Cai comes round the corner

Cai comes around the corner by the pizza shop, carrying a bag containing some cards;  he notices the sergeant, standing there.

Flowers are being left at number 9

She is watching as some of the villagers lay floral tributes outside the door of number 9.

"Any more news about Yvonne?"

He asks if there is any further news on Yvonne;  “You know I can’t tell you that,” she replies and he says that is what everyone is talking about.

"Happy St Dwynwen's Day"

He hands one of the cards to her, wishing her, “Happy St Dwynwen’s Day!”   Delyth is amused, but confirms that she is not interested;  Cai explains that he and Greta have gone into business together.

"There are laws against child labour"

She points out to him that there are laws against child labour, so, as he explains that Greta makes the cards and he sells them for charity,

Mark adds some flowers

they watch Mark, who is bringing flowers to number 9.

“Listen, are we all right after that situation with Iolo?” Cai enquires

Delyth is 'overlooking' the Iolo business

and she assures him that they are.

"Do you want to buy a card, Mark?"

Then he turns his attention to Mark, asking if he wants to buy a card.

Sioned sees a card on the table

At Penrhewl, Sioned also notices a card on the table,

Despite looking like a child's work . . .

picks it up and opens it, of course finding a question mark inside.   Although it looks as if it has been made by a child,

. . . she assumes it is from DJ

she assumes that it is from DJ.

Delyth goes into the pharmacy;  “I didn’t hear you leave this morning,” says Maya.   Delyth wants to apologise for the fact that she was really moody last night, because of our hard day at work.

"I thought you were still sulking"

“I thought you were still sulking over me delivering prescriptions,” says Maya, and Delyth is also sorry about that;  they kiss, rather half-heartedly.

"Thank you for this"

“And thank you for this,” Delyth continues, producing the card;

"No flowers for me this morning"

Maya regards it as cute, and wondered if she had forgotten, as there were no flowers for her this morning.

"I'm saving your present for this evening"

“I was saving your present for tonight actually – a surprise.”

Maya is well known for hating surprises, but it is simply that a table has been booked for them in the Deri, as it is St Dwynwen’s Night there.

"I hope it's not too early"

“I hope it’s not too early – as I’ve got rugby this afternoon,” says Maya.

"I wasn't expecting to get anything this year"

Outside the farmhouse DJ presents Sioned with a gift;  she was not expecting to get anything this year.   “I know we don’t agree on this situation with your mother, but I still love you.

"I've sorted out a surprise for tonight"

“You’ll like the card – and I’ve sorted a surprise for tonight – you’ll find out when you get back from rugby.”

"Oh – so this one is from DJ!"

Sioned finds this second card rather puzzling, as she cannot work out from whom the first one came.

"I'm simply the postman"

In the Deri, Cheryl is attaching the bunting to the bar when Cai brings her a card, stressing that he is simply the postman.   “Yes, I know,” she dismissively answers, “Thanks, Mark!”

"You're not supposed to know"

He points out that she is not supposed to know, but she describes it as, “A bit obvious.”

"Poor man's Valentine!"

Then she informs Cai, “I hate St Dwynwen’s Day – poor man’s Valentine!”   Cai thinks that he had better bring the card back next month in that case.

"Valentine's is the worst day of the year!"

She goes on that Valentines is the worst day of the year,

"Is everything all right?"

so he senses that everything is not all right.  “I’m just a bit tired – there are strange noises in the house, so I didn’t sleep great.   Doors squeaking, pipes shaking –

"A bit spooky when you're on your own"

“I don’t know, really, but it’s a bit spooky when you’re on your own.   Then, on top of that, it’s a blinkin’ lovey-dovey day, too!”

Mark is taking all this in

Cai realises that she is not a fan, and Mark has been listening to this;  Cheryl continues that her ex went totally overboard every St Dwynwen’s Day.   “He spent a fortune on things I didn’t want, love-bombed me –

"He treated me like a dog the rest of the time!"

“then treated me like a dog the rest of the time!”

"It's the small things that matter"

“Well, as a wise man once said, it’s the small things that matter,” comments Cai.   She warns him that if he does not want a drink, he should get out of her way as she has things to do.

"Right, I'm going"

Mark approaches her to say that he is going, but is reminded that he is in the middle of his shift.   “I’ve decided to finish early,” he replies.

"Who do you think I am"   Wonder Woman?"

“Who do you think I am?   Wonder Woman?” she shouts, then Sgt Fielding comes in.

"Before you get your notebook out . . ."

“Before you get your notebook out, I didn’t know Yvonne,” she is immediately told,

"I'm not here on business"

but the sergeant is not there on business.

“Oh – just get kicks out of wearing the uniform, do you?” Cheryl laughs.  Delyth would like to book a table around 7 o’clock,

"No chance!"

but is told, “No chance – we’ve been fully booked for the last couple of days!”   Delyth is sure that Cheryl can do something.

