29 January 2020 (2nd)

"Are you ready, then?"
In the Deri, Cassie is ready for her outing to Chepstow, and asks Garry whether Dani will be saying goodbye to him.
"She's stressed – Tyler again!"
“No – she’s stressed – Tyler again – don’t ask!” he growls.   She wonders if he wants to go, but he is in a hurry to get out of the place.
Debbie goes across . . .
From her position by the bar, Debbie notices Izzy and Eifion sitting at a table, and goes over to speak to them;
. . . to say she has nothing personal against Jim
she says to Eifion, “You do know I have nothing personal against Jim, don’t you?   Health and safety is important – that’s what my lawyer said, anyway – he says I deserve compensation!”
"He's been sacked because of you!"
Izzy objects to her position, reminding her that Jim has been sacked because of her;  Debbie was unaware of this, and did not intend it to happen.   “You made all the fuss,” Izzy points out,
"Debbie did get hurt, mind"
but Eifion remarks that Debbie did get hurt;  “Whose side are you on?” Izzy demands, and Debbie rushes out of the Deri.
“What’s wrong with you, not defending Jim?” Izzy continues, and he suggests that it might be a good thing that this has happened, as Jim is not getting any younger.
"You're just being 'ageist'!"
She protests that he is being ‘ageist’, and leaves in a bad mood, recommending, “You should re-evaluate your principles before I see you next!”
"The police won't tell me where she was!"
Dai moans to Jason, “Why did she talk to the police, and not to me?   I felt like a real fool!” Jason wonders why he called the police in the first place, but Dai goes on, “They wouldn’t tell me where she was!”
"She won't be away long, Dai"
“She wants time to think, Dai – she won’t be away long,” Jason assures him,
"Last time, it was to the other side of the world!"
but he recalls that last time she disappeared, it was to the other side of the world – and for weeks.   “She came back, didn’t she?” demands Jason,
Jason tries to get him to go to the party
and adds, “Sara’s having a party this afternoon for Ifan – to celebrate the fact he’s fine after the accident in the park.   It will be fun – something to cheer you up and take your mind off things.”
"No way, José!"
Dai announces his reply with another of his frequent utterances, “No way, José!”   Jason points out that he cannot say no to Ifan, who would love to see his Grandad.   “Is Dadi going, then?” Dai asks, and Jason answers that if his Grandad goes, Dadi will not have to.
"You want me to go because you don't want to!"
“I wasn’t born yesterday – you don’t want to cheer me up – you want me to go because you don’t want to!” rages Dai.   Jason knows that Sara will just rub his nose in the syringe business again –
"Super Dylan will be there, showing off!"
and ‘Super Dylan’ will be there, showing off.
"All that – and Jim's illness"
Dai argues that he is stressed enough as it is, with Garry and Gwern – and Jason’s mother – and Debbie, with her compensation – and Jim’s illness.
"Is Jim ill, then?"
Jason is surprised to hear that Jim is ill, but Dai tries to explain it away as being, “A heavy cold – some norovirus or something.
"I'm going to the Deri for a quiet pint and something to eat"
“Right, I’m going to the Deri for some peace and quiet – a quiet pint, and something to eat – enjoy your party!”
"Sorry I'm late, Sara"
Kelly returns late from a meeting and apologises to Sara;  “How can I help?” she says;  Sara hopes that Dylan turns up in a better mood, as he has been acting really oddly.
"I thought he would be better after seeing Jaclyn"
“I thought he would be better after seeing Jaclyn, but he’s worse,” she frets,
"That's man behaviour!"
and Kelly regards that as typical man behaviour.
"Do you think he's changed his mind about me and him?"
“Do you think he’s changed his mind about me and him?” Sara worries, but Kelly describes him as being smitten, and points out that men can just be moody sometimes. “You know, you do talk a lot of sense, Kel,” Sara concludes,
"You were right – I have been too hard on Jason"
“And you were right – I have been too hard on Jason.”
"Now you have a chance to make up for it"
Kelly tells her now she has a chance to make up for it, and Sara will do her best, but is making no promises.
Kelly is rather uneasy
Kelly looks rather uneasy, as this has the potential to affect her relationship with Jason.
