Something is happening with the salon – at last |
Dani approaches the boarded-up salon with a couple of ideas for the name of the new venture; Garry comes out of the café, with another coffee, and sees her.
"No – the other one!" |
Standing in the middle of the road, he recommends that she use the other name, but she likes them both.
"Why should I take your advice?" |
“Don’t take my advice, then,” he grumbles, and she asks why should she do.
"How long are you going to be like this? |
“How long are you going to be like this?” he demands,
She is not impressed |
and she simply laughs; “I know things are not going to change – you’ve made that perfectly clear – but can we try to get along?” he says, and heads towards the garage.
Dani goes across to number 7 . . . |
She crosses to number 7 and knocks on the door;
.. . where Iolo is cleaning |
Iolo is busy vacuuming,
He invites her in |
but lets her in and she asks his opinion of her mock-ups for the new business.
"Spring cleaning, are you?" |
He is noncommittal and she assumes that he is having a Spring clean;
"Garry wants me out" |
he replies, “I’m just getting the place ready – Garry wants me out – he’s given me a month’s notice! He wants to move in, and has started to move his stuff already.”
"I thought he was going to sell it without telling me" |
She is relieved, thinking for a moment that he was going to sell the house without telling her, then realises that was a rather insensitive thing to say.
"Have you found anywhere?" |
“Have you found somewhere?” she asks,
"I shall be staying at Y Felin for a while" |
and he says that he will be staying at Y Felin for a while. “Iol, I’m sorry he’s doing this to you,” she adds, but he points out that he is only a tenant.
"I am rather busy, Dani" |
He is rather busy, so she takes the hint and leaves the house.
"I hope Cassie hasn't forgotten" |
Sioned and her mother are at the Deri, and hope that Cassie has not forgotten that they were coming;
"Is DJ not with you?" |
then she appears, wondering why DJ is not with them.
"He'll be coming soon" |
She is told that he will be coming soon. Eileen would like to get started,
"Another five minutes won't matter, Mam" |
but Sioned tells her that another five minutes will not matter,
"I'll go and get you a cup of tea" |
so Cassie will get them a cup of tea.
Sioned has not yet decided on a dress, as there is so much choice, and she wants to be sure she gets the right one.
"I need somewhere to have my hair done" |
Dani comes in, and Sioned says, “It’s a shame you’re not reopening the salon – I need somewhere to have my hair done for the wedding.”
"Sorry it's so inconvenient, Sioned" |
Dani sarcastically replies that she is sorry her new business idea is so inconvenient. “Have you got any tips?” Sioned asks.
"Don't get married!" |
“Yes – don’t do it!” Dani answers,without hesitation, “Get married, I mean – its not worth the hassle! I’m surprised you’re doing it at all, after what happened the last time!” and she disappears upstairs, as Eileen tells her daughter not to take any notice.
Non looks ay the photo Sioned took at their 'picnic' |
Non is looking at a Facebook photo of Sioned and DJ;
"Is that Len, hassling you?" |
Mark tells her, “I don’t want to interfere, but is that Len, hassling you?” She nods and he assumes that Len is angry because she still has not gone home.
"He keeps warning me to go back" |
“He keeps sending me messages, warning me to go back,” she says,
"You should report him" |
and he recommends, if she is being threatened, that she should report him, as she has proof on her phone.
"I didn't want the messages on my phone" |
She maintains that she has deleted the messages, as she did not want them on her phone.
“Block his number, then,” is Mark’s advice,
"That would make him even more angry" |
but she replies that would make him even more angry. “He has no right to treat you like this – block him for your own good,” Mark insists.
Dani is working on her new plans |
In the Deri flat, Aled has just sent Dani another idea for the name of her new venture;
"Doodle – a cross between a poodle and another dog" |
“Doodle – a cross between a poodle and another dog – like a labradoodle.” Tyler is not interested,
"Sioned thinks I should reopen the salon" |
and Dani says that Sioned thinks she should reopen the salon.
