"A cup of coffee would be nice, Mark" |
Garry is waking up on the sofa at number 9, as Mark is making breakfast for Cassie; “A cup of coffee would be nice,” he says.
![]() |
"How long are you planning to be sofa-surfing?" |
Mark wants to know how long he plans to be sofa surfing there;
![]() |
"There isn't enough room as it is!" |
“There isn’t enough room here as it is, without you being in the way!”
![]() |
"I never had you down down as a 'Cougar Hunter'!" |
Garry says that he never had Mark down as a ‘Cougar Hunter’, but is assured that he and Cassie understand each other.
“And if you hadn’t landed here . . .” he continues,
![]() |
"That sofa is not the best" |
but then she comes downstairs, wondering how Garry slept, as the sofa is not the best. He asks about the condition of her head, and she is anxious for a cup of coffee,
![]() |
"It's on its way, Cas" |
which Mark tells her is on the way.
“No sugar for me,” Garry stipulates,
![]() |
"A lot has been going on since I've been away!" |
then remarks to Cassie, “Well, a lot has been going on since I’ve been away!” She makes it perfectly clear that nothing is going on; “Tell the butler that!” he grins.
![]() |
"Sorry, there's not enough water for yours" |
Mark brings in her breakfast of coffee, toast and a couple of paracetamol, then apologises that there was not enough water in the kettle to make Garry a cup.
![]() |
"Feet off the furniture, Ger!" |
![]() |
"We have to trust Tes" |
and Jaclyn replies that they have to trust her, but his answer to this is, “I’d trust Donald Trump more than her!”
There is a knock at the door
![]() |
His mother is back again |
and his mother walks in, looking very sour and leaves the door open.
![]() |
"Nefi wen! Going away, are you?" |
“Nefi wen!” exclaims Gerwyn, and, noticing her bag, asks, “Going away again, are you?”
![]() |
"The café's just over the road, Mam" |
![]() |
"Cup of tea, two sugars, Brenda?" |
but Jaclyn is more conciliatory.
Gerwyn informs his mother, “You’re lucky that Jaclyn offered, after the way you talk about her these days.
![]() |
"Throw her out if she gives you too much lip! |
I have to go, sorry – Jacs, throw her out if she gives you too much lip!”
Jaclyn presumes that things are no better at home,
![]() |
"I've moved out" |
and Brenda advises that she has moved out; conscious of what will be coming next, Jaclyn is sure that things are not that bad;
![]() |
"Where will you go?" |
“Where will you go?”
![]() |
"Well, Guto's moved out, hasn't he?" |
Her mother-in-law reminds her that Guto has moved out, so she has to adopt extreme measures.
![]() |
"Iori was terribly upset the other night!" |
“Iori was terribly upset the other night in the Deri – he blamed himself for the lies – he hates the fact it’s affecting your relationship!”
![]() |
"Was he?" |
It appears that Brenda is being taken in by this, and Jacqueline goes on, “I felt so sorry for him, especially when he started to cry – like a baby. He was worried that the marriage was over – ‘both as stubborn as each other’ according to him. There’s no need to throw it all away so quickly, is there? But I don’t want to interfere – it happens to some, doesn’t it?”
![]() |
"I'm pretty sure that worked" |
As she walks back into the kitchen, there is a smile on Jaclyn’s face.
![]() |
"Dani's a bit touchy at the moment" |
In the café, Tyler apologises for dragging Aled there, but is told that the food was lovely. “Dani’s a bit touchy at the moment,” Tyler says, “And I don’t want to tread on her toes.”
![]() |
Aled wants to go away somewhere |
Aled is unable to offer anything better, complaining that the walls in his flat are paper-thin; he would like to go away somewhere, just the two of them,
![]() |
"We shall just have to dodge Dani for now" |
but Tyler cannot afford a hotel on his wages, so they will just have to dodge Dani for now.
![]() |
"I want a break from Mam and Dad" |
As Tyler is leaving, Tesni comes in and sits down on the sofa; “I want a break from Mam and Dad, so don’t you start,” she tells Aled, “Mam will start following me into the toilet any minute!”
![]() |
"Sorry I put my foot in it, Tes" |
Aled is sorry for putting his foot in it, and she concedes that she went to far; joining him at the table, she asks about the latest gossip.
![]() |
"Trying to avoid Dani Monk" |
“Trying to avoid Dani Monk,” he says, and Tesni would not like to cross her.
![]() |
"Seren came in, looking for her hippo" |
“Well, last night, me and Tyler were on the sofa and . . . you know . . . Then I noticed that Teddy was in the corner, staring at us – next thing, Seren came in, looking for her hippo.”
![]() |
This amuses Tesni |
Tesni laughs, and he continues that they literally have nowhere to go – there is no privacy to be had in the village.
![]() |
"Just one night, just him and me" |
“I just want to be alone with him – cook a romantic meal, perhaps. Just one night, just him and me,” he groans,
![]() |
Tesni comes up with an idea |
and she comes up with the idea that they could go to her house
“Why not?” she asks, but Aled cannot see Tyler in her mother’s dressing gown. “Have you had a better offer?” she demands, “I’ll take them out for an early dinner – I’ve got some grovelling to do, anyway – and the house will be empty for hours.”
![]() |
"The dog, the sprogs – and a hippo!" |
He is dubious about this, but she comments, “Good luck with seducing Tyler – with his sister, the dog – and the sprogs – and a hippo around the place!”
![]() |
She gives him the house keys |
She places the house keys on the table.
![]() |
"You must have a lot to catch up on in the garage" |
Mark wants to get rid of Garry; “You must have a lot to catch up on today, in the garage.” Then he is reminded that Gerwyn will be there, so instead suggests the Deri.
![]() |
"Dani will be doing cartwheels because I'm back!" |
“Yeah, Dani will be doing cartwheels because I’m back!” Garry laughs.
![]() |
"Haven't you got any post to deliver?" |
Cassie wonders if Mark has any post to deliver, but is told he has a day off, and will be window cleaning later.
“Why don’t you go for a walk? Garry and I need to discuss something,” she tells him,
![]() |
"None of your business, Mark!" |
and when he wants to know what that is, Garry comments that it is not his business.
![]() |
". . . in case you want to . . . try again" |
Mark finally takes the hint, and as he is leaving, Garry informs him, “I’m going to be working late tonight, in case you want to . . . try again!”
![]() |
Cassie is not amused |
Cassie looks reproachfully at him, but he points out, “You could do worse than Mark Jones –
![]() |
"A lifetime supply of free stamps!" |
“a lifetime supply of free stamps!” What she wants to know is why Dylan is messing around with Dani, while Sara is organising their wedding.
Garry emphasises that Dylan knows exactly what he is doing, as he puts on his jacket,
![]() |
"Dog dirt on someone's shoe" |
and Cassie describes Dylan as, “Dog dirt on someone’s shoe! I hope you’re not going to do something stupid.”
![]() |
"You'll find out soon" |
Garry replies that she will soon find out.
![]() |
"I assume you've heard then?" |
Iori arrives at number 10, apparently in a very troubled mood; “I assume you’ve heard, then?
![]() |
"What am I going to do, Jaclyn?" |
“What am I going to do, Jaclyn? I’ve said sorry for this mess.”
![]() |
"She's barely talking – and crying" |
Jaclyn reminds him that she and her mother-in-law have a fractious relationship, “But I don’t like to see her suffering either. She’s not eating – barely talking – and when she does, she just starts to cry.”
![]() |
"Barely talking? You're pulling my leg!" |
![]() |
"She can't stand carrying on like this" |
“She said she couldn’t stand carrying on like this.”
This has had the intended effect, as he looks very fearful, but once again Jaclyn maintains that she does not like to interfere, but it would be a shame if they threw it all away.
![]() |
Another good performance |
Once more, she looks quite pleased with her performance.
![]() |
"You're in a good mood today, Mark" |
Window cleaning at the shop, Tyler comments that Mark is in a good mood today; “You’re not always like this – something’s changed.

