Colin arrives

It is the day for Cai to return home and Colin comes to visit Lleucu, who is making final preparations, arranging flowers in a vase.   

"Remember – cool head"

He tells her to calm down.   “I just want everything to be right,” she insists and Colin agrees that everything is perfect. 

"Today's important – a new start"

“Today is important – a new start,” she goes on.

Kelly looks at the application form

Kelly is studying the Brynawelon application form 

"Manager of Brynawelon?"

when Anita creeps up behind her and exclaims, “Manager of Brynawelon?” 

Kelly is alarmed

which causes Kelly some alarm.

“How long have you been there?” she demands 

"Are you going to try for the job?"

and Anita cannot believe that she is going to try for the job.   “I’ve arranged a chat with the outgoing manager,” Kelly replies, 

"Do you know what?"   Stupid idea!"

“Do you know what?   Stupid idea – I’m going to phone to cancel.”

"You might as well have a chat with them"

Anita stops her from doing that, as she might as well have a chat with them.   Kelly says that it is tempting, “For, like, ten nanoseconds – do you know what?   I don’t have any qualifications, so . . .”

"I can't think of anyone better"

Anita cannot think of anyone better to look after an old peoples home, 

"You're biased, Auntie Neet!"

but is accused of being biased;  “And I don’t think the panel will agree with you!”   Anita tells her to go and have a chat with them, in any case, 

"Then you can decide afterwards"

then she can decide afterwards.

"No, there's nothing worse than cold chips"

In MFC, Britt is fielding another complaint about cold chips;  “No, there’s nothing worse than cold chips – next time I’ll make sure you get hot chips for free!”   

Gwern has just come in

At that moment, Gwern comes in, so she tells him what the customer said;  

"Mags, Pen y Graig"

“There won’t be a next time – Mags, Pen y graig.”

"Have you seen the hill up to Pen y Graig?"

Gwern complains, “Have you seen the hill up to Pen y graig?   It takes ages to cycle.”   

"Perhaps we should stop delivering"

Britt thinks that they should stop delivering, as that is the third complaint they have had about cold chips.   He insists that once you start offering a service, you cannot cancel it.   People will sulk and go elsewhere, but Britt cannot see that they have much choice.

"I'm not too young to have a motorbike"

“There’s one thing we can do,” he suggests, “I know I’m too young to learn to drive a car, but I’m not too young to have a motorbike.”   

"You can get that idea out of your head!"

Britt flatly refuses that he is going to have one of those, so he can get that idea out of his head right now.

Cai is home at Y Felin . . . 

Lleucu welcomes her father back to Y Felin;  he looks around but does not say anything.   

. . . with Lleucu eager to get him something

She offers him a cup of tea, or some breakfast, 

"I'm OK"

but he says that he is OK.   

Colin brings in his bags

Colin brings in his bags as Lleucu continues that she has been shopping and everything is there.

"Why don't you take them upstairs?"

Colin suggests that Cai could take his bags upstairs and get settled in.   

"Remember what I said – Cool head"

When Cai has done that, Colin turns to Lleucu;  “Remember what I said, all right?   Cool head.”

She insists that her father is being weird;  

"Are you sure he wants to be home?"

“He wasn’t like this last week – are you sure he wants to be home?”   Colin points out that it is a big step for him, so she must give him time.

"Just think that today is no different"

“Just think that today is no different to all the other times he’s been home” Colin advises, 

"I have to make sure he stays this time`'

but she is worried because she has to make sure that he stays this time.

Anita is watching television

Anita is watching the television when Kelly is ready to go to Brynawelon;  

"Are you sure you don't want to come?"

“Are you sure you don’t want to come with me?”   Anita insists that she can look after herself, asking why Kelly is going to Brynawelon.   

"To see the manager about a job"

“To see the manager about a job,” is the reply.

“Oh, yes – you’re going to run the home.”   Kelly maintains that she is just going for a chat 

"We can go to Tamed on the way back"

and adds that they can go to Tamed on the way back for a drink and a cake, which sounds good to Anita.

This changes Anita's mind

“Come on, then – chop shop – get your skates on!” Kelly encourages her, “Did you know they do day groups there?”

"Hang on – this is a trick'

Now Anita suspects that Kelly has an ulterior motive;  “Hang on – I know what this is now – it’s a trick – you’re going to cart me off to Brynawelon!”   

"I'm going to see about a job"

Kelly reiterates that she is just going to see the manager about a job;  

"You will dump me there!"

“And before I turned around, you will have dumped me there!”   

Kelly points out that she would not do something like that and would not hide it from her auntie.

"I'm not falling into that trap!"

Anita takes off her coat again, declaring, “No, I’m not falling into that trap!” so is told that she can stay at home and they can go to Tamed when she comes back.   

