Dani walks forward

As everyone in the Deri stands silent, Dani walks forward towards Britt

"I'm so sorry, Dani"

and Cai says that he is sorry.

"You know, Seren loved dancing"

Dani replies, “You know, Seren loved dancing to ‘Shake it Off’.   She would play it on a loop and make up different dance routines.

"She'd be so chuffed you're doing this today"

“She’d be really chuffed that you were doing this today, so . . .”

Britt is handed the piggy bank . . .

She takes from her bag Seren’s piggy bank containing some money and hands it to Britt,

. . . which she finds quite overwhelming

which moves her to tears.   “Right, well,” says Britt, “I think we should all start dancing again,” so Rhys turns back on the music.

Two doors open simultaneously

The doors of number 7 and number 9 open at the same moment, with Kelly and Eleri emerging.

"Nice – copy or a rental?"

Eleri says, “Nice – copy or a rental?”

"Someone really kind and generous"

“Oh, this?” Kelly replies, “Someone really kind and generous bought it for me.”

Eleri knows who that was

Eleri turns to her father who is standing there, sighs and instructs ‘Huw’ to come with her.

"Who did buy the suit?'

Brynmor looks intrigued and wonders who did buy the suit for Kelly;  “Auntie Neet,” is the answer,

"I couldn't resist – sorry"

“But I couldn’t resist – sorry.”   Brynmor imagines that will cost him – but Eleri deserved it.

There is a stranger in the village

A stranger walks around the corner by the chapel, recognisable as the girl in the video which Rhys was looking at;  he comes across the street and notices her.

"You look a bit lost"

“You look a bit lost,” he tells her in English, “Can I help?”

"Wales is just too off grid"

“I love to travel, me – but Wales is just way too off grid.   I’m looking for my Ibiza Adonis.

"Mathew, dark, mysterious taxi driver"

“Mathew, dark, mysterious, taxi driver from Cwmderi – you don’t know him, do you?”

"I used to know him"

“Yes, I used to know him – he left the valley a while back now,” Rhys replies

"You don't have his number?"

and she wonders if he has Mathew’s number.   “I wouldn’t bother looking for him if I were you –

"He left under a bit of a cloud"

“he left under a bit of a cloud, to be honest, went to Swansea – population of around 250,000 – so, you know, good luck with that.”

Rhys tries so dissuade her

The girl needs a coffee and asks if Tamed is any good;  “No, unless you like it bitter,” he says in an effort to get rid of her,

"You're better off going to the next village"

“You’re better off going to the next village over.”

“Actually,” she continues, “I could do with something a bit stronger,”

She heads for the Deri

and she heads towards the Deri,

Rhys heads straight to the deli

while Rhys goes across to the deli where he has seen Sioned.   She is in a hurry and complains to her mother,  then turns to Rhys;  “She’s so slow!”

Rhys is interrupted

Rhys is about to tell her what has happened when Eileen interrupts to ask if Sioned likes the balloons.   “This is your idea of no fuss, is it?”

"The twins will never be one again, will they"

Eileen points out that the twins will never be one again, will they?   Then she enquires whether DJ has been in touch.

"I thought he might have sent a card"

Sioned replies that he has not;  she had thought that he might have sent a card.   Eileen will go and get the cake for the birthday party.

"I've forgotten what it was"

Now Rhys decides that he had better not say anything, maintaining that he has forgotten what he was intending to say,

Sioned does not entirely believe that

which rather puzzles Sioned.

Eileen has a large cake box

Eileen returns, carrying a large box,

"I said I wanted a small cake"

with Sioned complaining that she said she wanted a small cake.

Cai is flagging

The ‘danceathon’ continues, with Cai visibly flagging;

"Perhaps this will perk you up"

Britt hopes that a change of music will perk him up, although he is not sure that anything will help at this point.

"You need to mix the moves up"

Dani advises that he just needs to mix the moves up and gives a demonstration.

“Seren taught me this, if I can remember it.”   All the participants join in,

The stranger is quite impressed

with the stranger at the bar quite impressed by the atmosphere.

Mark is joining in . . .

Mark is getting into the swing of things,

. . . and so is Britt

as indeed is Britt.

Kelly arrives for her interview

Kelly arrives for her interview and, as there are a few vacant seats,

Kelly keeps away from Eleri

takes the one furthest away from Eleri,

"I hope you're au fait with the CQC"

who caustically comments, “I hope you’re au fait with the CQC.”

"You don't intimidate me!"

“Let’s get one thing straight,” Kelly tells her, “You don't intimidate me!”

