15 October 2025 (1st)

Cai does his morning exercises . . .

Cai is doing his exercises on the floor in Y Felin, while wearing headphones;
. . . and cannot hear Lleucu

Lleucu comes in to announce that she is going to school, but he cannot hear her.
"I'm training for a 10k"

He says he is sorry, but is getting himself into the mood to go running;  he is training for a 10k.

Lleucu was hoping that he would give her a lift to school,

"Don't overdo the running"

but then decides, “You know what?   I’m late – don’t worry, I’ll walk.   Don’t overdo the running or you’ll pull a muscle.   See you later.”

Eloeri has to deal with angry residents

Eleri is just showing one of the unhappy residents of Maes-y-Deri out of the Tomos ac Ellis office;  “Yes, I understand your concerns and I’m doing everything I can to find you and everyone else in Maes-y-Deri other homes.   You’ll be bingeing box sets on your new sofa before you turn round.”

"Sorry, we have to close"

There are several other people wanting to get into the shop, but she announces that they have to close and that she will be in touch.   Then she locks the door, while the group outside are grumbling amongst themselves.

She hides away from them

She tries to hide away from them.

Meanwhile, the man she was talking to tells the others that there has been no movement;  they will have to wait and see.

Brynmor polishes her Harley-Davidson

Brynmor is lovingly polishing his Harley-Davidson outside Cysgod y Glyn when Kelly approaches;

"This is where you're hiding"

“Oh, aye, this is where you’re hiding.”   He describes his motorcycle as a beauty.

"It's time for an airing"

He has had it in storage and now it is time for an airing.

“I could discuss motorbikes all day, but that’s not why I’m here,” she announces,

"Either I have a fairy godmother . . ."

“Either I have a fairy godmother,

". . . or someone has bought me a new coffee machine"

“or someone has bought Y March Gwyn a new coffee machine.”

Britt is taking it easy

Britt is lounging on the sofa when Colin comes back, unaware that she is there;

Colin reprimands his phone

“Oh, here you are – if I didn’t know any better, I’d argue that you have legs,” he says as he discovers his phone on the table.

"I'm regretting this drop-off business"

Britt enquires if everything is all right and he confesses that he is starting to regret this drop-off business;  “I thought it was a hit –

". . . another parcel for that 'Vargenne'!"

“another parcel arrived for that ‘Vargenne’;  the problem is that there’s a mountain of boxes there already.”

Cai comes in

He has just admitted Cai to the flat and they are surprised to see that he has been for a jog.   He says that it helps his mind more than anything.

"I'm trying to get hold of Dani"

“I went past Maes-y-Deri and I’m trying to get hold of Dani.”

Britt replies that she is cleaning today and was down in Cross Hands yesterday.

"I'd like to run a 10k to raise money in Seren's name"

Cai hopes that they might be able to help him;  “As you know, it’s almost a year since we lost Seren – and I’d like to run a 10k to raise money in her name.”

"What charity did you have in mind?"

Britt is rather overcome with emotion so Colin answers for her, agreeing that it is a good idea and wondering what charity he has in mind.

"That should be up to the family"

Cai insists that should be up to them as her family.   Colin is sure that Britt  will have some suggestions, but she protests that she cannot think of one just like that;

"He's put us on the spot!"

“He’s put us on the spot!”

Cai tells them that there is no rush, so when they get a chance to think about it, they know where he is;  he leaves the flat.

"That's a lovely idea"

“Fair play – that’s a lovely idea, isn’t it?” says Colin and Britt is angry that she did not think of it herself.

"It's been almost a year . . ."

“It’s been almost a year since we lost Seren and what am I doing?   Filling my head with parcels and delivering fried chicken!” she snarls.   Colin reminds her that life goes on, but that does not mean that they do not think about Seren.

Colin gives her a hug

He gives her a comforting hug.

"It's not charity"

“I told you that I don’t need charity,” Kelly reprimands Brynmor, but he insists that it is not charity, but rather a gift.

"I'm an independent woman"

“OK, I might be guilty of wishing for a knight in shining armour to save me from time to time, but I’m also an independent woman who can sort out her own problems!”

