25 November 2021

Eifion is sleeping . . .

Eifion is asleep, fully clothed, on top of his bed and is having a nightmare;

. . . until he suddenly awakens in a panic

he wakes up suddenly in panic and gets out of bed,

He puts on his shoes . . .

putting on his shoes.

. . . and looks very troubled

He looks distraught.

He sees something shocking across the road

When he comes out of the shop door he is surprised by what he sees across the road;  at that moment,

"You're up early, Eifion"

Iolo is emerging from the door of number 7 and remarks that Eifion is up early.

"Have you seen that?"

“Have you seen that?” he is asked, as Eifion points at the house behind him.

"Tyler!"

When Iolo sees the swastika painted across the door, he immediately shouts, “Tyler!”

Tyler is similarly shocked

Tyler comes out and looks in amazement;  he enquires if Eifion saw anyone, but he cannot help.

"This is your fault – the video!"

“This is your fault – that video!” Iolo shouts at Tyler and goes back into the house.

"You don't really think that?"

“Iol, you don’t really think it’s because of the video?” demands Tyler, and Iolo does not imagine that it is Gay Pride.

"Stuff how it would affect me and Greta!"

“You did that video to make yourself feel better – stuff how it would affect me and Greta!

"This is worse than the 'paedo'!"

“Having ‘paedo’ painted on the door was bad enough – but this is worse!” Iolo rages, “These are not just homophobic people, they’re dangerous.”

"Look, I'll take Greta to school"

Tyler tries to calm him by insisting that whoever it is will not do anything while are they are both there.   “Look, Iol, I’ll take Greta to school and we’ll sort this mess out.”

"She's not safe, Ty!"

Iolo is certain that Greta is not safe and refuses to allow her to go to school.

"You're not thinking straight, Iol"

He is told that he is not thinking straight,  and exclaims, “I’m sorry?   It’s completely normal to have a swastika painted on our house, is it?   Greta’s not putting one foot out the door – understand?”

Jinx visits Y Felin"

Jinx visits Y Felin, and Siôn comments that Ffion went to North Wales in rather a rush;  he wonders if there is a problem.

"Her mother's had quite a bad turn"

“Her mother’s had quite a bad turn,” Jinx replies, and Siôn points out that she is lucky to have him around.

"What was that book Arwen wanted"

“What was that book that Arwen wanted?” Siôn asks, and is told that it was the new novel he recommended, which is on the dresser.

"Siôn, I wanted to ask you . . ."

As Jinx picks it up, he is about to ask Siôn something

"Siôn, come on – now!"

when Tesni’s voice can be heard, “Siôn, come on!”

"Sorry, Jinx"

and he apologises to Jinx.

"It's a pity there's no CCTV"

Outside number 7, several of the villagers have gathered;  Anita maintains, “It’s pity there’s no CCTV round here so we can catch them.”   Hywel emphasises that there is no place for those people in this community

"We'll get rid of that, Tyler"

and promises Tyler that they will get rid of the graffiti for him.   A lot of people have said that they are coming over to show their support.

"We've got some stuff in APD"

Anita admires the fact that he is organising it, and suggests that they have got stuff in APD to get rid of paint – she will go and fetch it now.

"Scumbags!"

On the way she meets Kelly, who describes the perpetrators as, “Scumbags!   My boss wants me to write a feature article.”

"Iol won't agree to that"

Tyler does not think that Iolo will agree to that, as he does not want to draw attention to it.

"We can't just ignore it"

“We can’t just ignore it,” insists Kelly, and Hywel  agrees that it is her job to write about it;

"Better take a few pictures now"

they should probably take a few pictures now – there will be no point after they have cleaned it.

Anita makes herself look presentable

Anita makes sure that her APD logo is visible when she poses for the photographs.

DJ – castration expert

In the farmhouse, Eileen cannot believe that DJ castrated all those calves so quickly, and he protests that it was not difficult.   “It would have taken me ages to put them all through the crush,” she goes on,

Eifion comes in

and then Eifion comes in, looking very subdued.

