Cai is still asleep

Ffion is attempting to rouse

Cai from his drunken stupor,

"Leave him, Ffion"

but Jinx advises her to leave him.

Britt is leaving the house

Britt is just leaving number 21 for work, and Colin gives her a hug;

"We'll have a romantic meal for two"

I’ll see you later tonight and we’ll have a romantic meal for two, just for us.”

Garry welcome her back

Garry is coming across the road and is pleased to see his sister.

"Aaron's a really city boy now"

“Aaron’s a real city boy now, isn’t he?” she says, and Garry replies that it is a bit more exciting than Cwmderi.   “It’s nice to see him happy – he’s got a job in a corner shop near Gloria and he’s enjoying it.”

"I'm not coming back to work for you"

“And what about you?   Are you looking forward to your first shift in MFC?” he asks, “Welcome to the team!”   He is very disappointed when she announces that she is not coming back to work for him.

"This is where you belong"

“Of course you are – this is where you belong.”

"We get on much better if I don't work for you"

“You and I get on much better when I don’t work for you – don’t you think so?” Britt demands.   Garry is convinced that she is bound to come back at some time, and she might as well do it now.   He stresses that MFC is a family business, but she is adamant she will not change her mind.

"But M is for Monk!"

M is for Monk!” he insists, and she replies that C is for ‘Come off it’.

She appreciates he offer, but now her place is in Cae Glas.   She tells her brother not to worry,

"I'm sure the cap will fit someone else"

as she is sure that the cap will fit someone else.

"I need your help, Math"

Rhys comes into the shop flat, carrying a box and says that he needs Mathew’s help.

Matthew protests that he is on his way to work, but is told that it will not take long.   Rhys has bought a present for Tesni and Matthew demands to know what it is.   He is told that he can have a pint if he will help.

"I've got half an hour"

“I’ve got half an hour, then I have to go, or Jason will kill me.   ”

Rhys destroys that excuse

Rhys says he just seen Jason in the van and he was going to Llanarthur, so they have plenty of time.

Britt arrives at Penrhewl

At Penrhewl, Eileen is pleased to see Britt back, and is told that Aaron is very happy up in Newcastle.

"Huwi's out in the mud all the time"

Britt remarks that Huwi is out in the dirt and mud all the time, but that is how boys are.

"Better than being stuck in front of a computer"

“It does him more good than being stuck in front of a computer for hours,” Britt replies, and Eileen says that he likes those games as well, especially the car racing one and the fighting one.

Karate gear for Huwi

On her way into the farmhouse, Britt picked up a parcel on the doorstep, and Eileen was starting to worry it would never arrive;  “Huwi has his first karate lesson this afternoon,” she explains as she opens the parcel.

Britt did not have him down as a ‘Karate Kid’ and Eileen wonders why;  “Perhaps he won’t like it,” Britt suggests,

"What are you saying, Britt?"

and Eileen thinks that she is insinuating something.

"A farmer into martial arts?"

“I’ve never met a farmer who was into martial arts, that’s all,” answers Britt.    She is assured that they don’t all pull ropes and cut down trees – she needs to move with the times.

Then Eileen hears a text tone on her phone, and as she goes to look at it, Britt pours herself a cup of tea.

"DJ can't take Huwi to Karate"

“Oh, it’s DJ – he can’t take Huwi to karate,” she groans and Britt immediately suggests that she could do it herself, but Eileen maintains that she is too busy.

"I can sort things out here"

“I can sort things out here,” volunteers Britt, but Eileen thought it might be better for a man to take Huwi – all boys together.   “I’m sure Huwi won’t mind you going with him,” Britt encourages her.

"Don't you think it will look a little odd?"

“Don’t you think it will look a little odd if he turns up with his mother?” Eileen wonders, and is told not to be soft, as plenty of mothers will be there.   Eileen says that DJ can take him next time.

DJ has an awkward customer

DJ brings Garry his breakfast at the Deri, and receives the complaint that it took a long time;  “We don’t usually start serving for another two hours,” is DJ’s reply, “Waffles, chicken and maple syrup.”

"DJFC, as you call it!"

