Rhys comes in

Lois is drinking a cup of tea when Rhys comes in;  “Are you still angry with me?” he asks, and she does not say anything.

"Don't you ever think about our child?"

“Don’t you ever think about our child?,” he goes on, and she reminds him that Gwen is not their child.

"She's 12 years old now!"

Lois exclaims, “Good grief, Rhys – she’s 12 years old – she’s got new parents, a sister, a full life!   You weren’t serious?   You don’t want to try and get her back?”

"I'm never going to have a family of my own!"

Rhys is afraid that he is never going to have a family of his own,

Gaynor is lurking just over there

and once again Gaynor is listening from the other room, while ostensibly polishing the piano.

"With the right person at the right time!"

“Of course you will – with the right person at the right time!” Lois snarls,

"But not with you"

and he gets the impression that it will not be with her.

"We've slept together a couple of times"

“Rhys, we’ve slept together a couple of times – that doesn’t mean . . . what’s the rush?”

He insists that there is no rush, but something always goes wrong and he is afraid it will never happen for him;

"I don't  deserve to have kids"

“I’m worried that after what happened with Gwen, I don’t deserve to have kids!”   She tells him that is the guilt talking, and that they were only children when they had Gwen – they were not even in a relationship.

“Do you regret giving her up?” he demands,

"I'm going to work"

and Lois decides that she is going to work;

Gaynor has heard all this

Gaynor has of course been listening to every word.

Wilko arrives once more at the Deri flat,

Dani worries about the shop stock

where Dani is complaining, “Some people just send me rubbish – there was a dirty nappy in one of the bags!   But some send me nice stuff – I just don’t think I’ve got enough good stuff to sell all year.”

"Are you regretting the idea?"

He enquires, hopefully, if she is beginning to regret the idea, but her answer is that she intends to sell new things as well;  “There are small companies out there who want their stuff in a shop.   Anyway, do you want a cup of tea?”

"How well do you know Kelly?"

He asks, “How well do you know Kelly?   This might be an odd question, but is she ill or something?   She called at the house earlier and she was asking about surveillance cameras.

"She was asking really odd questions"

“She said that her friend had a problem with a boyfriend – it was obvious that she was lying – and then she started asking some really odd questions.

"If I'd set up cameras in someone's house"

“Asking if I’d set up cameras in someone’s house before – then she tried to get into the house.   I managed to stop her, but . . .”

"She said you'd put hidden cameras here"

Dani interrupts there, “I wasn’t going to say anything because it’s bizarre, but she said you’d put hidden cameras here – and then she started looking for them.   It was really embarrassing – it has probably come from Tyler.

Wilko asks why she did not say anything,

"I didn't want to encourage it"

and she snorts, “Because it’s ridiculous – I didn’t want to encourage it!   Tyler’s embarrassing enough – and then Kelly does that.”

"People get paranoid and uncertain"

He reminds her that they both have been victims of violence, and he has seen it before;  “People get paranoid and uncertain – they start to doubt other people – as long as you don’t start to doubt me.”

"I've never been so certain of anyone"

She replies that of course she does not, in fact she has never been so certain of anyone, which he finds reassuring.

"Why aren't you answering my calls?"

Anita opens the door of Bryntirion to find Griffiths outside;  he demands, “Why aren’t you answering my calls?”

Anita refers him to the Western Post article

She shows him the article in the Western Post, and assumes that is why he has been going out with her.

“So you could give APD a contract to get your own back at them!” she growls.

"It does't matter who I was seeing"

He points out that he could have awarded the contract to APD, no matter who he was seeing, but she is quite certain, “You wouldn’t give a company a big contract without knowing all about them –

"You got all APD's ins and outs through me!"

“you got APD’s ins and outs through me!”

"You were going out with me to get the contract"

He argues that on the contrary, he could say she was going out with him in order to get the contract.   “So are you saying it’s true?” she demands, “You’re not denying it!

"Well, perhaps at the start"

He confesses that perhaps at the start he wanted to know more about APD, but that has now all changed.   Anita concludes that he has been using her, but he insists that he is not any more.   “I think you had better go!” she instructs him,

"But I've booked a table with a sea view!"

but he protests that he has booked a table with a sea view.

