Dai and Diane are walking past the bus shelter, when Garry notices them, and comes across the road in a temper;

“What do you think you’re doing, leaving Gwern out of the team again, after that session on Monday?” Dai points out that he has the boy’s best interests in mind, but Garry insists, “He’s fitter and faster than lots of the others – and you know that!”

| "You don't know anything about rugby!" |
Dai emphasises that Garry is a soccer man; “You don’t know anything about rugby – there’s more to rugby than fitness and running around chasing a ball. It’s just not in Gwern’s nature.”

| Garry looks a little windswept |
Garry assumes that he has something against Gwern; “Or perhaps against me!” and as he shouts at Dai, is told by Diane to cool down.
 |
| "I'm pleased to see you're well enough to return to work" |
“For goodness’ sake, be quiet – it’s only rugby,” she growls, and Garry does moderate his tone, remarking that he is pleased to see that she is well enough after the accident to return to work.
 |
| "Thanks, Garry – you've upset my wife now!" |
As Diane walks away, Dai snarls, “Thanks, Garry – you’ve upset my wife now! Gwern isn’t good enough at the moment.” Garry assures him that he has not heard the last of this.

| "Has Ffion calmed down at all?" |
In the shop flat, Mathew asks Rhys if Ffion has calmed down at all, and Rhys wonders if he has given that ring to Tesni yet.

| "Since seeing the ring on Ffion's finger, I'm not so sure" |
He replies that he was hoping to do it on Saturday, St Dwynwen’s Day; “But, since seeing that ring on Ffion’s finger, I’m not so sure – it does look like an engagement ring, doesn’t it?”

| "Casanova boy, you're useless!" |
Rhys laughs at his discomfiture; “Casanova boy, you’re useless!”
 |
| "If you're not going to give it to Tesni, sell it to me!" |
and then he has the idea, “If you’re not going to give it to Tesni, sell it to me!”
 |
| "No way – that ring's for Tesni!" |
“No way! That ring’s for Tesni – when the time is right,” Mathew tells him, “I spent ages choosing it!”

| "Well, where did you buy it?" |
Rhys’ next question is where he bought it,

| "The new shop in the precinct in Carmarthen" |
and is told that it came from the new shop in the precinct in Carmarthen.
 |
| "Have you got something you want to tell me?" |
“Have you got something you want to tell me?” demands Mathew, but receives no reply,

| "Just keep quiet!" |
except that he is told to keep quiet. “Listen, don’t buy exactly the same ring,” says Mathew, “That’s bound to cause more fuss.

| "I've come to collect more of my stuff" |
Hywel is having a cup of tea in Llwyncelyn when Izzy comes visiting, explaining that she has come to collect more of her stuff. He protests, “You can’t just march in and out as you please!

| "You upset your mother in the Glyndwr" |
“And in any case, I want a word with you. You upset your mother in the Glyndwr on Monday, and I want you to apologise.”
 |
| "How long have you had the right to tell me what to do?" |
“How long have you had the right to tell me what to do?” she demands; he maintains that Gaynor is his partner – and that Izzy needs to treat her better.
 |
| "When was the last time you took your mother for a spa day?" |
“When was the last time you took your mother out for a spa day?” he enquires,

| Gaynor is listening from the stairs |
just as Gaynor is coming downstairs.
Izzy replies that he knows her mother; “Everything would be too hot, too cold, too fast or too slow for Mam! Mam is Mam, and I love her – but she doesn’t know how to have a laugh and relax. Not like Britt – she’s up for anything.”

| Izzy is suddenly aware of her mother |
Gaynor comes into the room, and is told that Izzy has just come to collect some stuff; “I didn’t know I had to make an appointment.”

| "Thank you for trying, Hywel" |
Gaynor thanks Hywel for trying.
 |
| "Keep an eye on Diane for me" |
At APD, Diane is sitting behind the counter, reading the paper, when Dai informs Mathew that he is going to measure the attic conversion in Llanarthur; “Keep an eye on Diane for me, will you?”

| "Right, I'm off, then" |
He tells Diane that he is off, but she ignores him.
 |
| "It's lovely to see you back at work, Diane" |
“It’s lovely to see you back at work, Diane,” says Mathew, but she takes no notice; “It’s nice to see things getting back to normal after everything.”
 |
| "What's normal?" |
Diane wonders, “What’s normal?”
 |
| "I thought we were getting on well, on the whole" |
Gaynor worries, “I know I made a fuss about the candles business, but I thought we were getting on well, on the whole.”