Sioned arrives home from rugby

After the rugby, Sioned has been brought home to Penrhewl by Maya;  she says that she misses playing in the game;

"A bit of light cardio"

it is suggested that she could introduce a bit of ‘light cardio’ back into her routine.  “Just a little bit as your body adjusts.”

"Now I have to wash this"

Now Sioned has to wash the kit;

"I get Delyth to do it"

Maya says that she gets Delyth to do it and offers to help Sioned with the job.

"You deserve that . . ."

In the deli, Cai brings Greta a drink;  “You deserve that after all the hard work you did at school today,” he says,

". . . we've sold 20 cards"

“And we’ve sold 20 cards.”

Greta is keen to make another one, and he jokes that she has must have a boyfriend, demanding who is the lucky man.

"For Dadi"

“For Dadi,” she answers, which he takes to mean Iolo, but she shakes her head,

"Not Iolo – Dadi!"

explaining, “Dadi,” indicating Dadi Tyler.

"A really colourful one"

“That’s a good idea – I think he’d like a really colourful one,” Cai tells her, and she proposes using glitter.   “We’ll take it down to the cemetery later – he’ll be over the moon.”

Now Greta has her drink

Greta starts on her drink.

"I'm glad we're OK again"

“Thanks for helping me,” says Sioned;  Maya is just glad that they are OK again,

Maya appears to have reservations

and they hug, although Maya is looking rather doubtful.

"Thank you for the card as well"

“Thank you for the card as well,” Sioned goes on,

"What card?"

but then learns that the card did not come from Maya.

"Why would I send you a St Dwynwen's card?"

“Sioned, why would I send you a St Dwynwen’s card?”

"I want you to go"

Sioned realises that she has made a complete fool of herself and wants Maya to go immediately, which she does.

She feels humiliated

Sioned is left feeling particularly awkward.

Mark is at Maes-y-Deri

Mark lets himself into Maes-y-Deri, and reaches into his jacket for something,

He searches for a pen

then looks in one of the drawers and discovers a pen.

"I shall need that table in ten minutes"

Cai is sitting at a table in the Deri which has a ‘reserved’ label;  he is informed by Cheryl that she will need the table in ten minutes and he complains that she is throwing single people out.

"Watching other people snog?"

“The last thing I’d want to do is sit there all night, watching other people snog,” she emphasises;  he thinks that she may have a point there.

Delyth and Maya arrive

At that moment Delyth and Maya come in

"Special romantic corner for you"

and are told by Cheryl that she has kept a special romantic corner for them, which means sitting by the bar, although Maya would have preferred a table.   “You should have booked earlier,” is Cheryl’s reply.

"That's how the posh restaurants are"

“This is what the posh restaurants are like now,” maintains Delyth, but Maya is not impressed,

Now Cheryl is off home

even less so when Cheryl announces that her shift has finished and she is going home.

"I hear that someone scored the try of the century"

“Anyway, tell me about the rugby today – I hear that someone scored the try of the century,” Delyth continues.

Back home . . .

Cheryl comes home to Maes-y-Deri and finds someone in the house, which makes her very nervous;

. . . Cheryl finds Mark already there

Mark suddenly pops out of the kitchen, telling her that he had a brainwave on how to help her, alone in the house.

"You jump out of the shadows!"

“There’s a murderer in the village and you jump out of the shadows when I come home!” she protests.

"Sorry, I didn't think"

He admits that he did not think;

"You never do – that's the problem!"

“You never do – thats the problem!” she snarls, “How did you think breaking and entering would make me feel?”

"I borrowed the key from Gaynor"

He explains that he has not broken in;  he borrowed the key from Gaynor.

"How did you get that?   Pillow talk?"

“How did you get that?   Pillow talk?” Cheryl demands.

"I'm really sorry for scaring you"

“Look, I’ve said I’m sorry for what I did – and I’m really sorry for scaring you,” he begins, but she stops him there.

"Not half as sorry as me, mate!"

“Not half as sorry as me, mate!   Go!” she orders him,” not letting him explain.   “I’m not interested – and give me the keys!”

"I promised to give them back to Gaynor"

He says that he promised to give them back to Gaynor,

"Keys – now!"

but she will not tolerate any argument.

"Don't come near this place ever again – understand?"

“And don’t come near this place ever again – understand?

"Idiot!"

“Idiot!”

Sioned is undeniably attractive

Sioned has smartened herself up for this evening;

"You look stunning!"

“You look stunning!” says DJ.   She does not know why they are making such a fuss just to go to the Deri, but he explains that it is a special night,

She is rather scathing about the Deri

which Sioned imagines will be tacky, if it is the usual.

"How many cards did you get, then?"

He enquires how many cards she received today;

"Just yours – why?"

“Just yours – why?”   He has heard that she received another one, which makes her stop in her tracks.

“I happen to know who sent it,” he continues, “Huwi-John."

That is a weight off Sioned's mind

“I did help him a little bit, but it was his idea.

