28 April 2020

Mathew has returned home very soon . . .
DJ puts down on the table several get well cards as Sioned is helping Mathew up the stairs to the café flat;
. . . after discharging himself from hospital
he is taking it very slowly as he has discharged himself from the hospital, against the advice of the medical staff.   “I knew the doctor didn’t want you to come home today,” Sioned scolds him, and DJ does not think it was a wise decision.
"He'll be all right with us looking after him"
However Sioned is confident that he will be all right with them looking after him,
DJ is eager to continue his interrogation
and DJ hopes that being back in the village will jog his memory, so he can better describe his attacker.
"I don't think Mathew wants to remember what happened"
“I don’t think Matthew wants to remember what happened,” she warns,
Mathew says nothing at all . . .
but DJ maintains that going to the scene of the crime and reconstructing the incident could help.
. . . simply going to unpack
Mathew makes slow progress to his room to unpack,
"I can unpack – there's nothing wrong with my hands"
protesting that his hands are all right.
"Thank you, Doctor Greta – I feel much better already"
Greta is playing doctors with Iolo;  “Thank you, Dr Greta – I feel much better already,” he says, and informs Tyler that he has returned home from Y Felin,
"I can only take so much of Anita's fussing!"
as he can only take so much of Anita’s fussing.   Tyler has promised to buy Greta a unicorn headband for a party to which she is going.
"Right, doctor – are we going?"
“Right, doctor – are we going?” he says,
She hurries to the door
and Greta compliantly heads towards the door;  Iolo warns him to be careful,
"I'm sure Mathew thought he would be all right"
as he is sure that Mathew was under the impression that he would be all right.
DJ is reading the Western Post
DJ is reading the Western Post when Mathew returns, and directs him to the Welsh cakes which Eileen has made for him;
"Sorry, I ate one or two of them"
“Sorry, I ate one or two while you were unpacking,” he confesses.
Mathew sits down awkwardly . . .
As Mathew sits down awkwardly on the sofa, DJ tells him that Sioned has gone to the café to get some sandwiches.
. . . and notices the newspaper item
Mathew notices the front page of the paper, and particularly the words ‘Acid Attack on Local Man’.
"No, your name is not mentioned"
He demands whether the item mentions his name, and is told that it does not;  Mathew’s phone sounds,
He ignores a call from Tesni
and we can see that it is a call from Tesni, which he ignores.   “Tesni doesn’t know yet – Gerwyn and Jaclyn want to tell her face to face,” he says.
"Are you sure you haven't fallen out with someone?"
“I know you don’t want to talk about it, but are you sure you haven’t fallen out someone recently?” enquires DJ, and Mathew replies that he has been through all this with the police.   He is again asked if he has fallen out with anyone, and Mathew stresses that he is not lying.
"I'm trying to find out why anyone would attack you"
“I’m just trying to find out why anyone would attack you,” DJ insists.
Mathew is becoming rather wound up by this time, and makes it quite clear,
"I haven't done anything to anyone!"
“I haven’t upset anyone and I don’t know why anyone would attack me – I haven’t done anything to anyone!”
“I promise you that we shall catch whoever did this, and he’ll be punished,” DJ declares,
"I don't care – it won't change anything"
but Mathew does not care, as it will not change anything.
Colin has chocolates for Kath
Colin arrives at Maes-y-Deri with a box of chocolates for Kath,
"I know – you want a gossip, don't you?"
so she assumes that he has come for a gossip;
"I wanted to see how you and Mark are doing, after . . ."
he assures her that he simply wanted to see how she and Mark are doing after Debbie ‘did a runner’.
"It's true, then – she's 'on the run'?"
He looks extremely uncomfortable, and comments, “So it’s definitely true then – she is ‘on the run’?”   Kath points out that Debbie did not spare a thought for Ricky, or those at home who will be questioned.
"The village is better off without her"
Colin is of the opinion that the village is better off without her, adding, “I’m sure Mark will need more than chocolates, poor thing.”
"Was there anything else, Colin?"
She realises that there is something else he has to say, and he points out that it is rather delicate;
"I've decided there won't be credit available"
“As you know, I’m the manager of the shop now – and I’ve decided that there won’t be credit available to anyone now.   I want everyone with a slate to pay it off as soon as possible.”
"In instalments, I hope?"
Kath is hopeful that it will be in instalments,
"Your slate is the highest we've got!"
and Colin continues, “The thing is, your slate is a bit high – well, it’s the highest we’ve got!”
Colin looks for the exact figure
He takes some papers from his pocket, and gives her the exact figure, “£326.83!” which comes as a great surprise to Kath;
Kath is incredulous
she snatches the papers and looks at them with amazement.