| "You have to talk to her, Gaynor" |
Hywel advises her to talk to Izzy, but she is eager to do that herself, rather than for him to get involved;

| "Izzy has always been stubborn" |
“Izzy has always been stubborn – and when someone tries to tell her what to do – well!”
He insists that Gaynor must tell her how she feels; “Tell her that you miss her.” When Izzy comes back downstairs, he leaves them to talk,

| "I shall be late for work, Mam" |
but Izzy is in a hurry to go, and refuses the offer of tea and toast, as she will be late for work.

| Garry arrives at the gym |
Garry comes into the gym, and finds it very quiet there; “The morning rush is over, and the lunchtime rush hasn’t started yet,” explains Rhys.

| "You offer private training sessions, don't you?" |
“You offer private training sessions, don’t you?” says Garry,
 |
| "What did you have in mind?" |
and Rhys enquires what he had in mind – strength, general fitness, cardiovascular? “Yes, a bit of everything – but it’s not for me – I’m fit enough!

| "I'm asking on behalf of Gwern" |
“I’m asking on behalf of Gwern.”
 |
| "He's far too young for me to train him here" |
“He’s only 10 – he’s far too young for me to train him here,” Rhys points out, “My Insurance wouldn’t allow it – and it could harm Gwern as well. I’m surprised you’re asking – doesn’t he do PE at school?”

| "He's good, too – one of the best!" |
“Of course he does – and he’s good, too – one of the best!” insists Garry; Rhys wonders why he is so worried,

| "Is he being bullied at school?" |
querying whether the boy is being bullied at school, and if so, advising him to talk to Gaynor.
 |
| "He's a Monk – he can stand on his own two feet!" |
“Bullied? Gwern?” scoffs Garry, “He’s a Monk! He can stand on his own two feet – just forget about it, all right?”

| "We've run out of plain crisps" |
In the Deri, Cassie reports to Dani that they have run out of plain crisps, and that she will fetch some more.

| "What's wrong with trying to support your own child?" |
Garry comes in, angrily demanding, “What’s wrong with trying to support your own child? Dai Ashurst insists Gwern’s not good enough to play in the rugby team! It’s obvious to everyone that he’s one of the best there.
 |
| "Rhys is barely out of nappies himself!" |
“And I just had Rhys, who’s barely out of nappies himself – trying to tell me what’s best for my son!”
 |
| "This is the under-12s – not the Welsh team!" |
Dani reminds him, “It’s the under-12s you’re talking about, not the Wales team – OK?”
 |
| "Gwern is being hard done by!" |
but he is adamant that Gwern is being hard done by, and it is not fair; he marches off upstairs.
 |
| "As long as he doesn't test his blood pressure, we'll be OK" |
“Well, as long as he doesn’t test his blood pressure, we’ll be fine,” comments Cassie, and then realises she should not have said it,

| "What do you mean?" |
but Dani interrogates her, and she adds, “You’d better talk to him yourself,” which is just what Dani intends to do.
 |
| "Dai Ashurst's a real bully!" |
Upstairs, Garry continues ranting, “Dai Ashurst’s a real bully – Gwern’s so disappointed!”
 |
| "Are you ill, Garry?" |
Dani is more interested in discovering if Garry is ill, but the only thing he is worried about is Gwern.
 |
| "Cassie said something about checking your blood pressure" |
“Cassie said something about checking your blood pressure – don’t deny it, because she was clearly saying something she wasn’t supposed to – so I’ll ask you again. Garry, are you ill?”
 |
| "I want to know why Cassie knows – and I don't!" |
Although he denies this, she knows that something is going on, and wants to know what it is. “I also want to know why Cassie knows, and I don’t!” He repeats that there is nothing to know – he is not ill –

| "We're not leaving this room until you tell me!" |
but she remarks, “You need to do better than that – you and I aren’t leaving this room until you tell me what’s going on!”
 |
| "It's almost driving me bonkers!" |
Dai follows Hywel into the Deri, and says he wants a word; “Garry and this rugby business – he’s going on and on about Gwern all the time, and it’s almost driving me bonkers. I don’t have time to do anything about it!”
 |
| "What do you expect me to do?" |
Hywel asks what Dai expects him to do;
 |
| "Explain that Gwern has no chance" |
“Well, you’re his friend – I thought you could have a word with him and explain that Gwern has no chance of ever being a rugby player.”
 |
| "They're only kids, Dai" |
Hywel points out that he is improving, and they are only kids, but Dai considers it unfair that Garry is putting so much pressure on the boy; “As well as hassling me!” Hywel agrees to have a word with Garry, and is advised by Dai to also have a word with Gaynor; “If little Gwern doesn’t come top in the form in everything, Garry will be after her blood, too!”

