"Why haven't you found him yet?"

Sioned is complaining to the police on the phone;  “Why haven’t you found him yet?   Someone out there is responsible for a hit-and-run!

"You need to work harder!"

“You need to work harder!”

"Shouting at them won't do any good, Sioned"

Her mother wonders whether shouting at them is going to do any good,

"Someone out there has destroyed our future!"

but Sioned continues, “They don’t even know who was driving the car – someone out there has destroyed our future!”

"You're getting ahead of yourself now"

“You’re getting ahead of yourself now,” Eileen reprimands her, but she goes on that they had plans,

"Now that we're engaged"

and blurts out that they are engaged.

"Why didn't you say anything?"

“What?   Why didn’t you say anything?” Eileen demands, and Sioned replies that this is not how she wanted to tell her mother.

"Every time I'm happy, something goes wrong!"

“I shouldn’t have said anything – because every time I’m happy, something goes wrong!” Sioned wails, “Don’t say you haven’t considered that I jinx everything!”

"It's not connected to you, Sioned"

Eileen points out that what happened to DJ is not connected to her,

"Perhaps I don't deserve to be happy"

but Sioned groans, “Perhaps I just don’t deserve to be happy – that’s how it feels!”   As her mother tells her not to be so silly, Sioned’s phone rings,

The hospital phones

and that she sees that the call is from the hospital.

Dylan cannot remove the blood from his shoes

Dylan is attempting to clean the blood off his shoes, with little success, and is becoming increasingly frustrated.

He makes another attempt to contact Aled . . .

He scrolls through the list of outgoing calls on his phone and tries to contact Aled again, but is greeted once more by a recorded message.

. . . and is mightily frustrated

He is at a loss to know what to do next.

"Have you seen Aled?"

Up in the Deri flat, Tyler is preparing vegetables when Jaclyn comes in, looking for Aled,

"No, not for some time"

but Tyler has not seen him for some time.   “He’s not answering his phone,” she moans, “And I’ve tried the café and the shop.”

Tyler asks the obvious question, “Is he with Tesni?”

"Oh – I never thought of that"

and she realises she has not thought of that, so is about to hurry home.   “Why are you so desperate to see him?” enquires Tyler, and she gives the excuse that she wanted to offer him a job.   “Be careful out there,” Tyler warns, “I presume you’ve heard about the hit-and-run?”

"Dylan was the one who found DJ there"

She says that Dylan was the one who found DJ there, hastily adding that Cassie was also there;  if Tyler sees Aled, he will pass on the message.

Tyler puts two and two together

Tyler is suspicious that there is some connection here;  he picks up his phone and tries to contact Aled.

Jaclyn gets home . . .

When Jaclyn reaches home, she is under the impression that no-one is there,

. . . and is surprised by Tesni

but then is surprised when Tesni come downstairs, asking if she has heard about the accident.   “The police asked me if I’d seen anything,” she says,

"Why did they come to the house?"

and Jaclyn wants to know why they came to the house.

“They were going door-to-door,” Tesni explains, then sits down

"DJ's dead, isn't he?"

and adds, “He’s dead, isn’t he?   A hit-and-run sounds serious!”

"No, he's still alive"

Her mother confirms that she has been told DJ is still alive and is being treated;  she just hopes that he gets through it.

“So the police don’t know who was driving the car?” is Tesni’s next question, and Jaclyn points out that there are lots of police out there, and they will find whoever did it.

"Have you seen Aled today?"

“Have you seen Aled today?” Jaclyn asks, “I want to offer him some work.”

Tesni unconvincingly says she has not

Tesni maintains that she has not seen him, which her mother finds odd;  “Nobody knows where he is – I saw Tyler, who is worried, after everything that’s happened to DJ.   He wants him home.”

"You have seen him, haven't you?"

From Tesni’s reaction, her mother knows that she has in fact seen Aled;

Tesni descends into floods of tears

Tesni’s stiff upper lip deserts her as she bursts into tears.

"Are you feeling better, Cassie?"

At number 9, Garry enquires if Cassie is feeling better;

"I see him every time I close my eyes"

“I can’t help but see him lying there every time I close my eyes,” she replies.

He wants her to tell him again what part Dylan played in all this;

"You said he was acting shiftily"

“You said he was there and he was acting shiftily.”   Cassie says that he was changing his story every two minutes, and Garry wonders if, while he was away, she saw him with DJ at all.

She says that they may have been talking a couple of times, but she does not know what it was about, suggesting possibly the weather.

"All I want is a bit of peace and quiet"

“Look, all I want tonight is a bit of peace and quiet,” she informs him, but then there is a knock at the door and Tyler arrives.

"You were there, weren't you?"

