25 February 2021

Dani intends to open on 10 March

Dani is putting up posters on the boarded-up salon, proclaiming that her new venture,
‘Chi a’r Ci’, will be opening on 10 March.

"You remember I'm picking up Seren?"

Garry calls across to her, “You remember that I’m picking up Seren from school, don’t you?” and she answers that she has already given a bag of stuff to Iolo.

"We'' never be ready by then!"

Mathew comes out of the salon and demands, “You’re not serious, are you?   We’ll never be ready by then!”

"You said it's a month's work"

She points out that she was told it would be a month’s work,

Garry is laughing

and Garry is taking an interest from the other side of the road.

“Yes, a month’s work – I didn’t mean we’d be finished within a month,” Mathew stresses, and Garry laughs at the problem.

"That's your problem, Mathew!"

Dani makes it clear that it is not her problem, but Mathew insists that she has to take down the posters, and that they can discuss another date.

She flatly refuses, and he explains that they have not started the wiring;

"You'd better get started, then!"

“Well, you’d better get started instead of chatting here!” she snarls, “Go on!”

"Why are you still here?"

Then she shouts at to Garry, who is amused by this argument, “Why are you still here?”

Dylan and Sara are together today

As Garry goes into the café, he notices Dylan, who is with Sara today;

"He's really winding me up!"

“He’s really winding me up!” Dani growls, and Sara agrees that is what exes do.

Dylan reminds Dani that she has something to look forward to now, but she is having serious doubts;

"If you're having any work done on the flat . . ."

“If you’re thinking about having any work done on the flat, make sure everything’s down on paper first!” Dani warns her, and when Sara does not know what she is talking about, adds, “The salon flat – oh, I’ve just put my foot in it haven’t I?”

"I've been talking about buying the flat"

Dylan points out to Sara that he has been talking to Dani about possibly buying the flat for them, and is expecting that she will start shouting.

"That's fantastic, Dylan!"

However, Sara seems very pleased with this arrangement, describing it as fantastic.

Dani does not want a word mentioned to Garry about it.

"I don't Garry to know my plans"

“I don’t want him to know my plans,” she explains, then adds, “I have to go, because I’ve got builders to sort out!”

"We shall have to celebrate tonight!"

Sara thinks that she, Dylan and Ifan should celebrate tonight, and thanks Dylan for arranging it;  we are given the rare treat of Sara actually smiling.

Angharad prepares for the new furniture

At Llwyncelyn, Angharad is gathering together all the folding chairs, and other temporary furniture;

Then she hears the delivery lorry

she hears the approach of the lorry outside and is very excited.   She shouts, “It’s here!”

"I'm worried Gaynor won't like it"

She tells Hywel that she is worried that Gaynor will not like the furniture she has chosen,

"Of course she'll like it"

but he assures her that she will like it.   “I don’t want to let anyone down!” Angharad wails, with her usual exaggerated hand gestures, “I don’t want to disappoint her – or you!”

Hywel is naïvely confident that Gaynor will love it, and he opens the door for the delivery.

"You need a double layer of plasterboard"

At the back entrance to the salon, Jason advises that they need a double layer of plasterboard to start with, but Mathew argues that there is no time and that it is not necessary anyway.   “A building inspector wouldn’t agree – but you’re the boss,” Jason sighs.

"Is it OK for me to have Ifan tonight?"

Sara appears, wanting a word with Jason;  “Is it OK for me to have Ifan tonight?”

"Mathew, this mortar's useless!"

He refuses, and shouts to Mathew that the mortar is no good,

Mathew considers it perfectly adequate mortar

although Mathew can see nothing wrong with it.

'It depends whether you want build a sand castle"

“It depends whether you want to build a sand castle or lay bricks!” Jason exclaims, and then responds to Sara in similar manner,

"The answer's no, Sara"

“We’ve got an arrangement – and you wouldn’t change if I wanted to, so the answer is no!”

"I'm going to get your lazy cousin to help!"

Jason determines to get Mathew’s lazy cousin to help, but Mathew insists that someone has to stay behind the counter at APD.

"Unless you intend to clone yourself, Mathew . . ."

