Someone walks past Jaclyn's back gate . . .

 Jaclyn is pegging out washing on the line when she catches sight of someone walking past the back gate;  

. . . none other than Garry

Garry returns and she looks at him in a guilty fashion.

Dylan waits for his takeaway coffees

In the café, Dylan is waiting for his order;  

"Cappuccino, Latté!"

“Cappuccino, Latté!” says Kelly, and bangs them down on the table.   He compliments her on the excellent service, as usual, and leaves.

"I thought you were going to throw that coffee at him”

Iolo, who was sitting by the window, comments, “I thought you were going to throw that coffee at him, 

"Honestly, I was tempted!"

and Kelly admits that she was sorely tempted.   Iolo wants to know what has happened, 

"Has he stolen your straighteners?"

and whether perhaps Dylan has stolen her straighteners.

"They're playing dirty with the divorce"

“He and Sara are playing dirty with the divorce – it’s a long story,” she replies, “Anyway, what’s going on with you?   I haven’t seen you for ages.”   

"I'm hiding – I kissed Llio!"

He confesses that he has been hiding, because he kissed Llio.

“Your housemate?” she says, astonished, and he advises that now she has moved out;  

"You're gay, like, Iol!"

“What were you thinking, Iol?   You’re gay, like!”   He has been asking himself the same question since kissing her.   

"You snogged a girl to double-check, or what?"

“So you snogged a girl to double check, or what?” she asks. 

He explains that it was not like that, 

"Oh, she's this 'new person'!"

and Kelly realises, “She’s this new person you’ve been talking about!”   

"Ive made a mess of things"

He says that he has made a mess of things, and she definitely agrees with that evaluation.

"Howe long have you been back?"

Jaclyn asks how long Garry has been back;  

"It's nice to see you, Jacs"

“Not long – I’ve been crashing on Cassie’s sofa,” he answers, “I sent you a Christmas present –did you get it?”   She smiles as she tells him that she did.   “It’s nice to see you,” he continues, 

"Look at us, back here"

“Look at us, back here.”   She stresses that a lot has happened since then, and that she and Gerwyn are sorting things out.   

"Don't come here again, Garry"

“Things have never been so good – don’t come here again!” she warns .   He reluctantly walks away, and Jaclyn looks confused.

Sara is making wedding arrangements

Sara is busy on the laptop, making wedding arrangements, but Dylan enquires, 

"Remind me why we need to do this today"

“Remind me why we have to do this today.”   She points out that places are booking up very fast, and that a lot of people get engaged over Christmas.

“Right, your family next,” she continues, 

"Was there any truth in what Jason said?"

but he is showing no interest whatsoever;  “Listen, was there any truth in what Jason said?” she asks.   

He reminds her that Jason said a lot of things;  

"Sara, I thought you trusted me"

“Sara, I thought you trusted me – do you trust me?”   She says that she does, but the whole thing is playing on her mind, 

"You didn't come home the other night"

and she reminds him that he did not come home the other night.

"Don't let Jason come between us, please"

“This is exactly what Jason wants, OK?   Don’t let him come between us, please,” Dylan urges her, but she just wants him to take a bit more interest in arranging the wedding.

"You haven't got many friends listed down here"

“You haven’t got many friends listed down here – you haven’t even put Daf down,” she remarks;  

"I want just a small wedding"

he argues that he just wants a small wedding, and that all that is important is family – and her.   

She really is naïve, isn't she?"

She smiles, having been easily persuaded.

Eifion arrives in the Deri

Eifion comes into the Deri, where Tyler is on duty behind the bar.   

A text arrives from Aled's mother

Aled has left his phone on the bar, and Tyler notices a text has arrived from his mother;  “Where are you?”

Eifion is looking for B&B

Eifion wants to know if the Deri is still doing bed and breakfast, 

"I could do with some luxury"

as he fancies a break from the caravan, and could do with some luxury;  “And I’m pretty flush at the moment,” he brags.   Tyler regrets that they cannot help him, so he will have a pint instead.

"Your mother's trying to get hold of you"

Aled returns from the cellar with a case of crisps, and is told that his mother is trying to get hold of him.   

He does not look any too pleased about this

He does not look very pleased to hear this news.

"You've argued, have you?"

Kelly continues questioning Iolo about whether they have argued;  

"Comfort – jealousy, after seeing Tyler and Aled"

“She was hoping it might develop into something more,”  and Kelly demands  why he did it.   “Comfort – jealousy, after seeing Tyler and Aled so happy together,” he mutters.

"Take responsibility for your actions, Iol"

“You have to stop blaming Tyler for every mistake you make in your life –take responsibility for your actions, Iol,” she instructs him, 

"Phone her and tell her"

“Phone her and tell her that you don’t want to lose her friendship.”   

"You're right – 'll try again"

He has already done so, but agrees that he will try again.

Dylan comes out of the house

Dylan comes out of the house, followed by Sara, 

"What are we going to do, Dylan?"

who complains, “They haven’t got a free date for two years – that’s the second one now – what are we going to do?”   

"What?   Two years?   Everything's going wrong!"

