Non prepares breakfast

Non is laying the table for breakfast;

"You're up early, Non"

Kath remarks that she is up early.

"Does Mark still drown his eggs in tomato sauce?"

“Does Mark still drown his eggs in tomato sauce,” Non asks, but is informed that Mark is not there.

"I've got no idea where he is"

Non wants to know where he is, and Kath has no idea.

“Aren’t you worried?” wonders Non, but she is told that Mark often does that,

"It may be a mid-life crisis thing"

and Kath thinks that it may be a midlife crisis thing.   She does not follow up Non’s suggestion that she goes to look for him,

Non keeps his breakfast warm

while Non keeps his breakfast warm in the oven.

"I'm not sure you're allowed to stay here"

We see that Mark has spent the night in the chippy flat.   Colin is rather concerned, “I’m not sure if you’re allowed to stay here, with this Covid thing,” he tells Mark,

"I've just used your razor"

who has just used Colin’s expensive razor.

"Super quadruple-bladed, anti-friction!"

Thats super quadruple-bladed, anti-friction – cost a fortune! Colin exclaims.

“That was the best shave I’ve had for ages,” Mark comments.   Colin complains that is all the thanks he gets for providing bed and breakfast.

"No, Col – sofa and breakfast!"

He is corrected by Mark;  “Sofa and breakfast!”

"Mam thinks more of Bethan than me"

He has not had any communications from his mother yet;  “It’s obvious that Bethan or Non means more to her than I do,” he moans, then instructs Colin to get on with the breakfast.

"Mam's left a packed lunch for you"

At number 10, Tesni tells Aled that her mother has left a packed lunch for him;

"I'm so glad you let me move in"

he is very grateful that they have let him move in with them, and Tesni is pleased to have him there.   “It’s so nice living close to Tyler,” he says.

Tesni thinks that it is nice that Tyler worries about him;

"Tyler's taken the afternoon off tomorrow"

Aled adds, “And he’s taken the afternoon off tomorrow, so we can spend some time together.”   He receives a message from his father,

"He wants me to clean the flipping kitchen!"

and grumbles, “He wants me to clean the flipping kitchen!”

"You're lucky to have a job"

Tesni considers him lucky to have a job,

He is confident Dylan can conjure up another job

and he maintains that Dylan is sure to be able to find her a job too.

"I want my old job back"

She, however, is intent on getting her old job back, explaining that she enjoys working with Lisa.

"Enjoy the job – or Lisa's company?"

Aled queries whether she actually enjoys the job or Lisa’s company;

"Just go and apologise to her"

“Just go and apologise to her – I’m sure she misses you as well.”   Aled leaves for work, and suspects that Lisa is playing hard to get, but Tesni does not believe that.

"The Glyndwr Hotel has a special offer"

DJ has found that the Glyndwr Hotel is available, and are giving local couples a discount, but Eileen suggests that they could save money and have a marquee at the farm.

Sioned has modest aspirations

Sioned wants a small service at Bethania, followed by a reception at the Deri.

"But Penrhewl means so much to you"

“But Penrhewl means so much to you – it would be lovely if you got married here,” Eileen insists, but Sioned wants the wedding to be different,

"I married Ed at Penrhewl!"

pointing out that she and Ed were married at Penrhewl.

"I'll call in at the Deri"

DJ is going out, but will call at the Deri on his way back to arrange something;

He is going to use Kath's broadcasting skills

he is meeting Kath at the shop, and predicts, “Everyone will know by tonight about the engagement.”

"I'm sorry if I raised your hopes"

Kath is ready to leave Maes-y-Deri, and is sorry if she raised Non’s hopes.  She explains that what she told Mark was not really a lie;  “I was just worried you would leave if you knew Mark was not coming back.”

"I enjoyed our Christmas together"

Non stresses that she did not only come back to Cwmderi because of Mark;  “I enjoyed our Christmas together,” she tells Kath, “We’re friends, aren’t we?”   Kath has to leave for work, because Colin wants her to do a stocktake today, and invites Non to come with her.

Non has come to the conclusion that the card she sent did not work, and so she is going to give up.

"I've got a feeling in my water""

However Kath assures her, “I’ve got a feeling in my water!” but Non dismisses this as another attempt to cheer her up, and Kath goes off alone.

Colin wants to get rid of his lodger

Mark is sitting on the sofa in the chip shop flat and Colin is worrying about Kath.

"Dad went just like that – in the blink of an eye"

“Dad went just like that – in the blink of an eye – I didn’t even get the chance to make things right between us,” he recalls, “And that leaves a sour note.”

"You sound as if Mam is going to kick the bucket"

“You sound as if Mam is going to kick the bucket at any minute!” says Mark, and Colin asks whether the past year has taught him anything.   He emphasises that Mark cannot stay in the flat again tonight.

"Please, Col, just until I sort something out!"

“Please, Col,” he whines, “Just until I sort something out!”

"No way, José!"

Colin makes it very clear;  “No way, José!”