“Well, unless you intend to clone yourself, Mathew, we don’t have much choice, do we?” Jason rages.

"Do you want me to sort the builders out?"

In the Deri, Dylan asks Dani if she would like him to sort the builders out, but she is of the opinion he has done enough by investing the money.   “I know a lot of good builders,” he suggests, but she does not want to pay double.

Garry wonders what is going on

Garry comes in and looks suspiciously at the pair of them, so, for his benefit, Dani adds, “If I need more help, I’ll ask, OK?   I just want some peace to finish these accounts.”

"Phone me if you need anything"

Dylan encourages her to phone if she needs anything.

"What did he want?"

soon as he has gone, Garry demands what he wanted, and is told that it is nothing to do with him;  Garry cautions her, “Don’t trust him –

"I'm saying this for your own sake"

“I’m saying this for your own sake – and because you’re the mother of my child.”

"And I'm saying this as your ex . . ."

“And I’m saying this as your ex – nothing I do is any of your business any more,” she replies.

Gaynor canot find suitable words

Gaynor is speechless as she surveys the new furniture at Llwyncelyn;

"She's done this on purpose!"

“She’s done this on purpose!” she tells Hywel, but he, of course, says Angharad was only trying to help.

"I'm so sorry I'm too late"

Angharad comes in, and is sorry that she missed the movement of revelation;

"Please tell me you like it!"

“Please tell me that you like it!   I know it might not be the kind of thing you would have chosen, but I wanted to go for an exotic feel, to make you feel as if you’re on holiday.”

"It's great, Angharad"

Hywel naturally replies that it is great,

"It's a pity you didn't speak to me first"

but Gaynor would have preferred to have been consulted beforehand.   “Do you want me to send them back?” Angharad enquires, and Hywel tells her not to be silly, agreeing that it is exactly like being on holiday,

Gaynor does not appreciate his fatuous comments

while Gaynor glowers at him.

This is the nearest thing to a smile she can manage

She turns to face Angharad and manages to force the semblance of a smile, which pleases Angharad greatly.

They even get some Calypso music thrown in

She turns on some calypso music, and will get them a drink.

Mathew is having problems with a supplier

Mathew is speaking to one of his suppliers;  “Yes, I know what I said, but things have changed.”

"When will Iolo be finishing the plumbing?"

As he holds on, Eifion wants to know when Iolo  will be finishing the plumbing;  “After I get the sinks, which were supposed to arrive yesterday,” Mathew groans.

They hear an earsplitting shout of pain

Then they hear an anguished cry from inside, and as Mathew says they will not have any stock until next week,

"I've just had an electric shock!"

Jason comes staggering out.   “I’ve just had a shock – an electric shock!” he roars,

"The electrics are not supposed to be on"

but Eifion says the electrics are not supposed to be on.   They both assume that Matthew had something to do with this.

Mathew's phone needed charging

He confesses, “I turned them on last night – I was working late and my phone battery was dead.”   Eifion cannot believe that he turned on the electrics to charge his phone.

Jason stresses that he could have been killed;

"Mathew, what's wrong with you?"

“Mathew, what’s wrong with you?” he shouts,

"You should go to hospital"

and Eifion emphasises that he must go to hospital to be checked out.   Jason insists that Eifion should stay on site and Mathew go with him.

Gaynor is not at all happy

The Calypso music is still playing as Gaynor, looking very solemn, and Hywel, sit at opposite ends of the new sofa, with their cocktails.

Angharad is cavorting about in the kitchen . . .

Angharad is dancing in the kitchen, which Gaynor views with disgust.

“I’ve got a lot of work to do,” Gaynor informs them, but is urged to join the dance.

. . . and persuades Hywel to join in

Hywel agrees to do so, and after looking at both of them with incredulity,

This is too much for Gaynor

Gaynor turns off the music.

"I won't be able to concentrate!"

“Sorry to spoil the fun, but I won’t be able to concentrate with all this noise!” she says.

Angharad is insistent on making the dinner;  “Chilli – hot and spicy – but first I’m going in the shower!”

"This is a game – she always does it!"

“Don’t act so innocent,” Gaynor tells Hywel, “That ridiculous dancing and flirting – don’t be so naïve – this is a game, she always does it!   She’s jealous of me – she was after Elgan and now she’s after you.”

