. . . and now is feeling the effects |
He vaguely remembers that it was not her who answered the phone, but some bloke.

"How would you like to work for me at Tapas?" |
Dylan deigns to offer him a job at Tapas,
"As long as you're going to pay me" |
Aled replies, “As long as you’re going to pay me.”
"You can learn the business" |
He alleges that he wants to spend time with his son, as they have missed out on so much. Aled will be waitering, clearing tables, and helping out, to start with, but then could be taught other things about running a business, which Aled regards as really cool. Dylan will sort out a contract as soon as possible.
Aled is now much happier |
Aled is now much happier (but for how long?)

Kath and Non leave the café |
Kath and Non come out of the café;
"Are you intending to go to Penrhewl?" |
“Do you want to come to the house – or are you intending to go to Penrhewl?” Kath asks,
Non is not sure yet |
but Non is unsure; after seeing Mark yesterday she does not feel like going up there. Her head is still spinning, and Kath volunteers to go with her
"Well, if you love him . . ." |
“Look, life's too short - if you love him like you say you do, don't miss this chance,” says Kath, "And anyway, why bother coming back if you're not going to see him?"
"Dad's at Tapas" |
Jaclyn arrives at Hywel’s house and asks Aled if his father is there; he replies that Dylan is at Tapas and that things are much better between them.
"I've got a job – with Dad at Tapas!" |
“I’ve got a job,” he announces, and Jaclyn is very pleased; “With Dad at Tapas!” Her excitement wanes a little.
"Only Tesni needs to get a job now" |
She congratulates him, adding that only Tesni needs to get a job now; “Lisa sacked her – and she's heartbroken.”
Aled thinks that he is the cause |
Aled suspects that it was because of him, but Jaclyn is keen that they get together as a family this lunchtime, about one o’clock, and she will cook something nice, to celebrate having a new member of the family. He protests that his father does not want him to go out,
"Don't want to disappoint Auntie Jacs, do you?" |
She argues that Dylan does not have to know about it, and encourages him not to disappoint Auntie Jacs. He agrees, and she tells him not to be late.
"Look at the dust in here!" |
Eileen has taken DJ to Bryntirion, and while he is upstairs, she critically checks the amount of dust which has gathered in the house.
"Do you want any help up there?" |
She shouts up to him, “Do you want any help up there?”
DJ comes carefully down the stairs |
He makes his way down the stairs and confirms that he found what he was looking for, and says that he has to learn to do things for himself.
Eileen is eager to know what he has |
He does not reveal to her what he has collected.
"It's safely in my pocket" |
He now has it safely in his pocket, so they can now return to Penrhewl,
"I've got something to ask you, Eileen" |
but he would like to ask Eileen something.
Mark is rather hazy about what he did last night |
In the Deri, Mark tells Cassie that he really did intend to go to the airport – after some Dutch courage there;
He composes an apologetic text |
he is composing a text and reads it out to Cassie, "Hiya, Debs, sorry about last night – had a bit too much to drink. Hope you're all right." Cassie suggests he might say that he misses her and wants to go to Spain, but he cannot see any point, as she has obviously moved on. He presses the 'send' button.
"That was a very quick reply!" |
Almost immediately his phone sounds, and Cassie thinks that it was a very quick reply to his text,
"No, it's not Debbie – it's Bethan!" |
but he finds, “No it’s not Debbie – it’s Bethan! Kath says that you're willing to forgive me! So glad to hear it." He marches furiously out of the Deri, leaving Cassie wondering who on earth is this Bethan.
As Aled passes the café . . . |
Aled passes the café, and happens to see Tesni sitting inside,
. . . he spies Tesni, looking miserable |
looking very sorry for herself; he goes in and encourages her to smile.
"Sorry that Lisa sacked you" |
“Sorry for not turning up at the photoshoot – and that Lisa has sacked you,” but she is complaining that he did not answer his phone. She confirms that her sacking had nothing to do with him, and maintains that she did not do anything to cause it.
"You know how she flirts with me?" |
“You know how she flirts with me?, she explains, “We acted as a gay couple at the photoshoot.”
The thought of this amuses Aled |
Aled finds this quite hilarious.
"She flipped when I tried to kiss her" |
“She was really flirty, but completely flipped when I tried to kiss her. She wanted it, though – I know she did.”
"And she sacked you for that?" |
Aled cannot believe that she was sacked because of that, and insists that she should demand her job back;
"Really unfair – as in Unfair Dismissal!" |
“Sacking you like that was so unfair – really unfair – as in ‘unfair dismissal’!”
This makes Tesni think |
Tesni appears to be persuaded by this.
The meal is all prepared . . . |
At number 10, everything is prepared for lunch
. . . and Jaclyn is not happy |
and Jaclyn is becoming angry that neither Tesni or Aled have arrived; "They were supposed to be here half an hour ago!" Gws wants to know who is coming with Tesni, and she announces that it was supposed to be a surprise.
She has a revelation for Gerwyn and Guto |
Gerwyn is becoming tired of this and demands that she tell him what is going on, so she says, “Don’t be angry, but I have just found out something about Dylan. He has a son,”
"You what?" |
which comes as a great shock to Gerwyn and Guto. "With an ex-girlfriend who died recently," she continues,
"His son is Aled!" |
“You know his son – Aled! But you mustn't tell anyone!”
"You've kept that secret all these years?" |
“Nahh!” exclaims Gerwyn, “You’ve kept that secret all these years?” and Jaclyn replies that she only just found out about it;
Jaclyn wants to welcome him into the family |
she wants to welcome him into the family. She stresses that no-one else needs to know, but he needs his family.
