An idyllic winter scene in Cwmderi

We see Penrhewl farm, with smoke rising from the chimney;  inside Sioned has been preparing a celebration,

"We're having a picnic inside"

and when DJ comes in she announces, “We’re having a picnic.   As it’s a bit cold outside, we’re having a picnic inside – surprise!”

"I'm supposed to be working"

He protests that he should be working, and Sioned informs him that her mother has given him the day off;

"Mam didn't have much choice"

“She didn’t have much choice –I told her that we are having a picnic today and that’s that.’

She excitedly takes a selfie

She encourages him to sit down and takes a selfie of the pair of them.

"I look awful – like a pug!"

When DJ sees the finished result, he complains, “I look awful – I look like a pug!”

"You don't – you look gorgeous"

Sioned reprimands him, and is of the opinion that he is gorgeous.   She will put the photo on Instagram with a lot of hearts round it.

They settle down for their picnic

He looks down at the food spread out,

"Where did all these come from?"

and wonders where all the sachets of mayonnaise came from.   “I always take a handful when I go to the Deri or the café,” she says, “It’s not stealing – you’re supposed to help yourself – everybody does it.”

DJ points out that one should only take enough for the meal;

"You stash them away like a squirrel with nuts!"

“Not stash them away like a squirrel with nuts!”

"No mayonnaise for you, then!"

She replies that there will be no mayonnaise for him today, in that case.

"Sorry I can't come with you, Sara"

As Dylan and Sara come out of Hywel’s house, he apologises that he cannot come with her to see her cousin;  “If you change your mind, I’m leaving at three,” she tells him,

He is always 'busy'

but as usual he makes the excuse that he is busy.   “Ifan and I will have a nice time anyway,” she adds, and then Dylan notices one of the properties in the window of Tomos ac Ellis.

"Is that Llwyncelyn?"

“Is that Llwyncelyn?” he asks, and Sara is furious that it has already been sold,

"Gaynor promised!"

having been promised by Gaynor that they could make an offer before she put it on the market.   He shrugs his shoulders;  “There will be other houses,” but Sara is most aggrieved.

Dylan takes a crafty look at who is calling him

Dylan’s phone sounds, and he surreptitiously looks at it while Sara continues looking in the estate agent’s window.

It is Aled . . .

As he might have expected, it is another call from Aled, which he ignores.

. . . who is watching from up above

Up in the Deri flat, Aled listens to the recorded message as he looks out of the window;  Tyler asks if he wants something for lunch.

"You have to eat something, Al"

“You have to eat something,” he insists, but Aled does not want anything.

"If he doesn't want you, that's his loss"

“If Dylan doesn’t want you in his life, that’s his loss, OK?”

Gaynor shows off about her holiday

Outside the shop, Gaynor, who has just returned from her holiday in Croatia, is telling Ffion that it was expensive, but well worth it,

"Thank you for telling me, Gaynor!"

when Sara passes on the other side of the road, shouting, “Thank you for telling me the house was on the market!   You said you’d give us the first offer, but it’s sold already!”

"It's not on the market yet"

Gaynor explains the house is not yet on the market, but is informed that it is in the window of Tomos ac Ellis.   Gaynor jokes, “Well, someone must have sold it while we were away –

"You're probably confusing it with a similar house"

“you’re probably confusing it with a similar house.”   Sara is not convinced by this argument.

Sara is unwilling to discuss any change

As Jason gets out of the APD van, he sees Sara, and asks, “Can we swap the night I have Ifan next week, please?”   She is unwilling to change anything, explaining that they are going to stay with Joanne next week, and insists that she has already told him about it.

"When would I have found out?"

He begs to differ;  “What if we hadn’t spoken?   When would I have found out?”

"Don't fuss, Jason!"

She tells him not to make a fuss, and cannot expect her to share every detail of her life.

"You can have more time with him the following week"

She concedes that he can have more time with Ifan the following week,

Jason is obviously not happy

but he is obviously not happy about this arrangement.

"What was your worst date, DJ?"

As they sit on the floor with their ‘picnic’, Sioned asks what has been DJ’s worst date;  he does not think it that it counts as a ‘date’, but once he woke up next to a woman who was an actual grandmother.

"I was at school with her grandson!"

He goes on, “What was worse, I was in school with her grandson!”

Sioned had forgotten that he had a thing for older women, and he is anxious to change the subject,

Then he asks her the same question

asking her, “Who is the worst person you’ve dated?”

"My name will be on a lot of people's lists"

Sioned evasively maintains that her name will be on a lot of people’s lists,

"I've never gone out with somebody like you"

adding, “I’ve never gone out with somebody like you.”

"What – fat, you mean?"

He assumes that she means someone fat, but she is adamant,

"You're not fat – you're cwtchy!"

“You’re not fat – you’re cwtchy – you’re perfect!   I wouldn’t change anything about you –

"If you want to be more perfect . . ."

“but if you want to be more perfect, you can make me a cup of tea, to go with this muffin.”

"I think I can manage that for you"

Of course, he is only too willing to do so;

Sioned looks apprehensively at a napkin

meanwhile she hesitantly picks up a napkin and looks at it.