"All this effort is for you, Gaynor"

Hywel insists that all this effort is for Gaynor, but she asks, “Haven’t you seen the way she looks at you?

"Men – you're so blind!"

“Men – you’re so blind!”

He does not appreciate all these insinuations and considers that Gaynor is being harsh, taking into account what Angharad has been through;  “Just leave her alone!”

Angharad is pleased that all is going to plan

We see that Angharad has been waiting at the bottom of the stairs, listening to this conversation.

Garry goes to Hywel’s house, where Sara is once again complaining that Jason was supposed to pick up Ifan,

"They wouldn't let me collect Ifan"

and Garry says he would have done so, but his name is not on the list.

Sara is back to her customary moaning

“After all that fuss about not letting me have him tonight,” she moans, and heads to the nursery.

"What are you doing here?"

Dylan comes downstairs and asks why Garry is there;  he is told, “Leave Dani alone – I don’t know what you’re trying to do,

"Sniffing around, like a little dog"

“but she doesn’t like you sniffing around like a little dog.”

“Is that what she told you?” Dylan replies, and Garry informs him that they talk about things, and they have children;  he emphasises that they still have a strong bond.

"Being in business creates a strong bond"

Dylan emphasises, “Being in business with someone creates a strong bond as well – you obviously don’t talk about everything, do you?   I’ve put money into the salon – that’s why I’m sniffing around, as you call it.   Dani and I are in business together.”

"That's not going to happen!"

Garry is quite certain that is not going to happen, turns and leaves the house,

Dylan's sneer

as Dylan smiles.

Special added ingredient to Gaynor's meal

At Llwyncelyn, we see Angharad pouring a large amount of salt on one of the meals;  then she announces that the food is ready.

"That smells lovely"

Hywel comments that it smells lovely, and Gaynor says that she has gone to a lot of trouble.

Angharad goes to get a bottle of wine

Apparently she has also bought a special bottle of wine, which she has left in her room, so she goes to fetch it.

"Well, I don't want this every night!"

“Well, I don’t want this every night!   Cocktails, wine, food!” grumbles Gaynor, “I’ve got so much work to do – it’s about time she left.”

Gaynor find her food inedible

Then she takes a mouthful of her food, and discovers that it tastes awful;

"How's the chilli?"

Angharad returns at that moment and asks how the chilli is.

"It's perfect"

As expected, Hywel describes it as perfect, but Gaynor remarks that hers is rather salty.

"I haven't been completely honest with you"

“Right I’ve got something to tell you,” Angharad begins, “I haven’t been completely honest with you about Delyth – I told you that I got rid of the photos of her because it was too painful.   Well, I haven’t – I said that to make you feel better, Gaynor,

She displays the photo of her alleged daughter

but then I felt guilty, as if I was betraying her, so here she is – Delyth.”    She displays the photo, accompanied by more tears;

"Everyone loved her!"

“She was so pretty and intelligent – and just everyone loved her!”

Gaynor has noticed something

Gaynor does not by any means look convinced, and has just noticed the bracelet that Angharad is wearing.

"It was Mam's!"

“It was Mam’s!” she exclaims, then Angharad returns with a tissue,

"We were saying how much she looked like you"

and Hywel says they were remarking on how much Delyth looked like her mother.

"How many more times, Garry?"

Dani demands, “How many more times do I have to tell you?   It’s none of your business!”

"Why accept money from him, after all he's done?"

Garry wants to know why she has accepted money from Dylan, after all that he has done.

"He exposed your affair with Jaclyn"

“Sorry, what exactly has he done?” she asks, “He exposed your affair with Jaclyn – so sorry if I’m short on sympathy!”

“You don’t know him like I do!” he snarls, and Dani wonders if there is anything she should know.   Garry explains, “He’s not the charmer that you see –

"He doesn't always operate within the law"

“there’s another side to him – and he doesn’t always operate within the law.”

"Are you talking about Dylan or yourself?"
Dani laughs that she is confused now;  “Are you talking about Dylan or yourself?”

"I don't want him around my children!"

