Kath has blood on her hand . . .

Kath has blood on her hand, which came from her face,

. .  and Mark is looking worried

while Mark is looking very concerned;  “What’s happened to you?” his mother demands, and he wants to see her injury,

"You stay where you are!"

but she tells him to stay where he is.

"I happened to be in the area"

At Penrhewl, Sioned wants to know what Non is doing there;  “I heard about DJ’s accident and I happened to be in the area, so I decided to call in,” Non replies.

"Are you all right, DJ?"

She asks DJ if he is all right;  he says, “I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

"I'm here to look after him"

Sioned assures her that he is getting better and of course she is there to look after him.

Non is glad to hear this and is sorry to have disturbed them;

"I'd better leave you to celebrate"

“I’d better leave you to celebrate,” she says, “You have so much to look forward to.”

The gift is barely visible on the table

She has bought them a gift, which she leaves on the table as she goes.

Guto looks depressed

In the café, Guto is sitting glumly at a table.   Kelly points out that he has not drunk his tea.

"That's what happens if you don't drink it"

He remarks that it is cold, and she explains, “That’s what happens if you don’t drink it – would you like a fresh one, on the house?”

"No, I don't"

He refuses this offer,

"Charming!"

and Kelly mutters, “Charming!”

"A can of coke, please, Kelly"

Tesni comes in for a can of coke, and Kelly wonders if Guto would like one as well.

"So this is where you're hiding"

“So this is where you’re hiding,” says Tesni, “Aled and I fancy a walk, if you want to join us.”   Guto refuses,

"Are you jealous?"

and she wonders, “Are you jealous that I’m spending time with him?”

"Don't be ridiculous!"

“Don’t be ridiculous!” he snarls, so she wants to know if he is ashamed of Aled or something, stressing that he is family.   “Yeah, as Mam keeps saying!” he moans.

"No-one's going to find out for ages"

Tesni is naïvely confident, “No-one’s going to find out for ages that he’s our cousin.”

"Why don't you give it to Aled?"

Guto does not want a coke and suggests that she should give it to Aled.

"Are you sure you're happy with the ring?"

At Penrhewl, DJ asks Sioned if she is happy with her ring, but her mind is elsewhere;

"Why did she turn up today?"

“Non remembered that you liked those biscuits – they’re your favourites,” she says, “Why did she turn up today?   She hasn’t been here for two years!   Have you been in contact with her?”

DJ flatly denies this, admitting that he was as shocked as was Sioned.

"Non doesn't mean anything to me any more"

“Non doesn’t mean anything to me any more – please don’t let her put a dampener on our celebrations – please, Sioned!   Non is in the past – I don’t have any feelings for her at all, and anyway, she could never compete with you!

"There's no point wasting time with her"

“Come on, there’s no point wasting time talking about her.   Before I call your mother, I want to double-check you’re happy with that ring.   You do you know you’re not the first one to wear it?”

"As long as I'm the last one to wear it"

Sioned loves the fact that he has given her his mother’s ring, which makes it very special;  “As long as I’m the last one to wear it,” she adds.

DJ shouts upstairs, “All right, Eileen – you can come down now!”

"Mam already knew?"

and Sioned realises that her mother already knew.

"Well?"

“Well?” says Eileen, and Sioned displays the ring.   “I’m so happy for you both – and I hope Non didn’t spoil your moment.

"What did Non want?"

“I was shocked to see her in the yard – what did she want?”

"We're not going to talk about her"

Sioned is adamant they are not going to talk about her now, insisting, “We’ve got some celebrating to do.”

Kath examines her injury

Kath has put a plaster on her injury and complains that this is not like Mark;

"Crikey – to hit your own mother!"

“I know you’ve got a temper – but crikey – to hit your own mother!”

"I didn't try to hit you – you moved!"

He maintains that it was an accident;  “I didn’t try to hit you – you moved!”   His mother wonders what Dyff would have said, but Mark warns her not to bring his father into this.

Non returns to the house

Then Non returns to the house and Kath tells her, “I don’t know what’s wrong with him.”

Non looks anxious

When she sees Non looking at the plaster on her face,

"I walked into a cupboard door"

she says that she walked into a cupboard door, describing herself as clumsy.   Non looks worried.

Ffion finds something troubling in the Western Post

Ffion comes out of the shop, apparently engrossed in the Western Post;

Rhys calls to her

Rhys asks if she is OK, but she hurries away without acknowledging him.

Kelly happens to see this

Kelly witnesses this.

"I've got more scars than Ken Owens"

“Perhaps you should let the doctor look at that,” advises Non, but Kath will take no notice, insisting that she has more scars than Ken Owens.   “Are you sure you walked into a cupboard door?” Non goes on, and Kath explains that these things happen when you get older.

"Mark didn't show you much sympathy'

“Mark didn’t show you much sympathy,” Non adds.

“Well, there’s no telling what he’s like these days,” is Kath’s tart reply.

