Notice outside the Deri . . .

A notice is outside the Deri, announcing the ‘danceathon’ and encouraging everyone to come and support.   Dani is approaching with her cleaning materials

and when she sees the notice, she removes it.

This is watched by Britt, who is taking a box from the back of her car.

Cai is 'limbering up'

At Y Felin, Cai is practising his stretches, in preparation for his exertions this afternoon, 

"A bit early for that, isn't it?"

but Iolo considers that it is rather early for that sort of activity, as the ‘danceathon’ does not start until 1pm.   

"Every second counts when you get to my age"

“Every second of stretching counts when you get to my age,” Cai tells him.

He asks if Iolo has spoken to Olivia – Liv.   

"I'm going to try and make things work"

Iolo confirms that he has and that he is going to try and make things work, 

"That's great, Iol"

which Cai regards as great.  

"I haven't told Greta yet"

He has not yet had a chance to talk to Greta, so Cai promises not to say a word.

"Remember we're all here for you"

“Remember that we’re all here for you – and the little one, when he or she arrives.”

Something is tickling Rhys 

In the deli, Rhys is looking at an app on his phone which he appears to find very amusing.   “Aren’t you worried about the effect those apps have on your brain?” Howard demands, 

"How can you put up with it?"

“How can you put up with it?   It’s just noise to me,” 

"This is funny!"

but Rhys insists that it is funny.

"I've got something for you"

Mark comes in for a coffee and Howard goes to talk to him;  “I’ve got something for you,” and hands him some money.   “Your share of the profit from those chains – it’s more than we expected to get and there might be more stuff in the lock-up.   I haven’t looked properly yet – but I’ve got a couple of spare hours before the twins’ birthday party.”

"It's a year since we lost Seren"

Mark unenthusiastically says that they can do that and reminds Howard, “It’s a year since we lost Seren.”   

"We can go there later"

“Sorry, boy – we can go there later to keep our minds busy,” Howard proposes.   

Rhys is engrossed in another video

As he is about to leave the deli, Rhys is listening to a video, 

"The cutest Welsh boy I've ever met . . ."

in which we can hear someone is saying, in English, “The cutest Welsh boy I’ve ever met in my life.   We met at The Raz nightclub in Ibiza, had the best week of our lives, but my phone smashed and I lost his number.   

". . . Mathew from Cwmderi"

“He was drop dead gorgeous, about six foot five, dark hair, a bit of a salt and pepper vibe and he had the cutest Welsh accent.   His name is Mathew and he’s from Cwmderi.   So there was definitely a spark and he could be for keeps.   Help me, please.”   

This makes Rhys take notice

Rhys is looking very troubled by this discovery.

Britt cannot control the volume

In the MFC flat, Britt is having some trouble adjusting the volume on the karaoke machine;  

"What's that racket?"

Colin comes in and shouts, “What’s that racket?”   

"I've borrowed this speaker"

She informs him that she has borrowed this speaker for the ‘danceathon’ today and she just wanted to check that it was working.

"I almost had a heart attack!"

“I think it is, just about – I almost had a heart attack!” he complains, then can see that Britt is becoming rather emotional.   

She is not happy about this afternoon 

He assures her that everything will be all right, but she is not so sure.   

"Dani said everything's fine"

He appreciates that she is worrying about Dani and Britt maintains that it is not right that Dani will not be there with them.

“Look, she said that everything’s fine and to go ahead with the arrangements,” 

"But is she only saying that?"

but Britt is convinced that she is only saying that.   She does not like to think about Dani suffering on her own at home.   

"Everyone deals with these things differently"

Colin reminds her that everyone deals with these things differently;  “Some want the company of other people and then others, like Dani, just want to be on their own.   Now, no more playing about with that speaker – we’ve got a big day ahead 

"I want toast, not tinnitus!"

“and I want toast for breakfast, not tinnitus!”

"I was happy enough on the sofa"

A taxi is outside number 7, but Anita moans to Ieuan, “I was happy enough on the sofa.”   