"Stick to something you know, Dani" |
Tyler considers that she may have a point – sticking to something she knows is less risky,
"I want something different, something new" |
but Dani’s intention is to do something different, something new.
"Salon at the front – dog parlour at the back" |
Aled’s next suggestion is that she do both; “A salon at the front and a dog parlour in the back.”
"Colin suggested that a while ago" |
Dani recalls that Colin suggested the same thing a while ago, but she did nothing about it.
"Call it 'You and the Dog'" |
“You could call it ‘Chi a’r Ci’ [You and the Dog]”
"You're a genius1" |
Dani likes that name; “You’re a genius! Well, you – and Colin!”
"At least, someone appreciates me" |
Aled is pleased that at least someone appreciates him.
Iolo comes in . . . |
Then Iolo come up
. . . and apologises for his abrupt manner |
and apologises to Dani that he could not talk earlier; “That’s OK, you were busy,” she answers, “Listen, about this estimate – the plans have changed!”
"Is he still not here?" |
In the Deri, Cassie is surprised that DJ has still not turned up;
"He has a doctor's appointment" |
Sioned explains that the doctor’s appointment must be running late, and they might as well get started. “Are you sure you want a small wedding?” Cassie asks, and Sioned confirms that she does this time.
"Less chance for things to get messy" |
Cassie regards this as very sensible, as there would be less chance for things to get messy.
"Like last time, you mean" |
“Like last time, you mean,” Sioned growls, but is told that Cassie did not mean that, and then they turn to drinks for the reception. It is suggested that they could have Prosecco
"And a non-alcoholic cocktail" |
and a non-alcoholic cocktail, which would be more interesting than orange juice.
Cassie will give them a few bottles of wine to take home, so they can see which ones they like best; Sioned likes the sound of this, and they will also be given an old menu, to give an idea of what they have done in the past.
"I'm sure she wasn't talking about your wedding to Ed" |
“I’m sure she wasn’t trying to say anything about your wedding to Ed,” Eileen explains to her daughter,
"That's what everyone will think" |
but Sioned is quite aware that is what everyone else will think. “Since when do you care what other people think?” Eileen demands.
Non is still staring at her phone |
Mark is almost ready for work and comes downstairs to find Non staring at her phone once more;
"I'll sort out my own food" |
“I’ll sort out my own food when I get home,” he tells her, but she insists that she should be spoiling him. “I haven’t let you stay just to wait on me,” he points out, but she is adamant that she will make lunch, and will accept no arguments.
A call from this Len arrives |
As he is about to leave, Non’s phone rings and that she finds it is a call from Len;
"Why don't you block it?" |
“Why don’t you block it?” Mark demands, but she shakes her head, so he advises her to answer it and tell Len that it is over; “He can’t do anything to you here.”
Non puts down the phone |
She turns off the phone and puts it down;
"I'll go to Brecon after work" |
Mark decides, “I’ll go up to Brecon after work to sort things out,” but she forbids this, arguing that he will only make things worse.
"You don't know how nasty he can be!" |
“You don’t know how nasty he can be – please let me deal with this my way!” Non insists, “Without you putting pressure on me – please, Mark!”
Outside the Deri (suitably distanced) |
they emerge from the Deri, Tyler asks Iolo if he needs any help;
"Remember we have a meal arranged" |
Aled reminds him that they have a meal arranged, but Tyler does not seem particularly keen.
"Shall I ask Dani if there is any room at the Deri?" |
Then Tyler offers to ask Dani if there is any room in the Deri.
"I'm going to stay at Y Felin" |
Iolo assures him that he will be fine; “I’m going to stay in Y Felin, but thanks.”
"Garry – not worrying about anyone but himself!" |
Garry approaches, and is greeted by Tyler with, “Ah, typical Garry – not worrying about anyone but himself!”
"Haven't you got some packing to do, Iolo?" |
Garry reminds Iolo that he has packing to do, and says that it is none of Tyler’s business.
