Dani is on her way out of the Deri

Dani comes down the stairs from the Deri flat just as Britt arrives for her shift;

"Trying to sneak out, are you?"

“Trying to sneak out before I start work again?” she sneers, “I know you’ve moved out, I know Gwern is home as well – why are you hiding everything from me?”

"I'm really busy, Britt"

Dani protests that she is not hiding things, but is really busy.   Britt asks how Gwern is;  “Good, considering,” she is told, as Dani insists that she is OK.

"Because I asked you to pay rent?"

“I hope you’re not moving out because I asked you to pay rent,” Britt continues and Dani explains that it is not just that;  she has been thinking and needs a fresh start.

"I've sold 'Dan y Ser'"

“I’ve sold ‘Dan y Ser’,” she says, which comes as a surprise to Britt;

"I was offered more than the asking price"

“I was offered a lot more than the asking price, so I accepted.”

"I was thinking of selling this place"

Britt is thinking of doing something similar;  “Selling this place – we can’t hold on to bricks and mortar, can we?

"I hope I get as much luck"

“I just hope I get as much luck as you when I sell the Deri.”   Dani appears stunned by this news.

Cassie is not in a good mood

Hywel is walking disconsolately along the street when Cassie comes out of the shop, carrying a one-pint bottle of semi-skimmed milk.   She complains that she has been up since the early hours of the morning and has not yet had a cup of coffee.   “The noise from next door, now that Dani and the kids have moved in.   Yes, a house full of noisy children!”

"Dani's going through a lot"

Hywel appreciates that Dani is going through a lot;  “Oh, I know – she's got even more on her plate now Gwern’s home.”   Hywel asks how he is

"He was doing well when I saw him in hospital"

and she answers, “He was doing well when I saw him in hospital, but I haven’t seen him since.”

Dani is on the other side of the street

Danny comes walking along the street past Tomos ac Ellis and is about to go into the number 7;

"Dani!"

Hywel calls to her,

She goes straight into number 7

but she ignores him and goes into the house.

"Your mother never listens!"

At Bryntirion, Kelly complains to Jason, “I’ve told your mother that Ifan only does PE on Friday – she never listens!”   Her phone, which she has left on the worktop, is ringing

"It's your boss, Adam Jones"

and Jason informs her that it is her boss, Adam Jones, but she tells him to leave it, and he notices she has two missed calls now.

"I don't want to talk to him"

“He’s persistent – but I don’t want to talk to him, because he just wants me to write about the accident –

"Not people I know – no way!"

“and I told him I’m not poking around the lives of people I know – no way!” she stresses.

"People can be so underhanded"

He remarks that people can be underhanded;

"I'm sure you're right"

“I don’t know what that means, but I’m sure you’re right,” says Kelly.   He has told her before that they work her too hard.

"That's why I'm not doing it!"

“I know – that’s why I’m not doing it!” she replies.

"I love its when you stick up for yourself"

“I love it when you stick up for yourself,” he comments

Kelly kisses him
and she kisses him.

Dani is trying to sort things out

Iolo calls at a very cluttered number 7, where Dani is sorting through a few things and he appreciates that it has to be done.

Loud music and shouting is coming from upstairs.   “Right, are you ready to talk about the funeral?” Iolo asks,

"Well, it has to be done"

and in turn she comments that it has to be done.

"With the party upstairs?

Do we have to do it here, with the party upstairs?” he asks, and she explains that Mark is entertaining the kids, adding that it is like having another child.

Someone is banging on the wall

Then they hear banging on the wall between them and number 9.

"Can you be quiet, please?"

Cassie shouts, “Come on, children!   Can you be quiet, please?   Auntie Cassie is trying to work here!”

The noise stops . . .

She is very relieved when the music stops,

. . . and Cassie gets back to work

but before she can do anything else, Dani appears on the doorstep, apologising.

"I'm sorry, Cassie""

“I’m sorry – Mark was trying to entertain the kids and I didn’t realise how much you could hear.”

"It's been noisy day and night"

Cassie is also sorry, as it has been noisy day and night.

"Someone wants to say something"

“Well, it won’t happen again, I promise,” Dani goes on and is accompanied by someone who wants to say something.

"I'm sorry, Auntie Cassie"

“I’m sorry, Auntie Cassie,” says Gwern and presents her with a box of Roses chocolates.   She is delighted to see that he is home.

Eileen is making a cup of tea . . .

At Penrhewl, Eileen is just making a cup of tea, and it is fortunate that the kitchen door is closed when someone arrives.

. . . but has to return quickly to her wheelchair

She does not appear to be quite as immobile as everyone thinks, and as soon as she is back in the wheelchair, she invites the visitor to come in.

"I didn't know, Eileen"

It is Hywel, who is shocked to see that she is in the wheelchair, but she dismisses it as only temporary.

"I'm taking every day as it comes"

“I’m taking every day as it comes,” she tells him, “Thanks for coming over – why don’t we both have a cup of tea, so we can talk properly.”

"I can't make the tea, Hywel"

He realises that he is expected to make the tea,

What is Eileen planning?

and she looks very pleased with herself.