“Or DJFC, as you’ve been calling it,” sneers Garry,

"That was only a joke"

and DJ insists that was only a joke.   “Very funny!” Garry growls,

"Yeah, it's all right"

then tries one mouthful.   “Yeah, it’s all right – I don’t know why everyone’s making such a fuss.”   He gets up, leaving the rest of his meal,

"Aren't you going to finish it?"

and DJ is surprised that he is not finishing it.

"Come and see me later"

“Come and see me later – I’ll be in the flat,” he says and he leaves the Deri, with DJ wondering what this is all about.

Cai shows signs of life

Cai is at last showing signs of waking up and Jinx wonders if he will be going to school.

"I don't want him anywhere near the children"

“I hope not – I don’t want him anywhere near the children!” Ffion exclaims, and tells Jinx to go, confident that she will be all right.

"Big question – will he be all right?"

“The big question is – will he be all right?” she adds;  Jinx tells her to phone if she needs anything.

Cai starts to move

Cai tries to sit up and she offers him a cup of tea;

"You can look at me, you know"

“You can look at me, you know,” she tells him, but he needs some water and stumbles across towards the sink,

He notices his weapon from last night

on the way noticing the broken piece of bottle he had used as a weapon last night.

“You didn’t hurt him, although he was frightened,” Ffion informs him, “But as I said to him, you would never really attack him with glass.”

"Why are you being nice to me?"

“Why are you being nice to me?” he asks, and she says that being angry will not help.

"Booking to see a counsellor was the best thing"

She adds that he made the most difficult step last night;  “Booking to see a counsellor was the best thing you could have done – I’m so proud of you.

"Right, I'd better go"

“Right, I’d better go – I’m doing the year 10 assembly this morning.”

"I'll see you a bit later"

Cai tells her that he will see her a bit later after he has had a shower and sorted himself out.   “Do you think that’s wise?” she demands,

"You stink of alcohol!

“You stink of alcohol and you look like death warmed up.”

He maintains that it is nothing that a shower and coffee will not sort out, but she encourages him to phone in sick.   “I don’t want you there with the children,” she informs him,

He sees the counselling site on his phone . . .

and he looks at his phone which has been left on the counselling website.

Ffion suggests that some sleep would do him good, and help him think seriously about what happened last night;  she will see him later.

. . . and looks puzzled

Again he looks at the phone, but cannot remember anything.

They assemble the bar stools

As they put the two bar stools together, Rhys says that he has already chosen a couple of songs for the karaoke;  “George Ezra and Ed Sheeran.”

"How about some Tom Jones?"

Mathew would prefer some Tom Jones, but it is pointed out to him that he is tone death, and can instead be in charge of the games.

"These instructions are wrong"

Rhys is having problems with the construction and blames the instructions for being wrong;  he has a piece which does not fit,

"Tell me why you bought these"

so Mathew points out that he is probably using the wrong screws.   “But first tell me why you have really bought these.”

"I wanted to do something nice for Tes"

“For the party tonight – that’s why I got express delivery.   I wanted to do something nice for Tes – she’s had a hard time.”   Mathew stresses that Rhys also likes her, something which he cannot deny.

"We're seeing each other – well, kind of"

“We’re seeing each other,” he admits, “Well, kind of – we’ve both agreed that it’s just a bit of fun – are you all right with that?   I know you finished years ago, but you’re supposed to stay away from your friend’s exes, aren’t you?”

"No-one sticks to that rule in Cwmderi"

Mathew reminds him that no one sticks to that rule in Cwmderi and he does not have a problem with it;

"Please don't hurt her"

“But one thing – please don’t hurt her – she likes to act tough, but she isn’t.”

"Who better to give her some fun?"

Rhys knows that, and brags,“But if she wants a bit of fun – who better to give it to her than me?”

"You're a bit more fun that Siôn White"

Mathew comments that Rhys is a bit more fun than Siôn White.

"A bit?"

“A bit?” exclaims Rhys, with mock anger, “Look, I know I don’t have a good track record with girls, but I do like her.”   Mathew considers that if anyone deserves happiness after the last few months, it is Tesni.