"The interest of an older man makes you feel special"

Eleri is well aware of that, but wonders whether it is because Kelly is the type of woman who thinks having the interest of an older man makes her look special.

“For your information, you’re totally wrong,” Kelly goes on, glancing at the other interviewee, who is unfortunately sitting between the two of them.

"Your Dad is a real gentleman"

“You know, your dad is a real gentleman – he sees the best in people.   That’s why he pushed me to go for the job, because he could see I got a lot to offer and that I’m talented.”

"He felt sorry for you"

Eleri has other ideas;  “The only reason he did that was because he felt sorry for you – but he was right about one thing – you do have talent – a talent for running every business you own into the ground.

"I'm surprised you got an interview"

“I’m surprised you got an interview at all with your track record.”

Eleri is called

Eleri is called for her interview, with Kelly now feeling disheartened.   Of course, Eleri already knows the person who will interview her;  “Manon, I didn’t know you were on the board – what a nice surprise!”

"Don't eat anything now"

The twins’ birthday party is almost ready, and Howard says that it looks nice, but Sioned warns him not to eat anything now.

Rhys arrives

Rhys arrives, carrying birthday cards;  Howard reminds him that he was not invited

"You don't even like kids"

and does not even like kids.

"Am I that transparent?"

Sioned is quite well aware that he is only there for a slice of cake.

One of the children can be heard on the monitor, so she goes upstairs;

"Why are you gatecrashing?"

Rhys asks why Howard is not answering his phone, and he is asked why he is gatecrashing the party.

"Chantelle has landed in the village"

“Because Chantelle has landed in the village.   I tried to get rid of her, but now she’s in the Deri.”   Howard can see that he did not make a good job of getting rid of her.

“What if she talks to someone?”   Howard snarls that he will kill that Mathew.

"Are all pubs in Wales like this?"

Meanwhile, Chantelle wonders if all pubs in Wales are like this

"It's a fundraiser"

and Jinx enlightens her that it is a fundraiser.

"Missing the fitness routine of the post round?"

Mark is finding all the dancing rather strenuous, so Britt assumes that he is missing the fitness routine of the post round.

"They're getting loads of business"

Lleucu is telling one of her friends, “They’re getting loads of business – and if everyone is paying a £30 a head, they must be making a bomb.”

"What are you talking about?"

Mark overhears this and wants to know what they are talking about;  “I went to an escape room yesterday – it’s just opened in town.

"They're going to start special events"

“It’s doing so well, they’re going to start doing special events, like a Hallowe’en one – you know, we are zombies and ghosts and so on jump out at you.”

"People love it and tickets are selling fast"

Mark immediately sees a financial opportunity and wonders how much it costs to put one of those on.   Lleucu has no idea, but insists that they must be making a fortune.   “People love it and tickets are selling fast.”

He concludes, “I could frighten people for £30 a head as well!”

"You wouldn't need a mask or anything"

and she adds that he would have the advantage of not needing a mask or anything.

Rhys is tucking in already

Howard brings one of the twins downstairs and finds Rhys eating some of the cakes.   He is surprised that they are the only ones there,

"What were you expecting?"

so Howard wonders what he was expecting;  “Women, champagne and some surprise?”

Suddenly Mathew appears

Suddenly and unannounced, Mathew walks in;  “What’s this – a welcoming committee?” he asks.

"What's been going on, Math?"

Rhys wants to know what has been going on, but Mathew maintains that it does not matter because now he is there.

"Happy birthday, good boy"

“Happy birthday to you, good boy,” he says to Jac.

In answer to the demand why he has not been answering his phone, Mathew maintains that it is not working.

"While you were drunk in Ibiza with Chantelle?"

“Did you drop it while you were drunk in Ibiza with Chantelle?” Howard asks.

"She's here in the village"

Rhys reveals that she is looking for him;  “Chantelle – she’s here in the village.”

Howard wonders how Sioned will feel when she finds out – she deserves better than this;

"You have to tell Sioned"

“You have to tell her, Math, before someone else does.”

Sioned is speechless . . .

Sioned comes back downstairs, reporting that Lily has settled down,

. . . when she finds Mathew there

then stops in her tracks when she sees Mathew.

Eleri returns

After her interview, Eleri returns and Kelly enquires how she came to know Manon.

"Boardroom people occupy a small pool"

“Boardroom people occupy a small pool in Wales – oh, no, sorry, you wouldn’t know, would you?

"Good luck, anyway"

“Good luck, anyway.”

Kelly takes a deep breath

Then Kelly’s name is called and she takes a deep breath before rising from her seat.

