"Do you know how complicated an apprenticeship is?"

As they come into the garage, Gerwyn is pleading with Garry, “It makes sense – Guto will make a great apprentice!”   Garry wonders if he knows how complicated an apprenticeship is, with all the paperwork. 

"Just a father teaching his son a skill"

Gerwyn was not thinking of anything so formal;  “Just a father teaching his son a skill – I can train him myself.   You can’t deny it – there’s enough work for two.   Come on, Garry, please – he will be here in minute!   When he was little, he always pulled his toys to pieces, just to put them back together again – 

"You won't get anyone better, Garry!"

“you won’t get anyone better!”

"All right – just to shut you up!"

Garry agrees, simply to shut Gerwyn up, but points out that it is only for a trial period;  “A week to start with, and then we’ll see.”   

Garry is amused — at the moment!

Gerwyn is sure that he will not regret his decision.

"I hope Dani will change her mind"

Over the breakfast table, Anita hopes that Dani will come round in the long run and drop the accusation;  

Anita assumes it is Dani, wanting to make up

when there is a knock at the door, Anita adds, “She must realise that things have gone too far.”

"Hope I'm not disturbing you"

However, it is Dai at the door, and he hopes that he is not disturbing them;  

"I wanted  a quiet word with you, Siôn"

“I wanted a quiet word with you, actually, Siôn,” he says, “It’s Diane – she’s written a novel – and it’s good!   To be honest with you, it’s excellent!”   

"I didn't know she considered herself a novelist"

Siôn was unaware that Diane considered herself to be a novelist.

"The novel is a romantic one . . ."

Dai goes on, “But – how do I say it?   This novel is a romantic one – 

". . . as they would say, 'a bit sexy'!"

“as they would say, ‘a bit sexy’ – similar to what Cassie wrote, but much, much better.   The point is, this is in Welsh – 

"I thought you could use your influence, Siôn"

“I thought you could use your influence with the people who published your book to get Diane’s novel published too.   Diane’s been feeling a bit low lately, so something like this would cheer her up – seeing her novel being published.   Do you want a quick look at it now?” he asks, taking the laptop from the bag he is carrying, “I can tell you, Siôn, this is hot stuff!”

"Are you sure Diane would be happy for me to read it?"

“Are you sure Diane would be happy for me to read it?” Siôn enquires, “Writing is a very personal thing,” 

"Why don't you e-mail it to me?"

but Dai wants the world to know how brilliant she is.   “I’m a bit busy at the moment,” Siôn tells him, “Why don’t you e-mail it to me?   I’ll read it quickly before sending it to the publishers.”

"I want this to be a surprise!"

Dai considers that to be a great idea, and reminds Siôn that he must not breathe a word to anyone about this, especially Diane, as he wants this to be a surprise.   

Siôn is rather doubtful

Siôn does not appear too comfortable with the idea.

"Have you see my proper coffee?"

In the Deri flat, Garry asks Dani if she has seen his ‘proper coffee’, and she advises him to look behind things.   

"It's empty – must be that Tyler!"

When he does locate it he finds the tin empty, and when Tyler comes in, demands, “Did you use all of this?”   Tyler replies that he will buy some more later.

"Tyler, I've been thinking about this business with Anita"

Dani has been thinking about this business with Anita, and considers that it will help Tyler to get custody of Greta, but he wants to talk about it later, as he needs to take Greta back to Iolo.

"He slept with a schoolboy!"

“Do you really think the charge against Anita will help him?” Garry asks her, “He slept with a schoolboy!”   

"I'll do everything I can to help Tyler"

Dani is determined to do everything she can to make sure he gets custody, and reminds Garry to phone APD about the work on the salon.   

"I can't today – I'm busy"

“I can’t today – I’m busy,” he replies, “I’ll do it another time.”

Iolo is very pleased to see Greta

Iolo is pleased to see Greta, and has missed her;  “Come and see what I’ve got!” he says, 

"If you want to talk, do it through our solicitors"

but objects when Tyler sits down.  “If you want to talk, do it through our solicitors,” Iolo insists, 

"We can sort it out ourselves"

but Tyler seems to think they can sort it out for themselves.