"Well, enjoy the view on your own!"

“Well, you’ll have to enjoy the view on your own!” she rages.

"It doesn't mean there aren't hidden cameras"

As Kelly comes out of the shop she is on the phone to Mark;  “Yes, I know, but because it’s a doggie cam doesn’t mean there aren’t any hidden cameras elsewhere.”

"Oh – talk of the devil!"

Then she notices the DI approaching, so ends the call.

"I want to apologise, Kelly"

He is glad to have bumped into her;  “Look, I want to apologise for my behaviour the other day – I’ve got this case on in work, and it’s terrible – I get distracted – “but I got this for you from someone in work.   Details of cameras and a surveillance company – he says they’re pretty good.”

"She doesn't want it any more"

Kelly replies, “You know what?   She doesn’t want it any more, but ta, all the same.”

"She should call the police"

Wilko advises that if her friend has any problems with that guy, she should call the police – that is what they are there for.

Kelly has a knowing smile

Kelly chuckles and walks away, going straight to APD to tell Jason about it;

"Perhaps he was trying to help, Kelly"

he says, “I don’t know, Kelly – perhaps he was just trying to help.”

`"No, he was putting on an act, like"

She is quite convinced that it was as if he was putting on an act,

"Keep away from him if he's dodgy"

and he hopes that she will keep away from him if he is dodgy.   He advises that she should forget about it now, as Dani can look after herself,

"You've done all you can, Kelly"

and Kelly has done all that she can to help.

Then a member of staff walks out

As Kelly walks away, Lois follows her out of the door, much to Jason’s consternation;

"Are you free for a chat?"

“Kelly, are you free for a chat?   I saw that if you had written an article about giving your baby away – I really need to talk to someone who understands.”

Memories come flooding back

Seeing the look on Kelly’s face,

"Sorry for asking"

she apologises for asking,

"Deri, in ten minutes?"

but is told, “It’s all right – Deri, in ten minutes?” which is appreciated by Lois.

"Things are pretty serious between you, then?"

In the Deri, Brynmor is talking with Griffiths;  “So things are pretty serious between you and Anita, then?”

"That's what I thought until today"

That is the impression that Ieuan had until this business came up;  he accuses her of overreacting.

“You weren’t using her then?” Brynmor asks, but Ieuan does not consider that to be important –

"I just want to know how to get her back"

he only wants to know how to get her back.   It is recommended, “You could start with a special gift,” and Griffiths suggests chocolates.

“No – chocolates are not a special gift –

"Neither are flowers from Eileen's shop"

“neither are flowers from Eileen’s shop, before you say it,” Brynmor stipulates,

"I don't want to spend very much"

and when Griffiths points out that he does not want to spend very much, is told, “Is that the right attitude?   All I’m saying is, if you want to make the right impression, you have to prove that you’ve made an effort.

"Something original"

“Something original – which does not have to mean expensive.”

"Remember when we had the surveillance cameras?"

Ieuan appears to have thought of something, but before he goes, Brynmor asks, “Remember when we had surveillance cameras in the council building – when all that money disappeared?   Did the police have the right to film us without our knowledge?”

He cannot resist boasting about his contacts

“Oh no –the chief inspector said it was quite rare – we’re quite good friends,” replies Griffiths, “Although they believed strongly that it was an inside job, they had to ask a judge for permission to set the cameras up –

"Are you up to something interesting"

“are you up to something interesting?”

Brynmor says that he was just thinking about installing something in the garage and was not sure about the regulations;  he looks concerned.

"I know where she lives and that she has a sister"

Also in the Deri, Lois is telling Kelly that she thought about Gwen, of course, but had learned to live with it;  “But now, thanks to Mam and Rhys, I know where she lives and that she has a sister.

"Rhys has this crazy idea"

“Rhys has this crazy idea that we can be one happy family again.   I was only a child when I gave her up – I know I did the right thing, and I still believe it.”

