A note has been left by the back door

Kelly, in her dressing gown and fluffy slippers, walks into the kitchen at Bryntirion and notices a piece of paper on the floor by the back door;

Kelly picks it up . . .

she picks it up

. . . and is shocked by what she sees

and appears rather shocked by what is written on it.

"I don't want any fuss on your first day back"

At Cysgod y Glyn, Ffion instructs her daughter, “Right, I don’t want any fuss on your first day back at school!”

"She will be like a little angel"

Jinx is sure that she will be like a little angel, and Ffion continues, “You’ll have to catch up with the work you’ve missed.

"Having to suspend my own daughter!"

It was so embarrassing, having to suspend my own daughter.”

"She has created something amazing"

Jinx points out that she used the time to create something amazing, as he displays a picture which Arwen has painted,

"It's only right that Mam sees them"

and when Arwen objects, he says, “It’s only right that Mam sees them – they’re good!”

“Mam doesn’t like to praise me,” Arwen grumbles, but this is contested by Ffion,

"I just don't understand abstract art"

who just points out that she does not understand abstract art.   The two of them to leave for school, as they do not want to be late on top of everything else.

"I wouldn't mind missing today"

Eileen looks under par when Britt arrives at Penrhewl;  “Miss the morning, miss the day – that’s what Gloria used to tell us as children,” she tells Eileen, who would not mind missing the day today, as Huwi has given her his cold and she did not sleep well.

"You go to bed, then"

Britt tells her to go to bed;  “I’ve got plenty of ideas to crack on with!”

"No more school puddings"

“No more school puddings, please,” Eileen tells her, but Britt has other ideas now that winter is approaching, namely ‘Cawl’ [soup].   “You mean the traditional St David’s Day cawl,” presumes Eileen, but Britt is thinking more generally.

"Penrhewl's produce, but with an original twist"

“We use Penrhewl’s produce, but with an original twist – we send the ingredients out in boxes so people can cook it themselves.”

"We've already tried that"

Eileen announces with satisfaction that they have already tried that, but is told that it could work, and that she should at least taste them, then she will agree.

Eileen asks her to turn the volume down;  “I just want our business to succeed –

"I'm angry with Sioned for deceiving me"

“I’m angry with Sioned for deceiving me the way she did,” explains Britt,

"That's nothing to do with me"

but Eileen stresses that is nothing to do with her.   “I just want Cae Glas to be successful,” Britt continues.

Eileen concedes that perhaps she will make one of the recipés;  she will be in the kitchen today, as Huwi is off school.   She points out that there is plenty of work to do at Penrhewl,

"I'm Cae Glas, not Penrhewl!"

but Britt protests, “I’m Cae Glas – not Penrhewl!”

"You said Cae Glas uses Penrhewl produce"

“But you just said Cae Glas uses Penrhewl produce – which means you’re partly responsible for the farm.   You can start by mucking out the sheep pen – OK?”   Britt does not look entirely happy about this.

Griffiths is certainly making himself at home

Griffiths walks into the kitchen at Bryntirion as if he owns the place;  he is carrying his laptop, and Anita is surprised that he is not going in to Tomos ac Ellis this morning.   “Everything I need is right here,” he replies, “I’ve had the phone number redirected to here.”

"Kelly will be happy about that"

Anita sarcastically predicts that Kelly will be happy about that.   Ieuan asks if he is in the way, and of course she denies that.

"No-one can see my leaflets there"

Kelly is at that moment in the Deri, when Gwyneth comes in and complains to Geraint that no-one can see her leaflets where he has put them,

He hands them back to her

so he hands them to her.

"Bit old-fashioned, aren't they?"

“Bit old-fashioned, aren’t they – leaflets?” comments Kelly.

Brynmor is sitting nearby and remarks that Gwyneth is not having much luck;

"It's nothing to do with luck"

she moans, “It’s nothing to do with luck – it’s difficult for anyone who’s just left prison to start over.”   He asks for one of the leaflets, and she imagines that he simply feels sorry for her.

"Do you want me to have one or not?"

“Do you want me to have one or not?” he asks, “It looks interesting.”

"Not as interesting as having a ride in a sidecar"

She replies that it is not as interesting as having a ride in a sidecar.   She has seen him tinkering with his motorbike in the garage.

"Kath and I are like Wallace and Gromit"

“Yes, Kath and I are like Wallace and Gromit – well, before she had the accident.”