There is a 'SOLD' sign at Llwyncelyn

Gaynor and Hywel arrive at Llwyncelyn, which indeed bears an estate agent’s sign indicating it has been sold.   Gaynor is increasingly confused, suspecting they have put the sign on the wrong house;

"I'll phone Tomos ac Ellis later"

Hywel will phone Tomos ac Ellis later to sort things out.

"Is there any of that nice coffee left?"

They begin to unload the car, and Hywel would like a cup of coffee.

However, when they reach the front door,

"My key won't open the door, Hywel!"

Gaynor finds that her key will not open it,

He has the same problem

and neither will Hywel’s;

"I think they've changed the locks!"

he comes to the conclusion, “I think they’ve changed the locks!”

Does Sara never stop moaning?

Outside Tapas, Sara is moaning as usual, “I don’t know what’s wrong with Jason – it’s not like I dumped Ifan on him without warning – he should be grateful!”

"It's Aled, looking for a job"

Dylan’s phone rings again, and he explains that it is only Tesni’s friend, Aled, looking for a job.

"We could do with another pair of hands"

Sara maintains that they could do with another pair of hands, but Dylan will not entertain the idea;

"I don't think he's right for Tapas"

“He’s a bit odd, to be honest – I don’t think he’s right for Tapas.   I’ve tried telling him that, but he won’t listen.   If he comes here, tell him I’m not here.”

"Why are you so worried about an 18-year-old boy?"

She wonders why he is worried about an 18-year-old boy, but he insists that he is not.

Sioned seems to have gone quiet

At Penrhewl, DJ notices that Sioned has gone quiet, and he is ready to start clearing up, but she stops him.   “There’s no rush, is there?

"Let's share is muffin"

“Let’s share this muffin – it looks lush.   Please?   For me?”

DJ notices something . . .

DJ cannot refuse, but as he picks up the cake, he notices something written on the napkin;

. . . a message on the napkin

“Will you marry me?” he reads,

"What's going on, Sioned?|

and looks extremely puzzled wanting to know what is going on.

"Well, will you?   Will you marry me?"

She anxiously enquires, “Well, will you?   Will you marry me?”

DJ is rendered speechless

He is temporarily lost for words.

By this time Sioned is becoming worried;  he gets up and demands, “Is someone filming this?”

"You've spoiled the moment now, DJ"

She points out that he has now spoiled the moment,

"I am serious – will you?"

again stressing that she is serious and is asking him if he will marry her.

"Are you sure that's what you want?"

He is very receptive to the idea, but again asks if she is sure that it what she wants;

She assures him that she is . . .

she is even more determined

. . . and the inevitable kiss follows

that she wants to marry him,

. . . followed by a loving cwtch

and they inevitably kiss.

"They say it's been sold by the owner"

Outside Llwyncelyn, Hywel is on the phone to Tomos ac Ellis, who assure him that the house has been sold by its owner.

Gaynor makes the discovery that . . .

Meanwhile, Gaynor has been peering through the windows,

. . . all the furniture has gone

discovering that all the furniture has been removed;

"Someone has stolen my home!"

“It’s completely empty, Hywel!” she screams, “Someone has stolen my home!   This doesn’t make any sense!”

"Contact the bank"

He advises her to contact the bank to see what they know, while he organises somewhere for them to stay overnight.   “Everything’s going to be all right, isn’t it, Hywel?” she whimpers,

Gaynor is extremely troubled

and he attempts to give the impression he is confident that they can sort it out.

"You're not missing out, Aled"

Aled is still sitting silently, and is advised by Tyler, “Look, take this from someone who hasn’t seen his father since he was a child – you’re not missing out.”

Aled replies that if he could just talk to his father he is sure that they could sort it out.

“It’s time to accept that Dylan doesn’t want to know you!” Tyler emphasises;

"Why are you being like that?"

Aled demands why he is being like that, takes his jacket and walks out.

"If I hadn't bumped into her this morning . . ."

Jason is in a very bad mood as he describes his meeting with Sara;  “If I hadn’t bumped into her this morning, I still wouldn’t know she was taking my son away!”

"Jase, there's not much you can do"

Kelly attempts to calm him, “Jase, I know it’s tough, OK, but there isn’t much you can do, is there?” and he goes upstairs.

"Americano, please, Kelly"

Then Hywel comes in, looking grim, and orders an Americano.

"Gutted after coming home, is it?"

“Gutted after coming home from your holiday, I take it?” Kelly assumes, “Are you all right?”

Hywel tells his tale of woe

He explains that someone has put Llwyncelyn on the market, and even changed the locks.   They now have no proof that they own the house, as it has been emptied.

"Didn't that happen to the Joneses a few years ago?"

“Whoa, now – didn’t this happen to Mark or the Joneses a few years ago?” says Kelly, “It might be the same person – but I don’t think we ever found out who.”

"That's not a lot of help, Kelly"

That is not a lot of help to Hywel,

Tyler is worried about Aled

Tyler is anxious about Aled, and tries to contact him, apologising for upsetting him earlier;  “Of course you want to build a relationship with Dylan, and I support you 100%.   Just give him time, OK?