"They're both 'flat out'"
At Penrhewl, Jim reports that both Eileen and Huwi are ‘flat out’, and Sioned says that her mother might as well have a snooze while Huwi is asleep.
"You're bound to pass this time"
Sioned is going out again for some trailer practice with Eifion, and is rather nervous, but Jim thinks she is bound to pass this time.
Debbie arrives unexpectedly
Then Debbie arrives, explaining that the front door was open;
"I didn't know Dai has sacked you!"
“I had no idea that Dai had sacked you – honest!” she says, “I feel awful – is there anything I can do?”   Jim replies that there is no need,
"I don't want a fuss, Debbie"
and he does not want a fuss.
"But it's not right!"
“But it’s not right – I know what it’s like to be jobless with a child to pay for!   I’m so sorry,” she goes on, and Sioned tries to assure her that it is all right.   Debbie will not be persuaded;  “You’ve been a good partner to Dai over the years, and you’ve got workers’ rights!”
Once again, Jim declares that he does not want a fuss;
"It' s up to me to sort this out!"
Debbie groans that she can be so stupid sometimes, and maintains that it is up to her to sort it out.   She knows exactly how she is to do that, which leaves Jim in rather a state.
Ifan is almost hidden by all the cakes
Kelly has provided an awful lot of cakes for this small party, and then Jason arrives and greets Ifan;
"Late, as usual!"
Sara cannot resist commenting that he is late as usual.
"You know what Dai's like – he's worrying about Mam"
He takes some food to Sara and says that Dai has a lot on his plate;  “You know what he’s like – worrying about Mam – and I am as well, to be honest.
"I'm sure she'll be back before long"
Sara is sure that Diane will be back before long, and describes her as a ‘drama queen’.
"Unlike partners, who come and go pretty quickly"
“The thing is, Sara, we only get one mother in this life – unlike partners, who can come and go pretty quickly,” he observes, “Where’s Dylan, then?”   Kelly says she has forgotten the cake, so will go down to get it.
Out-of-control schoolchildren . . .
When she comes down the stairs, a group of five schoolchildren, including Aaron, are throwing food at each other;
. . . are berated by Kelly
Kelly shouts at them to stop.   “Hang on!   What do you doing?   It doesn’t look like nothing to me!   Clear this up, please – why aren’t you at school, anyway?”
They will not stop their misbehaviour . . .
As one of them throws something else,
. . . so she orders them out of the café
Kelly orders them out of the café immediately;
"I'm surprised at you, Aaron Monk!"
“I’m really surprised at you, Aaron Monk!”
"Ah, chill out, Kelly!"
and he rather uncharacteristically, tells her to chill out.   Kelly demands, “What’s happened to you?   You used to be cool –
"Your mother won't be happy when she finds out"
your mother won’t be happy when she finds out.   And she really doesn’t need another Chester on her hands!   Out – now!”
"Show's over, folks!"
They make their way out of the café, and Kelly advises the rest of the clientèle that the show is over;
"Clear this up, will you?"
then she details Gwen to clear up the mess.
"I just want to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else"
Jason suggests to Sara, “I just want to make sure that what happened to us doesn’t happen to anyone else.”
Kelly produces the celebration cake
After the altercation downstairs, Kelly returns with the cake, which is surmounted by a green lorry, loaded with Smarties.
"The way Aaron spoke – just like his brother!"
“You wouldn’t believe the way Aaron Monk spoke to me just now – just like his brother!   I feel sorry for Britt,” complains Kelly.   Sara advises her that Jason wants to do something about what happened to Ifan in the park.
"We might be able to keep public spaces clean"
“We may not be able to do anything about the drug dealers, but, between us, we might be able to keep public spaces clean,” he proposes.   “A rota, for a group of local people to clean up – I wouldn’t mind doing a couple of hours a week.”
"I think a lot of people would be interested"
Sara thinks that a lot of people would be interested,
She receives a discouraging text
then she receives a text from Dylan;
"Dylan isn't joining us, then?"
Jason sees her reaction, and assumes, “Dylan isn’t joining us, then?”
"You're here – that's enough"
Sara responds that Jason is here and that is enough.
Kelly is about to cut the cake
Kelly is ready to cut the cake.
Dai's peace in the Deri . . .