"I've owned several motorbikes over the years"

“I’ve owned several motorbikes over the years,” Gwyneth goes on,

"I'd like to hear about your bikes"

and Brynmor invites her to have a coffee with him, as he would like to hear about her bikes.

"How did Sunday school go?"

In the bookshop, Jinx apologises that he could not do a shift last week;  “No need to apologise for looking after my granddaughter,” Siôn tells him, “How did Sunday school go?”

"Well, no-one fell asleep"

Jinx thinks that it was all right, and no-one fell asleep.   “I’m sure you’re a great teacher, and Arwen is lucky to have you,” Siôn assures him.

“She’s a great girl – and a great artist, too,” says Jinx, getting out his phone;

Siôn takes a look . . .

Siôn is a highly impressed by the artwork and cannot believe that Arwen produced it.

. . . at Arwen's work, and is enthusiastic

“I’d say they’re good enough to be sold here!” he enthusiastically decides, and at that moment Kelly comes into the shop, commenting that they look happy.

"What do the members think about the £250,000 offer?"

“I’m here on behalf of the Western Post, actually – I want to know what the members think about the quarter-million offer for Bethania.   Is there a vote, or what?”

"Er . . . its hard to know at the moment"

Siôn has to think quickly, and says that it is hard to know at the moment.

"They don't know, do they?"

“They don’t know, do they?” Kelly gleefully demands, and he answers that it is early days yet.   “It’s been two months, Siôn – why the deafening silence?”

"How do you know about this?"

He wonders how she knows about this;  she laughs that she is determined not to reveal her sources;

"This story is better than I thought!"

“But you’ve just confirmed it’s true – what a scoop!   This story is better than I thought!”

"It's a sensitive situation, Kelly"

Both Siôn and Jinx emphasise that it is not a story, but rather a sensitive situation,

"You know as well, do you?"

and she realises that Jinx also knows about it.

"It's awful that you're keeping secrets from the mambers

“It’s awful that you’re keeping secrets from the members!” she squeals, and Siôn asks what she is going to do about it.

"You're not going to come out of this smelling of roses!"

“Do you know what, Siôn?   You’re not going to come out of this smelling of roses!”   She turns and walks out of the shop,

"What is going to happen next?"

while Siôn and Jinx look nonplussed.

"You had a Ducati Monster?"

As he looks at photos on her phone, Brynmor remarks, “You had a Ducati Monster, did you?”

"I didn't keep it for long"

but Gwyneth says she did not keep it for long.   He cannot remember seeing her around the place on a bike, and she explains that things are a bit tight at the moment.

"I'm interested in this Reiki – for Kath"

“Look, I am interested in this Reiki – not for me, but for Kath.   I think it would help her sleep better – do you think you could call round tomorrow?” asks Brynmor.

She likes the thought of a new customer

Gwyneth looks pleased to hear this.

"I've decided to sell number 10"

Griffiths is tucking into his salad for lunch and Anita tells him that she has decided to sell number 10;  “It will be a lot less hassle than renting it out.”

"You should find a buyer from far away"

He advises that she should find a buyer from far away, who does not know its history,

"I want to sell it to someone local"

but she is adamant that she wants to try and sell it to someone local.

"I don't want to argue with my queen"

“All right, I don’t want to argue with my queen,” he says, “I’ll give it to Rhys as a project and keep an eye on it.”

"I'm not OK, actually"

Kelly comes in through the back door, and when asked if she is OK, answers, “No, I’m not, actually – and you won’t be either when I tell you what I found out about Bethania.

"The committee has been offered a quarter of a million!"

“The committee has been offered a quarter of a million for the place!   Two months ago – I had a tip-off through the door.”

Griffiths attempts to look shocked

Griffiths wears a puzzled look

Anita is furious with what she reads

and Anita reads the sheet of paper,

"Siôn and Megan have been keeping secrets"

as Kelly continues, “Siôn just confirmed it – he and Megan have been keeping secrets – oh, and Jinx knows about it, too.

"I'm going to write an article about it"

“So, obviously, I’m going to write an article about it.”

Griffiths appears anxious to know what she will write, and she has not decided that yet;  “But Bethania’s members need to have their say!”

"I was the one who started the committee!"

Anita cannot believe what she has read, angry that Siôn has kept this from her – and she was the one who started the committee to save Bethania.

"The whole thing stinks!"