Tyler points out that he is worried about his friend,
Tyler explains 'friendship' to Garry |
explaining, “Someone you care about – but you wouldn’t understand.”
"Is a 'friend' all Iolo is?" |
Garry wonders if a ‘friend’ is all Iolo is.
"Just checking – in case you've swapped again!" |
“Just checking – in case you’ve swapped again!” he laughs.
Dani is working |
Dani is in the Deri flat, writing some notes, when Garry appears,
"I'm just collecting more stuff" |
explaining that he is just collecting some more stuff, “I’ve put all your clothes in bin bags – well, most of them anyway,” she informs him, “I would have taken them to Apêl Maenan,
"But I just couldn't be bothered" |
but I really couldn’t be bothered. Can you get rid of those massive dumbbells, too? All they do is trip me up and collect dust – when was the last time you used them?”
"I haven't been home to use them" |
He replies that he has not been home to use them; “And whose fault is that?” she snarls,
"Why are you throwing Iolo out?" |
then adds, “Why are you throwing Iolo out?”
"I'm just giving him notice" |
He tells her he is not throwing him out, but giving him notice, and in any case, he will not have to sleep on the street.
"This could trigger his OCD" |
“Garry, you know what he’s like – this could trigger his OCD,” she reminds him;
"I'm not to blame for Iolo'a condition" |
he acknowledges he is to blame for a lot of things, but Iolo’s condition is not one of them. “You just don’t care!” she rages, and he demands where he is supposed to live.
“I’m not apologising for wanting to move into my own house!” he emphasises,
"It might not be your house for much longer" |
and she remarks that it might not be his house for much longer – it all depends on what the court says.
Dani rushes to get a glass of water |
Then Dani suddenly feels unwell and gets herself a glass of water; Garry asks if she is all right,
"It's you – you make me feel sick!" |
but she tells him, “It’s you – you make me feel sick – get your stuff and leave me alone!”
"I shall make sure I'm not here" |
He says that he cannot collect it all now, but will come back another time.
“Give me a bit of notice next time, so I can make sure I’m not here,” she snaps.
She searches through the kitchen drawers . . . |
She is not feeling herself, then goes to one of the kitchen drawers, searching for something.
. . . until she finds the ear thermometer |
She finds the thermometer which she puts in her ear
She is worried about what it shows |
and looks worried about the temperature which it reveals, then she gets her coat.
"If he's not here soon, there's no point" |
Downstairs Eileen is demanding where DJ is; “If he’s not here soon, there’s no point in him coming.”
Garry comes downstairs |
Garry comes down with his bag, and Cassie says she was wondering when Dani was going to ask him to get his things.
"You haven't argued again?" |
“You haven’t argued again?” she demands, and Garry replies that one minute she is OK and then the next . . . he does not know what is wrong with her.
Cassie could say the same thing about him; “Your head’s all over the place!” but he tells her she is as bad as Dani. Cassie is undeterred;
Garry is told a few home truths |
“You’re in the middle of a divorce – if I were you, I wouldn’t say or do anything to make her angry.”
Apparently the Spanish Classes have been cancelled |
Non comes out of the alley and notices a poster in the shop window, advising that Spanish lessons are cancelled. This gives her an idea,
"You're still here, then?" |
but then she sees DJ coming along the street; “You’re still here, then?” he comments, “Sorry, that sounded as if I wanted to get rid of you.”
"I didn't tell you the whole truth" |
She says she is glad that she bumped into him, as she did not tell him the whole truth the other day about why she is there. “Things aren’t very good between Len and me – I didn’t tell you because of the wedding and everything – I didn’t want to worry you.”
"Abuse is abuse, whether it is physical or not" |
DJ wonders if he has something to worry about, and she admits that he does not hit her or anything like that, but does not treat her very well. DJ makes it very clear that abuse is abuse – whether it is physical or not.
"That's why I don't want to go back" |
She understands that, but that is why she does not want to go back and is hoping to stay in the village for a while.