Iolo is absorbed in his phone

As usual, Iolo is looking through photos of Tyler on his phone when Dani returns to the house, confident that Cassie will forgive them now she has seen Gwern.

"You're not one that app again, are you?"

“Oh, Iolo – you’re not on that app again, are you?” she sighs, and who denies that he is, but is rather reading the messages.

"I want to celebrate his life"

“Well, talking about the funeral will bring everything back,” she points out, “I just want to celebrate his life – Tyler wouldn’t want a depressing funeral with everyone in black.   He’d want everyone to laugh – wear different colours.

"I want Greta to hear lovely stories"

“I want to Greta to hear lovely stories about her father.”

"I don't think I want Greta to come"

Iolo is looking increasingly uncomfortable and tells her, “I don’t think I want Greta to come,”

"It's important, Iolo"

but Dani maintains that it is important that she can say ‘so long’.   “But she’s still finding things difficult without him –

"I understand why Dad didn't let us go"

“I’m beginning to understand why Dad didn’t let us go to Mam’s funeral.”

Dani reminds him that he was not happy with that, and Iolo emphasises that he is the father now.

"Don't make the same mistake"

“So don’t make the same mistake,” she advises him.

Kelly comes in and hears Kelly on the phone

Jason comes in through the back door of Bryntirion just as Kelly is on the phone to her boss;

"I'm not changing my mind . . ."

“I know you’ve said, Adam, and I’m telling you I’m not changing my mind.

"Not for you or anyone else – ta-ra!"

“Not for you or anyone else – fine – ta-ra!”

Jason assumes that she was speaking to an old friend;

"You're going to be proud of me"

“You’re going to be proud of me,” she predicts, “I told Adam I understand why they’re asking me,

"I'm not reporting on my friends and neighbours"

“but I’m not reporting on my friends and neighbours – no way!”

Jason is anxious to know what his reaction was;

"He said my priorities are wrong . . ."

“That my priorities are wrong and I need a better work ethic.

". . . so I told him to stuff his job!"

“Yeah, so I told him to stuff his job!   Sling your hook, Western Post, Kelly Francis is out of here!”

"You're not serious?"

“You’re not serious?” Jason demands,

"You said I should stick up for myself"

and she reminds him that he said he loves it when she sticks up for herself.

"We need the money, Kelly"

“What I meant, Kelly, was that you shouldn’t write articles that make you feel uncomfortable – not pack in the job completely.   We need the money – we’re still paying for the wedding – Kelly, please tell me you have some sort of plan, and you haven’t just done this on a whim.”

She is beginning to regret her action

Kelly suddenly comes to the realisation of what she has done.

"Cassie says there's a lot of noise from next door"

“Cassie says there’s a lot of noise coming from next door, but you can’t be angry, can you?” says Hywel, “Considering what they’ve been through.”

"You don't hear much when you're stuck in hospital"

Eileen comments that applies to all of them, and enquires if there is any more news from the village;  “You don’t hear much when you’re stuck in hospital.   Colin said that Siôn is selling Y Winllan.”

"Y Winllan has been closed for a while"

Hywel confirms that the place has been closed for a while;  “I thought you would have heard, with all your contacts.”

"You haven't invited me to discuss Siôn White"

He comes to the conclusion that Eileen has not invited him there to discuss Siôn White.

She agrees, “There is something which you can help me with.

"I've started to remember things about the accident"

“I’ve started to remember things about the night of the accident.   Small details about who was singing, where I was sitting, what you were doing.

"Do you remember what you were doing – because I do?"

“Do you remember what you were doing just before the accident – because I do?”

Hywel is becoming concerned

Hywel is beginning to look very worried.

"I'm sorry for what I said on the phone"

Now Kelly is trying to compose an e-mail withdrawing her resignation;  “Dear Adam, I’m sorry for what I said on the phone – I wasn’t thinking straight.   After careful consideration – good one? – I think I should apologise . . .”

Jason closes the laptop

At this point Jason closes the laptop and declares, “I’m glad you packed in that job,”

"I'll find another job s soon as I can"

and now she is the one who is worried about the money;  she will find another job as soon as she can.

"I don't want you dealing dangerous people"

“All right, but not something that means you have to sneak around, dealing with dangerous people, please!” he stipulates.

"Don't take all the fun out off my life, like"

“All right, don’t take all the fun out of my life, like,” she groans,

"What did I do to deserve you?"

then looks at Jason and asks, “What did I do to deserve you?”

"The last photo of poor Tyler"

Hywel is looking at a photo on Eileen’s phone.   She tells him that is the last photo she has of the wedding night;  “That selfie of all of us on the bus.   The last photo of poor Tyler.”

"What has this to do with me?"

Hywel cannot understand why all this has anything to do with him;

"I could see everything"

“I wanted to remind you exactly where I was sitting – right behind you, where I could see everything,” she replies, “I saw you take the phone from Tyler while you were driving.

"You weren't looking at the road"

“When Gwyneth drove towards us, you weren’t looking at the road.”

"Please don't say anything, Eileen"

He pleads with her not to say anything, insisting that he was concentrating on driving and that he had not had a drink for hours.

