30 September 2025

Gaynor creeps out of bed . . .

Gaynor wakes up in bed beside Tom;  she carefully gets out of bed

. . . searching for Cheryl's phone

and looks though his clothes hoping to find Cheryl’s phone.

Tom is stirring

When he shows signs of waking, she returns to the bed.

"What are you doing?"

“What are you doing?” he demands, to which she replies that she went to the bathroom, then he wishes her, “Good morning.”

"I'll make breakfast"

He gets up and decides that he will make them breakfast, but Gaynor is not hungry.

"OK, a coffee, then"

“OK, a coffee, then, while you have a shower,” he says.

"How can you act so normal?"

She sits up and wants to know, “How can you act so normal after yesterday?”

"I did it so we can live a normal life"

He answers that it is the whole point;  he did what he did, so that they can live a normal life.

"I'll take a day off"

“I’ll tell you what I’ll do – what if I take the day off today?   It would be nice to spend some time together, wouldn’t it?   And we need to start planning this wedding properly – what do you say?

"I'll make a coffee"

“I’ll make us a cup of coffee to help you wake up,” he continues, as he opens the curtains.

She resumes her search

As soon as he is out of the room, Gaynor returns to her search for Cheryl’s phone, again without success.   He calls to her, so she goes down.

Hey, stranger!"

Cai is back at the hospital where Olivia sees him;  “Hey, stranger!” she says, “You’re not back here, are you?”

"I've brought a gift for Stephen"

He informs her that he has brought a gift for Stephen to thank him for everything, so she demands, “Where’s mine, then?”

"Only pulling your leg!"

but assures him that she is only pulling his leg.

He recalls that when he left the hospital, Olivia was off sick, but she tells him that she is loads better now.

"I said I'd pop in before his rounds"

“Right, I had better go now, as I said I would pop in before his rounds.”   She is very glad to have seen Cai again.

"You have no idea what a relief it is"

At the breakfast table, Tom tells Gaynor, “You have no idea what a relief it is that you know – I had to keep it to myself for so long – it hasn’t been easy.   I’m sure you have a million questions,” he goes on, nonchalantly spreading marmalade on his toast.

Gaynor is simply staring into space, as he assures her, “I didn’t want to tell you so many lies, but I had no choice.”

"If it was self-defence . . ."

She appears dubious about that, and replies, “If it was self-defence, why didn’t you say anything about it at the time?”

"Who would have believed me?"

“Who would have believed me?” he demands, so Gaynor doubts that he trusts her.   He insists that he does trust her, but did not want to drag her into it;  “You don’t deserve that.”

"You should go to the police . . ."

Gaynor suggests that he should go to the police;

". . . before they come looking for you"

“Isn’t it better to go to them before they come looking for you?”

"Without a body, there's no evidence"

He maintains that it is too late for that;  “They won’t find the body now – and without a body, there’s no evidence.”

"How can you be so cold?"

Gaynor cannot understand how he can be so cold;  he insists that he does not want to be, but it is a matter of need – he has been under so much strain.

"There's no way the police could prove anything"

“There’s no way the police could prove anything now – so we’re safe, Gaynor.

"I don't want you to worry about anything"

“I don’t want you to worry about anything — look, I’m determined that we’re going to have a nice day –

"Eat your breakfast"

“eat your breakfast.”

Cai is now going

Cai has been looking for Olivia;  “I’ve just come to say that I’m going,” but he notices that she is rather pale.

"I haven't stopped all morning"

She says that she has not stopped all morning, and it is a pity that not everyone’s room is not as tidy as his.

He invites her to sit down and she says that she has missed their chats.   He wonders what has been happening in the place since he left and she says that work has been pretty boring.

"Stephen is vegan"

Cai still has the box of chocolates, revealing that Stephen is vegan.

"The fresh air will do you good"

Tom comes in and tells Gaynor to come on as the fresh air will do her good –

Gaynor does not appear keen

in fact, it will do both of them good.

"I know you've had a shock"

“I know you’ve had a shock – it’s a lot to take in.   Why don’t we go out for a coffee?’

"The bank card business – was that you"

Gaynor asks him about the bank card business;  “Was that you?”

"I didn't like seeing you so worried about her"

“I didn’t like seeing you so worried about her,” he replies

"You wanted me to hate her!"

and Gaynor imagines that he wanted her to hate Cheryl.   “I thought it would make things easier to move on,” he confirms.

“Stoke – that card was used in Stoke!” she snarls;

"Stoke is not that far"

he points out that it is not that far.

"You drove to Stoke to trick me?"

“You drove to Stoke to trick me?”   He answers that he had to do something;  Gaynor was worried about her and he was just trying to help her to live her life again without Cheryl – in order to give her closure.

"I've done all this for you, Gaynor"

“Please, Gaynor – I’ve done all this for you – you must see that – shall we go?”

