27 March 2024 (2nd)

They stand, transfixed . . .

For a few seconds, the two of them stare at DJ, speechless,

. . . under DJ's steely gaze

while he malevolently glares at them.

"Have you seen Maya?"

Downstairs, Delyth asks Kath, “Have you seen Maya?”

"She wanted to phone someone"

and is told that she went upstairs, as she wanted to phone someone.

DJ walks out . . .

DJ turns and walks out of the room,

. . . followed by Sioned and Maya

with Sioned and Maya chasing after him;  when he walks into the bar, Delyth asks him if Maya is up there.

"Yes, kissing Sioned!"

“Yes,” he loudly answers, “Kissing Sioned!”

He marches straight out of the Deri

which of course causes a great deal of consternation.

Sioned is in pursuit . . .

Sioned hurries out of the Deri in pursuit

. . . as is Delyth

and Delyth follows Maya, who has has also walked out.

They look quite shocked

Anita and Gaynor are left open-mouthed.

"Leave me alone!

Maya will not respond to Delyth’s entreaties, but heads straight back to the pharmacy flat, telling Delyth to leave her alone.

"Is the party over?"

The DI has been sitting in his car, waiting for Delyth to emerge;  “Is the party over already?” he asks and is told that Delyth does not feel like celebrating.

DI Lloyd would still like a word,

"It can wait!"

but Delyth is not in any mood to talk to him, insisting that it can wait.   “Where’s Yvonne Evans?” he demands and is told that Delyth has not seen her for days.   “If she’s left the village, I need to know,” he continues.

Delyth snarls that he is asking the wrong person and urges him to just give them five minutes.

They go into the flat

They go into the pharmacy flat,

"We need to talk about this!"

where Delyth demands, “We need to talk about this!”

"Now you want to talk!"

“Now you want to talk?   That’s a first – all you’ve done all day is make decisions for me – without talking!” Maya rages.

"I always knew there was something going on"

Delyth says that she always knew there was something going on between her and Sioned – but she was simply called paranoid.

“Because you were!” is Maya’s reply.

“How long has this been going on?   You were kissing at our engagement party!”

"Have you ever stopped to ask yourself why?"

“But why, Dee?   Have you ever stopped to ask yourself why?” Maya protests, “You’ve bulldozed me into every major decision we’ve ever taken – you announced out of the blue that we’re moving to Sussex – and I just have to be fine with that.”

“And that gives you the right to snog other women?” shouts Delyth.

"She's the only one who's been there for me!"

Maya maintains that she is sorry for kissing Sioned;  “But she’s the only person who has been there for me for months!”

Jason has been busy . . .

At Bryntirion, Jason is busy preparing the anniversary meal

. . . and thinks he has remembered everything

and believes that he has covered everything;  he takes out his phone and dials Kelly’s number.   After the answerphone beeps,

"You think I've forgotten our wedding anniversary"

he says, “Hey, it’s me here – I know you think I’ve forgotten our wedding anniversary today, but I haven’t – I was joking.   I’m in the house now and I’ve prepared a feast for you – we’ve got starters, mains, a pudding, flowers and wine – and a candle!

"Hurry home, so we can celebrate"

“So hurry home so we can celebrate – OK?  Love you!”

Kelly is in the middle of the dog liberation exercise . . .

In the darkness of the barn where the dogs are kept at Penrhewl,

. . . and dismisses the voicemail

Kelly receives the voicemail, but does not listen to it

Howard arrives with the lorry

as there is the sound of a lorry arriving outside.   Howard gets out of the cab

"Are you sure you can trust your friend?"

and she checks, “Are you sure you can trust your friend?   And that there’s no-one home tonight?”

"The dogs will be gone by the time they get home"

He assures her, “Sioned, DJ and Eileen are in the Deri and Huwi-John is staying with a friend – the dogs will be gone by the time they get home.”

They lower the tailboard

They lower the tailboard of the lorry in preparation for loading the dogs.

Delyth keeps watch from the flat

From the window of the pharmacy flat, Delyth checks to see whether the DI is still there and can see that he is, parked outside Tomos ac Ellis.

"Sussex will be a fresh start for us"

She tells Maya, “Listen, we can work through this, OK?   Sussex will be a fresh start for us.   I know everything’s a mess, but we’ll go to couples’ counselling.”

"Everything isn't going to be fine"

Maya starkly points out to her, “Everything isn’t going to be fine – I cheated on you!”   Delyth asks if they slept together and is told that they did not, but they kissed a couple of times.

"I can forgive that"

“I can forgive that,” Delyth insists,

Maya is very dubious about that

but Maya knows her better than that;  she is stubborn.   Delyth goes on that she wants to forgive.

"You need to be honest with me, too"

“But it would have to work both ways,” Maya warns her, “You need to be honest with me, too.   Tell me what really happened between you and Yvonne.”