"Mind you don't leave the house"

Kelly instructs her not to leave the house, 

She decides she will go after all

so then Anita changes her mind again, puts on her coat and will go with Kelly in the car.

"Neither of my feet are going to walk into that place!"

She is adamant, “But neither of my feet are going to walk into that place!   

This becoming a little taxing

“Come on.”

Colin is snowed under with dropped-off parcels

Apparently, the idea of parcels being dropped off at the shop is becoming rather unmanageable, but Britt has another problem;  “Gwern has started to talk about having a motorbike.”

"I don't think he can be trusted with one of them"

Colin does not think that he can be trusted with one of them;  “The speed they go compared to pedal bikes or electric bikes!   

"Colin Evans, you're a genius!"

Britt suddenly exclaims that he is a genius.   “It’s not every day I hear that,” Colin muses.

“An electric bike – we can get one of those for what?   £500?   

Britt has it all worked out

“We could pay half as part of the business and then Gwern can use it.  Win-win!”   she is accused of spoiling that boy, but replies that she does not have anyone else left.

"Electric bike, Gwern!"

is passing at that moment, so she explains her idea to him;  

"Do I have any choice?"

he wonders whether he has any choice.

"Are you sure you want to be here?"

Kelly arrives at Brynawelon, followed by Anita, who;  “Are you sure you want to be here?” Kelly checks, 

"I want to look around"

but is told that Anita wants to look around.

"I'll be in there"

“I won’t be long and I’ll be in there,” Kelly tells her;  

"Good heavens – Anita Pierce!"

then a familiar figure from several years ago walks in, Iori, who is surprised to see Anita.   “Well, good heavens, Anita Pierce.”   

Anita does not remember him

Anita does not remember him.

“Have I offended you somehow?” he asks, 

"You're acting like you're sitting on a spike"

“Why are you acting like you’re sitting on a spike, then?   Did you know I’ve lost Brenda?”  

"She must be around the place somewhere"

Anita is sure that she must be around the place somewhere, but is corrected by Iori that she ran away with a banker.   

"Do you fancy going for a cup of tea?"

“Do you fancy going for a cup of tea and having a catch up?”   Anita does not like the sound of that and is suspicious of him.

"Is it gold?"

In the shop, Colin and Mark are looking at the necklace, with Colin asking if it is gold;  

"Of course it's gold!"

“Of course it’s gold!   Brynmor’s grandmother's grandmother, who came back from America.”

“The gold rush, was it?” says Colin, 

"That's worth a thousand or two, guaranteed!"

“That’s worth a thousand or two, guaranteed.”   Mark maintains that you can add another zero or two to that, which comes as quite a shock to Colin, who wants to know what he is going to do with it.

"You can't put something like that on eBay"

“Sell it,” answers Mark, but his told that he cannot put something like that on eBay.   

"I'm going to get it valued . . ."

Mark intends to get it valued by someone who knows their stuff.  Colin does not know many people in Cwmderi who know their jewels, 

. . . and I know the very person

but Mark is under the impression that he knows the very person.

He slaps Colin's hand

As Colin goes to touch the necklace, he is slapped by Mark.

Kelly cannot find Anita

Kelly comes out from her ‘informal chat’ but can see no sign of Auntie Anita;  

"Anita didn't want to know me"

then she notices Iori who wants to know if Anita is with her.   “She didn’t want to know me.”

"More like she doesn't remember you"

“More like she doesn’t remember you,” Kelly explains and at that moment Anita reappears.

"I joined the day group . . ."

“You don’t have to worry about me – I joined the day group – 

". . . there's better company in there!"

“there’s better company there than here!”   Kelly informs her that he is Iori;  “Yes, he keeps saying that,” says Anita.

"No, I'm not!"

Kelly continues that he used to live in Cwmderi and Iori asks if Anita is moving into Brynawelon.   She is adamant that she is not, but he says that it is not as bad as she thinks;  

"It's a bit like Llangrannog"

“It’s a bit like Llangrannog.”

Anita is eager to get away from him, so off they go.

Cai is very quiet . . .

Cai is sitting on the sofa, staring into space;  Lleucu asks him what he would like to do, then volunteers to make some pasta or pizza.

He does not seem to mind, one way or the other.   Her next suggestion is to go to the Deri and he says he is sorry.   

"Is something wrong?"

She is worried that something is wrong.

"I feel under pressure, being back here"

He admits, “I feel under pressure, being back here,” 

"Am I putting pressure on you""

so she fears that she is putting pressure on him.   He insists that it is his problem;  “I found a way to deal with the pressure over the last few months, 

"It's a bit different now I'm home"

“but it’s a bit different now I’m home – and not just for the day, but for ever.”