"Starting a business can be an uphill struggle"

Brynmor apologises, but he appreciates that starting a business can be an uphill struggle;  “And after what you said about Anita, I just saw an opportunity to help you – you can’t be angry about that?”

"Breaking an entering"

Kelly adds that she could report him for breaking and entering, but he points out that he got the key from Ieuan.

"Ieuan's in on it as well?"

“He’s in on it as well?”

"Are you going to forgive me?"

Brynmor wonders if she is going to forgive him.

"I'm going for the job at Brynawelon"

Kelly laughs and does appreciate it, “But, I don’t know, your money and efforts might be wasted – because I’m going to go for the job at Brynawelon.”

"That's great, Kelly!"

Brynmor is quite excited to hear this, as she goes on, “You were right – I’d make a good manager – I just need a good dose of self-belief.   It’s better than flogging wraps for a living . . .”

She takes a deep breath

Here she takes a deep breath before continuing, “I just need to convince the panel – and with my CV . . .”   Brynmor confirms that he has read mountains of CVs over the years

"I'll look over your CV, if you like"

and is willing to look over her application form, if she would like.

"That would be fab"

She replies, “That would be fab,”

"But there is one condition"

but he sets one condition.

Maes-y-Deri residents are up in arms

The angry residents outside Tomos ac Ellis are becoming even angrier;  they are banging on the door and shouting, “This is a joke!”

"What do you think you're doing?"

Jinx approaches and demands what they think they are doing;

"Tomos ac Ellis are doing their best"

“Tomos ac Ellis are trying their best – and this is not helping anyone.   Just go home and someone will be in touch.

“We’ve heard that before – the same old story!” answers their spokesman, so Jinx pleads with them to go and thanks them for their understanding.   After they have dispersed, he peers in through the window,

"It's all right – they've gone!"

then shouts through the letterbox that they have gone.

"I'l get a spare key from your father"

There is no reply, so he goes on, “OK, right, I’m getting worried about you now – I’ll just get a spare key from your father – it will only take two minutes.”

Eleri opens the door

This has the desire effect and she opens the door, looking very crest-fallen.

"Shall we go home for five minutes?"

He suggests that they should go home for five minutes.

"Are you sure this is roadworthy?"

Kelly is sitting in the sidecar of the motorbike, asking, “Are you sure this is roadworthy?”   Brynmor assures her that it is and that they do not make them like this any more.

"It's like sitting in a wheelbarrow!"

“And for good reason,” she grumbles, “It’s like sitting in a wheelbarrow.”

"Enjoy the trip"

He hands her a crash helmet, commenting, “Enjoy the trip – and let me know if I’m going too fast.”

Kath is watching . . .

In the background, we can see Kath approaching along the back street;

. . . but then walks away

she simply turns round and walks away in disgust.

"Running isn't very Seren"

In the Deri, Britt tells Colin, “I know Cai is trying his best, but running isn’t very Seren – she was like a bottle of pop, wasn’t she?   And 10k is rather . . . vanilla.”

Colin has other suggestions

Colin suggests that he could do the run in fancy dress, then comes up with the idea of sponsored nail painting or sponsored gymnastics.

"Or a spelling test"

His final suggestion is a sponsored spelling test, at which he would be useless.

Britt is listening to the music playing in the background;

"This was one of Seren's favourites"

“This song was one of Seren’s favourites.”

"Two flat whites"

Cassie brings their two flat whites,

"We shall have to cancel!"

but Britt abruptly tells her that they will have to cancel them, as she dashes out of the Deri and Colin follows her.

"A sidecar, Cassie – that's what's wrong"

Kath has just come in, so Cassie invites her to have one of the coffees, but she is not in the mood;  she explains, rather unhelpfully, “A sidecar, Cassie – that’s what’s wrong!”

"Sidecar?"

Cassie drinks one of the coffees.

Cai is studying something

Cai is looking at some paperwork in Y Felin when Lleucu comes in;

"Anything important?"