The hooter marks the end of the danceathon'

In the Deri, Britt sounds the hooter for the end of the ‘danceathon ’.   Cai thanks all the participants, assuring them that he would not have been able to do it without them.

"Seren would have really enjoyed it"

Dani tells him that Seren would have really enjoyed it today and he would like to buy her a drink.   She is going now, but thanks him nevertheless.

Eileen brings refreshments

Eileen arrives with some food, but cannot stay as she does not want to miss the twins’ birthday party.

"Any news about Mathew?"

“Any news about Mathew?” asks Eileen, which attracts Chantelle’s attention.   Eileen replies that she has not heard anything, but it is his loss.

Howard talks tractors

Rhys and Howard are talking to baby Jac about tractors

"It's bit of a blur"

while Mathew tells Sioned, “It’s all a bit of a blur.”   She has been thinking all sorts of things, but insists that today is about Jac and Lili – and it means a lot that he is there.

"When did you get back"

Then Eileen walks in, and when she sees Mathew, she demands, “When did you get back?”   Sioned wants to cut the cake,

"You're going to welcome him back, just like that"

but her mother exclaims, “You’re going to welcome him back, just like that?”

"Don't ruin today, Mam"

Sioned urges her not to ruin today;  “He’s back and he’s safe – that’s what’s important.   There will be plenty of time for questions later.”

Eileen goes to play with Jac

She details Mathew to get the bubbly and wants to get a photo before they spill something over themselves.

Mark thinks that he could do something with this Hallowe’en thing, regarding it as a good opportunity to make some cash.

"You wouldn't know where to start"

“No offence – but you wouldn’t know where to start,” Lleucu tells him,

"Well, help me, then"

so he asks for her help, but she declines.

"Do you know a Mathew round here?"

Chantelle asks him, “Do you happen to know a Mathew who lives around here?”

"He lives at Penrhewl – well, sort of"

Mark replies that he lives up on Penrhewl farm – well, kind of.

She cannot get out of there fast enough

Suddenly she is in a hurry to leave the pub.

"It will take more than a bath"

Cai is ready to leave and Lleucu volunteers to run him a bath;  “It will take more than a bath to sort this old man out,” he groans.

"Do you want to share a takeaway?"

Dani comes back and asks if Cai wants to share a takeaway with her,

"Just to say thanks for today"

just to say thanks for today.

"That would be a lovely idea"

He replies that would be a lovely idea and thanks her.

Brynmor notices . . .

At that moment, Brynmor comes in and immediately notices that

. . . the champagne

in front of Eleri on the bar is a bottle of champagne, so he assumes that she got the job.

"There wasn't much competition"

“Not officially – but there wasn’t much competition,” she sneers.

When Jinx objects to this attitude, she continues, “Kelly had to Google some of the terms in the case study,” then turns to her father, “You should be ashamed, setting her up like that!”

Brynmor is very disappointed

Brynmor walks away

"You're ruthless – you know that?"

and Jinx calls her ‘ruthless’.

"The champagne is on ice"

Then her phone sounds, with the result of her interview, about which she is overwhelmingly confident;  “Hello – the champagne is on ice ready for me to start celebrating, I hope.”

Then her expression changes

However, it then appears that she is given some devastating news.

"I've just seen Eleri . . ."

Brynmor has gone to number 7 and tells Kelly, “I’ve just seen Eleri

". . . I'm sorry if I persuaded you"

“and I’m sorry if I persuaded you to do something you weren’t ready to do.   I honestly thought that you were more than able to do that job.”

"It looks as if you were right . . ."

“Well, it looks as if you were right,” agrees Kelly,

". . . they offered me the job!"

then advises him, with a shriek, “They offered me the job, Brynmor!”

He is dumbfounded

He cannot believe what he is hearing, and Kelly laughingly confirms, “I know – they thought I was really compassionate.   They loved my ideas about how to keep the residents motivated.

"OK – I bluffed a bit"

“OK, I bluffed the bit about costings and stuff, so they might get a shock, but . . .”

Brynmor asks if she has accepted and she announces that she starts the week after next.

"That's great, Kelly!

He is delighted to hear it,

"Me – manager of Brynawelon!"

while Kelly exclaims, “I can’t believe it – I mean, me – the manager of Brynawelon!

"What the hell, like?"

“What the hell, like?”

"Of all the girls in Ibiza . . ."

On the sofa at Penrhewl, Rhys demands, “Of all the girls in Ibiza, you had to go for the one who would go viral to find you.”

