Lisa is eating her breakfast

Lisa is eating her breakfast when Cassie comes downstairs and tells her, “I wanted a word with you about Tesni.   

"You haven't dragged her into your business?"

“You haven’t dragged her into your business, have you?”   Lisa denies this, 

"Ieuan Griffiths was shouting at her"

so Cassie continues, “That’s odd, because Ieuan Griffiths was shouting at her on the street the other day – they’d obviously organised to meet.   I heard some of it – they were going to the Glyndwr, but there we go, I’m sure it was all innocent and nothing to do with you.”

“Nor you!” Lisa abruptly informs her, but she is assured that she cannot pull the wool over Cassie’s eyes. 

"It was nothing to do with me!"

“If they had arranged to go to the Glyndwr, it was nothing to do with me!” Lisa snarls.

"And she hasn't been working for you?"

“And she hasn’t been working for you?” is the next question.

Lisa agrees that Tesni has helped her out a few times;  “She approached me for a job.”   

"She is over 18"

Cassie concludes that Lisa saw the chance to take advantage of her, but it is pointed out that Tesni is 18.

“No 18-year-old knows what they’re doing,” Cassie replies, 

"She hasn't been round the block, like you and me"

“She hasn’t been round the block, like you and me.”   Although Lisa maintains that Tesni is not as vulnerable as she thinks, she is told in no uncertain terms, “Well, she was, and Ieuan Griffiths was vicious to her!”

Lisa will have a word with him, but is advised that she should also have a word with Tesni.   

Cassie turns threatening

“And if I hear that you’re putting another young girl in danger, you can pack your stuff!” is Cassie’s final word, which gives Lisa something to think about.

Griffiths arrives at Llwyncelyn 

Griffiths has gone to see Hywel at Llwyncelyn;  “I won’t keep you – I wanted a chat, councillor to councillor.   

"Neither of us wants a scandal"

“The last thing either of us wants is a scandal in the council.   I realise that you and Gaynor saw what what happened with that Tesni girl.   I’m sure we can come to some arrangement, so it won’t go any further.”

Hywel has no wish to dredge it up again

Hywel assures him that he has no intention of mentioning it again, 

Gaynor is on her way downstairs . . .

then hears Gaynor coming downstairs, and is very eager to get rid of Griffiths;  “Ieuan was just on his way out,” he tells her, “There’s nothing else to talk about,” 

. . . and Griffiths leaves

and their visitor leaves.

She is not speaking to Hywel . . .

Gaynor is preparing for school without a word, but Hywel says that this is stupid;  she totally ignores him, picks up her bag and goes.   

. . . which causes him some concern

He is becoming worried.

A rather short-notice memorial evening

In the Deri, Cassie is putting up a notice, publicising the memorial evening for Iori;  

"I've left it all until the last minute"

Brenda confesses, “I’ve left it all until the last minute,” but is assured that some people will come.   

"The buffet is all under control"

Brenda will try and round up some people, and asks if the buffet is ready.   When Lisa comes in, she is invited to come tonight, 

"Sorry, I have other plans tonight"

but apologises that she has other plans.   

"A latté please, Cassie"

asks for a latté, and admits that she is not going anywhere tonight, but does not want to celebrate Iori’s life.   

"Something quite good-natured about Iori!"

Cassie recalls, “There was something quite good-natured about him – he meant no harm!”   

Smarmy Griffiths has come in

This last barbed comment is aimed at Griffiths, who has just come in.

"Going after Tesni like some dirty dog?"

Lisa warns him, “You’ve got nothing to smile about, Ieuan.   What came over you to go after Tesni like some dirty dog?”   

He explains that, on the contrary, she came after him, and advises Lisa to be aware of her facts before pointing the finger;  

"She arranged it herself – and she's cheaper!"

“She arranged it herself – a different service.   It was nothing to do with you – and it was cheaper!”   This takes the wind out of Lisa’s sails, 

Cassie makes sure not to miss anything

while Cassie is carefully eavesdropping on what is being said.

Now he has a favour to ask

Lisa thanks him for letting her know, and now he wants to ask her a favour;  

"Is Hywel Llywelyn one of your clients?"