“Anything important?” she asks, “Are you going to tell me?”   Her father says that he is enquiring about going back to work, but she points out that he has only just come home.

"The sooner you come back to school, the better . . ."

“They can’t pay me for ever,” he says.   Lleucu does not want to put any pressure on him, but points out the sooner he comes back to school, the better,

". . . Mr Hughes is getting on my nerves"

as Mr Hughes is getting on her nerves.

Now he is going into the garden to cut the perennials back before winter;  he invites her to help if she wants.   Before he can do so there is a knock at the door;

Britt and Colin come in

Britt and Colin come in.

Britt announces, “I’ve got it!”

"Cai wanted to raise money"

Colin elucidates that Cai wants to raise money in memory of Seren by running 10k.   Britt maintains that she has a much better idea – something that really says ‘Seren’ – a ‘danceathon’.”

"Seren loved to dance"

Lleucu recalls that she loved to dance, and did a lot of it at Megan’s party;  Britt goes on, “Those who want to help can have a little ‘bop’ on a rota.”   Lleucu considers that a brilliant idea,

"I can't dance"

but on the other hand Cai points out that he cannot dance and feels very embarrassed.

Kelly is safely back home again

Kelly and Brynmor are back from their bike trip

"Amazing!"

and she describes it as, “Amazing!   Honestly, I wasn’t expecting something so ancient to be so thrilling!”

"Shall we have a look at that application form?"

He suggests that they have a look at the application form and Kelly really appreciates his help, describing him as a ‘legend’, which he rather likes.

She is getting to quite like the attention

He sits down to read the document and she looks quite pleased with herself.

Jinx is trying to calm Eleri . . .

Jinx is massaging Eleri’s head, with her dictating where he should apply pressure,

. . . until his fingers hurt

but by now his fingers are hurting.   Her phone sounds with another complaining Maes-y-Deri resident.   “Just five minutes – that’s all I ask!” she snarls.

"Do you have a Plan B?"

Jinx enquires whether she has a Plan B;

"Plan B is to kill the blinking newts!"

she replies that Plan B is to kill the blinking newts, so he wonders whether she could find another plot of land and build houses on that.

"I won't have houses ready in six months"

She predicts that would take ages, whining, “It doesn’t matter what I do – I won’t have houses ready in six months!”

"Have you discussed it with your father?"

“Have you discussed it with your father?” he asks and she says that he has threatened to find someone else to do the job.

"He would love to see me struggle and fail"

“He would love to see me struggle and fail – and I don’t want to give him that pleasure.”

"This is nothing to do with your ability"

Jinx points out that this is nothing to do with her ability, but she argues, “In his eyes, it’s all about that!”

Jinx regards it as an impossible situation;  if she talked to him, he might listen.

"Did you know that foxes eat newts?"

Out of the blue, she suddenly comes up with the question, “Did you know that foxes eat newts?”   He still advises that she should talk to her father, who might realise that what he wants is not realistic – she might as well try.

"It's an excellent idea"

Cai has gone to the MFC flat, now that he has had time to think about things and agrees that it is an excellent idea.   Britt will help him with the arrangements, of course, but he is worried about one thing;

"I don't want to do anything without Dani's permission"

“Dani – I don’t want to do anything without her permission.”

Britt promises that she will deal with Dani and he should not worry about her.   “Look, I know things haven’t been great between us recently,” he begins,

"This is not about us, is it?"

but she points out that this is not about them and offers him a coffee.

“Teachers live on coffee – you’ll be drinking gallons once you’re back at school,” she tells him,

"More parcels have arrived!"

but is interrupted by Colin coming in, complaining that more parcels have arrived.   He demands where the laptop is, and reports that a van full of parcels arrived this afternoon, so that the shop is crammed.

"Sending parcels isn't illegal, Col"

He is at the end of his tether, but Britt reminds him that sending parcels to the shop is not illegal.

"Right, I'll leave you to it"

Cai thinks that he had better leave them to it and Britt will phone him about the arrangements.

"I'm going to find out who it is!"

“Whoever is behind this ‘Parcel-Gate’ is taking advantage, Britt!” Colin shouts, “And I’m going to find out who it is!”