He has brought Eileen a bottle, as he drank so much of hers,

"I would never have been part of it"

and apologises, “Look, Eileen, I know you’ll never forgive me for what happened to Fflam – but I would never have been a part of it, if I’d known what they were doing.”

"Yes, I know that, Eifion"

Eileen appreciates that, and he refuses the offer of a cup of tea, quickly leaving the farm;

"I'm going to help the clean-up"

“I’m going to the village to help clean that graffiti.”   Eileen had heard about that and describes whoever did it as vile.

"I'd like to put them through the crush!"

DJ would like to put them through the cattle crush.

After he has gone, DJ comments that he does not look too special,

"It turns my stomach"

and Eileen grimaces, “It turns my stomach, thinking about what happened to him!”

"When dogs get a taste of blood . . ."

DJ points out that things could have been much worse, as when dogs get a taste of blood . . .

"You need your energy after all that castrating"

Eileen stops him there, not wanting to hear any more, and gives him a slice of cake, explaining that it is hours since he had breakfast;  “You need your energy after all that castrating.”

Anita tries to look photogenic

Kelly has taken the photographs for her article,

"Could you state that APD gave the cleaning materials?"

and Anita wonders if she could state that APD gave the cleaning materials for free.

"You want to advertise APD?   No!"

“Auntie Neet, my mates are traumatised – and if you want to advertise APD?   No!” is the stern answer.

"I'm going to see Iolo"

Kelly intends to see Iolo,

"Give him some time, Kel"

but is advised by Tyler to give him some time.   Siôn and Tesni arrive and join Cassie, who is already surveying the spectacle.

"It's hard to believe this can happen"

“It’s hard to believe this can happen in rural Wales!” Siôn exclaims, but Tesni points out that homophobia is everywhere.   He imagines that he could possibly be a target as well;

"We sell 'Remember Treweryn' mugs"

“I am Iolo’s father – and we sell ‘Remember Treweryn’ mugs – not everybody likes things like that.”   Tesni remarks that they are no ‘Banksy’.

"They don't even know where Treweryn is!"

Cassie come to the conclusion, “I don’t think the people who did this know where Treweryn is – let alone your mugs!”

"The sooner they get rid of that, the better!"

When she reaches the Deri, she tells Jaclyn, “The soon as they get rid of that off the wall, the better!” and Jaclyn wonders what is wrong with those people.

"I've made a huge batch of Spanish stew"

Then she advises that she has made a huge batch of Spanish stew;

"There was too much paprika in it last time"

“I wasn’t going to mention that, but in my opinion, there was too much paprika in it last time,” Cassie says, “I was worried that it was too spicy for the customers.”

Jaclyn does not like this criticism;  “You either want an authentic Spanish recipe or you don’t!” which ends the conversation.

"I thought I'd ask Tesni if she would like a job here"

Cassie thought she would ask Tesni if she would like a job in the pub, assuming that she will not want to work with Siôn after they split.

"She won't want to work there"

Jaclyn replies that they are as close as ever, and that she only moved out because of the colitis;  “She won’t want to work here – she’s too busy in Y Winllan.”

"Are you all right, Iolo"

Kelly goes into number 7 and asks Iolo if he is all right;  “No,” he angrily replies, and Kelly agrees that it is really awful, but her editor wants her to do an article.

"You're not going to write a word about this!"

His immediate response is, “No way!   You’re not going to write a word about this, understand?”

"People have a right to know"

She warns him that he cannot sweep this under the carpet;  “People have a right to know what’s happening in their village.”

"And that's more important that our safety?"

He demands if their rights are more important than his family’s safety.

"The best way is to expose them"

“The best way of stopping these thugs is to expose them and have the village support you,” she explains.

"If you write a word about this . . ."

