"You what?"

after a stunned silence, Kelly demands, “You what?”

"Wait till you've tasted the food"

Anita tells her to wait until she has tasted the food,

"I'm not making any decisions without Jason!"

but Kelly’s mind is made up, “I’m not making any decisions without Jason!”

Diane still maintains it is worth having a few ideas early on;

"Getting things in order for the big day"

“Yes, getting things in order for the big day,” continues Anita.

"Do Jason and I get any say in this?"

“Do Jason and I get any say in this?” Kelly demands, and she is urged not to be like that, as a lot of time has gone into arranging today and it is her special day.

"We can have a posh lunch for free, Kel"

Amanda is rather more down to earth;  “Come on Kel, sit down – we can have a posh lunch for free, and then discuss what you really want over wine.   Please, Kel, I’ve come all the way from Merthyr.”

Kelly sits down

Kelly finally gives up and sits down;  she reluctantly pours out champagne.

Eileen is looking for a farmhand

Eileen is on the phone;  “Are you sure you don’t have anyone?   Even for a couple of days?   We’re so busy with the planting and lambing.   Well, let me know if there is anyone.”

"Is Huwi free tonight?"

Sioned has just walked in and has come to see if Huwi is free tonight.

“I just wanted to take him out for a while,” she says and her mother wants to know where.   “I was going to let him decide,” Sioned continues

"Swimming lesson tonight"

and Eileen replies that he is busy tonight with a swimming lesson.

"Swimming is Monday nights"

Sioned knows very well that swimming is on Monday night

"What's going on, Mam?"

and demands what is going on.

"In case people encourage him"

“I’m just being careful about where Huwi goes these days – in case people encourage him.”

"In case he wants to enjoy himself"

Sioned knows exactly what she means – in case he wants to enjoy himself.

"You're putting these silly ideas into his head"

“That’s why I don’t want him spending time with you,” her mother stresses, “You’re putting these silly ideas into his head.”

Sioned accuses her of being totally ridiculous,

"If you had your own child . . ."

and Eileen snarls, “If you had your own child, you would understand!”

Sioned is shocked . . .

then realises what she said, but by then it is too late

. . . and walks out of the farm

and Sioned is storming out of the house and will not listen to any apologies.

Diane suggest that the scallops deserved 10 out of 10, and Anita agrees with this, but Kelly’s reaction is different;

"I hate scallops!"

“I hate scallops – they’re minging!”

"They show you have a bit of class"

Anita maintains that they show you have a bit of class, and that people will be thrilled because it is an important day.

"An important day – for Jason and me"

“Exactly, yes,” Kelly agrees, “For Jason and me!”   She is informed that is why they have to prepare,

"Perhaps we want . . . a chippy supper!"

but suggests, “Perhaps we want – I don’t know – a chippy supper!”

Anita is very shocked

Anita is outraged by this.

"All right – enough is enough!"

Kelly gets up;  “All right – OK – enough’s enough!”   She is told to sit down as people are looking, but she will not be silenced;  “No – cos you know what?   You’re not interested in what I want – you just want your wedding!   So no!”

Anita wants to know where she is going and she replies, “Anywhere but here!” as she walks out,

"They're trying to take over my wedding!"

with her mother running after her.   “They’re trying to take over my wedding,” Kelly moans, but Amanda insists that does not have to mean she leaves.

"I can't stick it any longer!"

“No, I can’t stick it any longer – I shall be fine – nice to see you.”

"Cai – how many times?"

Iolo comes downstairs at Y Felin and shouts, “Cai, how many times do I have to tell you to clear up?”

He smiles as he looks at the wetsuit

Then he notices his wetsuit hanging up to dry and thinks better of it.

"You did what, Mam?"

At Bryntirion, Jason is informing his mother on the phone that he has not seen Kelly and she has not called;  “You did what?” he exclaims.

Kelly walks in

At that moment Kelly returns to the house, as Diane explains what has happened.

"She's standing in front of me"

“Well, she’s just walked in and is standing in front of me, so I’ll ask her.”

"Don't even think of taking her side!"

Kelly warns him not to even think of taking Diane’s side, and he assures her that he was not going to, but reminds her that they are excited.

"Jason, it's just too much, OK?"

“Jason, it’s just too much – too much, OK?   And Mam was there!”

"Let them have their moment, Kelly"

He is very sorry to hear that, but recommends that she lets them have their moment now, and then, once they have decided where and when they want to get married, they can channel all that energy Anita and Diane have into that.

“We’re lucky – they only want what’s best for us,” he goes on;

"It's the same place you married Sara"

Kelly has been thinking that he does not want to marry her in the same place he married Sara, and he realises that this does complicate matters.

"I hadn't considered that"

He has not considered that;  “You’re not the only one,” she groans, and he maintains that it does not matter.

"I'd marry you in the shed, wearing wellies"

“I’d marry you in the shed out the back, wearing wellies, if I had to, as long as we get married –

That amuses Kelly

“that’s all that’s important to me.”

"Yes, I've seen the photos"

When Sioned comes back into Deri Fawr she is on the phone;  “Yes, I’ve seen the photos – they’re lovely.   I’ll talk to you later.”

"Has Dic phoned you?"

DJ assumes that Dic had phoned her, but she replies, “I phoned him –

"I wanted to tell him you're interested in that job"

“I wanted to tell him that you’re interested in this chef job.”   He reminds her of what she said earlier, and she continues, “It struck me today how much effort Dic is willing to go to for us – and I want to stay here because of Mam –

"She doesn't trust me in the same room as Huwi!"

“the woman who doesn’t even trust me in the same room as Huwi!”

"Fallen out again, have you?"

DJ realises that they have fallen out again;

"Because I'm not a mother"

“She said I didn’t understand anything about children because I’m not a mother.”

"I want is to have a fresh start"

She snuggles up to DJ and wants them to have a fresh start, far away from Cwmderi.

"Let's sleep on it tonight"

DJ tell her they do not have to make any rash decisions, but should sleep on it tonight.   “OK,” she answers,

"I want to move to Ireland"

“But I’m not going to change my mind – I want to move to Ireland.”

Diane and Anita are back

Diane and Anita arrive back at Bryntirion,

"Deep breath, Kelly"

and Jason advises Kelly to take a deep breath before she says anything.

"We went a little bit overboard"

Anita apologises that they went a little bit overboard, and Diane maintains that they were too excited, but wanted to do something nice for her.

"Apology accepted"

“I know your intentions were good – apology accepted,” Kelly graciously tells them;

"There – friends again now?"

Jason now assumes that everyone is getting on, but they are about to announce another surprise.

"What now?"

“What now?” Kelly shouts, and she is asked if she liked the place, which she did, although she acknowledges it was a shock.

However she did not like the food they selected;  “In general, yeah, it was fine,”

"It's a wonderful place for a wedding"

and Diane cannot resist describing it as a wonderful place to celebrate a wedding.   “I suppose,” is Kelly’s less than ringing endorsement, and then they announce that it has been booked.

Again Kelly shrieks, “You what?”

"People wait ages these days"

Anita angrily points out that people wait ages to get married these days, and there is a backlog,”

"Saturday 3 August next year"

but Diane tries to silence her and points out that the place had a date which was available.

“Saturday 3 August – next year.”

"Do you want to marry me that day?"

Kelly initially says nothing, and Jason asks if she wants to marry him on that day;

"If it's all right with you"

she replies that if it is all right with him, she agrees.

"The third of August next year is is, then"

“The third of August next year it is, then,” Kelly says,

Jason is quite pleased about this

and Jason looks jubilant.