"I've got some contacts who can help" |
He points out that there are people who can help her, and he has contacts if she would like him to do anything.
However, she does not want to do anything official, but he assures her that no one has to know, especially Len.
"Talking to Mark has helped" |
She says she has talked to Mark about it and that has helped. DJ points out to her that he is available if she needs to talk;
"I can't turn my back on a friend" |
he cannot turn his back on a friend, and she hopes to have a chat another time.
She calls the number on the poster |
When DJ has gone, she turns her attention to the poster, and dials the number given.
"The Spanish lessons – perhaps I could help" |
“My name’s Non, I’m phoning about the Spanish lessons – why have they been cancelled? Perhaps I could help.”
"I want to look my best . . ." |
Aled tells Tyler that he has made the effort to arrange this date, he he wants to look his best,
". . . unless you'd rather go out to lunch with Iolo!" |
“Unless you would rather go out to lunch with Iolo!” he groans, “I just feel jealous sometimes.”
"There's no reason to feel like that" |
He is assured that there is no reason to feel like that.
“I was thinking about when I confessed, and all that – we are OK, aren’t we?” Aled goes on, “So, do I look all right? Will you look after me if we break up?” but Tyler tells him to get a move on.
At last DJ puts in an appearance |
DJ has finally arrived at the Deri, explaining that the appointment took ages, and says that he did not hear his phone ringing.
"We've discussed all the important things" |
Eileen informs him that they have discussed the important things, and Cassie has left a choice of menus,
"And a few bottles of wine to try" |
and a few bottles of wine for them to try.
DJ does not appear to be paying full attention |
He appears to have something else on his mind.
Non gets back to Maes-y-Deri with her shopping |
Non arrives back at Maes-y-Deri, takes some shopping out of her bag,
She is looking pleased with herself |
removes her coat and smiles.
Iolo does some intensive cleaning . . . |
Iolo is still cleaning frantically in the kitchen when he hears the door open
. . . when Garry turns up |
and sees Garry; “Why are you still moving stuff in?” he demands,
"You've given me a month's notice" |
“You’ve given me a month’s notice.”
"Don't worry – you can stay . . ." |
Garry announces, “Don’t worry – you can stay. Perhaps I was a bit hasty,” and Iolo is very grateful to hear that. He realises that Garry intends to move in, but he does not have to move out;
". . . on one condition" |
inevitably, there is one condition. “I get the biggest room!” Garry instructs him.
Iolo has little choice but to agree |
Iolo reluctantly accepts this condition, which Garry knew that he would; “We two will get on very well, you’ll see.
"It's important to keep the place clean" |
“Don’t let me disturb you – crack on – it’s important to keep the place clean.”
Dani is violently sick |
In the Deri flat, Mark is delivering post while Dani is throwing up in the sink; he asks if she is feeling better now,
"I had prawns and pasta last night" |
and she replies that it is probably something she ate. “I had prawns and pasta last night,” she tells him.
"Have you been sick before?" |
“Have you been sick before?” is his next question, “Just this morning?”
"That's enough questions, Mark" |
She does not appreciate his detailed interest, but he stresses, “If it was food poisoning, you would have been sick before now.
"I lost half a stone in a week and had to see the doc" |
“I had it once, and I was in so much pain I lost half a stone in a week and had to see the doc.”
Dani makes it quite clear she is not going to see the doctor,
"But if it's not food poisoning . . ." |
but he goes on, “If it’s not food poisoning . . .” She moans that he is not helping, and he is convinced she is hiding something.
"You've tested positive – you've got Covid!" |
“Oh, you’ve tested positive, haven’t you?” he gasps and moves further away from her, “You’ve got Covid – and you’re carrying on as if nothing’s wrong!
"I have to be extra careful!" |
“I have to be extra careful – you know that!”
"It's not Covid – but I've had a positive test . . ." |
Dani assures him, “It’s not Covid – but I 've had a positive test –
". . . a pregnancy test!" |
“a pregnancy test!”