She adopts her usual confused expression

Gaynor simply looks confused.

Siôn has been summoned by his son

Siôn comes into the deli, where Iolo is sitting at a table and wants to see his father;

"Greta needs to complete another family tree"

“I need help with Greta's homework – she needs to complete another family tree.”

"The teachers are not very original"

Siôn comments that the teachers are not very original, while Iolo realises that he has left some things at home.

"Just copy the old one"

“Just copy the old one – I’m sure the teacher won’t notice,” Siôn advises, but is told that Iolo got rid of that last year.

"Things have changed since then – Alex?"

“And things have changed since then, anyway – Alex?   Who knows if I have other brothers or sisters?

"I might have to tell Greta she needs a forest"

“I might have to tell Greta she needs a forest!”

His father tells him there is no need to be like that;

"The corps word is 'Coedwig'!"

“And in any case, ‘Coedwig’ is the correct Welsh word.”

The 'happy couple' come in

Then Gaynor and Tom come in, so Siôn greets them as ‘the happy couple’

"How are the plans coming along?"

and wonders how the plans are coming along.

"We're looking forward to it, aren't we?"

“We’re looking forward to it, aren’t we?” replies Tom,

Gaynor says nothing

but Gaynor says nothing.   Siôn maintains that it will be the happiest day of their life, then points out to Iolo that everything he needs should be in the attic at Y Felin.   They leave to construct this family tree.

"How about that bottle, Gaynor?"

Tom had been considering getting an expensive bottle of wine, but Gaynor heads for the toilet,

"I'll be back in a minute"

telling him she will be back in a minute.   He looks suspicious.

She looks through her bag . . .

Gaynor delves into her bag,

. . . but finds her own phone is not there

but finds that her own phone is now missing,

She returns, crestfallen

so she returns, very worried, to Tom, who she finds is speaking to Hywel.

"I have good news about your plot"

“I was just telling Tom I have good news about your plot,” he says.

"We're going to meet in the Deri"

Tom confirms that the three of them are going to meet in the Deri to discuss it.   Hywel will see them at one o’clock.

"Have you got my phone?"

“Have you got my phone?” Gaynor demands and Tom agrees that he has,

"Do you want it?"

wondering whether she wants it.   “Well, yes – what if Lois tries to get in touch?”

"She's too busy enjoying herself . . ."

He is convinced that Lois is too busy enjoying herself,

". . . just like you should be"

“Just like you should be – right, come on –

"We have a lot to organise with this wedding"

“we have a lot to organise with this wedding.”

As he takes the bottle he had bought, he continues, “Remember what Siôn  said earlier – the best day of our lives,” and they leave the deli.

"Your family must be proud of you"

As they have a cup of tea together, Olivia tells Cai that his family must be very proud of the way he has recovered.

"I don't think so"

However he is less sure of that;  “They should be – you’re amazing –

"You live together in Cwmderi"

“and you live together in Cwmderi?   He confirms that they do, at Y Felin.

"Perhaps I could come over and see you some time"

Perhaps I could come over and see you some time – after you’re settled, to see how you’re doing.”   Cai says that would be great.

"Now you know what sort pf Christmas I had last year . . ."

As they sit in the Deri, Tom is tucking into his meal.   Gaynor has been thinking, but he is the one who speaks;  “Now that you know what sort of Christmas I had last year, why don’t we make the one this year full of fun and hope for the future?

"Why don't we get married on Christmas Day"

“Why don’t we get married on Christmas Day?   Instead of being reminded of Cheryl’s abuse,

"I want to celebrate us and our love"

“I want to be able to celebrate us and our love.”

Gaynor cannot believe it

Gaynor looks at him with incredulity

"Imagine – we might have snow"

as he drones on, “Imagine – we might have snow.”

"But everything is planned for February"

She protests that everything is planned for February.

"Christmas would be perfect"

He insists that changing the date is a small matter — and Christmas would be perfect.

"Why the rush?"

She wonders why the rush,

"I can't wait, Gaynor!

and he replies enthusiastically, “I can’t wait, Gaynor – we’ll make it a special day – only you and I will know how much we’ve sacrificed to be together.”

"Quantum Hydro Works has an offer for you"

Hywel arrives and announces that Quantum Hydro Works has an offer for them.

"It's not the most sensitive thing for some"

Siôn cannot understand why schools still do family trees;  “It’s not the most sensitive thing for some.   Perhaps it would be better to keep the information on Greta simple.”

“Simple?” asks Iolo, and is told that there is no need to write everything down on paper;  Siôn suggests that just Tyler and himself would be enough.

"Like it or not, Alex is a relative . . ."

Iolo thinks otherwise;  “Like it or not, Alex is a relative –

". . . and Greta has a right to know"

“and Greta has a right to know who her family is.”