“If you write a word about this, I’ll sue you for breach of privacy – do you understand?” he snarls, “Get out, now!”

"Out, Kelly – now!"

She reluctantly does so.

"I don't know why I bother"

When Jaclyn gets home, she complains to Tesni, “I don’t know why I bother – I’m like a skivvy in the Deri!   And Cassie gets on my nerves – she had the cheek to say I put to much paprika in the Spanish stew!”   Tesni regards Cassie as a brave woman.

"And she wants you to work there, too"

“And she wants you to work there, too,” her mother goes on, “But don’t worry – I told her you weren’t interested.”

"What – without consulting me first?"

Tesni is angry that she was not consulted first, but Jaclyn continues, “Well, I’ve told her now – so a Cae Glas ready meal and a film?

"Shall we have a lazy afternoon?"

“Shall we have a lazy afternoon?”

"I'm going to Y Felin to see Siôn"

Tesni announces that she is going to Y Felin to see Siôn;  “And before you say anything, I shall be late tonight.”

Jaclyn settles down to watch TV

Jaclyn turns on the television.

"Are you expecting someone?"

DJ comes into the farmhouse, asking if Eileen has seen his drill, and is surprised to see the table laid for a meal;  “Are you expecting someone?” he asks her.

“Yes, someone who has been very supportive recently,” she answers,

"It's you, you idiot!"

“It’s you, you idiot!   Sit down!”   He protests that he has a lot of work to do, but she demands, “Who’s the boss here?   Sit down, and open that bottle if you want something to do.

"I don't know how I would have coped"

“I don’t know how I would have coped without you these last few weeks.   It’s so nice to have you back home.”

"Sioned wouldn't agree"

He is doubtful whether Sioned would share her opinion, but Eileen says that is her loss;

"It's nice to have a break from her antics"

“It’s nice to have a break from her antics – she’ll want to carry on with her big plans once she’s back.”

DJ appreciates how stubborn Sioned can be, but Eileen knows that she has to be realistic as well;

"She'll wan to make buffalo milk yoghurt next!"

“She’ll want to make buffalo milk yoghurt or something, just you wait.   That’s why I’m depending on you to rein in her ideas.”

"I don't think she'll listen to me, Eileen"

“I don’t think she’ll listen to me, Eileen,” he replies, but Eileen thinks that if they stand together Sioned will not have much choice.

"Phone me back, Ffion, please"

Jinx is in the Deri, again trying to contact Ffion;  “Phone me back when you get this, please,” he says.

"I hate being a journalist sometimes!"

Kelly comes in, looking very disheartened;  “Do you know what, Jinx?   I hate being a journalist sometimes – prying into people’s lives when they’re traumatised.

"Iolo doesn't want me to write about it"

“Iolo doesn’t want me to write about the graffiti – but I have to, because people get away with whatever they want!   The situation’s getting worse – Hywel’s jumped on the bandwagon – typical councillor – but if it raises awareness, fine.”

Jinx's mind is obviously elsewhere

Jinx does not appear to have been listening, so she goes on, “Hello – earth to Jinx!”

"What would you do if you had £50,000?"

He asks her what she would do if she had £50,000 – he has it and does not know what to do with it.

"What the hell?"

“What the hell?” she exclaims.

"Taid gave it to me"

His grandfather gave it to him after keeping it under his bed.   “Imagine what you can do with £50,000 – look at Mathew – he invested in APD!” she squeals.

"I don't want it to change anything"

He protests that he does not want it to change anything,

"Just give it to me, then!"

so she immediately suggests, “Just give it to me, then!   Get a grip, Jinx – this is life-changing.   Or give it to me and I’ll come up with a masterplan for you.”

"Have you seen Dani?"

Iolo comes in and asks Jinx if he has seen Dani,

He wakes the slumbering Eifion

then, after waking him up, he asks Eifion the same question;

"Greta wants Seren to come over"

“If you do see her, tell her Greta wants Seren to come over.”