"I'll bring her back over in the morning"

“No, we need a routine for Greta – and ourselves.   I’ll bring her back over in the morning,” Iolo tells him.

"This business with Dani and Anita . . ."

“This business with Dani and the charge against Anita,” Tyler begins, but is reminded that it is nothing to do with Iolo – unless Tyler wants to get dragged into another court case.   

"Monkey!" — Tyler is being ignored

The jigsaw puzzle with which they are playing features a monkey, 

"Crocodile!" — Tyler thinks he might as well go

a crocodile 

"Elephant!"

and an elephant, as Greta gets her first speaking part.

"There's no feeling like holding your own published novel"

Dai has gone to see Cassie in the Deri, and she admits, “There is no feeling like holding your own published novel for the first time.”   

"That's exactly what I want for Diane!"

That is exactly what Dai wants for Diane.   “And you think this novel is that good?” she enquires, 

"It's tip-top!"

and he describes it as tip-top, and stresses that it is in Welsh.

“The thing is, I’ve heard excerpts of Diane’s work at the Writing Club,” Cassie goes on, 

"She's been on a course since then"

but he explains that she has been on a course since then, and she must have learned a lot, because he could not put it down.

“Listen, you have to read this novel, because I’d like you to write something for the cover – a quote.”   

Dai is excessively positive about this novel

She is surprised that they are so far advanced in the process, and Dai is confident, “Once Siôn White’s publisher reads the book, he’ll want it on the shelves ASAP.”   Cassie does not look entirely convinced.

Cassie tells Tyler to pull his weight

During that conversation, Tyler has returned to the bar, and Cassie warns him, “I’m not going to carry you for an entire shift!   Don’t tell me – you and Iolo have argued again!”   

"Iolo's so cold towards me"

Tyler complains that Iolo is so cold towards him now, and reasons that if they did argue, then at least he would know where he stood. 

Cassie thinks that things will be all right, and Iolo just needs some time;  “Perhaps he’ll realise that it is not a good idea to go for full custody of Greta.   

Tyler is not in favour of this move

What you need is another man,” but Tyler does not agree with this.

"The best way to move on from one man is to find another"

“From my experience, the best way to move on from one man is to find another,” she suggests, “It works every time.”

"OK, Mr Morris – see you in a while"

In the garage, Guto is on the phone;  “All right, Mr Morris, we’ll see you in a while.”   Gerwyn has just finished his car, and is told that it will be collected soon.

"Where are you taking Mam on Friday night?"

“Where are you taking Mam on Friday night – Valentine’s Day?” Guto asks his father, but Gerwyn has nothing planned;  it is different this year as Jaclyn is not well.   

"She's recovered enough to go out for a meal"

Guto argues that she has recovered enough to go out for a meal.

"Pass me that spanner on the top shelf, Guto"

Gerwyn has now moved on to the next car and asks his son to pass him a spanner from the top shelf, warning him to be careful as it is rather heavy.   

He reaches it from the almost inaccessible shelf, but it slips from his hand

Guto reaches up to grab it, but it slips from his hand and there is a loud crash.   

The terrible crash that follows . . .

They both 

. . . sounds extremely expensive

look horrified.

"Is this coffee all right?"

Tyler has bought more coffee, and Dani remarks that Garry is not usually fussy;  she wonders if he has phoned the solicitor, 

"I don't think that's a good idea"

but Tyler does not think it is a good idea.   “I don’t want to upset Iol even more by going for full custody of Greta,” he says, and she thinks he has lost the plot.

"If I give him some space, he may change his mind"

“If I give him some space, he may change his mind and realise Greta needs to spend time with us both,” he explains, 

Dani does not share his optimism

but Dani simply laughs.   He continues, “Look, Dan, while we’re talking about this, I think you should drop the complaint against Anita as well.   I think it will complicate things between me and Iolo.”

"Anita did this to me, remember?"

Dani draws his attention to her arm;  “My arm’s in plaster, and Anita did this to me, remember?   Don’t you think I deserve justice, too?”   

Tyler walks out of the room

Tyler says he is sorry and walks out of the room.