Non is at the cash machine

As a car drives down the High Street, DJ comes out of the Deri and waves to Non,

DJ feels a bit doubtful

then thinks that he should not have done so.

"I hope you're not trying to avoid me"

“I hope you’re not trying to avoid me,” she scolds him.

"I've just booked the Deri for the wedding reception"

He informs her that he has just booked the Deri for the wedding, which she regards as very exciting.

"CanI buy you a cup of tea?"

“Did you get the card and flowers?” she asks, “Can I buy you a cup of tea?”

"Eileen's around here somewhere"

He is rather nervous, as Eileen is around the village somewhere, but she argues, “There’s nothing wrong with two friends having a cuppa, is there?”   They head towards the café.

"Where's your partner in crime, then?"

Tesni has gone to see Lisa;  “I was wondering how long this is going on?” she says, and Lisa wonders where her partner in crime is.   “Working at Tapas,” is the reply.

"Isn't he lucky to have a job?"

“Isn’t he lucky to have a job?” teases Lisa,

Apparently, Tesni is making the place untidy

“Sit down, please – you’re making the place look untidy.   We have got a lot to discuss – in particular the allegation made by you and Aled.”

DJ and Non appear to be getting on

Non is laughing with DJ in the café;

"Sioned has changed a lot"

he says that Sioned has changed a lot since Non was there last,

"You're a good influence on her"

and she in turn maintains that he is a good influence on Sioned.

"Oh, you're back, then"

Colin walks into the café, surprised to see that Non is back;  “Nothing worse than family falling out, is there?” he says, then congratulates DJ.

“Mind you, it came as a shock to us all,” he adds,

"Trying to make an honest man out of him!"

“Good luck to Sioned, I say – trying to make an honest man out of him!”

"Right, I think I'd better go"

DJ thinks that he had better go, rather than having another cup.

"You're worried about people seeing us together"

Non suspects he is worried about what people will say, seeing them together;  “You’ve always been a terrible liar – we’ve got nothing to hide – just old friends meeting up.   From what you’ve said, you and Sioned are solid, so there’s no reason for her to be jealous.”

He is wary of spending time with Non

However, DJ does not think it is a good idea for them to spend a lot of time together, and gets up to leave.

"I'm in a relationship too"

“You do know that I’m in a relationship, too,” Non tells him, “It’s early days – no fairy lights and pick-and-mix yet, but we’ve agreed to take things slowly.”

"Do I know the lucky bloke?"

DJ asks if he knows the lucky bloke, but is told, “His name’s Len, from Brecon – you see there’s no reason why we can’t spend time together.

"You're with Sioned, and I'm with Len"

You’re with Sioned and I’m with Len.   See you soon!”

Non leaves the café

and off she goes.   DJ looks rather uneasy.

"It's nice you've got something to look forward to you"

In the shop, Kath tells Eileen, “It’s nice you’ve got something to look forward to,” and Eileen is sure that things will get better between her and Mark.

"I still can't believe he gave you that injury"

“I still can’t believe he gave you that injury,” Eileen goes on, and is warned not to tell anyone about it.   “Has he done anything like this to you before?”

"It's only a one-off, Eileen"

Kath answers that it is a one off, but Eileen insists, “You don’t have to put on an act with me – nothing hurts more than when your own child doesn’t respect you.”

"You can't just run away, can you?"

“But you can’t just run away, can you?” is Kath’s response;  Eileen asks just why she does not do that.   “Well, for a start, Non’s staying with us,” she is told.

"A break abroad in the sun will do you good"

Eileen points out that she will manage fine without Kath for a week or two;  “A break abroad in the sun will do you world of good – I might come with you,” Eileen remarks, and Kath wants to know when they will be going.   “Go home and do a bit of research.”

Kath grabs her coat in great haste

Kath cannot get out of the place quickly enough, telling Eileen that she is the best boss in the world.

"That can wait, Colin"

Colin is surprised to see Kath leaving and complains, “We haven’t started that stocktake yet,” but Eileen replies that it can wait.   They are thinking about going on holiday together,

"Where's my invitation, then?"

so he asks where his invitation is.

"Do you fancy sharing a twin room with two women?"

“Do you fancy sharing a twin room with two women?” enquires Eileen.

"DJ and Non seemed to be getting on well in the café"

He has noticed that DJ and Non seemed to be getting on well in the café, and comments that it is nice they can still be friends   Eileen is becoming suspicious.

Tesni is suitably repentant

Tesni tells Lisa that she is really sorry for what she said;  “I was just upset – you sacked me – rejected me!”

"You won't be proceeding with the allegation, then?"

Lisa assumes that as she is apologising, she will not be proceeding with the allegation, and Tesni confirms this.

“Why did you try to kiss me?” Lisa wants to know, “I thought you were straight.”

"I'm eager to experiment"

Tesni maintains that she is eager to experiment, arguing that there is nothing wrong with that.   “But not with me!” Lisa clearly states,

"I never flirt with my staff"

“I never flirt with my staff.”