Kelly’s succinct evaluation is, “The whole thing stinks!” while Griffiths attempts to avoid showing any signs of satisfaction.

Speaking of 'stink', Britt is shovelling sheep droppings

Britt is using a small plastic scoop to clear up the sheep manure, which is a rather arduous task;

This causes Eileen some amusement

Eileen comes out to see her progress and is highly amused.

"I'm trying my best here!"

“What are you laughing at?   I’m trying my best here!” snarls Britt.   Eileen recommends that she should use something other than that tiny shovel, remarking that it is like using a pocket knife to carve the Sunday roast.

"Get a wheelbarrow and a proper shovel!"

“Go and get a wheelbarrow and a proper shovel – and put the sheep muck on the compost.   It’s not rubbish – we use everything on the farm.”

"Why didn't you come and help me?"

Britt demands why Eileen did not come and help her right at the start, and is told, “I’m busy in the kitchen – I only came over to make sure Ianto was leaving you alone.

"The ram can get frisky!"

“He’s the ram – he can get frisky!”

Britt has had enough of this and gets out her phone;

It is hard to imagine what Garry can do about this

“Hiya, Gar – are you all right?   Guess where I am.”

"Why did you keep that from the members?"

In the bookshop, Anita is ranting at Siôn, “Why did you keep something that important from the members?”   He points out that it is not black and white,

"Megan felt there was a danger . . ."

and that Megan felt there was a danger . . .

"You and Megan are the danger here!"

She immediately protests, “Danger?   You and Megan are the danger here!   You should be ashamed of yourselves!”   She turns to Jinx;  “Don’t you agree?

"The future of your Sunday school is at risk!"

Come on – the future of your Sunday school is at risk – wake up, Jinx!”   She storms out of the shop.

She finds Kelly in the Deri

Kelly is working on her laptop in the Deri when Anita comes in;  she is in desperate need of a drink and asks Geraint for a large white wine.   Kelly can see that she looks flustered.

"I can't believe what Siôn's done!"

“Siôn!   I can’t believe what he’s done!” she exclaims.

"This will show him in his true colours"

“You know what?   He’s had a warning, and hopefully this article will show him in his true colours,” says Kelly.   Anita describes it as a scandal,

"Why are you working here?"

but wonders why Kelly is working there.

"Your boyfriend, taking over my home!"

“Because of your boyfriend, you know, taking over my home!” Kelly complains,

Geraint delivers Anita's drink

as Geraint brings over Anita’s drink.

"Right, I need a break"

She needs a break, and Anita has something to tell her;  Kelly hopes that it will be good news, but it is revealed that Anita is selling number 10.

"Is it all right for me to stay at Bryntirion?"

“Is it all right for me to stay at Bryntirion until I find somewhere else?”

"For how long?"

Kelly enquires how long that will be;

"Fingers crossed!"

“I am looking, and I hope number 10 will sell quickly,” is the reply.

“I would never make you homeless, Auntie Neet –

"Griffiths, on the other hand . . ."

“Griffiths, on the other hand . . .”   Anita stresses that he loves working from home, going on and on about his hybrid of working;

"I don't know how to tell him"

she does not know how to tell him.

“Don’t you?   Do you know what?   I’ll sort it!” Kelly assures her,

"There's no time like the present"

“There’s no time like the present!”   She puts her laptop in the bag, and tells her aunt, “Enjoy your wine.”

"You did a good job there, Britt"

Now Britt is back in the farmhouse kitchen and is commended by Eileen for doing a good job of mucking out the sheep.   “Like I said, I’m a hard worker,” boasts Britt,

"There's a farmer inside you"

and Eileen suggests that there is a farmer inside her, itching to get their hands dirty.

Britt definitely prefers cooking, and Eileen says that she is surprised such a good job was done in the shed, for a ‘townie’.

"It's easier doing a job for your own company"

“Well, it’s easier doing a job for your own company, isn’t it,” she answers and is reminded that the cattle need shifting to the middle field before the end of the day.   After all, she has said that she is a hard worker.

"She's taking advantage of me!"

Britt rapidly coming to the conclusion that Eileen is taking advantage of her.

"I want a word with you, actually!"

Griffiths is hard at work on the laptop when Kelly comes in;  he says that he wanted a word with her.   “Yes, I want a word with you actually!” she snaps, “Why are you working here when you’ve got an office?”

"At home and in the office"

He explains that hybrid working is the new way of doing things, half and half – at home and the office.

"This isn't your home!"