Garry insists that he is dangerous, “And I don’t want him around my children!”   She suggests that if he is so dangerous he should be reported to the police, and urges Garry to be honest.

"The only danger is to your ego!"

“The only danger Dylan presents is to your ego,” she informs him, “It’s a business arrangement, that’s all.”

"Just watch him, Dani"

He advises her to watch Dylan and leaves the flat.

She tries, unsuccessfully, to contact Dylan

Making sure that he has gone, Dani picks up her phone but is unable to contact Dylan.

Sara is making an official complaint

Sara is writing an official letter to complain about Jason;  “I’m sending a copy to him and to his solicitor.”   Meanwhile, Dylan looks at his phone, which he had left on the kitchen table,

Oops – wrong date on the phone

and which indicates that the date is 26 February, to see that he has a missed call from Dani.   “Jason’s not the only one who can play dirty, is he?” Sara remarks.

"Is Jason all right?"

Mathew is exhausted and is dozing on the sofa when Eifion comes in;  he asks if Jason is all right.   “Yes, he’s had a checkup and he’s home now,” is the reply.

"I thought he had died, by the look on your face"

Eifion thought Jason had died by the look on Mathew’s face.

"I want you to work the site from now on"

“I want you to work the site from now on,” Mathew tells him, “I’m going to be at APD.”   Eifion points out that it could have happened to anyone, and he is not sure that he can cope with Jason all day.

"He knows what he is doing – better than me, anyway"

“He knows what he is doing – better than I do, anyway,” Mathew groans,

"OK – you're the boss"

and Eifion says that he is the boss.

The contaminated food goes in the bin

Gaynor scrapes her salt-laden meal into the bin while Hywel cannot understand why she thought it was too salty, as his was perfect.

"I'm sure yours was perfect"

“I’m sure yours was perfect,” she says.

"I must have put too much chilli in it"

Angharad suggests that she must have put too much chilli in it, maintaining that she does not use salt, and that Gaynor will have plenty of room for ice cream to follow.

"Where did you get that necklace and bracelet?"

Gaynor demands, “Where did you get that necklace – and the bracelet?   It was you, wasn’t it?   It was you who scammed me!”

"I think you've had too much wine, Gaynor"

Hywel thinks that she has had too much wine, but Gaynor continues, “You want me to know, and that’s why you’re wearing them.”

"They were presents from Delyth"

Angharad insists that they were presents from Delyth, and cannot believe that she is being accused of doing something so awful.   As Hywel warns her to stop, Gaynor tells him not to take her side, and Angharad thinks she had better go.

"Take them off, before I take them off for you!"

“No!   You’re not going anywhere!” she is told, “Take them off!   There’s writing on the inside of the bracelet, ‘Dau eniad, un daith’. [Two souls, one journey]  Dad bought them for Mam when they got married.   Take them off, before I take them off for you!”

Hywel cannot believe his eyes

As Hywel looks on, open-mouthed, Angharad takes off the jewellery,

She can find no inscription

but upon examination, Gaynor can find no inscription, insisting that someone must have rubbed it off.   Now Hywel is convinced that she has had too much to drink, but Gaynor insists that Angharad did something to her food.

"I think I'd better leave"

Angharad picks up the items of jewellery and makes a hasty exit, as Hywel apologises to her.

Gaynor revisits the evidence

Gaynor goes straight to the bin and tells Hywel to taste her meal;

"It's completely different to what you had!"

“It’s completely different to what you had!”

Angharad is watching

Angharad can be seen at the foot of the stairs, checking that her plan has worked.

"I'm not eating something that's been in the bin!"

He protests that he is not eating something which has been in the bin;  “You have to stop this or you’ll make yourself ill!”

"Can't you see what she's doing?"

“You don’t believe a word I say, do you?” she rages, “Can’t you see what she’s doing?”

"I'm going out"

Hywel is quite sure that she is wrong about Angharad, and is now going out.

"That's it, run away!"

“That’s it, run away when we need to talk!” she exclaims;  he points out that she is not talking, but shouting.

"You have to sort yourself out, Gaynor!"

He knows that she has had a difficult time recently, but accusing everyone of everything is not going to help.   He demands that she sort herself out.