"But I'm not staff any more!"

Tesni stresses that she is not staff any more.

"The Deri is available, Sioned"

DJ relaxes at Penrhewl;  Sioned comes in and he informs her that the Deri is available for the wedding reception.   He also says that he saw Mathew;  “He took it as a great compliment when I asked him to be best man.”

"I heard you were in the café"

Eileen proceeds to stir things;  “You must have had a busy morning, because I heard you were in the café.”

"I had a cup of tea with Non"

He admits that he had a cup of tea with Non, and Eileen wonders whether that was wise.

"She insisted on buying me a cup"

“I just bumped into her, and she insisted on buying me a cup,” he replies,

"Perhaps you should have refused"

and Eileen is of the opinion that perhaps he should have refused.   “I thought it would be a good chance to explain the situation to her –

"I've fallen in love with the perfect girl!"

that I had fallen head over heels in love with the perfect girl!” he continues,

Sioned takes this with a pinch of salt

but Sioned does not appear convinced by this.

Eileen hopes that Non accepted that explanation, assuring them, “I’m only thinking of you two.”

She expresses her trust in DJ

Sioned assures DJ that he can do what he wants, as she trusts him implicitly;  he confirms that he feels exactly the same about her.   Nevertheless, Eileen still looks doubtful.

"There's no point trying to hide, Mark"

Non comes into the Deri to find Mark reading the paper;  “There’s no point trying to hide,” she tells him, “I wish we could move on.”

"I gave you a kidney – that must mean something"

He is convinced that is never going to happen.   “I gave you a kidney – that must mean something,” she goes on, but he does not consider that makes up for all the deceit.

"I almost went to pieces because of you!"

“I almost went to pieces because of you,” he grumbles, but she pleads that she misses him.   His curt response is to tell her, “Go home!”

"Kath said I can stay as long as I want"

She says that Kath told her she can stay for as long as she wants, and this does not go down well with Mark;

"I'm coming home tonight – you'll have to go!"

“Has she now?   Well, I’m coming home tonight, so you’ll have to go back to Brecon!”

Non whines piteously, “Please, Mark, I’m sorry about everything – I’m not leaving until we sort this out.”

Mark puts on his coat

In that case, he comes to the conclusion that he will have to leave, as she begs him to talk to her, but he walks out.

Kath is informed that Eileen is not coming

Kath is on the phone and has had some bad news from Eileen – “I’ve already sorted it out,” she says, but appreciates that Huwi has to come first.

"I'll be going on my own, anyway"

“No, don’t you worry – I’ll be going on my own, anyway.”

"A lot of people would think I'm a fool"

Lisa continues that Tesni is a ‘stunning’ girl;  “A lot of people would think I’m a fool for turning you down – but I’m not interested.”

"So you weren't flirting with me"

Tesni realises that Lisa was not really flirting with her these last few weeks.   “I’m sorry if you think that I was,” Lisa adds, “Why don’t we forget about this?

"Come back to work for me"

“Come back to work for me – your job’s still there if you want it.”

"You just feel sorry for me"

Tesni believes that Lisa is only doing this because she feels sorry for her, but is told that she is short-staffed.

"I don't like the idea of being skint!"

“Right, well, I accept,” Tesni says, “I don’t like the idea of being skint!”   She is asked if she can start tomorrow, which Tesni is pleased to do.

"No more misunderstandings, then"

It is stipulated that there must be no more misunderstandings.

"Go home and don't come back!"

Mark and Non arrive back at Maes-y-Deri, with Mark instructing her to go home and not to come back.   She wants to know what she can do to make things right,

"This says Mam's gone away"

then he finds a note on the table, to say that his mother has gone away.

"It will be nice to have the place to myself!"

“What I want you to do is leave!” he exclaims, “I’ll pay for your taxi if I have to!   It will be nice to have the place to myself, without you two around.

"Are you going to book a taxi, or do I have to?"

“Are you going to book a taxi, or do I have to?”

"I can't go – I'm frightened!"

Non whines, “I can’t go – I’m frightened of what will happen!   I’m not looking for sympathy – my boyfriend, Len – he’s much older than me,

"Len's got problems!"

“and he’s got problems.”

"And that's when he turns nasty"

She sits down, continuing, “He gets these bouts of depression and drinks heavily to deal with it – and that’s when he turns nasty.   I tried to persuade him to get help, but he’s too ashamed.

"I had to get away"

“He’s having a bad bout at the moment and I had to get away.”

"Why didn't you say anything earlier?"

Mark wonders why she did not say anything earlier;

“I didn’t want you to feel sorry for me,” she whimpers,

"Is it all right if I stay?"

“Is it all right if I stay?   I’ll keep out of your way.”

"I don't want anyone getting hurt"

This changes Mark’s mind and he agrees she can stay, “For a while – I don’t want to be responsible for anyone getting hurt.”

Is that a smile of satisfaction?

She appears to smile.