"You shouldn't have touched another woman"

Howard tells Mathew that he should not have touched another woman, as Sioned has been worried sick.   Rhys adds that she has not been the only one.

"What the hell were you thinking?"

“What the hell were you thinking?” says Howard,

"Can you help me settles the twins?"

then Sioned walks in and asks Mathew to help her to settle the twins.   She would like them to read the book that Siôn bought them.

"They like it when I explain about the silage"

Howard maintains that they like it when he explains to them how to do the silage;  that sends them straight to sleep.   “It’s not just me that has missed you,” Sioned assures Mathew.

He is about to go

However, as he is about to go upstairs with her, an English voice can be heard,

"Am I in the right place?"

saying, “Hiya – am I in the right place?”   When she enters the room, she adds, “It seems as though I am.   Mathew, what’s this all about?”

"Who exactly are you?"

Sioned asks her, in English, “Who exactly are you?”

"The girl he's been sharing a hot tub with in Ibiza"

She is told, “I’m the girl he’s been sharing a hot tub with for a week in Ibiza – who the hell are you?”

Sioned is understandably shocked . . .

Sioned looks at Mathew,

. . . but Mathew remains silent

who does not say anything.

"Who would have thought it?"

As they eat their takeaway at Y Felin, Dani comments, “Who would have thought it?”

"I'm glad things are not as they were"

Cai is very glad that things are not as they were and she insists that it is important to look to the future now.   He has received a letter to say that his sick leave is coming to an end, so he has to decide whether he wants to go back to teaching or not.

"What do you think I should do?"

“What do you think I should do?” he asks, “You’ve set up your own business which is very successful.”

"Cleaning is therapy for me"

She regards cleaning as a therapy for her, while he thinks of gardening in a similar way, so she encourages him to do it.   He could set up his own business,

"I could get paid for my own therapy"

then he could get paid for his own therapy.

He has no idea how to set a company up and she jokes, “They don’t teach much at that school, do they?   I can show you the basics,

"The important thing is to follow your heart"

“but the important thing is just to follow your heart.”

Eileen takes charge

Eileen takes over things at Penrhewl;  “I don’t care how far you’ve come –

"Your'e not welcome here, OK?"

“you’re not welcome here, OK?”

"You never mentioned anything about a family"

Chantelle protests that he never mentioned anything about having a family.

"You want to be with her, so go!"

Sioned comes to the conclusion that Mathew wants to be with Chantelle, so tells him to go, but he argues that he does not want to be with her.

"Why are you here?   It was nothing!"

“Why are you here?” he demands, “It was nothing!”   She informs him that she has given Brad the ring back,

"Wow!"

which Howard regards as something very important.

“Mathew, please,” begs Chantelle;

"I'm sorry"

he is sorry and Sioned realises that this is not her fault,

"I'll get you a taxi"

offering to get her a taxi.

"I'll get one myself!"

“I’ll get one myself!” she snarls.

"There you are then – off you pop!"

“There you are, then – off you pop!” says Eileen, but Rhys points out that Chantelle was breaking her heart.   “Since when did you care about women’s feelings?” Eileen growls.

"I'm so sorry, Sioned"

Mathew tells Sioned that he is so sorry,

"Is that all you can say?"

but Howard is outraged that is all he can say is sorry.

"Can you all leave now, please?"

Sioned asks if they can all leave now, so they do,

No doubt about what Eileen thinks of Mathew

with Eileen directing a particularly sour look at Mathew.

"I've never felt shame like this before"

Then Sioned addresses Mathew;  “You listen – you know what?   I’ve found myself in a few difficult situations in my life.   But I’ve never felt shame like that before, ever.

"What did you tell her?"

“What did you tell her?   She obviously thought you had some kind of future – she’s cancelled her wedding!”

"I didn't ask her to do that"

He replies that he did not ask her to do that,

"What can she give you that I can't?"

and Sioned pleads, “What can she give you that I can’t?   You haven’t touched me for weeks,

"Shack up with some randommer!"

“but you were more than happy to go to Ibiza and shack up with some randomer!”

"It wasn't like that!"

He answers that it was not like that,

"Why are you back here?"

but Sioned continues, “You can’t treat people like that!   Look at you – you’re in a hell of a state and you’ve destroyed everything.   Why are you back here?

"Why did you come back, Math?"

“Why did you come back, Math?”

"To see you ø to sort things out"

“To see you – to sort things out.”   She goes to the drawer and takes out the envelope,

She gives him the envelope . . .

which she thrusts into his hand;  “Your mother wanted you to have this,” she tells him,

. . . then goes upstairs

then walks out of the room.