Anita wants Kelly with them

He reminds her that she was complaining about being stuck in the house all day, but she is insistent that she is not going unless Kelly comes with them.

“Listen, we’re celebrating our wedding anniversary – and Kelly has got enough on her plate, preparing for this interview.”   

"We should stay and help her"

Anita is adamant that is why they should stay in the house to help her.   She is told that peace and quiet are what Kelly needs 

"I've organised a special day"

and Ieuan urges Anita to get into the taxi because he has organised a special day for them

“What exactly are we going to do?” Anita wants to know.   Ieuan maintains that it is a surprise, 

"I don't like surprises"

but Anita does not like surprises, so he explains they are having a special lunch in The Glyndwr.   She does not appear to like the sound of this, so he reminds her that she loves their beef dinner.   

“I’ve never liked beef!” she exclaims.

"Kelly would be very disappointed"

Ieuan then adopts a different approach;  “Well, Kelly would be very disappointed if we cancelled all the celebrations because of her.   Come on – you’ll enjoy it when you’re there.”

"I'm not having the beef!"

“Fine – but I’m not having the beef,” Anita insists as she gets into the taxi.

"How many other Mathews are from Cwmderi?"

Rhys demands, “How many other Mathews with salt and pepper hair are from Cwmderi?”   Howard does not believe that he is six foot five 

"It might be a coincidence"

and suggests that it might be a coincidence and that she got the name wrong.   In any case, what would Mathew be doing in Ibiza?

"Here's her Instagram"

Rhys has now found her Instagram account, on which there is a photo of Mathew.   Underneath are the words which she spoke on the video.   

"At least we know he's safe now"

“At least we know that he’s safe now,” says Howard 

"I should show this to Sioned"

and Rhys thinks that he should show this to Sioned.   

“No way!   She’ll go ballistic!”

Rhys believes that it would be better coming from him than if she found it herself.   

"She has enough on her plate"

Howard points out that she has enough on her plate with the twins’ birthday party today, so Rhys must not say a word.

Britt is getting 'wound-up'

In the Deri, preparations are being made for the ‘danceathon’, with Britt being unable to make up her mind where the speaker should be placed.

"Are you trying to kill me or what?"

Colin complains, “You almost gave me a heart attack this morning and now you’re giving me a hernia!   Are you trying to kill me or what?”

She angrily replies that there needs to be room for people to dance, 

"That table's lopsided"

then decides that the table is lopsided.   

"It's fine, Britt"

Cai protests that it is fine, so she rants, “Fine?  I don’t want things to be fine, Cai – 

"I want everything to be perfect!"

“I want everything to be perfect – a perfect tribute to Seren, like she deserves – not ‘fine’!   

"You're not here to do a 'fine' job . . ."

“You’re not here to do a fine job! 

". . . the Strictly final, all right?"

“You have to dance as if you were in the Blackpool tower on the Strictly final, all right?”

"I've been getting people to sponsor me"

He hands over his first contribution;  “I’ve been getting people to sponsor me and I hope that more will contribute today.”   

This tones down Britt slightly

This tends to quieten Britt, who maintains that Seren would love the fact this has all been arranged for her, as she loved sparkles and music and dancing and fuss.   

"Thanks, Cai"

Britt thanks Cai.

"I fancy those mini pies, you know"

At the Glyndwr, Ieuan and Anita are perusing the menu and she thinks that she will have the ‘Gentleman’s Tea’, “Because I fancy those mini pies, you know.”

Ieuan looks at her

Ieuan is looking at her, 

"Have I left a curler in my hair?"

so she wonders if she has left a curler in her hair; “Can’t a man smile at his wife?” he demands, 

"People will think you're mad!"

but she advises him not to do it like that, or people will think he is mad.   “I don’t care what people think of me – I’m the happiest man on the planet.”

"Darren?"

Anita calls a passing waiter, then exclaims, “Darren?   

"There was no need to come all this way"

“There was no need to come all this way to have tea with us.”   

The waiter is understandably bemused . ..

The waiter looks rather bemused – 

. . . as is Ieuan 

and so does Ieuan.