“Is Hywel Llywelyn one of your clients?”   

"I would not divulge anything about my clients"

She reprimands him for asking that question, stressing that she would not divulge anything about any of her clients.   She reminds him that she is running a professional business.   

He thinks that answers his question

Still smiling, he gets up and walks out of the pub.

Posters have gone up around the village

A copy of the poster is displayed in the café;  it reads, ‘A night to remember the beloved Iori Davies.   Come and share memories.’   

"Mam is trying to ground me!"

Beneath it, Tesni is complaining to Aled, “Mam is trying to ground me, like I’m nine years old!”   As he does not say anything, she assumes that he is taking her mother’s side.

"You're putting yourself in dangerous situations"

He explains that he is just worried about her, as she is putting herself in dangerous situations.   

"No more than when you were using Grindr"

“No more than you were, when you were using Grindr,” she replies, “You were meeting dodgy blokes.”

He points out, “I always made sure a mate knew where I was going,” 

"Anything could have happened to you, Tes"

and she accuses him of being sexist, with one rule for him and another for women.   He goes on, “Anything could have happened to you – Afternoon Tea – and after that, what?   You’ve been stupid, Tes!”

"I'm not going to listen to this!"

Tesni objects to what he is saying;  “I’m not going to listen to this – I thought you were a mate!   Don’t try to contact me again!”   

Off she goes, out of the café 

She flounces out of the café.

Lisa calls after her

As she is walking across the road, Lisa calls after her, “It’s no good running away – I know what you’ve done.   

"Trying to steal one of my best clients" 

“Trying to steal one of my best clients!   Ieuan told me everything.”   

Tesni maintains she is not getting her due . . .

Tesni answers that she is not being paid enough, which is why she did it;  “I brought in a lot of money – ‘the best on the books’, you said.”   Lisa does not argue with this, maintaining that they are a good team, but Tesni has been extremely naïve, drawing attention to her business.   People have been finding things out, but Lisa has not decided if Tesni will be sacked.

. . . but is given a stern warning

She threatens, “But you don’t want to cross me, or it will be a lot worse than you losing your job!”   In the background, at the other end of the alley, a dark, hooded figure can be seen in the shadows, looking at one of the posters.   

Who is the mysterious hooded figure?

Tesni passes him, on the way to the back entrance of number 10, 

Why – none other than Iori himself!

then we discover that the figure is Iori himself.   He walks resolutely away.

"Ooh – very original, Hywel!"

Gaynor arrives home to find a bunch of flowers on the table;  “Ooh, very original, Hywel – from the garage?   Lovely,” she sarcastically comments, “Do you know, I didn’t sleep well last night, thinking about what you did and why.   

"You still haven't explained why"

“By the way, you still haven’t explained why.”

"I don't know myself"

He mumbles that he does not know himself why he did it;  “Sorry, that’s not good enough!” she responds, and he whines that he regrets it.   

"Have you any idea how it makes me feel?"

“Have you any idea how it makes me feel?   Knowing you’re carrying on like that with Lisa Morgan behind my back – and still sleeping with me?   Are you thinking of her when you’re with me?”

"Of course not, Gaynor"

Hywel answers that he is not, so she assumes that he is laughing at her, which he also denies.   

"What exactly do you do?"

“But you do it here, in our home?   What exactly do you do?” Gaynor enquires.

"Just flirting and talking – that's all"

“Just talking and flirting – that’s all,” he tells her, looking rather uncomfortable.

"So you sit here half-naked while I'm at school!"

Gaynor laughs as she visualises it;  “So you sit here half-naked while I’m at school!   Wow!   Well, it’s obvious that I’m not enough for you.   

"Am I too old – too respectable?"

“Am I too old – too respectable?”

He replies that she is beautiful and intelligent, 

"Why do you do it, then?"

so Gaynor’s natural reaction is, “Why do you do it, then?”   

"I suppose I want to feel young again"

He supposes that he wants to feel young again – he enjoys the attention – it is an ‘ego’ thing, that is all.   He emphasises that it is not as if he slept with her.

