"I thought that Spanish lessons were cancelled"

Outside the café, Kelly is looking at a flyer that Izzy has given her;  “I thought that Spanish lessons were cancelled,” she says, 

"We have another tutor – Non"

but Izzy informs her that they have another tutor now – Non.   “Oh, blast from the past – I didn’t know she spoke the lingo,” Kelly replies.   

Nor did Izzy, but it is a great relief for her;  

"Mam and I have had a huge bust-up!"

“Mam and I have had a huge bust-up,” she goes on, but does not elaborate why.   As Kelly goes back into the café, Hywel appears.   

"What's going on with Mam is none of your business"

“Before you start, what’s going on with Mam is none of your business,” Izzy tells him.

"That's not why I want to talk to you"

He thinks otherwise, but that is not why he wants to talk to her;  “Yr Antur have received a serious complaint against you – that you’ve been stealing money.”   Izzy wonders who would make a complaint like that, and he does not know;  

"It was an anonymous tip-off"

“It was anonymous, but you can’t come back to work until an investigation has been carried out.”

"They'r bound find out I was stealing money"

Izzy is really worried now;  “They’re bound to find out that I was stealing money before!” she rages, and he asks what she thought would happen – she has only herself to blame.   

She hurries back to the sanctuary of the flat

She hurries across the road and into the alley, 

"Hey, Izzy!"

completely ignoring Colin, who calls after her.

"I'll see you in the meeting, then"

Jason gets out of the APD van, and Sara sees him;  she shouts, “I’ll see you in the meeting, then,” and he replies that he is looking forward to it.   

"The trick is not to argue too much"

He advises that the trick with a mediator is not to argue too much, 

"It depends what you say, Jason"

and she snarls, “It depends what you say, Jason!”

“Good – see you there, then,” he tells her, 

"I'm leaving now, Mathew, don't work too hard"

then goes to advise Mathew that he is leaving;  he tells him not to work too hard.   

"You haven't finished yet"

Mathew complains that Jason has not finished yet, but Jason reminds him, “I have the appointment with the mediator and Sara to sort my divorce out.   I’ve taken the day off – it’s in the system – you can check.”

Mathew looks puzzled, 

"Even I can remember he said that"

but even Eifion says he can remember that;  “And Jason isn’t just a hireling anyway.”   Mathew reminds him that he is and instructs  him to get on with his work.

Mathew has bad news from Izzy 

Mathew’s phone rings and he finds that it is Izzy;  what she tells him comes as a shock.

"Rhys was hammered last night!"

At Hywel’s house, Sara is complaining about the mess;  “Isn’t Rhys up yet?     He was hammered last night – and talking rubbish!   

"I don't see why I should tidy up"

“I don’t see why I should tidy up – I’ll be late now!”   Dylan tells her not to, and to leave it for Rhys, or he will never learn.

"I can't leave the kitchen like this!"

“I can’t leave the kitchen like this!” she exclaims, then calms down and decides to leave it.   Dylan urges her not to get worked up, as she has nothing to worry about.   

"Jason has no chance!"

He is quite sure that Jason has no chance of getting full custody of Ifan.

"Why would they suspend you?"

“Mathew wants to know, “Why would they suspend you?” and she says that someone has made a complaint that she is helping herself to Yr Antur’s money.   He laughs, “That’s ridiculous!”

"Someone from the board went through the accounts"

“Someone from the board went through the accounts again – no smoke without fire, after the police questioned me the other day.”   

"You must contact a lawyer, Izzy"

Mathew cannot believe that she would steal from Yr Antur, and advises her to contact a lawyer to stop this before it goes too far.

"I have been stealing money from Yr Antur"

“You don’t understand – I have been stealing money from Yr Antur!” Izzy admits, “And now they’re investigating, they’re bound to find out.   

Mathew is lost for words

Mathew is speechless.