With difficulty, Dani dials a number

Dani picks up her phone, and with difficulty dials a number, left-handed;  

"Could you meet me outside the salon?"

“I was wondering if you could meet me outside the salon later?” she asks.

Anita finds an unwelcome letter

At Y Felin, Anita is about to put the kettle on for a cup of tea, but has just picked up the post, including one item which she finds disturbing;  

"It's a date for the pleas hearing"

“I don’t believe this!” she groans, “It’s the date for a plea hearing – ‘in the case of breaking and entering against Mrs Anita Pierce’!   I was hoping that she had changed her mind – 

"I didn't think she'd take me to court!"

“I didn’t think she’d take me to court!”   Siôn points out that it may not come to that, 

"This is just another step in the process"

and that this is just the next step in the process.

"We have to put a stop to her, Siôn!"

“No, we have to put a stop to her!’ Anita wails (in a rather unfortunate turn of phrase).   

"I'll see what I can do, OK?"

Siôn tells her to leave it with him, and he will see what he can do.

"I thought we could have a revolving door"

Dani is speaking to Dai outside the blackened remains of the salon;  “I thought we could have a revolving door,” she says, 

"Revolving doors are not cheap"

but he points out they take up a lot of space and are not cheap.   

"I want something grand, 'modern' and 'sleek'"

Dani wants something grand, and is informed that if she will pay, APD can do anything.

“I want ‘modern’, but ‘sleek’, and something that’s welcoming,” 

"If you want 'sleek', you've come to the right man!"

and Dai assures her that if she wants ‘sleek’, she has come to the right man, but he stresses that in the long run, a salon is just a salon.

"Treatment rooms and a vegan café"

“I’m not opening a salon!” she protests, “I’ll have treatment rooms upstairs, and a vegan café down here.”   

"Nuts and seeds – budgie food!"

Dai objects strongly to that, describing it as nuts and seeds – or ‘budgie food’.   Dani is insistent that it is not a fad, and that it is better for the planet, as well as being a good business opportunity.

"What about the farmers?"

Dai rages, “What about the farmers?   You live in a beautiful agricultural area, and you’re turning your back on the farmers!”   

"I shall use Cae Glas vegetables"

She counters this argument by stating that she will use Cae Glas vegetables, and is just trying to tap into a growing market.   They could host special evenings there, 

"Like a book launch?"

and the idea of a book launch immediately springs to Dai’s mind;   this changes his attitude somewhat.

"It won't be done today"

In the garage, Gerwyn and Guto look with dismay at the damaged windscreen of the car, and although Gerwyn can fix it, it will not be today, as as he will have to order another windscreen.   “Then there’s the cost – and we’ll have to do it for free!”

Here comes Mr Morris, not looking happy

At that moment, Mr Morris, the car’s owner, is coming in, 

"I can explain"

and looks with disgust at the windscreen of his car;  “I can explain,” says Gerwyn.

Tyler thinks that dating another gay man will solve his problems

Tyler appears to have taken Cassie’s advice, and is looking up eligible men on his phone;  “He looks nice!” Cassie enthuses, and Tyler is thinking about contacting him.

"How were things between you and Jason this morning?"

Elsewhere in the Deri, Sara and Dylan are eating their meal, and he asks how things were between her and Jason this morning;  

"I don't love Jason any more"

once more she assures Dylan, “I want you to know that I don’t love Jason any more,” and he reminds her that she said the same thing yesterday.   

Methinks the lady doth protest too much

“I want you to know that I’m happy with you – my relationship with Jason ended years ago, and I'm grateful to you for making me realise that,” she goes on.

"Well, I'm pleased about that"

Dylan is pleased to hear that, but she continues, “I have to be honest – I don’t want him to be in a relationship with my best friend – 

"Apart from that, I don't care what Jason does, OK?"

“she deserves better – but apart from that, I don’t care what Jason does, OK?”

"This is about Iolo, is it?"

Siôn comes in and asks Tyler if he has a minute;  “This is about Iolo, is it?” Tyler assumes, but is told that it concerns Anita and Dani.   

"I don't know how much good will come of this case"

“I know she’s in pain with her arm, but I don’t know how much good will come of this case,” Siôn emphasises.