"The betrayal is the same"

This cuts no ice with Gaynor;  “No, but the betrayal is the same,” she says.   

"We'll be going on holiday soon"

He maintains that they are good together and will be going on holiday soon;  it will be nice for the two of them to have some time together.   

"Cancel it!"

Her terse answer is, “Cancel it!” 

She storms upstairs

and she marches off upstairs.

Tesni says she is very sorry

Tesni visits number 9 in apologetic mood;  “I’m sorry for trying to go behind your back,” she says, “And stealing one of your best clients.”   

"You're after your job back, aren't you?"

It is quite evident that she wants her job back, and she promises that she has learned her lesson.

Lisa is unexpectedly willing to reinstate her, much to Tesni’s surprise;  “But you need to be more careful – don’t put yourself in danger again.   And keep your parents out of it.”   

"I promise I won't say a word"

Tesni swears she will not say a word, and is reminded, “I’m the boss.   

"I'm glad we understand each other"

“I’m glad we understand each other,” Lisa tells her,

Brenda is all alone in the Deri . . .

Brenda is sitting alone at the bar, 

. . . and a lavish buffet has been organised by Cassie

and we see the buffet which has been prepared;  

"Sorry, I had to check something in the kitchen"

Cassie returns from the kitchen and hopes that she has not been waiting long.   

Brenda bewails the lack of people

“There’s nobody here,” Brenda groans, but is told that it is rather early, and people do not like arriving on time.

"People can be so fickle"

“People can be so fickle, can’t they?” she sniffs, so Cassie recommends a gin and tonic, on the house.   

An unusual view, through the back of the bar

Brenda is pleased to see Kath come in, and she asks for a vodka and tonic;  Cassie points out that the drinks are free tonight.

"Iori and I go back years"

“I had to come tonight – Iori and I go back years,” Kath says, “We argued like cat and dog, but I can’t believe he’s gone.”   

"Apparently it was a heart attack, Kath"

Cassie informs her that it was a heart attack, and Brenda describes it as awful;  

What is that shadow on the door?

“He got over-excited in Caesar’s Palace, and that was it!”   As Cassie remarks about it being terrible to die so far from home, 

It is that hooded figure again

the door quietly opens and a hooded figure creeps in.

"We had such a good time in Vegas!"

“But he’s home now,” Brenda tells them, looking suitably mournful, “We had such a good time in Vegas – we were both in our element in all the glitz.   I’m just so glad we had that time together.”   She is exaggerating the emotion now.

"Nobody can take those memories from you"

“Well, nobody can take those memories away from you,” Cassie sympathises.   Kath asks how she is coping now, and Brenda still cannot believe it – she says that she talks to him every day, something she regards as stupid.

"You've put on a good spread, Cassie"

Kath predicts that things will get easier, and remarks that Cassie has put on a good spread.   By now Iori has installed himself in a corner of the pub, where he cannot be seen, and, 

"A toast – to Iori!"

as Kath proposes a toast, “To Iori!” 

He joins in with his hip flask

he takes a swig from his hip flask.

Gerwyn looks quite presentable

Gerwyn has prepared to go to the Deri, arguing, “But we have to support Mam – she’s just lost her husband!”   

Tesni comes downstairs

Jaclyn is not keen, and at that moment, Tesni comes downstairs with a bottle, 

She was going to cook something special

telling them, “I wanted to say sorry – I was going to cook us something special, but you’re going out.”

"That's a lovely thought, Tes"

Jaclyn says that is a lovely thought, and insists, “This is more important than Iori’s memorial – I don’t want to let Tes down.”   Gerwyn realises that he will have to give in.

"These sausage rolls are lovely"

In the Deri, Kath has been sampling the food, and comments that the sausage rolls are lovely;  

There are not many people to eat all that food

as the three of them stand, suitably distanced, they reach the conclusion that no-one else is coming.   Kath wonders where Brenda’s family is, and Cassie thinks that it is strange that they are not there, to show some respect.

"I know Iori wasn't liked by everyone"

“I know Iori wasn’t liked by everyone,” says Kath, “But I thought the world of him.”   