"I shall be staying here tonight"
In the café flat, Sioned returns, having collected her belongings from Penrhewl;  “I’m staying here tonight, DJ will be tomorrow night and Rhys  on Friday night,” she announces,
"We're not leaving you on your own"
“We’re not leaving you on your own until they catch whoever did this,” and she shows him the rota on her phone.   He maintains that there is no need for that,
"You were a huge support to me with that Jessie stuff"
but she insists, “You were a huge support to me during that stuff with Jessie  – it’s my turn now, OK?   There’s no point arguing.”   He is very grateful for their devotion,
"You won't be when you find out Megan's babysitting on Saturday night!"
but Sioned adds, “You won’t be saying that when you find out Megan’s babysitting you on Saturday night!”
"Do you know where Izzy is?"
Mathew asks if she knows where Izzy is, as he would like to talk to her;  “I’ve texted her, but she’s not answering.”
"Isn't she visiting Eifion in Scotland?"
Sioned believes that she is visiting Eifion in Scotland, and he says he will see her when she gets back.
He has been trying to contact her
We see by his phone that he has sent three messages to her, each becoming increasingly urgent.
"No way, José, is that mine!"
After perusing the paperwork in detail, Kath is quite adamant, “No way, José, is this mine!”   She runs down the list, wondering how he is sure that this is hers;
"Razors?   I never buy razors!"
“Razors?   I never buy razors!” she rages, and finds,
"Sushi?   Do I look like someone who buys sushi?"
“Sushi?   Do I look like someone who buys sushi?”   She suspects that it is Tyler’s doing.
"They said you had given permission"
“They said that you had given permission,” Colin explains, but she is determined not to pay for their purchases, and he will have to tell them to pay for their own stuff.
"See – the bill is in your name"
He emphasises that the bill is in her name, and she is the one who has to pay it – then she can get it back from them.
"I'll kill the pair of them!"
She is extremely angry.
Iolo hunts for the elusive last edge piece
Iolo has made a start on a jigsaw puzzle when there is a knock on the door, which he does not welcome;
Tyler arrives . . .
it is Tyler, who comments, “You should have given me a key, to save you getting up,”
. . . and shows Greta in her unicorn headband
and shows Iolo a photo of the cute headband he got for Greta.   Iolo reckons that she looks just like Tyler.
"Oh – someone's been busy"
When he notices the jigsaw puzzle, which Iolo’s father gave to him,
Of course, Tyler finds the missing piece
Tyler very quickly finds the only missing piece and completes the outside edge of the puzzle.   “I don’t know why I bother with jigsaws,” Iolo groans,
"I'll do anything you want, Iol!"
and Tyler says that he is here to entertain him – he will do anything Iolo wants.
Iolo does not take long to think of something
At this, Iolo looks as if he has something in mind.
Siôn is distributing a new local magazine
In the café, Siôn leaves a copy of a magazine on the counter for Gwen, then notices Mark, looking rather depressed, sitting by himself.
"Sorry about what you're going through, Mark"
“Sorry about what you’re going through,” he says,
"I'm OK, Siôn"
and Mark replies that he is OK.
Siôn leaves him a copy
Siôn hands over a copy of the new local magazine ‘Werin y Wenallt’.   [Folk of the Wenallt]
"If anyone else sympathises with me, I'll lose the plot!"
Kath has just come into the café, and approaches Mark;  “If anyone else asks or sympathises with me about Debbie, I’m going to lose the plot!” he growls at her.
"Is that going on my slate as well?"
“Is that going on my slate as well, then?” she demands, “You and Tyler have been putting stuff on my slate in the shop!”
"I haven't done that, Mam!"
When he denies he has done any such thing, she points out that it is more than £300.
Mark is told to pay for his own stuff
“Go and tell Colin to add up your stuff – and you’ll have to pay him.”
He replies that he has no money until payday, and she stresses that he has enough for a fry-up.   She wonders what she is going to do.
Tyler has been cleaning the oven
Iolo has set Tyler to work cleaning the oven, reminding him, “Right into the corners, please.”   Tyler can see that he is enjoying this;
"You said you wanted to entertain me!"
“Well, you said you wanted to entertain me,” Iolo reminds him, “And fair play, you’re doing a good job.”
"You missed a bit – just there!"
After inspecting the work, he maintains that Tyler has missed a couple of spots.
Tyler appears eager to get back with Iolo . . .
As they both laugh, Tyler moves forward and kisses Iolo, and this move is not exactly resisted;
. . . but his phone sounds at that moment
then the sound of a mobile phone interrupts events, and Tyler is informed that the party has finished, so he prepares to leave.
"Do you want to come back here afterwards?"
Do you want to come back here afterwards?” Iolo asks, “Stay the night and entertain me a bit more?   And Greta – not just you?”