He simply suggests that they wait, and she snaps, “What?   Two years?   Everything’s going wrong!”

He slams down his phone

Exasperated, Dylan slams down his phone on a table outside the Deri, and exclaims, “Sara, you don’t stop!   The wedding, buying a house – 

"You just go on and on!"

“you just go on and on!”   She furiously demands whether he wants to marry her or not, and of course he agrees that he does.

Rhysd is off somewhere . . .

Rhys also comes out of the house, on his way somewhere;  he says he cannot wait for a change of scene, 

. . . with Luned

and they see that Luned is going with him.   

Dylan seems to have forgotten something . . .

Sara is jealous of them, enjoying themselves, and marches off, with Dylan chasing after her.    

. . . but someone has noticed . . . 

They do not notice a figure lurking by the bus stop.

. . . and takes advantage of the situation

Outside the chippy, he suggests that they could go to see some places next week;  while they are otherwise occupied, Garry can be seen slyly approaching that table and surreptitiously picking up Dylan’s phone.   

"There are some nice places found Llandeilo"

Sara thinks they might go to Llandeilo, as there are some nice places round there.   She is now going to pick up Ifan and take him to his appointment;  she will see him later.

Llio has come to meet Iolo

In the Deri, as Aled is complaining to Tyler that he is unable to contact his mother, Llio comes in to meet Iolo.   

"I don't have much time, sorry"

“I don’t have much time, sorry,” she tells him, 

"I treated you terribly, Llio"

and once again he apologises, in his halting fashion, admitting that he treated her terribly.

"Well, I knew you had been married to a man, didn't I?"

She concedes that it is not all his fault;  “I knew you’d been married to a man, didn’t I?   I decided that you were the one for me anyway – I pushed things forward.”   

"I still adore you!"

Iolo is sorry that things turned out like this, and confesses that he still adores her.

"If you weren't gay, we'd be perfect for each other"

“If you weren’t gay, I think we’d be perfect for each other,” she sighs, and cannot stay for a drink, as she has a lot to do tonight.   “I’d love to, but I’m moving to Cardiff tomorrow – I need a permanent job, and perhaps a new start.   

"I hope you'll be happy, Iolo"

“I hope you’ll be happy, Iolo.”

"It was really nice to see you again"

He says that it was really nice to see her again and wishes her good luck;  

He seeks consolation in alcohol

then he goes across to the bar and orders another drink from Tyler.

Aled gets a shock . . .

The door opens and Aled is concerned 

. . . when his mother walks in

to see Helen, his mother, come in.

Dylan cannot find his phone

Dylan is unable to find his phone, and looks around the house;  

"What's the crisis, then?"

then Jaclyn walks in and asks, “What is the crisis, then?   You told me to rush over here!”

He does not know what she is talking about

He denies doing such a thing, but then Garry intervenes;  

"You should be more careful where you leave your phone"

“You should be more careful where you leave your phone.”   

"What's going on?"

Jaclyn wants to know what is going on.   

"Dyl here has something to tell you"

“Dyl here has got something to tell you,” Garry continues, but Dylan says he does not know what Garry means.

“Oh, I think you do.”   

"I'm not interested in your games"

Jacqueline is not interested in the games that they play, and demands to be kept out of it.   “It’s about that day we were supposed to go away,” says Garry, “He hasn’t told you what he did.   Are you going to tell her, or shall I?”

Dylan insists that he is just trying to come between them again,

"He will do anything – even kill me!"

but Garry explains, “Dyl wasn’t happy that you were leaving him all on his own.”   As Dylan urges her not to take any notice, he continues, “To be honest, he was willing to do anything to keep you here.   Even kill me – and you thought you’d succeeded, didn’t you?

Dylan remains completely silent, and Jaclyn cannot understand what is going on.

"He was always possessive"

Upstairs in the Deri flat, Aled’s mother tells him, “He was always possessive – I thought it was sweet at first, that someone liked me that much.  “I’m not  sure exactly when things got worse, but I remember starting to think that he was right and it was all my fault – for smiling at the bloke in the shop, for wearing that skirt, for saying the wrong thing.

"I'm leaving him – I wanted you to know"

“You know yourself, one word out of place and he’d turn – that’s why I have to go – I’m leaving him!   I wanted you to know.   Things have gone from bad to worse since you moved out – he had no one else to bully.”

"I should never have left you"

Aled regards this as his fault, maintaining that he should never have left her, but she insists there was nothing he could have done.   “He could have hit me instead of you!” he protests, but his mother says she is the one who should apologise.

"I've let you – and your real mother down"

“I let him treat you like that – I’ve let you down, Aled – you and your mother – I mean your real mother.   I promised her I would look after you.”

"She wasn't exactly an example to anyone"

He reminds her that she was not exactly an example to anyone, but she has something to give him before she goes;  “Chris wouldn’t let me give it to you – he said it was for your own sake – but I gave her my word.   She left this for you,” 

Helen puts a small box on the table

and she puts down a small box on the table.

Aled looks inside

Aled opens it and finds some photographs and a letter;  he picks up the first photograph, and his mother explains, “That’s your real mother – Bethan.”   