![]() |
Kath is trying to ingratiate herself with Mark |
He denies any such thing, and then his mother appears from the alley; “There isn’t a lot of work going on here,” she says, “I heard you were both here,
![]() |
"Salmon and mayonnaise sandwiches" |
“so I brought you some lunch – salmon and mayonnaise sandwiches, just as you like them, a few ginger nuts and some crisps – and an apple – one of your five a day.”
![]() |
Mark is not impressed |
Mark knows exactly what is going on here and thanks her rather unenthusiastically. “No hard feelings, then?” she enquires,
![]() |
"How are you settling in?" |
and asks how he is settling in. He replies that it is nice to be here in the village,
![]() |
"That's where all the action is!" |
and Tyler adds that is where all the action is.
“It’s nice to see you smile on your face,” Kath tells him, “Enjoy your lunch, boys.”
![]() |
Mark is not saying anything |
Tyler is still determined to find out what is going on with Mark.
![]() |
Tesni puts her plan into action |
Tesni has gone to the garage, followed by Aled; her father asks where she was this morning and says she is becoming a stranger.
![]() |
"He's knocked some sense into me" |
“I just met Aled in the café – to tell you the truth, he’s knocked some sense into me. I went too far, Dad, I realise that now.”
![]() |
"What came over you, Tes?" |
Gerwyn wonders what came over her, and she promises she will not do anything like that again.
![]() |
"What if we went for a meal?" |
“What if you, me and Mam went out for a meal later – the three of us? What do you say?” Her father knew she was up to something,
![]() |
"I expect I shall be paying?" |
and presumes that he will be paying for the meal.
![]() |
They run away quite happily |
Both Tesni and Aled are very pleased with the way this has turned out.
![]() |
"He's stopped buying fresh pastries" |
In the Deri, Brenda is telling Kath her tale of woe; “He’s stopped buying fresh pastries every Friday morning, too.” Kath points out that they are not cheap,
![]() |
"It's a bit drastic to leave because of it" |
but it is a bit drastic to leave because of that. “We’re arguing all the time!” Brenda goes on, and Cassie remarks that the honeymoon period is over.
![]() |
"I don't like to think of him crying" |
“Jaclyn said he was terribly upset – I don’t like to think of him crying,” Brenda whimpers,
![]() |
Then Iori appears, with flowers |
but then the door opens and Iori, complete with flowers, comes in.
![]() |
"I'd be lost without you, Brenda" |
“Don’t leave – I’d be lost without you!” he exclaims, “Listen, Brenda, we’ve both made mistakes in the past, haven’t we? Well, I have, anyway – but this time I was extremely stupid!”
![]() |
"You're telling me it was extreme!" |
Kath remarks, “You’re telling me it was extreme!”
![]() |
"We're partners, like Bonnie and Clyde" |
Iori continues, “But the point is, we did it together, didn’t we? So we have to face it together. We’re partners, Brend – like Bonnie and Clyde – say that you forgive me.”
![]() |
"Of course I will" |
After a pause, she assures him that she does, and invites him to come and sit with her.
![]() |
Kath makes her feelings on the matter quite clear |
Kath’s reaction to this touching scene is to make a vomiting noise, and Cassie can see she is not a fan of romance. “Not when its shoved right under my nose, no,” is the response,
![]() |
"The problem is other people's romance" |
and Cassie says the problem is other people’s romance.
“Don’t you fancy another man in your life?” she asks, “There’s plenty of room in that house.”
![]() |
"I could do with some quantity" |
Kath is not at all interested, but admits that she could do with some company.