"Please don't do anything stupid"

“And please don’t do anything stupid.”

The news is not good from Elin

Jason has been on the phone to his cousin Elin, the lawyer, and when Kelly comes upstairs,

"Elin, the lawyer – about this custody business?"

she is told that it is about this custody business.

"Unless I have loads of money . . ."

“Elin says that unless I have lots of money that I can basically throw away, I can’t stop Sara or anyone else doing anything – let alone win a custody battle!” he tells her,

"Dylan moneybags is a bad influence"

“I know that Dylan moneybags is dodgy and a bad influence, not only on my son, but on Sara as well.   So all I have to do now is to prove it – show her.”

"Do you really want more aggro with Sara"

Kelly once again shows the voice of reason;  “Jase, do you really want more aggro with Sara?”

"If I have to play dirty, I will"

He maintains that if he has to play dirty to protect his son, that is what he is going to do.   She looks very concerned about him.

Aled is lurking near the surgery . . .

Aled stands outside the surgery,

. . . keeping watch on Tapas

looking across at Tapas,

"Is Dylan in there?"

and when Sara comes out, he follows her;  he asks if Dylan is there, and she says that she was told that he might call.

"We're not looking for anyone new at the moment"

“Unfortunately we’re not looking for anyone new at the moment, but leave your CV with us, and you never know.”

"Is Dylan good with Ifan?"

“You’re with Dylan, aren’t you?” he says, “And you’ve got a son?   Is Dylan good with him, or . . .”   She says that he is very good with Ifan, and Aled comments, “That’s nice.”

Sara is puzzled

She turns and walks away, looking puzzled.

"They've emptied the bank accounts as well!"

A very subdued Gaynor comes into the café and informs Hywel, “Whoever is responsible for this has emptied the accounts as well as selling the house – thousands, Hywel!

"The police are on their way to Llwyncelyn"

“The police are on their way to Llwyncelyn to take a statement.”

Dylan's peace is disturbed . . .

Dylan is in the Deri when he is dismayed to see Aled walk in;

. . . by the arrival of Aled

he takes off his jacket and sits down.

"Not this again"

“Not this again,” Dylan groans,

"I deserve an explanation"

but Aled thinks that he deserves an explanation, pointing out that he is not being unreasonable.

"You're stalking me, Aled!"

“You’re stalking me, Aled!” Dylan complains, but is told that Aled wants to know what he is doing wrong;  he does not want money from his father, neither does he want to call him ‘Dad’,

"I just want to get to know you"

but just wants to get to know him.

"I don't want to know you!"

“I don’t want to know you!” Dylan stresses, “Now go – you’re making a fool of yourself!”    Aled suspects that it may be because he is gay;  he has had that problem before.

"I just got your mother pregnant"

He is told that there does not have to be a reason for everything;  “I’m not your father – I just got your mother pregnant.   Its a mistake to say it’s more than that.”

"Time will change things"

Aled realises that it is a shock, that is sure that time will change things.

“Just stop, OK?” Dylan snarls,

"I don't want you now!"

“I didn’t want you were little and I don’t want you now!”

He knocks over the chair in his haste . . .

Aled angrily jumps up from his chair, grabs his jacket and knocks the chair over in his hurry to leave the pub.

. . . and goes out into the street

In a state of panic he crosses the road,

DJ emerges from the shop

looking up at the Deri, just as DJ is leaving the shop, carrying a bunch of flowers for Sioned.   Then Aled looks at his car parked nearby.

"People will think we're fools"

Sioned is talking to DJ on the phone;  “People will think we’re fools,” she predicts,

"They're probably right"

and he, now walking through the alley, concedes that they are probably right.   He says that they will tell her mother later, but will have to wait to tell Dai.

"Why don't you book a table at the Deri?"

“Why don’t you book a table for us in the Deri tonight for dinner?” she suggests, “We can tell Mam when we’re home together.   When you phone your Dad, make sure you hold the phone away from your ear!”

"Love you, Sioned"

He confirms that he has bought the bubbly, and they reaffirm their love for each other.

Aled is out of control . . .

Aled is sitting in his car, in a furious temper, thumping the steering wheel

. . . after his father's rejection

and weeping at the rejection he has experienced.

He tries to calm himself . . .

He puts on his seat belt and tries to calm himself, but as he turns on the engine,

. . . but then Dylan comes swaggering out

he sees Dylan coming out of the Deri and looking at his phone.

Aled accelerates toward him . . .

On the spur of the moment, Aled puts the car into gear and it speeds forward towards Dylan;

. . . just as DJ comes round the corner

DJ is walking around the corner by the chip shop flat when he sees this, shouts to Dylan and rushes forward, dropping the flowers and bottle.

The car misses Dylan . . .

Dylan throws himself aside to avoid the car, which then swerves into the road and into DJ,

. . . but DJ is not so fortunate . . .

who is thrown from the bonnet

. . . and lands on the road with a thud

to land on the tarmac.

Dylan is horrified

Dylan looks on with horror.