Iori is paying attention

From his hiding place, Iori is quite encouraged by this, as they describe him as a character, and a lovable rogue.   “No-one knew what moneymaking scam he was up to next,” Kath adds, “Dodgy chocolates, dodgy Christmas lights.”   

"There were a lot of other dodgy things"

Cassie adds that there were a lot of other dodgy things.

"I'm going to miss him"

“But he had a big heart,” Kath summarises, “And I’m going to miss him – it’s odd, once someone goes.”   

I'd do anything to see him again"

Brenda says that she would do anything to see him again, but is told that he has gone, never to be seen again.

"Perhaps, in time, you will find someone else . . ."

“I know it’s hard, but you’ll never forget Iori, will you?” Kath comforts her, “Not now, but perhaps, in time, you’ll find someone else – 

". . . that's what Iori would want"

“that’s what Iori would want – he’d want you to be happy, wouldn’t he?”

Iori finds this very disturbing

This is getting too much for Iori in his secluded spot, as Kath proposes that they have a few more drinks to remember the good old days.   

"You wouldn't do that to me?"

Then all of a sudden, Iori appears, shouting, “What’s all this about finding someone else?   You wouldn’t do that to me?”

Cassie looks as if she has seen a ghost

This naturally comes as rather a shock to Cassie 

"You're dead!"

and Kath, who exclaims, “You’re dead!”   

"Er . . . that's not quite true"

He points out that is not quite true, and Brenda reckons that they can explain.

"We went a bit overboard in Vegas"

Iori begins, “The thing is, we went a bit overboard in Vegas – we spent a fortune in the casinos, shows and concerts – they were fantastic.”   Brenda adds that they flew over the Grand Canyon in a helicopter, “And I went on stage with Penn and Teller,” Iori boasts, “I’ll never forget that!”

"So you've fiddled his death"

Then they realised they had spent so much that they had no money left;  “So you’ve fiddled his death,” concludes Cassie, 

"This is an insurance scam!"

and Kath is furious that this is merely an insurance scam.

“Half the people in the valley are heartbroken, thinking you’re dead!” she rages, 

"Yes, it went too far"

and he concedes that it went too far.   Brenda scolds him for being out of the flat, but he argues that he wanted to come and see how many had turned up;  he regards it as quite disappointing.

"But you're not dead, are you, Iori?"

Kath loudly points out, “But you’re not dead, are you, Iori?” then turns her anger on Brenda.  “And you, playing the widow to get some sympathy!   I should report you to the police!”

"I knew it was a stupid idea!"

Now Brenda also turns on him, “I knew it was a stupid idea!” 

"And you thought you'd get away with it?"

and Cassie cannot believe they thought they would get away with it.   He orders two large brandies, but it is clearly explained to him that they will not be on the house.

"Right – you can pay!"

“You can pay for that buffet and the room for your memorial!” Cassie tells him, and Brenda vows that she will not pay a penny of it, as this was his stupid idea.   Cassie sums up the situation. “One scam too far!”

Hywel looks miserable

Hywel is sitting, looking miserable, when Gaynor comes into the room, carrying a bag;  

"Where are you going?"

he asks where she is going, 

"I'm not – you are!"

and she replies, “I’m not going anywhere – I’ve packed the bag for you!”   She places the bunch of flowers on top of it.   

"I need some time to think"

“I need some space – time to think,” she adds.

"I don't have anywhere to go"

“But I don’t have anywhere to go,” he protests, and volunteers to stay out of her way.   She answers that she cannot think straight with him around the place.   

"Do you want me to cancel the holiday?"

“Do you want me to cancel the holiday?” he asks, and she does not know.   “Where am I supposed to go?” he wails

She suggests a hotel or a B&B;  

"You can use your phone perfectly well"

“Text someone – you can use your phone perfectly well – and I’ll get in touch when I’m ready to talk.   We’ll have a chat about it then.

He declares that he loves her, but when there is no response, he picks up the bag;  

"I'll see you, then"

“I’ll see you, then,” he says as he leaves the house.   

Gaynor is left alone

Gaynor stands alone in the kitchen.