"I've told you everything"

Delyth insists that she has told Maya everything;  “No, you haven’t,” she exclaims.

“We were in a relationship – it ended mutually – no drama,” summarises Delyth.

"Were you involved as well?"

Maya reminds her that there is a lot of speculation that Yvonne is involved with the body, and wants to know if Delyth is involved as well;  she needs to know the truth.

A message alert sounds on Delyth’s phone,

"I need the truth, Dee!"

but Maya continues, “I need the truth, Dee, or I don’t see how we can carry on.”

The text is from DI Lloyd, who wants to see Delyth;

"It could be important"

she says that it could be important and hurries out of the flat.

"Yvonne has been to see Laura's sister"

She crosses the road to the car and finds that the DI is approaching from the direction of the Deri;  “I know that Yvonne has been to see Laura’s sister,” he announces, “A few weeks ago – she was pretending to be a detective – did you know about this?   Are you trying to protect Yvonne in any way?”

"I don't know anything about that"

Delyth keeps insisting that she knows nothing about that,

"If you do, now is the time to tell me"

but is warned, “If you do, now is the time to tell me.”   She protests that she is not protecting Yvonne – in fact she hardly knows her.

"How many more times?"

She demands how many times she has to say this.

"Once I report this, there will be no going back"

“I want you to think very carefully about what you’re doing here,” he advises her, “Because once I report this, there will be no way back.   So, for the last time, do you or Yvonne know anything about Laura Thompson’s death?”

Delyth once more maintains that she knows nothing about it;

"I'm going to stop the transfer to Sussex"

“OK,” he concludes, “I’m going to ask the chief inspector to stop the transfer to Sussex until I’ve cleared all this up.”

"You can't do that!"

She replies that he cannot do that, but he simply tells her, “We’ll see, shall we?” and returns to his car.

Kelly comes back for some more dogs

At the farm, as they are loading the dogs,

Then they hear a car . . .

they hear the sound of a car engine,

. . . so Howard peers round a tractor to see . . .

so Howard goes to investigate.

. . . Sioned coming back . . .

He sees Sioned arrive in the car

. . . and calling for DJ

and go into the farmhouse, shouting DJ’s name.

"She'll hear the lorry"

He informs Kelly that Sioned is back, and she is furious;  “I can’t read minds, can I?” he snarls, “We can’t drive away – she’ll hear the lorry!”

DJ is not in the house . . .

Inside the farmhouse, Sioned looks everywhere for DJ, but without any success;

. . . so she sends him a message

she frantically takes out her phone and pleads, “DJ, it’s me again – answer the phone, will you?

"I've been so stupid!"

“I’ve been so stupid I’m so, so sorry –

"Please come home!"

“please come home so that we can talk!”

She disappears into the bathroom

Then she rushes to the bathroom where she is violently sick.

"DI Lloyd knows!"

Delyth goes straight to number 21, where Yvonne is pleased to see her;  “DI Lloyd knows,” reveals Delyth, and Yvonne realises that it was him knocking at the door earlier.

"He's cancelled my transfer!"

“He knows you went to see Laura’s sister – he just told me!   It’s over – he’s cancelled my transfer, too!”

Yvonne says that she can sort out everything;  “Don’t worry about DI Lloyd.”

“You don’t understand – it’'s over – you and I are going to prison!” shouts Delyth,

Yvonne says that she has a cunning plan

but Yvonne is adamant that she is not going to let that happen.   “How are you going to stop it?” Delyth demands.

The DI is looking at something . . .

The DI is looking intently at his computer screen,

. . . which he thinks will be useful . . .

then notices something particularly interesting;  he is studying Delyth Fielding’s record

. . . Delyth's maternity leave

and highlights the fact that she was on maternity leave at the beginning of 2007.

"I might be bringing someone with me"

Yvonne is on the phone as she comes downstairs at number 21;  “I’ll be there now,” she says, “And I might be bringing someone else with me.”

"A contact who has sorted me out in the past"

She informs Delyth that she was speaking to a contact who has sorted her out in the past.

Sioned realises that sickness might mean something . . .

Sioned returns from the bathroom at Penrhewl, and is looking really upset;

. . . and knows what she has to do

she realises something important,

She take the pregnancy test from the drawer . . .

so retrieves from a drawer a pregnancy test,

. . . with considerable trepidation

which she looks at with terror.

Jason is vainly waiting

Jason sits at the table, alone, when he hears the front door open, but is very disappointed to hear that it is Anita.   “It’s only me,” she announces,

"I've brought something to celebrate . . ."

“I’ve brought something to celebrate your first wedding anniversary –

". . . where's Kelly, then?"

“where’s Kelly, then?”

"If I knew, Anita, I'd tell you"

“If I knew, Anita, I would tell you,” he groans.

"Do you think she's gone?"

Kelly is sitting on a straw bale, with Howard and two of the dogs, in the barn, still waiting.   “Do you think she’s gone?” she asks

"I don't know, Kelly"

and he does not know the answer to that.