"Me being here hasn't helped matters"

Non is quite sure that her arrival has not made things any easier;  she does not want them to fall out because of her, and thinks that he may never forgive her.

"You just have to give him time"

Kath reassures her that he will, given time,

"He's had two years – how much longer does he want?"

but Non reminds her, “He has had two years – how much longer does he want?   He seems even more resentful.”

Kath asks how it went up at Penrhewl;  “DJ must have been happy to see you.”   Non admits that going there was a mistake, as they have just got engaged, which comes as a surprise to Kath.

"I'm too late, Kath!"

“I’m too late – I’ve lost him!” Non whines.

The newspaper report . . .

At Cysgod y Glyn, Ffion is looking at the report in the newspaper of her court case,

. . . and Ffion's reaction to it

which gives details of her being a deputy headteacher.   The buzzer sounds,

She is in two minds about letting him in

and when she finds that it is Rhys, she is not keen to let him in.   He is insistent that they have to talk, so she reluctantly admits him.

"What do you want?"

“What do you want?” she says, and he argues they cannot avoid each other for ever;

"I don't want you to be upset"

he does not want her to be upset about what happened between them.   She points out that is not what has upset her,

Ffion directs him to the Western Post

and shows him the report in the Western Post.

"I deserve it, don't I?"

“I deserve it, don’t I?” she groans, “Everyone knowing how stupid I was!”   Rhys points out that she was ill, but she does not regard that as an excuse for putting people’s lives in danger.

"You didn't realise what you were doing"

“You didn’t realise what you were doing,” he tells her, but she tells him the article in the paper just brings it all up again.

"People will see what a mess I am!"

She predicts that people will see what a mess and she is and they will all gossip about her.

"Is Gaynor giving you a hard time?"

Rhys asks if Gaynor is giving her a hard time, and Ffion replies that Gaynor has been really supportive, and so have the governors.

"It's everyone else I'm worried about"

“It’s everyone else that I’m worried about – the parents and pupils, and local people,” she wails, but he recommends her to ignore them.

"If you ever need a taxi anywhere"

“Remember I’m available if you ever need a taxi anywhere,” he adds, but she grumbles that she does not want him feeling sorry for her again.   “There’s nothing to stop us being friends,” he insists.

"Luned wouldn't be too happy about that"

Ffion does not consider that Luned would be too happy about that;  he advises her not to worry about Luned and repeats, “I’m here if you want anything, all right?”

"Thanks for not telling her about the kiss"

Rhys is grateful to her for not telling Luned about the kiss, and Ffion has more important things on her mind than playing silly games.

Now she wants some space, and Rhys takes the hint, reminding her again that he is there for her as he leaves.

"I think we should get married quickly"

At Penrhewl, DJ makes the suggestion that they should get married quickly,

"And what does 'quickly' mean?"

and Sioned wants to know exactly what ‘quickly’ means.   “Well, is two months long enough for you?” he enquires.

Eileen is sure that is much too soon

Eileen does not know anyone who has organised a wedding in such a short space of time;  she points out that they have a lot of friends and family to invite,

"I'd be happy if it was just you and me"

but DJ would be quite happy if it was just Sioned and him.

“I can’t wait to for you to be my wife!” he exclaims, “We’ll get married as soon as possible, then.”

"I can'e see any reason why not"

Sioned feels exactly the same, so cannot see any reason why not.   Eileen comments that they appear to be putting the cart before the horse here,

Eileen does not look very happy about this

and DJ admits that he had been thinking not of a horse and cart, but rather a tractor and transport box.

"I wish I had come back to Cwmderi sooner"

Kath has shown some photos to Non, which makes her wish that she had come back to Cwmderi sooner, but she felt guilty about what happened.

"You said you loved DJ"

Kath reminds her that she said she loved DJ;

"He's far more serious about Sioned than me"

“But he’s engaged – he’s far more serious about Sioned than me,” Non acknowledges, “I didn’t realise how serious they were.”

“He’s picked you over Sioned before,” Kath remarks, and Non wonders why she is so keen to see them together.

"You should be doing something about it"

“If you think that you and DJ could be happy together, you should be doing something about it,” Kath encourages her, “It’s never too late – if you can’t tell him how you feel, well, we’ll have to find a way to get DJ to fall in love with you again.

“If you spent more time with him as ‘friends’, those old feelings might come back,” she continues;

Non is not sure about this

Non is not sure about this,

"A card and some flowers, perhaps"

but Kath goes on, “Go up there again, with a card and some flowers, perhaps.   See how it goes.”

Ffion is back from her run . . .

Ffion is just coming back from her run, and as she approaches the door of Cysgod y Glyn

. . . when she notices an inert figure on the bench

she notices Guto slumped on the bench opposite.

She shouts to wake him up . . .

She wakes him up and notices a small plastic bag,

. . . and sees a small bag he has dropped

containing some sort of herbal material, on the ground by his feet.