He searches for 'Toilet Trolls'

as he Googles for ‘Toilet Trolls UK’.

B has made some improvements to Kelly's CV

Brynmor strolls along the High Street with Kelly, who says, “I hardly recognise myself on that form,” but he insists that every word is true.

Someone passes with and LP

Then he notices that someone who walks past is carrying a Buddy Holly LP;

"I had that on vinyl as well . . ."

“I had that on vinyl as well.”

". . . and one of those"

Next he sees someone else carrying a clock, which looks very familiar,

Cassie and Kath are giving stuff away

plus a stall laid out in front of the Deri, with the sign, ‘Free to a good home’.

"They are my things!"

“What on earth?” he exclaims, “They are my things!   They’re worth money!   What do you think you’re doing?”

"We're getting rid of this tat"

“Getting rid of this tat,” Cassie replies.

Brynmor manages to retrieve one item

As he snatches something from a potential customer,

"This is revenge, isn't it?"

he snarls at Kath, “This is revenge, isn’t it?   For not helping Mark.”

"It's called 'Moving On', Brynmor"

She informs him that it is ‘Moving On’;  she cannot manage with his junk all over the place.

"Dad – in the flat, now!"

Just to add to his troubles, Eleri appears and would like a word with her father, but he tells her, “Not now, Eleri!”

However, she is insistent;  “In the flat – now!”

Kelly takes what he is holding

so Kelly takes charge of the couple of items which he has retrieved.

"Yo can't close the office whenever you want"

Back at Cysgod y Glyn, he reprimands his daughter that she should be at Tomos ac Ellis;  “You can’t close the office whenever you want.”

"I haven't invited you here for a lecture"

She says that she has not invited him there for a lecture, and he snarls that he is not there for a coffee, either.   “I’ve tried everything with those houses,” she informs him, so he regrets giving her the responsibility.

“I can’t help that newts appeared on the land!” she stresses,

"If  had done the job . . ."

but he maintains that this would not have happened if he had done the job.

"Of course it would!'"

“Of course it would – can we have a sensible conversation rather than fall out?” she demands.

"I really thought you had a better business brain"

“I really thought you had a better business brain than you’ve got – you needed to hear that!” he tells her, but she objects to him telling her that he knows better than she does.

"I do know better"

“I do know better – I’ve got years of experience,” he replies, so she insists that she also has.

"I never get a word of thanks!"

“I’ve put body and soul into this company – and for what?   I never get a word of thanks.”

"What do you want – flowers or champagne?"

“What do you want?   Flowers or champagne every time you win a contract?”

She is adamant that she wants her father to treat her as a partner and respect her opinion;

"It's never good enough"

“But no matter what I do, it’s never good enough –

"I'm leaving Quantum Hydro Works!"

“well, that’s going to stop – I’m leaving Quantum Hydro Works!”

"To do what, exactly?"

“To do what, exactly?” her father enquires.   She says that she has plans which she will not reveal, because it is none of his business.

He laughs and knows that she is not serious, because she needs him.

"Do you really believe that?"

“Wow – do you really believe that?”

"You've been lucky to have all the opportunities"

He points out that she has been lucky to have all the opportunities she has had,

"All you want to do is control me!"

“but she is adamant that all he wants to do is to control her.

“You don’t know that you’re doing it!” she shouts, “I’ve had enough!”

"And you're going to resign from Tomos ac Ellis as well?"

He assumes that she is also going to resign from Tomos ac Ellis as well,

"No"

but she draws the line at that.

"You're turning your back on everything!"

He stipulates, “Oh, no – if you’re turning your back on Quantum Hydro Works, you’re turning your back on everything!   Is that what you want?”

She takes the Tomos ac Ellis keys from her keyring

In answer, she throws down the office keys for Tomos ac Ellis in front of him;

"Good luck with everything, Dad"

“Good luck with everything, Dad,” she says and, after a few moments thought,

"You'll regret this"

he promises that she will regret it,

Brynmor leaves the flat

then leaves the flat.