“I heard about DJ – you were there, weren’t you?” he asks Cassie, who says she only came upon the scene after the car had driven away.

"And Dylan was there too?"

“And Dylan was there too?” Tyler goes on.

"He said that he found DJ"

Cassie says that Dylan alleges he found DJ, and before he leaves, Tyler asks if they have seen Aled, who has been missing for some time, but they cannot help him.

"I'm telling you something's going on"

“Aled’s missing too – I’m telling you that something’s going on,” deduces Garry.

"Why didn't you say he's our cousin?"

Tesni demands of her mother, “Why didn’t you say he’s our cousin?   Are you serious – I’ve just found out I’ve got a cousin, and you want to know when I last saw him!”

"When did you last see him?"

Jaclyn answers that she also only found out today, and it is important to know when Tesni last saw him.

Tesni is about to escape from the questioning

Tesni is about to run off upstairs,

"He has to know DJ's still alive"

when Jaclyn reveals, “I know he ran over DJ – but he has to know that DJ’s still alive.”

Tesni says that she promised she would not tell anyone,

"I want to see him now!"

but her mother is adamant, “I want to see him now!”

"He's gone – and left this note!"

Tesni agrees to go and fetch him from where he is hiding upstairs, but very soon comes running back down, shouting that he is not there and has left a note, simply reading, “Sorry, Aled.”

Sioned arrives at the hospital . . .

Sioned walks into the hospital

. . . and looks through the glass at DJ

and looks through the glass at DJ lying there;  she plucks up the courage to go into the room.

"How do you feel?"

“Hey, you – I’m so glad to see you,” she says, “How do you feel?”

"Like I've been run over by a car"

“Like I’ve been run over by a car,” he replies, which makes her smile, and she asks if he remembers who it was, but it does not matter about that now – all that is important is that he is OK.

"I told them you're my fiancé"

“I’ve talked to the doctors, and they say you’ll make a full recovery in time,” she tells him, “They were happy to tell me when I explained you’re my fiancé.”

"Fiancé?"

He mumbles, “Fiancé?” in a puzzled manner, and she is frightened that he does not remember;

Then he smiles

then he smiles,

"That's not funny, DJ!"

and she complains that he is not being funny.

Jaclyn's search has been unsuccessful

Jaclyn  and demands to know exactly what happened.

"DJ just stepped into the road"

“He said it was an accident and DJ stepped into the road,” Tesni replies, and her mother asks if he was trying to hit Dylan.

“He was really horrible to Aled,” she explains, “But I don’t think he’ll try to hurt him again.”

"You stay here, in case he comes back"

Jaclyn will go out searching for him, but insists that Tesni stay there, in case Aled comes back.   Her mother praises her for doing the right thing.

"It's odd that Aled's missing as well"

As Garry pours out a drink, he remarks, “It’s odd that Aled’s missing – same same day as a hit-and-run in the village.”   Cassie cannot believe that he had anything to do with it, and suspects that perhaps he has gone away for some space – she would not blame him.

"Why is Dylan acting so strangely?"

“But if he did do it, why is Dylan acting so strangely?” Garry continues.

"They were having a pint together yesterday"

“Now you mention it, one of the boys in the bar saw them having a pint together yesterday,” Cassie mentions,

"And you leave it until now to tell me?"

and he cannot believe she has left it until now to tell him.

"Dylan chases only women, trust me!"

“Look, Aled is with Tyler – and Dylan chases women – only women, trust me,” says Cassie.

Garry keeps on with his suppositions;  “Why would he be having a pint with Dylan – they’ve got nothing in common.

"Perhaps they planned to hurt DJ"

“Perhaps they planned to hurt DJ, and make it look like an accident, do you think?”

"That's enough – I'm off to bed"

This is going too far for Cassie, who thinks it is time to go to bed.

"We're close, Cas – I know we are!"

He is confident, however, “We’re close, Cas – I know we are!”

"I don't know what I'm doing or where he is!"

Dylan is reduced to a state of panic;  he leaves a message for his sister, “Jacs, phone me back please – I don’t know what I’m doing or where he is!”   Then he throws the phone across the room, just as there is a knocking at the back door.

Aled arrives outside the back door

He sees that it is Aled and orders him to come inside immediately;  “I’ve been moving the car again, and now I’m on my way to see Tyler,” Aled tells him,

"I want to go to the police"

“I want to go to the police, and I want Tyler to come with me.”

"You're not thinking straight, Aled!"

Dylan shouts that he is not thinking straight,

"It's my fault – I killed DJ!"

but Aled continue to insist, “It’s my fault – I killed DJ!”   Dylan points out that DJ is still alive, but Aled does not believe him.

"I'm doing my best to protect you"

“Why would I lie?   I’m doing my best to protect you here,” Dylan argues.