"It could destroy your good name"

She imagines, “It could destroy your good name if people found out – not to mention what Dani and Iolo would say –

"And the police"

“and the police.”

"I'm begging you, Eileen"

“I’m begging you, Eileen,” he says, and she replies that she is not going to tell anyone;

"Then you can offer me a favour"

but if she is doing him a favour, the least he can do is to offer a favour in return.

Hywel is puzzled

He looks puzzled.

Cai has been to MFC

At Y Felin, Cai is watching the television and tucking into some fried chicken when Iolo returns home,

"Plenty of chicken here, Iol!"

refusing the offer of some chicken.   “You’ll be glad to know that Greta is upstairs with your father –

"Greta hasn't run away again"

“and she hasn’t run away again,” Cai remarks.

"I had to go to see the undertaker"

Iolo explains that his father picked her up as he had to go to see the undertaker, and that Dani did not go with him.   They had already been discussing the funeral all day.

"You could talk to me about it"

A text tone sounds on Iolo’s phone, and Cai suggests, “You could talk to me about it – you don’t have to rely on your Instagram followers.”

"At least, I don't get jokes and one-liners"

“At least I get sympathy from them, not jokes and one-liners,” Iolo snarls, as he goes upstairs.

"You'll be late for dinner"

Cassie and Gwern have been eating chocolates, and he is warned that he will be late for dinner;   “Auntie Cassie hasn’t done half the writing she planned to do.”

"What are you writing?"

She explained that she is writing a book;  “I used to write a lot, but I haven’t for a while.   I thought I should stay busy, rather than dwell on things in this house.”   When he asks if he can read the book,

"It was not my place to tell you"

he is told, “When you’re older,” and Cassie wants to apologise to him for not being honest with him about his mother.   “You know I’d never lie to you – but I didn’t think it was my place to tell you something so important.”

"I understand"

He says that he understands.

"It won't be easy with Uncle Tyler's funeral"

“But I’ll be here for you over the next few weeks – it won’t be easy with Uncle Tyler’s funeral next week, and then . . . you do know that a date has been set for your mother’s funeral in a few weeks, don’t you?   Why don’t I come with you?   So that we can both say goodbye properly – what do you say?”

"Yes, OK"

Gwern nods his head in agreement, and goes back next door to Dani.

"This makes it look like I can't hold on to a job"

Kelly is working on the laptop and Jason asks her how it is going;  “Awful!” is her response, “Because this CV makes it sound like I can’t hold on to a job.”

"I'm sure that's not true, Kelly"

He is sure that is not true, so she tells him, “OK, look – barmaid, reporter, running the café, the estate agent, mechanic for Darren, environmentalist.

"They'll think I can't do anything"

“I mean - potential employers will think I can’t do anything!”

"You just have to find the right job"

Jason maintains that she just has to find the right job, but she argues that there is not any time;  “You’re right – I’ve been an idiot, throwing that job away.   We’re going to be skint!

"Your mother will throw us out!"

“Your mother will throw us out if we can’t pay rent – we’ll be homeless – honestly!”

"You'll have more time to help Jinx now"

He instructs her to stop and is sure that it will not come to that;  “You’ll have more time to help Jinx now, anyway.   Perhaps you could ask him for more money.”

"Jinx doesn't need my help"

She answers that Jinx does not need her help, and when Jason reminds her that his arm is still in a sling, she points out that she is not a doctor.

He is confident that something will turn up and that they will get through this,

That does not stop her worrying

encouraging her not to worry.

"Are you feeling any better?"

Cai comes downstairs, carrying Greta, and asks if Iolo is feeling any better.

"This isn't healthy, you know"

“This isn’t healthy, you know – the people here love you and want to help you get through this.”

"I'm fine"

“I’m fine,” replies Iolo, still staring at his phone,

"Do you want to give him a cwtch?"

then Cai asks Greta if she wants to give him a cwtch and she nods her head.

Iolo realises Greta is there

She runs to Iolo and he embraces her;

"I'm sorry, love"

“I’m sorry, love,” he sobs.

"Can I delete this app now?"

Cai picks up the phone;  “Can I delete this app now?” and Iolo agrees that he can.

Dani is stocking up with crisps

In the Deri, Dani is collecting some bags of crisps for the children when Hywel comes in,

Hywel is about to slink away

but when he sees her, he is about to leave again.

"I'm sorry about what I said at the vigil"

She calls him back and tells him, “I’m sorry about what I said at the vigil, OK?”

"You had every right"

He admits that she had every right to say that,

"The police don't blame you"

but she protests, “I had no right – the police explained what happened and they don’t blame you.   I should have known you wouldn’t put peoples lives in danger.

"People don't blame you, Hywel"

“And I’m sorry if I made you feel like everyone blames you, because they don’t.   Gwern’s home now and he’s happy and healthy.”

"Not everyone was that lucky"

“Not everyone was that lucky,” Hywel observes, but she insists that he cannot blame himself for that, stressing that it was an accident,

"Don't let anyone tell you otherwise

and he should not let anyone tell him otherwise.

Hywel is not reassured

As she leaves the Deri, Hywel does not appear very reassured.