“There’s one problem with that – this isn’t your home!” Kelly emphasises, and if he asks whether he is in the way.   “Yes, you are, actually, because I work from home too, if you hadn’t noticed!” she exclaims.

He points out that she is welcome to have the table,

"Have you sent anything to the Western Post yet?"

and he begins, “Talking about your work, have you sent anything to the Western Post  about Bethania yet?   The real story might not be about self-important people like Megan and Siôn.”

"Telling me how to do my job now, are you?"

“Telling me how to do my job now, are you?” she demands, and he would not dream of doing that, but she just ought to get the members’ views, as they have the right to decide whether to sell, or not to sell.

"Since when do you care about Bethania's members?"

She asks, “Since when do you care about Bethania’s members?”

"The place means a lot to Anita"

and he says that the place means a lot to Anita.   He maintains that a proper discussion is needed on the future of the building;  they must get all the facts before people make the decision.

"You never know, selling might be best"

“You never know, selling might be best,” he adds,

He has not persuaded Kelly

but Kelly does not appear to be impressed.

"How did it go today?"

After school, Ffion asks Arwen how it went today, and is unenthusiastically told that it was OK;  “I know how to make you smile,” Jinx interrupts,

"Some of your pictures will go on sale in Y Winllan"

“Some of your pictures will go on sale in Y Winllan.   Siôn loved them and wants to hang them on the wall –

"No way!"

“not bad for a ten-year-old!”

"Perhaps we've got the next Kyffin right here!"

Ffion congratulates her daughter;  “Perhaps we’ve got the next Kyffin [Sir John Kyffin Williams, OBE, RA (9 May 1918 – 1 September 2006) was a Welsh landscape painter who lived at Pwllfanogl, Llanfairpwll, on the Island of Anglesey] right here!”   Arwen, of course, wants to know what is a ‘Kyffin’.

Kelly walks straight past Siôn

Siôn is sitting in the Deri when Kelly walks straight past him, so he follows her to the bar

"Can I buy you a drink, Kelly?"

and offers to buy her a drink.   “Trying to soft-soap me, are you?” she growls,

"I don't want to fall out with you"

and he agrees that perhaps he is, but he does not want to fall out with her;  he knows that she has a job to do.

"Half of cider, please"

“Half of cider, please,” she replies.

"I've got a job to do as well"

“What I want you to understand is that I’ve got a job to do as well on Bethania’s Committee.”

"That includes telling the member the important things"

She reminds him that that includes telling the members the important things.

"I thought it would turn people's heads"

He insists that it was significant offer, which he thought would turn peoples heads, so they would forget how important the chapel is to everyone.

"It's up to the members to decide"

“It’s up to the members to decide,” Kelly informs him and he agrees that she is right.   “So?   Are you going to tell them?”   Siôn will organise a vote to decide Bethania’s fate.

Siôn pays Geraint

As Siôn pays contactlessly for the cider, she says, “I should think so!”   He promises to try and do things better from now on,

"Thanks for doing the right thing . . ."

and she agrees not to write an article showing him in a bad light.   “Thanks for doing the right thing –

". . . and thanks for the cider"

“and thanks for the cider.”

"I wanted to see your swish new office"

Rhys comes over to Bryntirion with some paperwork for Griffiths;  “I wanted to see your swish new office!” he says.   Griffiths replies that Anita likes having him there –

"I'm not so sure about Kelly"

but he is not so sure about Kelly.

“Hybrid is it?   That’s the new arrangement?” Rhys goes on, but is told that it is not for him;  he is required as captain of the ship in the High Street.

"The news about Bethania has broken"

“And I’ve got a job for you, too,” Griffiths adds, “Selling number 10 for Anita – and the news about Bethania has broken.”

"Stroke of genius, sending that note to Kelly"

Rhys comments that it was a stroke of genius, sending that note to Kelly.

Anita comes in and hears them

Anita comes in quietly through the front door, and stops to listen to their conversation in the kitchen;

"I can't see those idiots in Bethania turning it down"

“I can’t see those idiots in Bethania turning down a quarter of a million pounds,” says Griffiths.

"We hold all the aces"

Rhys remarks that he and his business partner hold all the aces.   “The sooner that place is turned into flats the better –

"And I make a tidy profit in the process!"

“and I make a tidy profit in the process!” boasts Griffiths.

Anita is very angry

From her place by the front door, Anita looks very angry about what she has heard.