DJ goes to see Garry

DJ goes to see Garry in the flat above MFC, and apologises for his lateness.   “Busy morning – everyone wants fried chicken for breakfast,

"No-one wants it for lunch or dinner"

“which means that no one wants it for lunch or dinner – and that’s a problem!” moans Garry.

"The Deri gets 20% of the profits"

DJ explains that the Deri gets 20% of the profit, but Garry stresses that he gets 100% downstairs;

"I want you to take it off your menu"

“Now I want you to take it off your menu!”

DJ points out that it is his best seller, and the last thing he wanted to do was to tread on Garry’s toes, but he cannot change the menu.

"I don't like having to ask twice!"

“I don’t like having to ask twice!” Garry tells him, with a note of menace in his voice.

"It's the only way I can help Sioned"

“Please don’t do this to me – it’s the only way I can help Sioned out at the moment,” DJ pleads.

Rhys is doing some cycling

As Rhys is out on a cycle ride, he sees Cai outside the chapel;

"There's a party at Gwyneth's house tonight"

“I know you’re staying off the booze, but there’s a party in Gwyneth’s house tonight, if you fancy it.   You don’t have to drink – Mathew and I can make ‘mocktails’.”

"I don't think I'll be there"

Cai does not think that he will be there and Rhys appreciates that it is probably too tempting;

"Not as easy as it looks, is it?"

“It’s not as easy as it looks, is it – staying sober?”

"I've got other things to do"

“Listen, much as I enjoy our little chats, I have to go – I’ve got other things to do,” Cai tells him.

"Sitting in the Deri with a bunch of fogeys?"

“What – sit in the Deri with a bunch of fogeys, talking about rugby?   Sounds like an amazing night,” Rhys jeers.   Cai makes it very clear that he is not going out, and is warned that he is going to miss out on a great night.

"I've had plenty of great nights"

“I’ve had plenty of great nights, believe me,” he insists, and Rhys rides away.

Huwi is back, but we do not see him

Eileen and Huwi are back from karate, and his mother sends him upstairs to change, then informs Britt that he loved it;  “And you were right, there were lots of other mothers there.”

"What do they do there?"

Britt wonders what they have to do there, and is told that it is all about ‘moves’.

"And Huwi was the best!"

“And to tell you the truth, Huwi was the best – he can’t wait to go back next week to show the bigger boys who’s boss.   I think he’s found his delight now – he’ll be a black belt before we know it.   His little eyes were shining,” she goes on,

"Not with tears, I hope"

and Britt hopes that it was not with tears.

"Nobody will want to cross Huwi Penrhewl!"

“Nobody will want to cross Huwi Penrhewl, I can tell you that!” Eileen predicts.

"I was scared of saying the wrong thing"

“Seeing her go through the pain of losing that baby, and knowing I couldn’t do anything was killing me!” says DJ, “I was scared of saying the wrong thing.”

"But you did – just like me!"

Garry imagines that DJ will have done, just like he did, and like a lot of men do;  “But Sioned knows that you are doing your best,” he assures DJ,

who replies that trying is not enough, and that is why he has to do his best to make sure this brunch succeeds –at least he will feel that he is doing something.

"How will that help Sioned?"

“How will that help Sioned?” Garry wants to know, and learns that they are skint, as Deri Fawr needed more work than they thought, and it takes a business time to get on its feet.

"We really need this extra money"

“We really need this extra money – at least it’s one less thing for Sioned to worry about.”

Garry shows his more caring side

Garry uncharacteristically relents, and tells DJ to keep the chicken on the menu – but not at weekends.

He adds, “There’s a job going downstairs, you know – and as you’re such an expert at cooking chicken . . .”   DJ reminds him that he did not seem too impressed earlier,

"Mostly night shifts – but let me know"

but Garry continues, “It would be mostly night shifts, but let me know.”   DJ thanks him.

The bar stools are now in use

Mathew hopes that Tesni will be happy with everything they have done with the bar;  “Turn up the music – it’s party time!”

Cai arrives with multiple bottles

Cai comes in through the back gate with several bottles in a box, and is surprised they have started already.

Rhys enquires if all those bottles are for Cai himself, and is told that they are for everyone.