| "Diane's gone home to Bryntirion" |
On his way out, Dai meets Mathew, who is having a quick lunch, and reports that Diane has gone back to Bryntirion;

| "Crikey Moses!" |
Dai utters his usual, “Crikey Moses!” and hurries home.

| Hywel looks at Izzy . . . |
Hywel looks rebukingly at Izzy,

who is sitting with Britt.

| "So all this time you've been worried you're going to die young?" |
Garry has told Dani the full story, and she summarises, “So all this time you’ve been worried that you’re going to die young?”

| "I know it sounds silly" |
He says that so many people in the family have done so – he knows that it sounds silly.
 |
| "What is silly is that you haven't told me!" |
She replies, “No, what is silly is that you haven’t told me.”
 |
| "I didn't want to worry you" |
He maintains that he did not want to worry her.
 |
| "I'm not just worried now – I'm angry with you!" |
“Well, I’m not just worried about you now,” she snarls, “I’m angry with you. Is that why you were upset about the birthday party?
 |
| "When are you going to trust me, Garry?" |
“When are you going to trust me? We’ve been here so many times!”
 |
| "I'm sorry – but you know now" |
He says that he is sorry, and that she knows now,
 |
| "Yes – after you told Cassie!" |
but Dani agrees, “Yes, I do – after you told Cassie. Garry, I’m your wife – if you have problems, you come to me, not her. You don’t do that – you’ve just proved it! What do I have to do to get the truth out of people in this place?” She goes back downstairs to the bar.

| "Diane!" |
Dai arrives home at Bryntirion, and shouts for Diane;

| "I'm going away" |
she comes downstairs carrying a case, and he demands what is going on. “I’m going away,” she informs him, “I know you don’t want me to go, but I have to.”
 |
| "We've been through this, Diane!" |
Although Dai protests that they have been through this several times,
 |
| "The truth is I haven't got over anything" |
she continues, “I can’t stay here with people blaming me – you heard Garry saying this morning that I’ve got over the accident very quickly. That’s what people think, but the truth is I haven’t got over anything.”
 |
| "Since when have you listened to Garry Monk and his sort?" |
Dai growls, “Since when have you listened to Garry Monk and his sort?” but she imagines people still think she should have braked sooner. He rages that even Jaclyn says she could not have avoided the accident.
 |
| "I have to get some sort of perspective on all this" |
Diane responds, “I think I should have braked sooner – I have to get some sort of perspective on all this – do what I think is best for a change –
 |
| "It will only be for a little while" |
“and that involves me leaving – but only for a little while.”
She will not disclose where she is going; “If I say, you’re bound to follow me!”
 |
| "Last time you went to Australia for weeks!" |
He rages that she has done this before – the last time she went to Australia for weeks, and he did not even know if she was alive.
 |
| "I need to be alone – to sort things out in my head" |
“It’s different this time – I promise to phone you,” she says, “I really need time on my own, Dai, to sort things out in my head.”
 |
| They hear a car horn horn outside |
Then there is the sound of a car horn, and she realises that the taxi has arrived.
 |
| "Just let me go quietly" |
“Don’t come out – I don’t want to argue – just let me go quietly.”
 |
| This is all too much for Dai |
Dai looks very upset as she goes out of the door,
 |
| "I'll phone you, Dai" |
assuring him that she will phone.
 |
| "There's something I want to show you, Ffi" |
Rhys returns home unexpectedly, and Ffion hopes there have been no more problems in the gym; he looks very pleased with himself and says there is something he wants to show her.