"I haven't seen such a big smile on his face for ages" |
In the Deri, Kath is still chatting with Cassie; “Like I told you before, I wasn’t keen at the start – it’s odd to think your son wants to share a house with an older woman. But I haven’t seen such a big smile on his face for ages! What do you do to make him so happy? But there we are –
![]() |
"If Mark's happy, I'm happy" |
“if Mark’s happy, I’m happy.”
![]() |
"Mark fancies me, but I don't feel the same way" |
Cassie clearly points out, “Mark fancies me but I don’t feel the same way.”
![]() |
"You're old enough to be his mother!" |
Kath’s mood changes in an instant; “What? Are you telling me that Mark fancies you? You’re old enough to be his mother!” Cassie stresses that nothing will happen, and is told, “You’re right there, Mrs Robinson!
![]() |
"Keep your filthy hands off my son!" |
“Keep your filthy hands off my son, understand?” She rushes out of the Deri.
![]() |

![]() |
"Iori's lovely!" |
Tesni is happy for her grandmother, maintaining that Iori is lovely.
Jaclyn proposes that they should go home now, but Tesni is anxious that should not happen, emphasising that they have not yet had pudding.
![]() |

This news upsets Tesni and she argues that her father has been drinking; Jaclyn tells him to go home first and change his shirt, as she does not want him to get oil on it.
He has a pair of overalls in the car, and will see them later;
![]() |
"Enjoy the cheesecake" |
he leaves some money to pay the bill and hopes they enjoy the cheesecake.
![]() |

He anxiously asks whether they get on, and she confirms that they do.
![]() |
"It was nice – until Garry turned up" |
“The heart to heart over the Prosecco was nice – until Garry turned up!” he says, but she admits that she had too much to drink.
![]() |
"Can't we just wait and see what happens?" |
“Can’t we just wait and see how things go?” he pleads, “It doesn’t have to be serious – ‘friends with benefits’, perhaps.”
“I don’t know how to say this without hurting your feelings, but I’m going to say it –
![]() |
"Of course we can be friends . . ." |
“the answer is no,” Cassie states, “Of course we can be friends –
![]() |

![]() |
"It's time to go now" |
![]() |
"Let's just have one more drink, Mam" |
but Tesni suggests that they have one more drink, as her father will not be back for hours. “No, he just texted – the guy phoned and the car has just started,” her mother reveals, and Tesni immediately runs out of the Deri.

![]() |
"How will you pay – prostituting yourself again?" |
Her father wonders where she will get the money to do so; “By prostituting yourself again?”
![]() |
"No wonder Mam had an affair!" |
She maintains she will do anything so she does not have to live with him; “No wonder Mam had an affair – I don’t blame her!”