As Dai sits quietly in the Deri with his lunch,
. . . is shattered by Debbie
Debbie comes in and begins, “Mathew said you would be here, stuffing your face – while poor Jim is out on his backside!”   Dai demands what she is on about, and she snarls, “Give Jim his job back, or I shall go for compensation!”
"Nefi wen!   You and your compensation!"
Nefi wen!   You and your compensation!” groans Dai, “Please leave me in peace to enjoy my lunch.”
Debbie continues, “If you don’t take Jim back, I’ll take you to the cleaners!”
"You don't have to worry about Jim"
Eifion thinks that he ought to intervene, and informs her that she does not have to worry about Jim, as he is happy to leave APD, now that he has had time to think.   “That’s rubbish – he doesn’t want a fuss, and to admit that you really hurt him!” she rants, “Judas!”
"Please – will you shut up?"
By this time, Dai is becoming exasperated;  “Please – will you shut up?”
"Now's your chance to give him his job back!"
Then Jim himself joins them, and Debbie maintains this is Dai’s chance to give him his job back.
"Right, Jimbo, do you want your job at APD back?"
“Right, Jimbo, do you want your job at APD back?” Dai asks,
"No – there's more than enough work at the farm!"
and Jim replies that he does not, explaining to Debbie that he has more than enough work at the farm – they will be lambing before long, and Huwi needs attention.
“I appreciate the fact that you’ve tried to defend me,” he goes on,
This takes the wind out of Debbie's sails
and Debbie is somewhat placated, but emphasises that she has not finished with Dai yet,
"I'm still going to get compensation out of you, Dai Ashurst!"
and intends to get compensation for what happened to her.
"I've put you in a very difficult position"
Jim apologises to Dai for all this;  “I’ve put you in a very difficult position,” he says,
"Don't listen to that 'crazy woman'!"
but Dai tells him not to listen to that ‘crazy woman’, maintaining that she can ‘stick’ her compensation.
"Thanks, boys, for not saying anything"
Jim is grateful that they have not said anything.
"I feel like one of the ladies in the Gin Club"
At Chepstow, Garry is sampling another gin, and comments that he feels like one of the ladies in the Gin Club;
"A few more of those, and you'll look like one!"
“A few more of those, and you’ll look like one!” Cassie tells him, adding, “The gentleman behind the bar is very generous with his measures.   The session was interesting – you’re the boss,
"You'd be foolish to change the Deri"
“but I think you’d be foolish to change the Deri.   You’ve got a good business there.”
"I'm never going to make a fortune"
He predicts that he will never make a fortune, but she points out that neither will a micro-distillery;  he muses, “Dani’s not a fan of the idea, anyway.”
"Sorry I put my foot in it yesterday!"
Cassie apologises for putting her foot in it yesterday, but he replies that it is all sorted now.
"I'd like to sort out the stress Tyler's causing!"
“Another thing I’d like to sort out is the stress Tyler’s causing!” he complains, but Cassie reminds him that Tyler is Dani’s brother.   “He gets in the way,” groans Garry.
"I've had my share of stress with those two"
She reminds him of the saying that you can choose your friends, but not your family;  “Think about mine – Teg and Steffan – I had my share of stress with those two!”
"And you came out of it with great dignity"
He remarks that she came out of it with great dignity, and she says, “You make me sound like the Queen – and I have been quite headstrong.”
"You've still got Mai"
“You’ve still got Mai,” Garry tells her, but she suddenly seems eager to change the subject, asking Mario, the barman, for another drink.
Aaron is looking worried
Aaron is sitting at home, looking worried;  Izzy asks him when her father and Britt will be home.
"Mam said one quick drink to say happy birthday to Dad"
He replies, “Mam said one quick drink, to say happy birthday to Dad, and then they will be back to make dinner, but they said no fuss.”
"You seem quiet tonight"
“You seem quiet tonight,” she tells him,
"You don't mind that I've moved in, do you?"
“You don’t mind that I’ve moved in, do you?   If you do, please say,”
"It's like having a really chilled big sister around"
but he says it is great, like having a really chilled big sister around.
She regards that as a nice comment, and goes on, “As a really chilled big sister, perhaps you could tell me what’s worrying you – there’s something.”