"The board were unanimous"

Hywel reports to Gaynor that he did his best, but the board was unanimous;  

"She'll lose her job over this"

she assumes that Izzy will lose her job and curses her for being so stupid.   There is a loud banging on the door, 

"Don't promise to get her out of this"

and Hywel warns, “If that’s her, don’t promise to get her out of this hole.”

"Do you know what's the matter?"

However, their visitor is Colin, who says, “I’ve just seen Izzy – she looked very upset.   I’ve tried phoning her, but she won’t answer.   Do you know what’s the matter?”

"She's been suspended from work"

Gaynor informs him that she has been suspended from work, and Colin thinks that the police must have discovered something.   

"There are inconsistencies in the accounts"

Hywel continues with the explanation, “There are inconsistencies in Yr Antur’s accounts,” 

"She's been pocketing money, Colin"

and Gaynor spells it out that she has been pocketing money.   

This news hits Colin hard

Colin is very upset about this.

"I was just borrowing money to begin with"

Izzy points out to Mathew, “I was just borrowing money to begin with, but when I realised that no-one was noticing, I started to change a few invoices here and there – so many parents were paying cash.   

"Then someone noticed"

“No-one noticed at the start – but then I overcharged the school in order to pocket the difference, and someone at Yr Antur noticed.”

Mathew imagines that was enough to make her stop, and she agrees that she did, for a little while;  

"I was short of money"

“But when Eifion and I came back from that holiday in Venice, I was short of money – I created one more fake invoice, but Hywel found out.”

"So you just carried on?"

Mathew is very surprised that he did not say anything, and realises that Izzy just carried on;  she agrees that she did, and her mother covered the cost.   

"Eifion quite liked it"

Eifion was also aware, but he did not really mind – in fact he quite liked it.

"Why didn't you say something to me?"

“Stealing was so easy,” she says, and when asked why she did not say anything to Mathew, replies, 

"I'm someone who can't help but steal"

“How?   ‘By the way, you’re seeing someone who can’t help but steal’?”

"It's a matter of trust, Izzy"

He maintains that it is a matter of trust, but she argues that he has been through enough and she did not want to hurt him;  “And you’ve been so busy with the business – 

"You don't think I stayed with you for your money"

“you don’t think I’ve stayed with you for your money, do you?”   

"I don't know what to think"

He does not know what to think, but she insists he did not have a penny when they started seeing each other;  

"I would never hurt you like that, Mathew"

she would never hurt him like that.

"They'll probably bring a case against her"

Hywel would not be surprised if the board brings a case against Izzy;  Colin fears that she might go to jail, but Hywel doubts that it will come to that, however there will be consequences.   

"Oh, Izzy, wthat have you done?"

“Oh, Izzy, what have you done?” Colin groans.

“She’s made things awkward for me, not to mention Gaynor,” Hywel moans, 

"What has Gaynor to do with this?"

and Colin wonders what Gaynor has to do with this.   

"I'm implicated as well"

She explains that Izzy committed fraud, faking invoices;  “I gave her money to help clear them, so I’m implicated in this as well.”   Colin rages that she should be concerned about Izzy, not herself, as that is what any normal mother would do.

“I must be an awful mother then – unlike you, the perfect father!” she exclaims.   

Hywel points out that there is no need for them to argue, 

"Don't stick your nose in, Hywel Llywelyn!"

but Colin turns on him, warning him not to stick his nose in.

Hywel reminds him, “She’s an adult – she knew what she was doing.”   

"I should be the one to judge, not you!"

Colin makes it very clear that he is her father, and he should be the one to judge, not Hywel.

"I know you're disappointed in me"

Izzy can see that Mathew is disappointed in her, 

"I don't understand why you did it"

but he does not understand why she did it.   She maintains that she could not help it;  

"I've always been bad with money"

“I’ve always been been bad with money – I spend too much, can’t save.”

"A lot of people are – but they don't steal!"

He answers that a lot of people are bad with money, but it does not mean that they steal, especially . . .