"I've got a cousin – Aled as in Tyler?" |
There is a stunned silence.
A look of confusion on Gerwyn's face |
Gerwyn wears his usual perplexed look as she tells Guto to go and wash his hands for lunch. “I wanted you to be prepared,” Jaclyn tells him.Gerwyn is obviously not happy about the situation, as she says she wants to look after him – if he is willing, but he replies that he is not sure, as there are so many connections. She points out that is why she has to look after him – she does nopt want Dylan to influence him. Gerwyn protests thaty they have enough work with Tesni and Guto.
"I'm not happy, him being with Dylan" |
but his wife pleads with him, not happy at Aled being left alone with Dylan, that he should come and live with them. She maintains that they can all be accommodated in the house.
Tesni confronts Lisa |
Tesni confronts Lisa in the Deri, while Aled looks on;
"There's nothing more to be said" |
“There’s nothing more to be said!” Lisa snarls.
"You're being so unreasonable!" |
Tesni has plenty to say; she points out that Lisa is being unreasonable, sacking her like this, accusing her of flirting for weeks. Lisa maintains that she was just being supportive, and in turn accuses Tesni of ‘using’ her.
"What will people say about you 'grooming' me?" |
Tesni reminds her about buying all those clothes, and wonders what people would say if she accuses Lisa of ‘grooming’ her, and Aled watches with interest.
"No-one would believe your nonsense" |
Lisa argues that they were work clothes, and she can claim back the tax; “No-one would believe your nonsense,” she dismissively replies,
"But I have a witness – Aled!" |
but is warned that Aled has seen enough to be a witness,
He was not expecting that |
something which he looks rather dubious about.
Lisa appears to be considering climbing down.
A grim-faced Mark at Maes-y-Deri |
Mark sits at Maes-y-Deri, looking grim, as he awaits his mother’s return;
"Did you forget your passport?" |
“Spain didn't suit you, then – or did you forget your passport?” she sneers. A conversation concerning Bethan – or Non – ensues
"I've done ther right thing" |
"You're not going to try and deny you've seen her, then?" he snarls Kath insists that she has done the right thing, and once again he has come back with his tail between his legs.
The atmosphere is still pretty fraught |
but it is evident that Mark does not agree.
"Sorry we're late, Mam" |
Eventually the door of number 10 opens. and Tesni apologises profusely to her mother, explaining that she was busy,
"I wanted to introduce Aled to the family"
but this does not impress Jaclyn, tells Gerwyn to put on the kettle, then replies, “The big deal is that I wanted to introduce Aled to the family.”
"We'd like you to move in with us" |
She tells Aled that Guto knows as well, as there are no secrets in their family, and prompts Gerwyn, who says that they want Aled to move in with them; “There’s plenty of room – Tesni can sleep head to toe with Guto!”
"I'm not doing that, Dad!" |
Tesni is less than enamoured by this prospect, and her father reminisces about the time when she used to cwtch up with Mami and Dadi when she was a little girl,
Aled finds he has an amusing family |
which makes Aled laugh.
Gerwyn makes fun of Tesni |
“Dadi, the monster called Bella is going to get me!” he mocks Tesni, “And she used to cwtch with Dadi all night!”
"You're so embarrassing, Dad!" |
Tesni is very embarrassed by this, but Aled welcomes a real family.
DJ signals to Eileen |
At Penrhewl, Eileen offers to make a cup of tea, but this is declined, and DJ makes signals to her.
"I'll go up to bed, then" |
so she says she will go up to bed, leaving Sioned and DJ alone.
DJ apologises and takes a small box from his pocket;
"What's going on?" |
“What’s going on?” demands Sioned,
"Will you marry me, Sioned?" |
and after apologising that he cannot go down on one knee, once more he asks her if she will marry him.
"You do remember we're already engaged?" |
She points out, “We’re already engaged,”
He wants her to have this ring |
but he wants to give her this ring, until he can get to the shop and buy a proper one.
She wastes no time in putting it on her finger |
She says that it does not matter to her, takes the ring from the box and places it on her finger.
At that opportune moment, they have a visitor |
As she looks at it, someone comes into the room; “Sorry – the door was open,” says Non;
They were not expecting this |
both Sioned and DJ looks very surprised
"I didn't say that, Mam!' |
“But I didn’t say that I forgive her!” Mark emphasises to his mother, referring to the text she sent to Non, "Why would you tell her something so stupid?" She argues that she cannot remember saying such a thing, but that it is not so stupid, as it is time that he moved on.
"I was hurt and disappointed!" |
He is extremely disappointed; "I was hurt and disappointed – and it still hurts!" She reminds him that Non has apologised, but he demands why his mother always takes her side.
"I'll always be in her debt" |
Kath has had enough of this and refuses to discuss it any more, and Mark continues to insist that he has been deceived. "But I'll always be in her debt," Kath shouts.
"All we've done is argue" |
"What’s the point of her giving me a kidney if all we have done is argue ever since?" Mark wants to know. Kath is adamant that she has a perfect right to see Non, but he will not accept that behind his back, maintaining that Non cannot be trusted.
"You're all the same!" |
"Neither can you!" he rages, "You're all the same – all I've ever had from every woman I've met is deceit and lies!"
"Yes, from Debbie!" |
"Yes, from Debbie!" Kath exclaims, |
"Shut your mouth!" |
and as Kath keeps shouting at Mark, he screams, “Shut your mouth!” and flings the mobile phone at her;
Kath is extremely shocked |
a well aimed shot which catches her on the cheek.