The lock-up has not produced anything of value

As they rummage through the contents of the lock-up, nothing of any value has come to light, 

"It suits you, Mark"

but Howard has found a feather boa, which he drapes round Mark’s shoulders.   

"This is all junk!"

“This is all junk!” scowls Mark, “Whose clever idea was it to buy this blinking lock-up?”   

"There was always an element of risk"

He is told not to be so negative;  “I told you there was an element of risk,’ Howard points out, but Mark fears that it will cost more to get rid of the stuff than they paid in the first place, 

"Where am I going to keep it?"

besides which he does not know where they will keep it all.   He already has a shed full of toilet rolls and cleaning stuff – and now Howard has dug him into an even bigger hole.

Howard is naïvely confident that there must be a way to make a profit from this stuff;  “OK, Del Boy, what’s the plan?” Mark sneers 

"Hey, that gives me an idea!"

and that gives Howard an idea.

The danceathon is about to 

In the Deri, it is time for the ‘danceathon’ to begin and Britt welcomes 

Several strangers there

everyone who has turned up to remember and celebrate the life of, “Our little Seren.  It is hard to believe that a year has gone by – a very difficult year for us all.   Dani cannot be with us today, but I'm sure she’ll be pleased to know that so many of you have turned up to support.   

"I also want to thank Cai Rossiter"

“I also want to thank Cai Rossiter in particular, because this was his idea

“And although we're all here to remember our little Seren, 

"Please give what you can"

"We are also here to raise money for other families who are grieving, so please give what you can.   I think it’s time we started this ‘danceathon’.”

"Five, four, three, two, one . . ."

She counts down to the start 

Colin sounds the hooter

and Colin sounds the hooter;  

Cai begins his gyrations

the music begins and Cai gyrates, as do many of the others.

"This is hilarious . . . "

At the bar, Lleucu is telling a couple of her mates, “Oh my gosh – you haven’t seen it – it’s hilarious.   She’s looking for him and she’s put it on socials – it’s gone viral!”

Rhys has just come to the bar as she continues, “She says, ‘His name’s Mathew and he’s from Cwmderi.”   

Rhys is now very worried

Rhys is very concerned about this.

Mark and Howard are going to sell the stuff

Outside APD, Mark is hanging up various garments found in the lock-up, and asks, “Are you sure it’s all right to do this here?”   Howard points out that Mathew is not there to stop them.   

Mark hopes that Howard has the gift of the gab like Del boy;  “People usually come here to buy screws and cement, not toilet rolls and feather boas.”

"Brynmor's staff sold like hot cakes"

“I heard that Brynmor’s stuff sold like hot cakes the other day,” Howard observes, “And everyone around here loves a bargain – everyone will have heard about this stall in no time.”   

Specially painted sign

He has just finished painting a sign, reading ‘POP–YP’ [Pop-up] which he shows to Mark.

"We had a lot of fun on that holiday, didn't we?"

Anita is still convinced that she is speaking to her son, and remarks, “We had a lot of fun on that holiday, didn’t we?”   

The waiter simply smiles

Ieuan thinks that Darren needs to go and phone home now, 

"He was a lot quieter than usual"

but she maintains that he was a lot quieter than usual;  “That Sheryl has probably got into his head.”

"Are you glad you came now?"

Ieuan assumes that now she is glad that she came and she agrees with him;  

"We should go out once a week now . . ."

“A day out does someone the world of good.   I’m going to insist that we go out at least once a week from now on – 

". . . whether you like it or not"

“whether you like it or not.”

The waiter is thanked for his co-operation . . .

She gets up to visit the toilet;  in her absence Ieuan thanks the waiter for his assistance;  

. . . and given a tip

“You have no idea how much your kindness means to us,” he says and offers him a tip.

Dani looks at the poster

Back home at Maes-y-Deri, Dani is looking at the poster which she tore down earlier;  then there is a knock at the door and Iolo announces that it is him.   

"I thought you'd be at the danceathon"

“I thought you’d be at the ‘danceathon’,” he tells her.