"Doing the right thing can be heartbreaking"

Kelly knows from experience that doing the right thing can be heartbreaking, but now Lois cannot stop thinking about her,

"I'm scared Gwen will hate me"

and is scared that she will hate her mother for giving her away.

"Have you thought about writing to her?"

Kelly wonders if she has thought about writing to Gwen.

Wilko is working at his house . . .

Wilko is sorting out some official papers

. . . when he hears a knock at the door

when there is a knock at his door,

"It's me, Brynmor!"

and he hears Brynmor’s voice, shouting through the letterbox, but does not answer it.

"Are you mates, then?"

Kelly also arrives outside and asks Brynmor if he and the DI are mates;  it is explained that they just share the same interests.

"Not sure what to make of him"

“I think he’s ‘tricky’ – not sure what to make of him,” she comments,

"Why do you say that, Kelly?"

and this interests Brynmor;  “Well, sometimes he’s pleasant and other times he’s just distant – and weird!” she says.   Brynmor points out that Dani is happy with him,

"I think he's controlling"

and Kelly answers, “She says she is – I think he’s controlling, but she doesn’t see it.   But there we are – knowing Garry and Dylan, perhaps that’s her type.”

Brynmor's suspicions grow

This makes Brynmor even more suspicious.

Wilko has that musical box again . . .

Inside the house, Wilko has a box file, from which he again takes the musical box,

. . . containing two photos . . .

containing photographs of two girls

. . . and a keying with the letter 'E' . . .

and a keyring, with a letter ‘E’,

. . . which must have some special significance

at which he looks intently.

Anita has a present

In Bryntirion, Anita is sitting in front of a box which has been delivered;

"Go on - open it!"

Kelly urges her, “Go on, you’re desperate to, open it!”

An empty box . . .

When she does so, Anita imagines that Griffiths is trying to make a fool of her, as the box is empty, save for a sheet of paper,

. . . except for a note

which bears the words, ‘My Life Without You’.

"His life is empty without you"

Kelly elucidates, “Empty, as in his life is empty without you,”

Anita rather likes that

and this makes Anita smile.   There is a knock at the door,

"Oh – Ieuan!"

which Kelly opens, to find Ieuan with some flowers.

"I couldn't wait to see if you liked it"

“I couldn’t wait to see if you liked the present,” he says,

"Well, it is original"

and Anita agrees that it is original.

"I can always rely on my originality"

“I can always rely on my originality – and a few dance moves when the occasion demands,” he goes on.   Kelly goes upstairs and leaves them to it.

"I mean it, you know!"

“I mean it, you know!” emphasises Ieuan, “My life is much better since we started seeing each other.”

Anita is of like mind

Anita agrees that she feels the same,

"Does that mean you'll come for a meal with me?"

and he tentatively enquires, “Does that mean you’ll come out for a meal with me?”

“If it’s expensive and you’re paying,” she says, and he points out that a table with a sea view does not come cheap.

Lois' bags are packed

Lois has packed her bags,

"Where are you going?"

and Rhys discovers this when he comes in.

"I'm moving in with Dad"

“I’m moving in with Dad,” she tells him, but he protests that she must not do that, as they have something special.

"You don't know me, Rhys"

“You don’t know me – you’ve got this idea in your head of having a family with me because of something that happened years ago,” she emphasises.

"Things have been great this time"

He maintains that it is not just that, and that things have been great between them this time.

"I don't want a family now – perhaps not ever!"

She makes it quite clear, “You don’t want what I want – I don’t want a family now – perhaps not ever!” and he sinks into a chair.

"I've written this to Gwen"

“I’ve written this to Gwen – well, the agency – it explains why I did what I did, how hard it was and that I think about her every day.   There’s a copy for you.   That’s the end of the matter –

"I don't want to talk about Gwen with you ever again"

“I don’t want to talk about Gwen with you ever again.”

Rhys is devastated

She picks up her luggage and leaves the house.

Wilko shuts the door behind him

Dani is tidying up the flat when Wilko comes in, and shuts the door after him;

"Can I ask you something?"

“Can I ask you something?   I wanted it to be a surprise, but it’s not practicable with three kids.”