"Especially like me, who had everything on a plate?"

“Especially someone like me, you mean, who’s had everything on a plate?” she replies, 

"You're from a good family"

and he stresses that she is from a good family.   

"Did the bailiffs call at your house?"

Izzy demands, “Did the bailiffs call at your house when you were growing up?   Did you see men carrying stuff out of the house – including your stuff?   More than once, too!   

"You know how cruel children can be"

“And then the bullying started – nothing terrible, but you know how cruel children can be.   Especially to the headteacher’s daughter.   Mam did her best not to show anything, even at home, but I could hear her, crying herself to sleep.”

"It must have been awful"

Mathew can see that must have been awful, and asks what Colin was like;  “Dad went to pieces – he started to come home late – he was drinking and trying to hide it.   It was obvious to me – I don’t know about Lois – perhaps she was too young, or she may have chosen not to notice, 

"That's why we moved to Cwmderi"

“but things soon became too much for Mam, and that’s why we moved to Cwmderi.   Something like that never disappears – even if no-one else knows, it stays with you.   No matter how hard you try, you can’t get rid of it.”

"Who would make a complaint against Izzy?"

At Llwyncelyn, Colin cannot make an ounce of sense of the situation;  “Who on earth would make a complaint to Yr Antur about Izzy?”   

Gaynor can see that, whoever it was, they wanted to hurt her, and Hywel predicts that it is someone who knows her history.   

"Eifion – this might be revenge!"

“Eifion!” concludes Colin, “There’s such a thing as revenge porn – this might be a form of revenge.”

Gaynor believes he has a point

Gaynor follows this reasoning, “She finished with him to be with Mathew, his cousin.”   Colin guarantees that he is still jealous, but then his phone rings;  

"Right – I'm on my way, Eileen!"

he finds that it is Eileen, and apologises to her, promising that he will be back right away.   

"Give me a call if you hear anything"

He tells Gaynor, “Give me a call if you hear anything,” and leaves the house.

"I don't think he would do that"

Gaynor wonders if it was Eifion, but Hywel does not think that he would do such a thing.   

"Some kind of vendetta . . ."

“Colin’s got a point, hasn’t he?” she continues, “It feels like some kind of vendetta – it’s odd that the complaint has been made now, after she was questioned by the police, and after the business with the house.   

". . . revenge against us all"

“So if there is someone out there who wants revenge, they might want revenge against us all.”

"I don't know what to say"

Mathew does not know what to say, but Izzy does not want him to say anything;  she was merely trying to make him understand.   He says that it is a lot to take in, 

"I hate that you've found out like this"

and she hates the fact that he has found out like this.   

Then Eifion comes in, advising that he has been trying to contact Mathew.   

When Eifion comes in, she goes

Izzy walks out of the flat, 

"What's going on between you two?"

and Eifion wants to know what is going on between them.

"That Morris from Cwrtmynach . . ."

Then he adds, “That Morris from Cwrtmynach, who wants an extension, phoned again – he said if we don’t confirm, he will find someone else to do it.”   

"Why couldn't you tell him that?"

Mathew replies that of course they can do it, and wonders why Eifion could not tell him that.

“I don’t get paid to think, remember?” is Eifion’s reply.   Mathew will phone him later, but wants him to be sure that they are serious.   Then Eifion continue to pry, “Are you going to tell me what is the trouble?”   

"Izzy is in trouble"

He is told that Izzy is in trouble.

The first thing Jason does is put the kettle on"

Jason puts on the kettle 

"How did the meeting go?"

and Kelly asks him how the meeting with the mediator went;  

"A lot better than expected"

“A lot better than I expected,” he tells her, “Sara didn’t get the chance to take me to the cleaners, because there was a mediator there with us, and she was very fair.”

"Even when Sara said you'd broken in?"