"Are you going to mention Liv as well?"

“Are you going to mention Liv as well?” his father asks.

Geraint is on duty today

As Geraint clears away their plates in the Deri,

"This is a long document"

Tom complains that it is a long document.

The document must be in complicated Welsh

“Well, Quantum Hydro Works has an obligation to the next generation of Welsh speakers,” Hywel points out.

"I've heard that spiel before!"

Tom laughs that he has heard all that spiel before;  “Some of these words are so long, I don’t understand them.”

"You'll get first refusal"

Hywel informs him that essentially what it means is that for a small deposit they will get first refusal on any land the company sells before it goes public.   Tom wants to know how much of a deposit is involved and is told £1,000;

"I ca offer a £250 discount"

“But because you’re locals and you’ve already bought a plot, I can offer you a £250 discount, as long as I find out today..”

Tom likes the sound of this and asks Gaynor, “What do you think?”

"Yeah, all right"

Although looking very doubtful, she agrees, probably to keep him happy, so Tom regards it as a ‘win-win’ situation and is ready to sign the document.

Tom is eager to sign

Hywel hands him a pen to do so and Tom tells Gaynor that they have so much to look forward to, adding, “By the way the wedding is on Christmas Day,” which comes as a surprise to Hywel,

She was not expecting it to be made public

and indeed to Gaynor.

"I'll get the next round"

“Well, congratulations!” says Hywel, “I’ll get the next round to celebrate, then.

'I'm so excited"

Tom maintains that he could not keep the information in;  I’m so excited to be your husband – and now the cat is out of the bag, it’s a Christmas wedding!”

Is the 'worm' starting to turn

Gaynor appears possibly to resent this manipulation.

"When a selfish junkie turns up . . ."

Iolo complains to his father, “You rejected every opportunity to meet Alex, but when a selfish junkie turns up to take my daughter, you support her.”

"She won't take your daughter"

Siôn is confident that she will not take his daughter,

"You don't know what's going through her mind"

but Iolo rages, “How do you know?   You don’t know what's going through her mind!”

Siôn reminds him that he and Tyler are Greta’s parents and that is never going to change;

"But Liv is her biological mother"

“But Liv is her biological mother and perhaps some day Greta will want to see her.”

"That's why I had a chat with Greta"

Iolo accepts that, “And that’s why I had a chat with Greta a few weeks ago, explaining everything about Liv.   Greta’s a sensible girl, but I don't want to encourage the relationship,

"Not yet, as Greta's not ready"

“not yet, as Greta’s not ready.”

"I suppose you know best"

Siôn concedes that he knows best.

Gaynor is still searching for the phone

Gaynor is still searching through the bedroom;  she looks in the  wardrobe,

It is not in the wardrobe . . .

taking out some boxes from the bottom of it,

. . . so where else is there to look

then wonders where else there is to look.

Tom's briefcase . . .

She takes Tom's briefcase

. . . contains what she is looking for . . .

and at last finds what she is looking for at 21:20  –

. . . and she looks at it

she feels greatly relieved.

On her way home . . .

As Olivia finishes her shift, she looks on her phone at

. . . Olivia is looking up Y Felin . . .

the location of Y Felin, Heol Pwll Bach, Cwmderi

. . . and is planning something

and appears to come to a decision.

Gaynor is disturbed by Tom's voice

As Gaynor studies the phone, she hears Tom’s voice, “Do you fancy some of this wine?” and says that she will be down there now.   She puts the briefcase back where she found it

She rather stupidly put the phone in her back pocket . . .

and slips the phone into her back pocket,

. . . where it is quite conspicuous

where it is quite conspicuous.

"Happy Christmas 2025!"

She finds him with a Christmas globe musical box;  “Happy Christmas 2025,” says Tom,

"Christmas Day will be  day to remember"

“Just to reminder us that Christmas Day will be a day to remember.   Go and get some glasses for this wine.”

Definitely a conspicuous place . . .

As she goes, Tom notices the unmistakable outline of the phone in her back pocket,

. . . so he deftly retrieves the phone

follows her and quickly removes it.

"Why have you got this?"

“Why have you got this?” he demands, “Gaynor, this is my burden to carry.

"Let me take responsibility"

“I don’t want you to worry about anything.   Let me take responsibility for the phone and everything else – please.

"The future is what's important now"

“The future is what’s important now –

"You've been under so much strain"

“you’ve been under so much strain.

"I've booked flights to Barcelona"

“I have one other surprise for you, but don’t be angry with me.   I’ve booked us flights to Barcelona leaving tonight.”

"Tonight?"

“Tonight?” she gasps,

"It will be heaven, Gaynor"

and he promises some sun, some tapas, just the two of them – heaven, and kisses her.

When – and how – will this nightmare end?

She looks as if she is in the middle of a nightmare – as indeed she is.