"You're home – that's what's important"

She reminds him that he is home now and that is what is important;  

"Then we can go for a run"

she promises that there will  be no more questions.   “I’ll make a sandwich, then we can go for a run.”   

"I haven't had a run for ages"

When he protests that he has not had a run for ages, she agrees to go as slowly as he wants – 

"One step at a time"

“One step at a time.”

The parcels are now overflowing to the flat

Colin has brought home some of the boxes as there is no room at the shop and he tells Britt that this ‘drop-off’ business is non-stop.

"Gwern has seen a bike on the internet"

She announces that Gwern has seen a bike on the internet, but it costs over £1,000;  she told him that they would think about it. 

"You shouldn't have done that!"

“Britt, you shouldn’t have done that!” he groans, but she maintains that she promised half of it. 

"It's a unicycle, is it?"

“Oh, it’s a unicycle, is it?” he jokes, but reprimands her for being rash.

“You know who should pay for it, don’t you?” he continues, but Britt flatly refuses to ask Garry.   

"I've got a better idea"

However she says that she has a better idea.

Mark has called Iori to value the necklace

Mark has very naïvely called in Iori to value the necklace;  “I’m hoping this will help me stay out of jail,” he says, “And find somewhere tidy to live when this place is flooded.   

"Not that you can put a price on memories"

“Not that you can put a price on memories, of course – I’ll miss this place.”

"Twenty"

Iori finally delivers his verdict;  “Twenty.” 

"What, thousands?"

“Thousand, you mean,” assumes Mark, but is told that the necklace is worth £20.   

"Someone saw you coming!"

“Whoever told you this is worth something saw you coming!” sneers Iori 

"Brynmor blinkin' Richards!"

and Mark is very scathing about Brynmor ‘blinkin’ Richards.

"What am I going to do, Iori?"

“What am I going to do, Iori?” Mark wails.   (Suggestion:  get a second opinion?)

Back, after an exhausting run

Lleucu and her father are back from their run, pretty much exhausted;     Cai complains that he is so unfit.   When Lleucu asks if he is all right, he replies, “I don’t know if ‘all right’ is the word – 

"Fantastic – exactly what I needed!"

“because that was fantastic!   Exactly what I needed – healthy body, healthy mind – thanks, Lleucu.   

"I'm glad you agreed to let, me come home"

“I’m so glad you agreed to let me come home,” 

Although he is feeling some after-effects

although his leg is obviously giving him some pain.

"Keys to Garry's lock-up"

Britt throws down some keys on the table, explaining, “Keys to Garry’s lock-up.   We’re going to sell the stuff.”

Colin is not keen

Colin does not like the sound of that, anxious that Garry will not be happy about it.   

"There's nothing of value there"

She reckons that there is nothing of any value in there, 

"You won't get anything for it, then"

so Colin imagines that she will get nothing for it.

"We'll sell it all as a job lot"

She proposes that they sell the contents of the lock-up as a job lot;  “Auction the the storage contents – people pay loads for that junk – everyone thinks there’s treasure hiding in there.”   Colin laughs that there are some idiots about.

Gwern has just come in

Gwern has just come in 

"Did you see the details of that bike?"

and asks whether Britt saw the details of that bike he sent.   

"We're just working out some details"

She says that they are working out some details before ordering 

"You'll be flying up Pen y Graig!"

and predicts that he will be flying up to Pen y Graig without breaking a sweat.

"The job seemed all right"

In the deli, Kelly tells Anita that the job seemed all right;  “Loads of interaction with people,” 

"Well, go for it, then"

so she is advised to go for it.

"It's a huge responsibility"

“Oh, I don’t know – it’s a huge responsibility, Auntie Neet,” but she is told that she can manage that.   “I don’t have any experience with that sort of paperwork.”   

"What's the worst they can do?   Turn you down."

Anita is confident she will not be doing it on paper, “And what’s the worst they can do?   Turn you down.”    She adds that the day club looked good;  she had a good chat with them.   

"There were a few characters there"

“There were a few characters in there, to be honest – some of them not much older than me.”   

"You have a young heart"

Kelly tells her that she has a young heart.

“There’s a nice feel to the place – not like you’d imagine an old people’s home to be.   But I can’t imagine living there.”

"You don't have to think about that"

She is reassured that she does not have to think about that – she has time.   

"Time is what I don't have"

Anita on the other hand maintain that time is what she does not have;  

"I don't know what's happening to me"

“I can’t explain – I don’t know what’s happening to me, Kelly – I’m worried – 

"Where is Anita going?"

“where is Anita going?”

"Stop – I understand"

Kelly is almost in tears as she urges Anita to stop;  “I understand.”