“Even when Sara said you’d broken into her house?” Kelly enquires, 

"She didn't mention it, Kelly"

but apparently she did not mention that, even when Jason said he did not consider that house fit for his son.   Kelly is glad, but regards it as weird.

"Either Sara's decided not to say anything . . ."

Jason surmises that Sara has decided not to say anything, or . . .   

". . . or Dylan hasn't told her!"

“Dylan hasn’t told her!” Kelly interrupts.   

"And why would that be, then?"

Jason wonders why that could be, when they could have used the incident against him.   At least she is keeping schtum for now, but he realises that there is a long way to go yet.

"Be grateful you've won round one"

Kelly says that he should be grateful that he has won round one.

Sara is becoming more angry by the minute

Sara’s reaction to the meeting is very different;  she is flinging all the empty bottles and takeaway cartons into a black sack, and is in a furious temper.   

"It's like a pigsty – I've had enough!"

Dylan thought that she was going to let Rhys do that, but she snarls, “It’s like a pigsty – I’ve had enough!   You could have done this!   How can someone live like this?   I can’t!”

Is Dylan bashing his head on a brick wall?

She throws the sack on the floor and sits down on the sofa;  “Jason’s using the fact that we’re sharing a house against me,” she growls, 

"Jason said the situation isn't appropriate for Ifan"

“He said the situation isn’t appropriate for Ifan.   When are you going to sort it out, Dylan?”   

"Soon, Sara"

He says that it will be all done soon, but she goes on, 

"How many times have I heard that?"

“How many times have I heard that?   We need somewhere together as a family,” 

"I can't work miracles"

but he explains he cannot work miracles.

“Ifan means everything to me – you do understand that, don't you?   

"If Jason gets custody – I'll never forgive you!"

“And if I don’t get full custody of Ifan – I’ll never forgive you!   

"I won't want anything to do with you!"

“You can forget about us, because I won’t want anything to do with you!”

"It was you, wasn't it?"

On his way to the shop, Colin encounters Eifion;  “It was you, wasn’t it?” he demands, “You told Yr Antur about Izzy.”   

"Don't be ridiculous!"

Eifion tells him not to be ridiculous, and has only just heard about it from Mathew;  he stresses that this is nothing to do with him.

"Sorry I had to close the shop, Eileen"

Eileen is waiting outside the shop, and Colin apologises to her for closing, explained that he would not have done unless he had to.   

"There was a problem with a supplier"

He quickly manufactures an excuse that he had to sort out a problem with a supplier.

"You're turning the key the wrong way, Col"

He tries to open the door, but Eileen points out that he is turning the key the wrong way;  

"Just calm down"

she urges him to calm down.

"I think I should leave"

Izzy appears to have packed a bag, informing Mathew, “I think I should leave before you come to that decision yourself.   

"It's only a matter of time before people find out"

“It’s only a matter of time before people find out – and then the talking will start.”   

"You'll get through this"

He assures her that she has got through it before and will do so again.

"I ruined things this time, Math"

“The difference is that I ruined things this time – not Mam, not Dad, but me!” she answers.   Mathew knows that there is obviously a reason that she did what she did, adding that she is not a bad person, 

"I'm not going to turn my back on you, Izzy"

and that he is not going to turn his back on her.   He begs her not to leave.

"The jam has turned out lovely this year"

In the shop, Eileen arranges the jars of jam on the counter;  “The jam has turned out lovely this year,” she says, 

As Colin sort the cards . . .

as Colin is sorting through the greeting cards.

. . . he feels unsteady

Then he feels unsteady and leans on the shelf for support;  

Eileen is concerned about him

Eileen is concerned about him, but he maintains that he will be all right in a moment, explaining that it has happened before.   She is anxious that he should urgently see a doctor, and knows how dangerous it can be not to check it out.

Suddenly Colin collapses to the floor . . .

He suddenly collapses to the floor, dislodging some baskets on the way, 

. . . and Eileen is extremely anxious

and she is very upset.