"It's Auntie Neet"

Her phone sounds and she finds that it is Auntie Neet, but does not answer the call.

“Does she know you’re doing this?” Howard enquires.

"Do you know what?   Just shut up, yeah?"

“Obviously not – or Jason,” she answers;  he was under the impression that they did not keep secrets from each other, but she snarls, “Do you know what?   Just shut up, yeah?”

"Are you two thinking of having children, then?"

“Are you two thinking of having children, then?” he asks and Kelly wonders what sort of question is that.   “I thought you’d be keen – you’re very good with Ifan.”

"I'm all right with silence, yeah?"

“Do you know what?   I’m all right with silence, yeah?” she snaps.

"The lorry is bound to wake everyone . . ."

After a few moments, she adds, “What if Sioned doesn’t leave?”

He presumes that they will wait until everyone is asleep;  “The lorry is bound to wake everyone –

". . . but if I put my foot down . . ."

“but, if I put my foot down, we should get away.”

Kelly is disenchanted with the whole idea

It appears that Kelly is not very impressed with that plan.

DL Lloyd visits Delyth's son, Simon

The scene shifts to an unfamiliar house, where DI Lloyd asks, “Can I confirm your name.”

The answer is, “Simon Pitch,” and he confirms that he is Delyth Fielding’s son.   He is assured that he is not in trouble, but the DI only wants to ask him a few questions about something that happened when he was a child.

They sit down for a chat

He is invited to sit down.

Delyth prepares to 'do a runner'

The door of number 21 opens;  Yvonne and Delyth come out,

She looks across to the pharmacy flat . . .

with Delyth looking across at the pharmacy flat.

. . . where Maya is about to try and contact her

Inside the flat, Maya reaches for her phone.

"Once we go, we can't come back"

In the car, Yvonne advises, “Once we go, we can’t come back – can you really turn your back on everything?”

Delyth’s phone sounds;  it is Maya attempting to contact her.

"I'm sorry – I can't do this"

She tells Yvonne that she cannot;  she needs more time to think, but is told that they do not have any time.   “I’m sorry,” says Delyth, as she opens the door of the car and gets out.

"We can't stay – we have to go!"

“We can’t stay – we have to go!” insists Yvonne, but Delyth’s mind is made up.

There is still no reply . . .

Inside the flat, Maya is listening to the phone ringing without any reply.

. . . as Sioned is also discovering

Sioned, in her bedroom, is still attempting to contact DJ and waiting for the result of the pregnancy test to appear;  she is increasingly nervous.

Anita brings Jason some tea

At Bryntirion, Anita has made Jason a cup of tea

"She's probably just forgotten"

and assures him, “Everything will be all right, you’ll see – she’s probably just forgotten.”

"Is Dad here?"

Then they hear an urgent knock at the door;  they find that it is DJ, demanding, “Is Dad here?   He’s not at home.”

"Are you all right?"

Jason explains that they have gone out for the evening and asks if DJ is all right.

“You don’t want to know,” DJ grunts, and as Anita describes how shocked she was about Sioned and Maya,

"On their own heads be it!"

he has a message on his phone.   “On their own heads be it!” he snarls.

Huwi-John wants something from the fridge . . .

Huwi-John is back at the farmhouse, about to help himself to something from the fridge when his mother instructs him to go to bed now and will accept no argument.

. . . but his furious mother shouts at him

She is in a furious mood and flings down her coat.

"You must have misunderstood"

Jason brings DJ a drink and suggests that he must have misunderstood what he saw with Maya.   “It’s less than a year since Sioned had that problem with her heart – that must mess with your head.”

"It's not an excuse to kiss someone else!"

DJ emphatically replies, “It’s not an excuse to kiss someone else, is it?”   Jason emphasises that he is trying to see things from Sioned’s side.   DJ sneers,

"No wonder you're such a pushover with Kelly!"

“No wonder you’re such a pushover with Kelly!   I know what I saw – and there is no way to justify it!”

Off goes DJ

He puts down the remains of his drink and marches out of the house.

Eileen wallops Sioned . . .

Eileen goes up to Sioned’s room and delivers a powerful slap to her left cheek,

. . . sending her reeling to the floor

knocking her to the floor.

"Ahem you any idea what you've done?"

“Do you have any idea what you’ve done?   You had a good man there – he was willing to run the farm for us and you’ve ruined everything – because you wanted to snog some lesbian!

"Have you lost your mind?"

“Have you lost your mind?”

What Sioned has lost is her pregnancy test

Sioned had dropped the pregnancy test, so she quickly picks it up again.

"What have you got there?"

“What have you got there?” demands her mother,

The look on Sioned's face says it all

then, seeing the look on Sioned’s face, she goes on, “What does it say?”

She does not need to confirm the result

Sioned sits down on the bed, looks at her mother, but says nothing.