He carefully ignores Kelly

Pointedly ignoring Kelly, he walks out again.

"We'll discuss your fortune another time"

Kelly informs Jinx that she has to go, but they will discuss his fortune another time, “You lucky, lucky so-and-so!”

"I've finished the novel!"

At Y Felin, Siôn comes downstairs with the news, “I’ve finished the novel!” and Tesni congratulates him.   “I had hoped to celebrate, but under the circumstances . . .”

"Don't let the 'sickos' win, Siôn!"

She urges him not to let that stop him, or the ‘sickos’ will win.

"I've had a bottle chilling for weeks"

“I’ve had a bottle chilling for weeks for this moment,” he says;

"None for me, mind"

she reminds him that she must not have any, as she has to be careful so that she gets better.

She has a crafty look

While he is in the kitchen, she takes a crafty look at the laptop, reading, “Efan led her to the bed with the cover of pink silk.   She was shaking like a scared little chick.

"She breathed quickly, full of desire"

“She breathed quickly, full of desire.”   At this point she has to quickly return the laptop to the table, as he comes back in, very pleased that he has at last reached this point.

"I wanted to ask you a favour"

“I wanted to ask you a favour,” he says, Would you read it and give me your opinion?”

"Perhaps you should ask Cassie"

She suggests that perhaps he should ask someone else, possibly Cassie, as she is an author.

He insists that he and Cassie do not share the same literary tastes,

"I can depend on you to give me an honest opinion, Tes'

and in any case he does not want an editor’s opinion;  “I just want someone to tell me if it’s readable or not – I can depend on you to give me an honest opinion, Tes.”   She finds herself with little choice but to agree, and he hopes that the novel will impress.

She is not looking forward to this

Tesni does not look particularly entranced by the prospect

"We've got rid of it, Iol"

Tyler returns inside after the cleaning process has been finished;  “We’ve got rid of it – the wall is clean,” he tells Iolo,

"I had to do that video"

“I’m sorry, Iol, but I had to do that video.”   Iolo strongly disagrees with that, but Tyler continues, “We can’t live our lives being scared of doing things.”

"And we're not scared now?"

“And we’re not scared now?” demands Iolo, then they hear Kelly outside the door;

"Don't answer it!"

“Don’t answer it!” Iolo growls, but Tyler does so.

"I know it's really hard"

“I know it’s really hard, but I think it’s really important,” she tells Iolo;

"How many more times, Kelly?"

again he insists that he does not want her to write the article.

"What kind of life do you want for Greta?"

Tyler demands to know what they are going to do;  “Hide – like we don’t exist?   What kind of life you want for Greta?”   Kelly stresses that they cannot let ignorant thugs affect their lives.   “Don’t let them control you,” urged Tyler, “Come on!”

"Are you willing to look at it?"

Kelly has already written a small piece;  “Are you willing to have a look at it?” she asks,

He agrees to read it

and as he reads it,
"I won't publish anything you're not happy with, OK?"

she promises, “I won’t publish anything you’re not happy with, OK?”   Her approach seems to have worked,

"All right – publish it"

as Iolo agrees that she can publish it,

Kelly is delighted

and she smiles broadly.

"What if it had run up your leg?"

As they relax at Penrhewl, Eileen laughs, “Did see the size of it – more like a cat than a rat!   And you were in your pyjamas – what if it had run up your leg?”   The very thought of it causes DJ some pain, and as they laugh about the incident, they hear the front door open.

"Cosy – don't let me disturb your fun"

Sioned walks in;  “Cosy – don’t let me disturb your fun,” she comments

She looks at the bottle

then looks at the bottle which DJ brought.

"It didn't take long to get your feet back under the table"

“Nice – it didn’t take long to get your feet back under the table.

"Don't even try to explain!"

“Don’t even try to explain!”   She shakes her head and storms off upstairs,

They look . . .

while Eileen

. . . at each other

and DJ look at each other.