| Ffion wonders what this is all about |
She is naturally very suspicious,
 |
| The old 'getting down on one knee' stuff |
especially when he gets down on one knee and takes out a small box.
 |
| "I think you'll like it" |
“It’s a bit different, but I think you’ll like it,” he says, revealing the ring he has just purchased.
 |
| "I don't like it, Rhys!" |
Ffion’s face falls, and she informs him that she does not like it; “I’m so sorry – you’ve gone to so much trouble that it’s only fair that I’m honest with you.
 |
| "I don't think getting married is a good idea" |
“And I’ve been thinking too – well, no, rethinking – I don’t think getting married is a good idea.”
 |
| Rhys is downcast |
Rhys cannot believe her sudden change of mind, and she continues,
 |
| "And I think . . ." |
“And I think . . .” he looks even more downcast.
 |
| ". . . its a fantastic idea!" |
But then she finishes the sentence, “. . . its a fantastic idea!”
 |
| "You deserved that, after what you did yesterday!" |
and enthusiastically kisses him. “You deserved that after what you did yesterday!” she tells him, and they embrace again.
 |
| Izzy and Britt are having a great time |
In the Deri, Gaynor looks across at where Izzy and Britt are laughing uproariously;

| "How are you settling in the flat, Izzy?" |
as she puts on her coat to leave, she speaks to them, asking Izzy how she is settling in the flat. Britt loves having her around,
 |
| "No – you're family, Izzy" |
and Izzy suggests that perhaps she should start paying rent, but Britt points out that she is family.
 |
| "Mam wanted rent from me" |
“Mam wanted rent from me – £50 a week, wasn’t it?” says Izzy,
 |
| "It's a good thing for young people to pay their way" |
and Gaynor cannot resist stating that she thinks it a good thing for young people to pay their way, face their responsibilities and be independent.
 |
| "An independent woman living with her mother?" |
“Exactly – and what independent woman lives at home with her mother?” demands Izzy “Especially at my age.” Gaynor is quick to point out that now she lives with her father, but Izzy says that she feels free in the flat, and Gaynor finally leaves them.
 |
| "Can you work tomorrow night, Cassie?" |
Garry comes downstairs and asks if Cassie will work tomorrow night; “To give Dani and I a chance to go out?” Cassie is quite amenable to this,
 |
| "Where are we going?" |
but Dani wants to know where they are going.
 |
| Garry has plans to develop the Deri |
“A business evening in this hotel at Chepstow – they specialise in setting up micro-distilleries,” he tells her, “I thought we could turn the Deri into a trendy gin bar – and it will be a chance for us to have a night out, to make up for things.”
 |
| "I don't want to go to Chepstow, or open a gin joint!" |
Dani, however, thinks differently; “If you think a business evening is going to make up for things, you’re wrong! I don’t want to go to Chepstow – and I don’t want to open a gin joint in the Deri, OK?”
 |
| "Why not ask your best friend, Cassie?" |
As she walks away, Dani suggests that he could ask Cassie; “She’s the gin queen, isn’t she? And your best friend!”
 |
| Garry does indeed invite her . . . |
Garry does in fact ask Cassie, “Do you want to come to a gin night in Chepstow with me? Dani can’t come – no babysitter. I’ll sort out staff for the bar – what do you say?”
 |
| . . . and Cassie will come with him |
Cassie agrees to accompany him.
 |
| "You look pleased with yourselves – what's wrong?" |
Ffion and Rhys visit Hywel, and he comments that they look pleased with themselves, wondering what is wrong.

| They announce their betrothal |
“Dad, we’re engaged!” Rhys announces, and Ffion shows off the ring.
 |
| "You can't do that – it's the law!" |
“Whoa now, you can’t!” says Hywel, “It’s not me, it’s the law. Rhys, you can’t marry Ffion, because she’s your father’s ex-wife –

| "I thought you would know that!" |
“I thought you would know that – it’s the law. Google it!”
 |
| "What about Jim and Eileen then?" |
Ffion demands, “What about Jim and Eileen, then? Their marriage isn’t legal, is it? But no-one’s stopped them!”

| "We're engaged, and that's that!" |
She is quite adamant that the ring is staying on her finger, and points out, “We’re engaged, and that’s that!”
Rhys describes her as determined, and she decides that nothing, not even the law, is going to spoil what they have.
 |
| "Lucky you didn't change your name after divorcing Dad" |
“Lucky you didn’t change your name after divorcing Dad, then!” comments Rhys.
 |
| Dai does not like being on his own |
Dai is already finding life hard, being on his own, and then the telephone rings;
 |
| "She's not here, Glenys" |
he finds that it is Glenys, who wants to speak to Diane. “No, she isn’t here – I thought she might be with you.
 |
| "Out shopping – spending my pension money" |
“She must be out shopping – spending my pension – yes, phone later.”
 |
| "It's not an emergency – well, I don't think it is" |
Then he makes a phone call, speaking in English, “It’s not an emergency, actually – well, I don’t think it is.
 |
| "I want to report a missing person" |
“I just want to report a missing person.”