"It's nothing to do with me"

“It’s nothing to do with me,” she snaps, admitting that she should never have said what she said yesterday.

"I've agreed to adopt the baby"

“Well, I want you to know that I’ve agreed to adopt the baby.”   

"It doesn't matter what I think"

She replies that it does not matter what she thinks, 

"Your opinion means a lot to me, Dani"

but he insists that her opinion means a lot to him.

"I'm the last person to hear about anything"

“Does it?   Nobody listens to it.   “I’m the last person to hear about anything – about Liv, the baby, the ‘danceathon’ – nobody cares what I think.”

"That's not true"

He points out that is not true;  “This baby’s future . . .” he begins, 

"I've heard this pitch before"

but she snarls that she has heard this pitch before.   “Liv is in a difficult place,” he continues.

"They've already raised quite a lot of money"

“Who isn’t?” Dani demands, “Are there are a lot at the Deri?”   He has heard from Lleucu that they have already raised quite a lot of money and has also seen a video of Cai ‘Dad Dancing’.

“Look, this decision between Liv and me – it’s going to happen – 

"You have a right to put a stop to it"

“but this ‘danceathon’ doesn’t have to happen if you’re not happy.   You’ve got the right as Seren’s Mam to put a stop to it.   

"Phone me if you're not happy"

“Phone me if you’re not happy.”   He leaves the house.

Sales are going well

The stall outside APD seems to be doing a roaring trade, with Mark agreeing with Howard’s assessment that people round there do love a bargain.”   

"£24.30 already"

They have already raised £24.30 and have not been there long.

"More of Brynmor's hand-me-downs?"

Rhys comes along the street;  “What’s this, then?   More of Brynmor’s hand-me-downs?”   Mark informs him that there is a lot of quality stuff there, 

"How about this, Rhys?"

with Howard drawing his attention to a blazer, which he insists is a bargain, but Rhys does not want one.

"Imagine how swank you would look"

“Imagine how swank you would look, walking into meetings, wearing this,” says Howard, 

"Sorry, not interested"

but Rhys is not interested.   He then has a quiet word with Howard;  

"Sioned will find out from someone else"

“I’ve just heard Lleucu and her friends talking about that video – if we don’t tell Sioned, she’ll find out from someone else.”

“But it’s the twins’ birthday today,” he is reminded, 

"Once the party has finished, all right?"

so is adamant that once the party has finished, they have to tell her everything.

Mark asks how it is going in the Deri 

"It's nice to have people coming together"

and Rhys replies that it is nice to have people coming together;  “There are quite a few – fair play to Britt and Colin – they’ve done a good job.   

Mark looks towards the Deri

“It must be a difficult day for everybody.”

Dani looks at the poster . . .

Dani is still looking at the poster, 

. . . then at Seren's picture . . .

then glances across to the picture of the family which Seren drew 

. . . which makes her emotional

and becomes rather emotional.  

She comes to a decision

She comes to a decision.

"Almost £100"

Howard is counting the money again and is pleased to see that they have reached almost £100, but Mark is deep in thought;  

"How would you feel about giving it to the danceathon?"

“Listen, Howard, how would you feel about giving that money to the ‘danceathon’?”

“What?   All of it, including my share?” asks Howard, “How are you going to afford a solicitor if you give your money to charity?”   

"Some things are more important"

Mark maintains that some things are more important, 

"Yeah, all right"

so Howard agrees and hands over the money.   Mark comments that they still have plenty of other stuff to shift.

Mark approaches the Deri . . .

He approaches the Deri, but, at the same time, 

. . . and so does Dani

Dani is coming around the corner by the surgery and also approaches the Deri.

The music is still playing

Inside the music is still playing and Cai appears to be getting rather tired;  

Lleucu suddenly catches sight of . . .

Lleucu is very surprised 

. . . Dani

to see Dani come in, 

Cai signals to Rhys . . . 

as is Cai, who signals to Rhys 

. . . to stop the music

to turn down the music.

All eyes turn towards Dani

All eyes turn towards Dani and there the episode ends.