"I won't be staying"

Cai suggests that they have some Tom Jones songs, but adds that he will not be staying.   Rhys realises that he has not got any mocktails,

"Don't you flirt with Tesni, because she and Rhys are . . ."

and Mathew warns Cai not to flirt with Tesni, because she and Reese are . . .   Rhys stops him there.

“I’ve just realised,” Mathew begins, “I was with Tes and Rhys was with Ffion,” but Rhys tells him to shut up, and recommends to Cai his wicked mango passion fruit and vodka cocktail.

"I didn't want all those bottles at Y Felin"

Cai makes it clear that he is not staying;  “I didn’t want all those bottles at Y Felin, so I thought it would be something for the cause,” he tells them,

"I don't mind missing out on a head like a bucket"

“I don’t mind missing out – I don’t mind missing out on a head like a bucket in the morning!”

Cai leaves them

He walks out of the back gate,

"Think he'll stick to it?"

and Rhys is doubtful whether he will stick to his intentions, but Mathew says that Cai likes to enjoy himself too much.

"Have you heard from Cai?"

Jinx asks if Ffion has heard from Cai, and is told that she has not;

"At least he stayed away from school"

“But he did the sensible thing and stayed away from school,” she answers.   Jinx would not be surprised if he had gone to drown his sorrows again.

Cai is granted admittance

Then the buzzer sounds and Cai is at the door.

"I hope he's not drunk again"

She lets him in and Jinx hopes that he is not drunk again;  it turns out that he is in repentant mood.

"Jinx, I'm sorry for threatening you"

“Listen, Jinx, I’m sorry for threatening you – the way I behaved . . .”

"You've got a lot of things to work through"

Jinx appreciates that he obviously has a lot of things to work through, and although Cai does not want a lecture, he goes on, “I’m no expert . . .”

"No, you're not – you just make pizzas!"

Cai agrees that he is not, but merely makes pizzas.

"Surprising how deep we can bury things"

Undeterred, Jinx continues, “I’ve been on a course, and it’s surprising how deep that we can bury things.”

"Stick with your ham and pineapple!"

He is told to stick with his ham and pineapple;  Cai has decided that he is not going to seek help, but rather is going to sort himself out.

"It didn't work with me"

Ffion reminds him that it did not work for her;  “Denial and insisting that everything was great?   You need help, Cai!”

"Why does everyone think they know what's best for me?"

“Why does everyone think they know what’s best for me?” he growls,

"There's so much going on in your head"

and she points out that he has so much going on in his head that he cannot work through them all – and she knows that from experience.

"I'll see how it goes"

Cai maintains that everyone is different, and he will see how it goes;“If I don’t manage to sort myself out,

"Perhaps I'll get some help"

“perhaps – perhaps, I’ll get some help – but for now I’m going to do this my way,

"Without you two preaching!"

“without you two preaching!   It would be nice if you could show some faith in me.”

"Do you want to stay for some dinner?"

Ffion simply asks if he wants to stay for some dinner, and he refuses,

"I need time on my own"

insisting that he needs some time on his own – and that he knows best.

"Will he stick to his word?"

When he walks out of the door, Jinx wonders if he will stick to his word, Ffion does not know,

"I have to give him a chance"

but maintains that she has to give him a chance.

"You said you couldn't carry on like this"

“Ffion, you said last night you couldn’t carry on like this.   It’s not a matter of him drinking too much – he needs professional help,”

"I can't force him"

but she argues that she cannot force him to see a counsellor.

“You tried to trick him into doing so,” Jinx reminds her, but she says that was not fair;

"What he needs is a bit of support"

she maintains that what he needs is a bit of support without their judging him.

"Do you really want this man in your life?"

“Do you really want this sort of man in your life?   He’s aggressive – if I wasn’t here last night, he could have hurt you!” Jinx stresses, but she will not accept this.

"He needs to do this is own way"

She says that he needs space, and she knows that he needs to do this his own way.

"I'm going give him a chance" — yet another one

She will not take any notice of Jinx’s fears for her safety, but is going to give Cai a chance, whether he likes it or not.

"Don't say I didn't warn you"

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” Jinx tells her, as he leaves.
