4 February 2020

Greta is enjoying herself
Greta is quite happily colouring while Aled watches her;
When Tyler comes in . . .
Tyler comes in through the open door
. . . she gets up to greet him
and Greta gets up to greet him.
"Don't worry – Dadi's here!"
“Don’t worry – Dadi’s here,” he assures her,
"She's lovely – just like you!"
and Aled says that she is lovely, just like Tyler.
"I haven't heard anything about Greta"
At the bar of the Deri, Anita is looking very distressed, and Cassie asks her if there is any news;  Garry simply demands, “What’s she doing here?”   She replies that she is waiting to hear something about Greta, and no-one has contacted her.
"All you need to know is that Greta's fine!"
He gruffly says, “All you need to know is that Greta’s fine – now, go!
"Aled had taken her"
“Aled had taken her, and Tyler has gone to fetch her.”
"I only turned my back for a few seconds"
Once again Anita protests that she only turned her back for a few seconds, but Cassie emphasises, “All that’s important is that she’s safe.”
"Dani has a broken arm"
Garry advises that Dani has a broken arm;  “But they’re keeping her in because of the knock to her head.”   Anita is very sorry to hear that, and explains that she was a total panic when she came into the pub,
"But I didn't push her!"
again insisting that she did not push Dani.   Garry tells her, “Just go – you’re not welcome here!”
"He hasn't been picked for the team to play Cwrtmynach"
Gwern has come in, looking downhearted, and Gwyneth complains, “He hasn’t been picked for the team to play Cwrtmynach tomorrow.”
Garry is infuriated, insisting that his skills have improved,
"Dai says I'm too slow!"
but Gwern informs him, “Dai says I’m too slow!”
"Auntie Cassie didn't get into the hockey team"
Cassie confesses that she didn’t get into Dyffryn Ogwen’s hockey team, but Garry angrily compares Gwern to a whippet, and is determined that he will sort this out with Dai.
Greta plays on, quite oblivious
As Greta is still playing quite happily on the floor,
"I let you know she was OK"
Aled points out, “I let you know she was OK – we were in the park!”   Tyler had not recognised the number as he had deleted Aled’s contact details, and demands why he left the park.   “I was worried that she was cold, so I brought her here – come on, chill, she is completely safe.”
"Why would you do something so stupid?"
“I don’t understand why you would do something so stupid!” rages Tyler,
and is informed that it is not right that Iolo will not let him see her.
They are being overheard
Meanwhile, Iolo is quietly coming in through the open door and listening to their conversation.   “You’re a liability!” growls Tyler.
"The three of us can go away together!"
Aled regards this rather as an opportunity;  “The three of us can go away together before anyone realises.”   Iolo is taking careful note of all this.
"I haven't put down all my hours here"
Mathew comes to the door of Cysgod y Glyn with a bill for Rhys, and he expects a sub from his partner to pay it.   “I haven’t put down all my hours down here – far from it,” Mathew assures him,
"Without you, we would never have opened on time"
and they appreciate they would never have been able to open in time without his assistance.
"You're engaged – right, we're celebrating!"
Then Mathew notices the ring on Ffion’s finger;  “You’re engaged!” he says, excitedly, “Right – the Deri in half an hour – we’re celebrating – and bring cash!”
"Gwern's really disappointed because of you!"
Garry marches into APD;  “Gwern’s really disappointed because of you!” he tells Dai, who points out that the boy needs more time, and actually he is not really interested.   Garry is unmoved;  “I want him in the team – he’s trained hard!”
"No way, José!"
“Don’t talk to me like that – no way, José!” Dai answers, “Perhaps that’s how things work with the flamingos – but not with Cwmderi RFC!   Flamingos – Newcastle United!”
"Magpies, not flamingos!"
Garry snarls, “Magpies – not flamingos!” but Dai describes them both as fly-by-nights,
"He's not going to be picked at the moment"
and informs him that Gwern is not going to be picked at the moment, then goes to see if he can help Mrs Jenkins, who is looking for something.
Iolo listens to the conversation
Iolo continues his eavesdropping,
"You've upset a lot of people, including me"
as Tyler says, “You’ve upset a lot of people, including me.”   Aled is still insisting that the two of them love each other – he is certain of that, but Tyler shouts that he has never loved Aled;
"I don't want a relationship with you!"