"Why didn't you show it to me"

“The only thing I can’t understand is why you haven’t shown it to me.”

"I wanted to say good night"

There are footsteps on the stairs and Huwi-John comes in;  he is asked what he is doing out of bed and says that he wanted to say good night.   “I need to thank you for that lovely card,” says Sioned,

"I'm lucky to have the two of you, aren't I?"

“I’m lucky to have the two of you, aren’t I?

"We'll see you on the morning"

We’ll see you in the morning.”   Huwi returns to bed and they leave for the Deri.

'Little Things'

After Mark’s departure, Cheryl goes into the kitchen, where she notices a heart-shaped post-it note on a cupboard, with the words ‘little things’ written on it.

There is one on the fridge . . .

Then she discovers more of them, one on the fridge,

. . . on the kettle . . .

another on the kettle, some on the shelves above –

. . . and the back door

even one on the back door.   This seems to have changed her opinion of Mark.

Maya is looking out of sorts

At the bar in the Deri, Maya does not appear very eager to eat her food and is accused of sulking.

"A whiff of toilet"

“I don’t blame you – a whiff of toilet, every time someone passes,” complains Delyth, “I admit – I forgot and this is the best I could do at the last minute.   Aren’t you going to say something?”

Sioned is not happy with the Deri

The problem is compounded by the arrival of Sioned with DJ;  she is complaining that it would have been nice to go somewhere other than the Deri for a change.

"Swansea Marina or the Mumbles"

“Like Swansea Marina or the Mumbles.”

Maya is obviously not happy either

As Sioned looks awkwardly across at Maya, DJ’s excuse is that there is a special menu tonight

"Someone has to give tips to the chef"

and someone had to give tips to the chef.   “I’ll go to check which is our table.”

He asks Delyth if the food is good

"It's hard to go wrong with Cawl"

and she grumpily replies, “It’s hard to go wrong with Cawl.”

The atmosphere is rather fraught

Sioned is feeling uneasy, with Maya in close proximity.

Cai looks at his phone

Cai sits on the sofa at Y Felin, looking at his phone;

"Come on, Cai"

he puts it down and mutters to himself, “Come on, Cai,” then suddenly thinks of something and  picks it up again.

A message arrives

Mark is sitting alone at number 7, watching the television when he receives a message on his phone from Cai;

He is invited for a pint next week

‘Don’t be on your own.   Come and have a pint at the Deri next Thursday’.

"You said you never wanted to see me again!"

At the same moment there is a knock at his door and he is amazed to see that it is Cheryl, who asks if she can come in.   “You said you never wanted to see me again,” he reminds her.   She is sorry about that.

"For throwing me out, or calling me an idiot?"

“Sorry for what exactly?   For throwing me out, or calling me an idiot?”

“Make it easy for me, Mark –

"It was a bit creepy, Mark"

“fair play, it was a bit creepy,” she says.

"Yes, it was a bit stupid"

He confesses that it was rather stupid and he was an idiot to go to the house without considering how she would feel.   “I know that it came from a good place,” she replies.

She reads out the helpful hints

She takes out the post-it notes from her bag and reads them;  “Shelf clicks if there’s too much on it, fridge beeps if you don’t close it, next door’s dog barks at six every night.”   Mark confirms that the dog wants his food;  she insists,

"The heart shapes were a bit over the top, though"

“The heart-shaped post-its were a bit OTT, though.”

"I think the world of you, Cheryl"

Mark just wants her to be happy in the house, that is all;  “Because – I think the world of you,” he adds,

"I do quite like you as well, Mark"

and she admits that she does quite like him as well.

"Thanks for coming over"

Now she has said all she has to say, so Mark thanks her for coming over, but as she heads for the door,

"There is one more thing"

she adds that actually there is one more thing, and he wonders what that is.

And this is what is ir

She walks towards him and emphatically kisses him,

"Not what I was expecting"

which is not what he was expecting.

How long will this reconciliation last?

Once again they seem to have been reconciled.

They arrive home from the Deri

Sioned and DJ arrive back at the farmhouse, with DJ proposing to go straight to bed, as he has a lot to do tomorrow.

Sioned will watch some television

Sioned will make a cup of tea and watch some television.

"I know you were disappointed tonight"

“I know you were disappointed tonight – the Deri isn’t much of a treat!” he groans, but she unconvincingly replies that she enjoyed it.   “Are you sure?   You’ve been very quiet all night.”

"To be honest, I'm worried about us"

“To be honest, I am worried about a couple of things – not the foxes – that’s not important – I’m worried about us.

"There's something missing, isn't there?"

“There’s something missing, isn’t there?   Please, let me finish – because if I don’t tell you now, I never will.

"Here we go again!"

“I love you, DJ – I want you to know that more than anything – but I want to share that love with someone else –

"I'm ready to try for a baby again"

“and that’s why I’m ready to try for a baby again.”

This comes as a shock to DJ

DJ seems to be rendered speechless by this revelation.