"We need to order more dog food, Mam"

Sioned reports that they need to order more dog food, but DJ is speaking on the phone to Dai and Diane, trying to persuade them that the engagement is a good idea.

"Have you discussed Non?"

Eileen already has doubts about this wedding;  “Do you have to rush things?   Have you discussed Non?”

"DJ has nothing to do with her any more"

Sioned makes it quite clear that DJ has nothing to do with Non any more,

"I want to know why she's back here"

but her mother recalls that she was more important to him at one point, and wonders why she is back here.   Sioned does not know the answer to that,

"Non isn't a threat to our relationship"

but points out, “Everyone has exes – Non isn’t a threat to our relationship.”

Eileen is anxious to make sure, as she does not want her daughter to get hurt;  “DJ would never hurt me!” Sioned confidently replies, and Eileen realises she will have to find a dress for the wedding,

Eileen will have to find a dress

asking Sioned to fetch the iPad, so they can look at what is available.

"It wasn't cans I saw on the ground"

Ffion has taken Guto up to the flat and points out there is nothing worse than an afternoon ‘session’.   “But it wasn’t cans I saw on the ground,” she adds, “I put on a lot of weight in college, smoking that.   How long have you been doing it?”

"It's not a big deal"

He casually replies that it has just been a couple of months;  “It’s not a big deal,” but Ffion is adamant that it could be if he uses it all the time.   She warns him that there are serious side-effects for some people.

Guto maintains that alcohol is worse;  “At least I don’t get hangovers!” he argues.

"I know I'm not a good example to you"

She is not going to lecture him, and knows that she is not an good example to him, but she knows what it is like to turn to drugs when she cannot talk about something.

“Trust me – you don’t want to end up where I did,” she cautions him.   He protests that he is not an addict, but she warns there are serious side-effects for some people.

Guto is haunted by visions of Mathew

Ffion is sure that she will understand better than he thinks, so he says finds it impossible to switch off – he cannot sleep – when he sleeps, he keeps seeing the same thing – Mathew with his acid burns.

"He was screaming with pain"

“He was screaming with the pain, and his skin was peeling off.”   In the end Guto tried to stop himself from sleeping

"You must seek help, Guto"

Ffion can see that what he saw was horrendous and that he has suffered traum; drugs are just a temporary solution, and she urges him that he has to seek help – to talk to someone about it, who can help him deal with it in a healthy way.

"I don't want therapy"

He insists that he does not want therapy,

"Well, just talk to friends, then"

and she suggests that he talks to friends, "With me, if you like – it's so important it is to talk."

"I will, when it's the right time"

He agrees that when it is the right time, he will do so,

"You know – you're pretty cool"

and as he leaves thanks her for listening;  “You’re pretty cool.”

Ffion is amused

This makes Ffion smile.

As he leaves Cysgod y Glyn . . .

As he leaves the house,

. . . Kelly sees him

he is seen by Kelly, who is walking nearby.

"How did it go at Penrhewl?"

Non is back at Maes-y-Deri, and Kath is keen to hear how it went at Penrhewl.

"I just left them on the doorstep"

Non admits that she chickened out at the last moment, leaving the card and the flowers outside the door, which Kath finds disappointing.

"There's my other problem"

Then Non asks for some help with her other problem – her relationship with Mark.   She is missing her big brother.

Kath cannot offer much hope

but Kath advises she should not call him that, and is not optimistic.   “No, perhaps I should go back to Brecon for a while, to give him some space” Non concedes,

"We've got a spare room here, you know"

but is told, "If you do that, he'll think you don't care.   Stay here tonight – we've got a spare room.   Mark will come home at some point.   Go on up, you know where everything is.   Perhaps if he's in a good mood, we can move forward a little.”

In comes Mark . . .

As she sits down, the front door opens and Mark comes in, carrying four cans of Carlsberg.

. . . with what his mother calls 'a peace offering'

“This is your way of apologising, is it?” his mother demands, and he wants to know if Bethan has gone.

"She's going to be living here"

When he is informed that ‘Non’ will be staying there tonight, he maintain that the only sensible thing she can do is to disappear from there.

"I'm not staying under the same roof as her!"

he is determined that he is not staying under the same roof as her,

Off he goes, taking his Carlsberg with him

turns round and walks out again.

DJ has found what was left on the doorstep

DJ has found the card and flowers on the doorstep and brings them in;

"Where did those flowers come from?"

he opens the envelope, addressed to him, and as he is looking at the card, Eileen comes in, so he hides it.   “Oh, where did those flowers come from?” she asks,

"I ordered them for Sioned"

and he lies that he ordered them for Sioned, as he wants everything to be perfect today.

"Sioned – and I – are so lucky to have you"

His prospective mother-in-law regards him as being very caring;  “Sioned  – and I – are very lucky.”   He, however, looks somewhat uneasy.