“All we had was a one night stand!   I don’t want a relationship with you – the idea of moving away together is bonkers!   You’re a lying little brat!   Telling the police we were sleeping together when I was your teacher – why lie?   Why destroy my life?”
"You're supposed to be with me!"
Aled replies, “I thought Iolo would finish with you – you’re supposed to be with me.”   Tyler has had enough of this and announces that he and Greta are going,
Aled blocks Tyler's way
but Aled blocks his way.   At that moment Iolo marches in, but is told that he has no right to be there;
Iolo is in a retaliatory mood
he has to be restrained by Tyler, or he would inflict some serious injury on Aled.   “He’s not worth it, not in front of Greta!” says Tyler.
Greta is picked up by Iolo
Greta looks pleased to see Iolo, who picks her up and takes her from the house.
"Please don't go, Tyler!"
As Tyler picks up Greta’s bag, Aled pleads with him not to go;
"I don't want anything to do with you!"
Tyler makes it very clear to him,“I don’t want anything to do with you!” and walks out.
"Thank you, Mrs Jenkins"
Dai has supplied what Mrs Jenkins was looking for, then returns to his conversation with Garry;
"I have to do what's best for ther team and the other boys"
“Look, I have to do what’s best for the team and the other boys,” he emphasises, “The boy has had a chance, and isn’t ready at the moment.”
"He won't improve until he's part of a team"
Garry that he will not improve unless gets to experience being being part of a team;
"I would consider it a personal favour"
then he adopts a threatening tone as he continues, “I would consider it a personal favour.”
Dai is affronted, and replies, “Listen to me, personal favours aren’t part of Cwmderi RFC’s ethos!”   Garry reminds him that the Deri has been a good friend to the rugby club for years –
"You've been meeting in the Deri – for free!"
a place for them to meet – for free.   If Gwern is not in the team . . .
"I'll put him on the bench, OK?"
Dai is forced to concede, “I’ll put him on the bench, OK?   He can come on in the second half.”
"I'm glad you've seen sense"
Garry is glad that Dai has ‘seen sense’.
Mathew and Tesni wait in the Deri
Mathew and Tesni are waiting in the Deri for Ffion and Rhys;
"What's the celebration, then?"
Cassie wonders what is the special occasion, as she brings a bottle of champagne, and is informed that Ffion and Rhys have got engaged.   “Congratulations, Miss!” says Tesni,
"It's 'Ffion' outside school, Tesni"
but is told that it is ‘Ffion’ outside school;  she is eager to see the ring, which she describes as, “Lush!”
"It was a bit odd, really"
Rhys says that the circumstances were a bit odd;  “Mathew had bought you a ring, and asked me to look after it.”
"It was supposed to be for you at Christmas"
Mathew continues the story that it was supposed to be at Christmas.
"Ffion found it, so I didn't have a choice!"
Rhys then adds, “Ffion found it, and thought it was an engagement ring, so I didn’t have a choice!”
"I thought you were one of these modern 'hands-on' fathers"
Cassie is acting as a nanny in the absence of Dani, and is asked to get Seren ready to go to Elinor’s;  “I thought you were one of these modern fathers – hands on!” she comments, and he maintains that he is trying his best.   He is hopeful that Dani will be coming back before long.
"I'm a sub today, Auntie Cass"
Gwern informs Auntie Cass that he is a ‘sub’ at the match today, and Garry remarks that Dai changed his mind, for some reason.   They will be there to support him,
"If I'm allowed on!"
but Gwern groans, “If I’m allowed on!”   Garry is quite confident that he will be.
Bananas and porridge for breakfast
Greta is back home, and enjoying her bananas and porridge for breakfast when there is a knock at the door,
"There's someone at the door – over there!"
and Greta directs Iolo towards it;  he is not very pleased when he sees that it is Tyler.
"Has he been in touch again?"
Greta slept well last night, and Iolo enquires if Aled has been in touch again.
Anita has brought back the buggy
Then there is another knock at the door, and this time it is Anita, who is returning the buggy.
"I wanted to check Greta is all right"
“I wanted to check that Greta is all right,” she says, rather more subdued than yesterday. Tyler confirms that she is, but it is no thanks to Anita.