"You said you didn't want anything to do with me"

Aled recalls, “You said you didn’t want anything to do with he, so why would you protect me?”

"I didn't mean that"

Dylan alleges that he wants to apologise, acknowledging that he did say some terrible things, which he did not mean.

"Of course you did!"

“Of course you did – or you wouldn’t have said them!” Aled snarls, and Dylan admits that he was angry and wanted to hurt him.   “Well, you succeeded!” he is forcefully told, “I tried to hurt you because of what you said to me.”

"I'm really sorry about that, Aled"

“Yes, I admit I pushed you – and I’m really sorry about that, Aled,” says Dylan, and Aled stresses that DJ is dead because of it.   It is stressed once again that DJ is still alive;

"DJ's more or less in perfect health"

“Sioned told Jaclyn – he’s more or less in perfect health.”

Dylan fetches some refreshment

Dylan goes to the kitchen for some cans of beer,

"I've been worried sick because I killed him!"

and Aled gasps, “I’ve been worried sick because I killed him,” and is assured that everything is going to be all right.

“Trust me – everything I’m doing is for your own good, OK?   I don’t want to hurt you any more I want to look after you, make sure you’re safe – do you understand?

"No more threats of confessing to the police"

“So no more threats of confessing to the police – OK?   I’ve given a description the car to the police –

"Nothing like your car!"

“nothing like your car!”

Aled realises that they now have no reason to suspect him, which Dylan confirms;

"As long as you don't open your big mouth"

“As long as you don’t open your big mouth, you’ll be all right.”

"I won't say anything"

Aled promises that he will not say anything, which is a great relief to Dylan.

"There's no need to come back, Mam"

From his hospital bed, DJ is speaking to his mother in Australia;  he assures her that there is no need for her to come back.

Sioned listens, amused

“They’re saying I might be able to go home tomorrow to Penrhewl –

"With Sioned, my fiancée"

“with Sioned – my fiancée.”

This causes some shouting from his mother . . .

He holds the phone away from his ear, prepared for his mother to launch into a tirade,

. . . and Sioned grimaces

and Sioned grimaces.

"I'll phone you when I get home"

After Diane has subsided, he adds, “I’ll phone you once I get home, all right?”

“Overjoyed with the news, was she?” comments Sioned,

"I want to marry you, Sioned"

and he reiterates that he wants to marry her;  “Good, because I’m sticking around,” she promises,

"I never want to feel like I did earlier"

“I never want to lose you – or feel like I did earlier.   I’m glad you remembered that we’re engaged.”   He agrees that it would have been rather embarrassing if he had not.

"Do you remember anything about the accident?"

“Listen – about the accident – do you remember anything?” she says, “The police have asked if you’re ready to talk to them.”   He looks rather concerned on hearing this.

Aled suddenly arrives at the Deri flat

Tyler is still vainly attempting to contact Aled when he suddenly walks into the flat;

"Where have you been?"

“Where have you been?   I’ve been phoning all day!” Tyler rages, and Aled blames a dead battery.   “Did you hear about DJ – it’s horrible!”

"I think I'll sleep in the spare room"

Aled simply wants to get to bed, and does not want Tyler, who wants a cwtch, sleeping with him.   “Actually, I think I’ll sleep in the spare room,” Aled suggests, explaining, “You haven’t done anything – it’s just been a long day – stressful, you know.”

"Are you still worried about this Dylan thing?"

“Because of DJ – or are you still worried about this Dylan thing?” Tyler wants to know,

"We understand each other now"

but Aled insists that he and Dylan now understand each other, and he is sure that DJ will be all right.

"He was threatening to go to the police"

Jaclyn has gone to see her brother, who is in a very nervous state;  “He was threatening to go to the police – I could have throttled him!”

"Your son, who you ignored for 18 years"

She reminds him that he is talking about his son, the one he ignored for 18 years.

"And I could ignore him for another 18!

“Yes, and I could ignore him for another 18!” he rants, “You do realise what he’s done?   Do you have any idea how we’re going to keep DJ quiet about this?   No, not a clue unless you go to see DJ and use your charms!

"No way, Dyl!"

She emphasises that there is no way she will get involved and suggests that he should tell DJ the truth, that Aled is his son.

He is infuriated;  “Are you mad?   If I tell him, I might as well tell everybody –

"They'll want to know who the mother is!"

“and then they’ll want to know who the mother is – and I’m not ready to answer that question, are you?”

"You moved her body . . ."

She warns him that this is his mess, but he yells at her, “No, not this time!   There’s a link between Bethan and me – you were there the last time.   You moved her body – you helped me!

". . . that's exactly why you're going to help me this time!"

“And that’s exactly why you’re going to help me this time as well!”