His mother – Bethan (also known as Jessie)

He is shocked when he sees the photo – Bethan would be more recognisable to viewers if she had red hair.

"I didn't want you to run away with him"

“I didn’t want you to run away with him,” Dylan tries to explain, and is prompted to tell Jaclyn what happened;  “I went to meet him while you were packing.”

"You were also 'packing' something"

Garry remarks that he was also ‘packing’ something, and instructs Dylan to tell her.   

"I wasn't going to use it"

“I took a gun with me – but I wasn’t going to use it.”   

“Why did you point it at me when I got out of the car, then?” Garry demands.   Dylan maintains that it was just an empty threat, but Garry  would not listen.

"I had to stop him!"

“I had to stop him!”   Garry remarks that Dylan stopped him, all right;  

"It was self-defence, Jacs!"

“You went for me – it was self defence, Jacs.   If you’d got hold of the gun, you would’ve done exactly the same.”   

"We'll never know now, will we?"

Garry comments that they will never know now.

"You shot him?"

“You shot him?” demands Jaclyn, and Dylan remains silent.

"Give your real mother a chance, Aled"

Aled has spread out the photographs on the table, and Helen urges him to give his real mother a chance, but he is not interested;  “She gave her own baby away!”   

"No, she left you with her big sister"

He is told that she did not give him away, she left him with her big sister.  “She couldn’t be the mother you deserved,” and Aled stresses that she chose the drugs instead.   “I’ve had years of worry because of her, believe me.   I tried everything to get her out of that world – but in the end, 

"If people don't want to help themselves . . ."

“if people don’t want to help themselves, there’s no hope.   She made her choice, but it wasn’t easy for her – read the letter – she wasn’t all bad.”

"She wass part of it"

Aled snarls, “She killed a schoolboy the same age as me – she was part of it.”   It is explained to him that Jessie took over in the end – by then Bethan was long gone.

"You can't avoid this for ever"

“I’m determined to do the right thing by you from now on,” she assures him, “You can’t avoid this for ever – it will only catch up with you in the end.   You need to understand who you are – read the letter, love.”

"Anyone would think he'd done it before"

Garry summarises that Dylan did a good job of covering his tracks;  “Anyone would think he had done it before!   Wrapping my body carefully in the back of the car, dragging me out, throwing me into the water – he was a real pro!   

"It was just a shame I was still alive!"

“It was just a shame I was still alive!”

"Why did you do it, Dyl?"

Jaclyn realises her brother has no limits any more;  “Why did you do it, Dyl?”   

"He was too selfish to let you be happy"

Garry answers that he was too selfish to let her be happy, 

"I couldn't lose my sister"

and Dylan admits that he panicked, insisting that he could not lose his sister.

“Or he couldn’t risk letting you out of his sight, in case you know too many of his secrets,” Garry adds;  Dylan accuses him of filling her head with nonsense.   

"Now do you understand?"

“Now do you understand?” Garry asks her.

Dylan, however, maintains that this matter is between him and her;  

"There is no 'you and Jacs' any more!"

she gets up from her chair and cheerfully informs him, “You’re on your own from now on – there is no ‘you and Jacs’ any more.”

"He's my father?""

Aled wants to know if it is true;  “He’s my father?   I know him – he lives in the village!  

"No way he's my father!"

“No way he’s my father!”   However his mother insists it is true and that he needed to know.   She must leave now, as she has to catch a train to London soon;  she needs some time away from here, but she will be back.

Tyler comes in

Tyler comes upstairs to ask if she would like something to eat, and she says, “He’s had rather a shock – I’m glad you’re here to support him.   I’m sorry, Aled, for everything.   

"Bethan wasn't all bad, you know"

“Bethan wasn’t all bad, you know – she was just a bit lost, like a lot of us.”

Aled shows a photo of his father

After she has gone, Aled informs Tyler that he has just found out who his father is;  he holds up a photo of a younger-looking Dylan.

Dylan is at that moment following Jaclyn out of the house, protesting, “I’ll never interfere in your life again, I promise,” 

"You won't get the chance!"

but she shouts at him that he will not get the chance.

“You’re not my brother any more!” she screams;  as Dylan returns to the house, 

Helen gets a shock as she leaves the Deri . . .

Aled’s adoptive mother comes out of the Deri, 

. . . as does Dylan

and they recognise each other.

Jaclyn hurries homewards

As Jaclyn hurries towards the back gate of number 10, 

"I didn'tchange my mind, Jacs"

Garry approaches and tells her that he did not change his mind, 

"Do you have any idea how much that hurt me?"

but she rages at him, “Do you have any idea how much that hurt me?   I’ve never felt so worthless – it’s like you used me and threw me away when you were finished!”

"One call from you, and I would have dropped everything"

He assures her that is not true;  she maintains, “One call from you and I would have dropped everything.”   

"I don't want to be without you!"

He does not want to be without her, and suspects that she feels the same, pleading with her to give him another chance.

"You're not worth it!"

“You’re not worth it!” she growls, and she continues on her way home;  

Garry walks away in desolation

Garry trudges into the alley.