"Dani upset me, and I wasn't thinking straight!"
“I don’t know how that boy got the chance to take her,” she stresses, and is told that it was because she was not watching the child.   Then she becomes angry;  “Dani upset me, and I wasn’t thinking straight!   I would never have forgiven myself if anything had happened to her.   Has Aled been arrested?”
"The police know that she's safe"
Iolo replies that the police know that Greta is safe,
"Taking a child is a serious offence!"
but Anita insists that taking a child from her pram is a serious offence.
"He wouldn't have if you were watching her!"
“He wouldn’t have had the chance if you had been watching her,” Tyler points out.
"You're the last person I want to see right now!"
When Anita starts raising her voice again, Iolo tells her, “Please, Anita, you’re the last person I want to see right now!”
Anita slinks away
so she goes, remarking that she will come to see Greta another time.
"She's right – we should report him"
“She’s right – we should report him,” says Iolo, and Tyler maintains that he will deal with it,
"We need to concentrate on Greta"
but wants to concentrate on Greta, and not have the police there.   Iolo reminds him, “She’s with me today,” but Tyler is under the impression that this changes things, and they both should be with her.
The first half was not very encouraging
At half time on the rugby pitch, Dai is giving the team a pep talk;  “That was a bit of a shambles, wasn’t it?
"What has Uncle Dai told you?"
“And what has Uncle Dai told you about letting the ball do the work – passing, passing, passing?   What’s faster than a player?   The ball!”
"Haven't you got something stronger?"
Among the spectators, Izzy pours a cup of coffee for Britt, but Garry would prefer something stronger.   “When’s Gwern going on?   We’ve come here especially for him,” says Britt, and Garry is confident that things will improve once Gwern takes to the pitch.
Gwern takes his place on the bench
The referee blows his whistle, and the game resumes, with Gwern taking his place on the bench.   Garry instructs Dai that he needs ‘fresh legs’,
Gwern is told to warm up
and Dai tells Gwern to run up and down to warm up.
The opposing supporters are rather raucous . . .
The opposing supporters vociferously and repeatedly shout, “Cwrtmynach!”
. . . and Garry hurls insults at them
but are told to shut up by Garry.
Tesni is going to take some clothes to her mother in hospital
It appears that some redecoration has taken place at Number 10, and Mathew arrives as Tesni is preparing to take some clean clothes for her mother;
"Or Ffion, or whatever I'm meant to call her"
she says that she is very happy for Rhys and Mrs Llywelyn;  “Or Ffion, or whatever I’m meant to call her.   Wasn’t it funny about that ring?”
Mathew tries to explain to Tesni
When Mathew tries to explain, she says that she is flattered;  “But that doesn’t mean I accept.
"I take it that you've asked Dad?"
“I take it that you’ve asked Dad?   That’s the first thing you should have done.”
He thinks that she has misunderstood;  “Tes, please don’t upset yourself!” he begs,
She bursts out laughing.
and then realises when she bursts out laughing that she was only joking.
"What if you don't like it?"
She demands when she is going to see this ring, but he responds, “You don’t deserve it now!   What if you don’t like it?”
"There's only one way to find out, isn't there?"
She concludes that there is only one way to find out.
Action shot of Gwern
On the rugby pitch, the ball is passed to Gwern, he runs with it, and then passes, resulting in a try.
Garry reckons he takes a lot of the credit for that
Garry is confident that he is responsible for the improvement in Gwern’s game.
A Cwrtmynach player sends Gwern flying
Then one of the opposing team pushes over Gwern, which infuriates Garry.
"You swine!"
He runs on to the pitch, shouting, “You swine!” and helps Gwern to his feet.
"Don't you call my son names!"
The main troublemaker amongst the Cwrtmynach supporters warns him that if Garry wants to leave in one piece, he should stop calling his son names.
"No wonder he's like that, with a father like you!"
Garry shouts back, “It’s no wonder he’s like that, with a father like you!   Ref, did you see that?”   The Cwmderi supporters urge Garry to calm down,
"Come here and say that – Cwrtmynach scum!"
and Garry challenges his antagonist to come and face him;  “You Cwrtmynach scum!”   Dai does not like the way things are progressing.