“So what’s this surprise that’s not going to be a surprise?” Dani wants to know;  he wonders how she would like to spend a night away, just the two of them, and assumes that Jaclyn will babysit.

Dani jumps at the chance

Dani is very quick to agree, and says that tomorrow will suit her;

"Should I wear smart stuff"

she asks whether she should wear smart stuff or what.

"You always look smart, Dani"

He maintains that she always looks smart.

"Never ask a man what I should wear"

“I should know better than to ask a man what I should wear – I shall go and tell the children!” she says, excitedly.

Griffiths ha left his phone behind . . .

A mobile phone is ringing on the table in Bryntirion, where Griffiths has carelessly left it;  Kelly can see that the caller is ‘Eunice’, and, after looking cautiously around,

. . . and Kelly does some investigative journalism

picks up the phone and finds a message

Ieuan is warned not to stay out late

reading, ‘Don’t be late or I’ll lock you out’.

"I got the 'Banquet for Two'"

As she considers the implications of this, Jason arrives home, saying that he did not know what she wanted, so he got the ‘Banquet for Two’;  “And as the house is empty, for a change, red wine.”

"Two text messages from a woman called Eunice"

Kelly announces that Griffiths has forgotten his phone;  “And he’s got 14 missed calls, as well as two text messages from a woman called Eunice.

"Don't be late or I'll lock you out!"

“‘Don’t be late or I’ll lock you out’!”

"Probably his sister – or a friend"

Jason surmises that it may be his sister – or perhaps a friend;

"Who is angry if he gets home late?"

“Who lives with him and is angry if he gets home late – what?” says Kelly, sceptically.

"If he had a wife or partner, everybody would know"

Jason reminds her, “The point is, everyone knows Griffiths – and I’m sure if he had a wife or a partner, someone would have heard.”

"Poor Auntie Neet actually likes him!"

Kelly is concerned that poor Auntie Neet – although it is quite unbelievable – actually likes Griffiths.

"Not a word until you're sure of your facts!"

He warns her to say a word until she is sure of her facts.

Rhys  is depressed again

Rhys is sitting gloomily at the table when Hywel and Gaynor come back to the house;  “I’m just saying that a part-time job would do you good,” Hywel, “It would get you out of the house.”

"Lois has gone to live with Colin"

Rhys informs them, “Lois has gone to live with Colin,” and when Gaynor expresses surprise,

"Why do you think?"

adds, “Why do you think?   If you had kept your nose out of things.”   Gaynor repeats that she was thinking of Gwen,

"You were only thinking of yourself!"

but he shouts, “You were only thinking about yourself!   If you were worried about Gwen, you would have let the authorities know about your health history!   I was happy with Lois until you spoiled things!”

Hywel tries unsuccessfully to calm things

Gaynor does not improve matters when she replies, “If Lois really wanted to be with you, she wouldn’t have let me spoil anything.”

"You can't stand seeing anyone happy!"

“You can’t stand to see anyone happy – you were the same with Izzy!” yells Rhys, and Gaynor shouts at him to stop blaming everyone else.

"All you do is lounge around the place!"

“All you do is lounge around the place, being upset about a girl, or that you don’t get enough ‘likes’ on Instagram!” she roars.

No wonder everyone leaves you!"

Rhys remarks that it is no wonder that everyone leaves her;  “I’m going to stay with Mathew,” he says, as he walks out of the house, “I’ll get my stuff tomorrow.”

"Don't you feel any sympathy at all?"

Hywel demands whether Gaynor feels any sympathy at all, pointing out that Rhys almost committed suicide a year ago.

"I'm fed up with people blaming me for everything!"

“I’ve just lost a daughter, and I’m fed up with people blaming me for everything!” Gaynor rages, “I’m trying to make things right!”

"You've made both Rhys and Lois leave in one day!"

Hywel stresses that her method of making things right has caused both Rhys and Lois to leave on the same day, and that is quite a feat.

"I don't know how much more I can take!"

“And the way I feel now, Gaynor, I don’t know how much more I can take, either!”