"There's no point dragging someone through court"

He is surprised that Tyler agrees with him;  “If they can sort it out without going to court, that’s what should happen – there’s no point dragging someone through court without need.   I’ll have a word with Dani.”   

Siôn appreciates that, and is asked, “Do you think you can have a word with Iol – make him see there’s no need to go to court for custody of Greta?”   

Siôn does not say anything more

Siôn walks away without further comment, 

"Well done!"

and Cassie praises Tyler for what he has done.

Here comes trouble, in the form of Garry

Dai and Dani are still in conversation outside the salon, but Garry is approaching, across the road; 

"What are you doing?"

he demands what Dani is doing.   

"You didn't have time"

“You didn’t have time, so I asked Dai to price up the job,”she replies.

"I told you I would sort it!"

“I told you I would sort it!” he snarls, and she points out that she was trying to help because he was busy.   

Dai is caught in the middle of this

“Dai, when I’m ready to talk about the renovations, I’ll be in touch,” he stresses, “I own the place, not her!”

"I thought you bought it for me"

Dani was under the impression that he had bought it for her, but he tells her, “Not now, Dan – I don’t have time for this!”

"Siôn – have you had a chance . . ?"

Dani apologises to Dai, and then he sees Siôn passing, and asks if he has had the chance to read the novel.   

"Not yet, Dai"

“Not yet, Dai, but I’ll be in touch once I have,” is the reply.

Gerwyn offers all kinds of sweeteners

Gerwyn is attempting to placate the irate owner;  “We’ll do the work for free – I will clean the car for you, to make sure there isn’t any glass inside – and you can have your next service for free.”

Mr Morris is a very dissatisfied customer

The owner makes it clear, “I’m not happy!” but is assured that he will have to car back tomorrow, even if Gerwyn has to go to Swansea himself to fetch the glass.

"What's going on here?"

Garry arrives and demands what is going on, assuming that the damage was caused by Guto;  despite Gerwyn’s explanation that it was an accident, 

"He's damaged the company's good name – before lunch!

Garry’s furious response is, “Out!   He’s damaged a customer’s car – and the company’s good name, before lunch!”   Then he turns to Gerwyn and roars, “You’re lucky you’re not getting the sack, too!”   Faced with Garry’s fury, Guto thinks it is advisable to leave, all the while saying how sorry he is.

"I'll phone around for the glass, then"

Gerwyn will phone around for the glass, 

"You're going to pay for this – every penny!"

and Garry warns him, “You’re  not putting it on the account – you’re going to pay for this – every penny!”

"Is the job still available?"

Guto goes straight to Tapas and asks Uncle Dylan if the job is still available;  “Things not working out at the garage?” Dylan enquires, and is told that Guto broke a car windscreen and was sacked.

"Everyone has to start at the bottom and work their way up"

“You can start tomorrow as a pot washer,” decides Dylan, “Everyone has to start at the bottom and work their way up.”   He gives Guto some money and tells him to enjoy his last night of freedom.   

"It's nice to have family close"

Sara comments that it is nice to have family close.

"If you drop the charges, it will help me and Iolo"

In the Deri, Tyler is trying to convince Dani, “If you drop the charges, it will help things between me and Iolo – Siôn says he feels terrible about what happened, and Anita is really sorry.”

"She still broke my arm!"

Dani is unmoved;  “Perhaps she is – but she still broke my arm!   I’m sorry if that complicates things with you and Iolo, but I’m not dropping the charges.”

"Aren't you even going to say sorry?"

Garry comes in with a face like thunder;  “Are you going to tell me what’s wrong?” Dani demands, “Aren’t you even going to say sorry, for speaking to me like that in front of Dai?   

"I'm your wife, not a piece of rubbish!"

“I’m your wife, not a piece of rubbish!”

"Stop sticking your nose into my business, then!"

“Stop sticking your nose into my business, then!” he growls, and when she points out that she was trying to help, 

"For once in your life, just do as I tell you!"

he shouts, “Don’t!   Please, for once in your life, just do as I tell you!   Leave the salon to me!”

Tyler and Cassie watch this display . . .

Watched by the bar staff

and the customers, he marches off upstairs.