"It would only confuse Greta"
Tyler does not want Greta to think they are back together, arguing that it would confuse her;  “Just get in touch if you need anything – you’ll be back on your feet before long.”
"You're just being selfish"
Iolo replies that he is just being selfish, and Tyler snarls that he is not the only one;
"You haven't asked how I feel about the court case"
 “You haven’t asked me how I feel about next week – the court case,” he goes on,
"Sorry – how do you feel?"
so Iolo apologises, and asks how he is.
"Not great"
“Not great, is Tylers reply, and Iolo assures him that he is here if Tyler needs to talk, then he leaves.
DJ is on patrol in the village
Officer DJ is on patrol in the village when he sees Ffion’s car arriving,
Ffion arrives outside Cysgod y Glyn
and she parks it outside Cysgod y Glyn.
"All right, Ffion?"
He asks if she is all right,
"I've just driven back from North Wales"
and she explains that she is tired after driving back from North Wales.
"You can't park here"
She is warned that she cannot park there, then DJ enquires, “Have you been drinking?”
"Why can I smell alcohol on your breath?"
She assures him that she has not, but he goes on, “Why can I smell alcohol on your breath, then?”
"Don't be stupid – you know I don't drink!"
“Don’t be stupid – you know I don’t drink!” she protests, but he still insists he can smell alcohol;
Ffion is in rather a quandary here
she looks very concerned.
Kath has a proposal for Colin . . .
Kath has gone to the shop, where she asks Colin to hear her out;  “What if I came to work here for you for free – and then you deduct what you would have paid me off the bill?   We can do that until the slate’s clean – what do you say?”
. . . but he does not need to employ anyone
Colin makes it quite clear that he does not need to employ anyone in the shop, but she insists that he needs some company, especially with what has been going on around there lately.
"I don't need a bodyguard"
“I don’t need a bodyguard,” he emphasises, so she changes tack, suggesting that they all need to look after Mathew now, in case the madman comes back.
"I'm surprised you don't have a big badge with 'Manager' on it"
“I’m surprised you don’t have a big badge with ‘Manager’ on it,” she continues,
Colin already has a badge
so he demonstrates to her that he already has one, although not very large.
A few people are watching the proceedings
As Ffion pleads with DJ not to report her, several people are gathering to watch the proceedings;
"I only had one drink, DJ!"
she explains that she has had only one drink.
"Is everything all right?"
Siôn is passing and enquires if everything is all right;  “No, he’s going to report me to the police!” wails Ffion,
"Could you go up to Arwen in the flat?"
and asks Siôn to go up to Arwen in the flat.   He volunteers to take her to Y Felin, and DJ points out that if she is over the limit, they will have to arrest her.
Siôn assumes that Ffion is drinking again
If it comes to that, Siôn and Anita will look after Arwen,
"I only had a small one"
and Ffion tries to convince him that she has only had one small drink.

"Look, everyone's staring at me now!"
“Look, Siôn and everyone’s staring at me now because of you!” she shouts at DJ, but he maintains that he is doing his job.   “It’s not a real job, is it?   You’re just volunteering,” she says, but he is adamant he has to stick to the rules.   “But we know each other,” she pleads, and he replies that he knows everyone in the village.
"I'll do anything to stop this!"
“Please – I’ll do anything to stop this!” she whines,
DJ regards that as bribery
and he remarks that he will forget that he heard her trying to bribe him.
Kath has now joined the onlookers
Meanwhile Kath has joined the three other people watching.
Mathew is having a sleep
Mathew is sleeping when Izzy rushes in,
"Dad just told me what happened"
as her father has just told what happened;  he says that she is here now,
"I don't want Eifion to know"
and that Eifion does not know – that is why he wanted to talk to her.   “I don’t want him to know – he’ll only tell Mam and Dad.”
"You need your parents at a time like this!"
Izzy stresses that he needs his parents at a time like this,
"They'll insist I go back to Aberystwyth"
but he answers, “They’ll just fuss and insist I go back to Aberystwyth – I just want to stay here.”
Izzy says that she cannot keep this from Eifion,
"This isn't about you, Izzy!"
but Sioned intervenes, “This isn’t about you, Izzy – respect Mathew’s decision!”
"All right – I won't say a word"
so she agrees she will not say a word to Eifion.
Now Gaynor has come to investigate
Gaynor comes along the street to see what everyone is looking at;
"They're breathalysing Ffion"
the police have arrived and they are breathalysing Ffion.
She is led to the police car . . .
As Gaynor approaches them, Ffion is put into the police car, and sobs, “They’ve arrested me – for drink driving!”
. . . and driven away . . .
The police car drives away,
. . . cowering on the back seat
with Ffion cowering on the back seat.