Greta appears to be deep in thought
Tyler is now playing with Greta, who chews the end of her pencil, and asks Iolo if he can take her for a walk.
"I'm not letting her out of my sight for a while"
“I’m not letting her out of my sight for a while,” is the reply, but Tyler suggests they can all go to the park, as Greta likes the swings.
"Did you have any idea he planned to do that?"
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, in case she’s reminded of him,” says Iolo, “Did you you have any idea that he planned to do something like this?”
"I'm not in contact with Aled"
Tyler emphasises that he is not in contact with Aled, and that is why he did not recognise the phone number.
"He did talk about running away with you and Greta!"
“But he did talk about wanting you and Greta to run away with him – did you discuss it?” Iolo goes on.   He is assured that Tyler does not know how he got the impression that was a possibility;  “You did sleep together!” Iolo reminds him.
"Aled doesn't mean anything to me!"
“Aled doesn’t mean anything to me!” insists Tyler, “You do know that, don’t you?” but is it obvious Iolo still has serious doubts.
One of the Cwrtmynach players has the ball, and Garry shouts, “Kick him, Gwern!”
He will not be placated . . .
which offends his opposite number in the Cwrtmynach supporters, and when they come face to face,
. . . and Cassie tries to prevent a brawl
Cassie is at pains to keep them apart, warning Garry to calm down before someone calls the police.
The refereee takes drastic action
The referee calls the two coaches and complains, “There’s indecent language, and what is going on behind my back is unacceptable.”
"Well done, Garry – match abandoned!"
Dai returns and informs Garry, “The game was there for us to win – but it’s too late now – match abandoned!”
"You're so embarrassing!"
As Gwern walks past, he remarks to his father, “You’re so embarrassing!”
Tesni opens the box
Tesni opens the box,
"Not that hand, is it?"
and is careful not to put the ring on her left hand;
"It's perfect. Mathew!"
she says that it is perfect and thanks Mathew;
"You never know – perhaps in the future some time"
“Well, it will do for now,” he says, “You never know – perhaps in the future some time.”
"There's plenty of time before making decisions like that"
She replies that there is plenty of time before they have to make decisions like that,
"I promise I'll ask your Dad's permission first!"
and he promises that he will ask her father’s permission first.
""I don't want anything from you, Garry Monk!:
Garry sits rather disconsolately by the bar, and Cassie brings him a coffee;  he offers Dai a pint on the house, which is refused.   “You know what?   I don’t want anything from you –
"I can see the tabloid headlines now!"
“I can see the tabloid headlines now – ‘under-12s match abandoned due to abusive parental behaviour’!   And you lost us the game!”
"If Gwern had been on from the start . . ."
Garry argues that if Gwern had been on from the start, they would have been in the lead.   “As the club chairman, I’m the one who will get the blame!” Dai moans, “Cwmderi RFC teaches their children to respect their coach, other players and the referee – and you’ve spoiled it all!”
Gwyneth finds something concerning on her phone
Gwyneth has been looking at her phone,
"This has gone viral!"
and advises them, “This has gone viral!” as she shows the footage from someone’s phone,
Garry's behaviour has been broadcast far and wide
clearly showing Garry’s reprehensible behaviour.
"Crikey Moses!"
Dai exclaims, “Crikey Moses!” and Garry looks rather sheepish.
"She settles much better in her own bed"
Tyler has put Greta to bed for a nap, and comments that she settles much better in her own bed;  “It took ages for her to go to sleep in the Deri.   We don’t know how much this going back and forth will affect her.”
"But being around us will only make things worse"
Iolo admits that he worries about it, “But being around us, while we’re arguing all the time, will only make things worse.”
"I miss it being just the three of us"
Tyler misses being in the house;  “Just the three of us,” and Iolo thinks they could come to an agreement where he could see her more often.
"Could I stay the night?"
The next stage of Tyler’s plan is to ask whether he could stay the night, so he is there with her in the morning, but Iolo tells him not to push his luck.
"Please, Iol, after everything that's happened"
“Please Iol, after everything that’s happened, I just want to be here with you, just for tonight.”
Iolo appears to be almost persuaded
Iolo looks as if he might have been  persuaded.