"I fell out with someone this morning"
After a pause, he confesses, “I fell out with someone today, that’s all – and I said some things I shouldn’t have.”   Izzy remembers she did that almost every day at school,
"Not at school – Kelly!"
but he says it was not at school, explaining, “Kelly.”
Cassie is rather interested in the barman
Cassie is still making eyes at the barman, and seems keen to have another drink, although Garry is having difficulty finishing his existing one,
Garry does not appreciate the Parma Violet
and is told that it is Parma Violet, which he finds rather distasteful.
"I'm sure he just winked at me"
“I’m sure that handsome chap just winked at me,” Cassie remarks, “And I don’t want to miss my chance.”   Garry describes her as naughty, insisting that he is far too young for her, and in any case, they have not finished their chat.
"Tell me more about Mai"
“Tell me more about Mai?” he asks, and she says he is like a dog with a bone.
"It's simple – we're not in contact"
“It’s quite simple, to be honest – we’re not in contact,” she says, and he is amazed, because Mai is her daughter.   “I know, but it’s a long story – I don’t know where she is,” she informs him.
"That must be difficult"
Garry realises that must be difficult, but she accepts that is the way it is.
"I'll find out what this handsome chap wants"
“Right, I’m going to get another drink – and going to find out what this handsome chap wants,” she says.
Jim is having a nap
Sioned and Eifion return to Penrhewl, and find that Jim is asleep, but he soon awakens and enquires how the lesson went;
Sioned is now more confident
Sioned seems very pleased with it, and will make a cup of tea.   Eifion is confident that she will pass the test this time.
"Thanks for today"
Jim thinks that he will go to bed, and thanks Eifion for everything today;
"I don't want everyone to know – not yet, anyway"
“Debbie’s heart is in the right place, but I don’t want everyone to know – not yet, anyway.   I don’t want people thinking the worst every time I forget someone’s name, or forget what I want in the shop.
"I don't want people to look at me with those 'poor thing' faces"
“I don’t want people to look at me with those ‘poor thing’ faces.”
"We'll do what we can, Jim"
They assure him that they will do what they can, and he concedes it is not fair on them, but goes up to bed.
"None of this is fair"
Sioned laments, “None of this is fair – but with things as they are, I don’t know how much longer we can hide the truth.”
She is given a hug by Eifion
Eifion gives her a hug.
"It has made me so angry with her"
Aaron tells Izzy, “I can understand why Kelly gave the baby away, but it has made me so angry with her – that’s why I was so cheeky earlier – I was horrible!   I know it’s not easy for Kelly, either,
"She has no idea what will happen to that baby"
“but she has no idea what will happen to that baby.”
"Kelly went through the right channels"
Izzy stresses that Kelly went through the right channels,
"Owen would have been my father – and then Gethin!"
but he cannot stop thinking, “If Mam had given me to Ffion, Owen would have been my father, and then Gethin!
"I'm so lucky I ended up with Colin!"
Izzy says that you cannot see into the future, but Aaron just feels so lucky that he ended up with Colin;  “I really like him – he’s a legend.
"I'll apologise to Kelly in the morning"
“I’ll go and see Kelly tomorrow morning to apologise.”
"We could cook something nice for them"
Izzy suggests that they prepare a birthday surprise for Dad and Britt tonight;  “We could cook something nice,” but Aaron points out there is not enough time to cook now, so proposes they get a really special takeaway from Cwm Delhi.
"And I'm paying, Izzy"
“And I’m paying, Izzy – I have some pocket money saved up,” he adds, so they look for the Cwm Delhi menu.
"I thought I wouldn't see you again"
At Chepstow, Garry had not been sure that he would see Cassie again, but she tells him, “The cheeky so-and-so wanted me to go and stay with him tonight – I only wanted a bit of fun –
"I didn't want breakfast with him!"
“I didn’t want breakfast with him!   What’s happened to just flirting?”
"I've been thinking"
“I’ve been thinking,” Garry begins,
"That's dangerous, this time of night"
and she maintains that is a dangerous thing to do at this time of night.   “I couldn’t bear not knowing where Gwern was – have you looked for Mai?”
Cassie does not want to talk any more about it
Cassie wants to drop the matter, so Garry will go and get just one more drink;
"I'll tell Super Mario to show my mother more respect!"
“And I’ll tell Super Mario to show my mother more respect!” he laughs.
