Gerwyn has fallen asleep
Gerwyn has fallen asleep by Jaclyn’s bedside, and Dylan brings him a cup of coffee;
"They haven't said much"
there is still no change in Jaclyn’s condition, and the doctor has not said anything significant.   Dylan points out that the medical staff are not worried,
"She should have regained consciousness by now"
but Gerwyn snarls, “I’m worried!   They said she would have regained consciousness by now.”
"Why don't you go home for a rest?"
Dylan advises him not to think the worst;  “Go home for a rest,” he says,
"Don't tell me what to do!"
but Gerwyn resents being told what to do, insisting that his place is by her side.   “You’re not the only one who loves her,” he is told,
"She'll have a fright of she sees that stubble!"
“You look terrible – she’ll have a fright if she wakes up and sees that stubble!   I’ll phone if there is any change.”
"I'll be back later, love"
Gerwyn reluctantly agrees, kisses Jaclyn’s hand and promises her he will be back later.
The twins are going to miss the first day back at school
At number 10, the children have decided they will not go to school today, as they are going to the hospital;  Tesni asks if there is any news from their father, but
"No news from your father'
Brenda replies that there is not.   “I was hoping she’d be awake by this morning,” Tesni says
Brenda will make some sandwiches for their father,
"Mam will want something to eat when she wakes up"
and Guto suggests that their mother will also want something when she wakes up.   Tesni points out that she will not be able to eat, and Brenda tells him to get some grapes from the shop on their way.
"You can get my prescription from the surgery"
“There’s also a prescription for me at the surgery – and bring home some cakes from the café,” she adds.
"I'll tell the police if you don't get in touch"
Outside the door of number 7, Tyler is trying to contact Iolo;  “I’ll tell the police that you and Greta are missing if you don’t get in touch!   Just phone me, please.”
They look across at their former teacher
Across the road, children are heading for school on the first day of term.
"Is it about Jaclyn?"
At Bryntirion, Dai comes in with some good news for Diane;  “Not about Jaclyn, but the car – I’ve been to the police compound in Carmarthen,
"The car didn't cause the accident"
and the police say categorically that the car didn’t cause the accident.”
"I know – I caused it!"
“I know that – I caused the accident!” growls Diane, but he insists that they have been through this several times, and she was not to blame.   “I was behind the wheel – it was my foot on the accelerator – I knocked her over,” she stresses.
"She jumped out into the middle of the road!"
Dai protests, “You had no chance – she jumped out into the middle of the road!” but Diane still maintains that she should have braked sooner.
"I'm too old to react quickly enough"
She concludes that she is probably too old to react quickly enough, and reminds him how he is always going on about the women drivers.
"I was only joking – you're a very good driver!"
He replies that he is only joking and being chauvinistic;  “You’re a very good driver – second to none!” but she will not accept this.   “I thought you would feel better now that Jaclyn is on the mend.”   Diane reminds him that he said there was no news,
"We would have heard if there was any news"
but he reasons that they would have heard if the opposite was the case.
“Everyone says that the operation was a success,” he tells Diane, but she points out that Jaclyn would not have needed an operation if she had not been knocked over.   “Is there anything that would make you happy?” Dai demands, “Have you had any breakfast?   You have to eat or you will make yourself ill.”
"Is there any news about Jaclyn?"
At Y Felin, Anita asks Siôn if there is any news about Jaclyn;  “Colin didn’t say anything in the shop, and neither did anyone in the café,” he replies.
Anita takes offence that Siôn has visited the café
Anita is offended that he went into the café, and he comments that Kelly was asking about her;  “Siôn, you know how I feel!” Anita reacts angrily,
"And you know I don't feel the same way"
and he makes it clear that he does not feel the same way.
"I thought you'd support me!"
“I thought you’d support me!’ Anita rages, but he stresses that he does not intend to boycott the café.
“If you carry on like this, you’re going to lose her,” he advises, “Enough relationships in this family are falling apart as it is.”   She will not change her attitude.
"Dylan persuaded me to come home for a break"
Gerwyn arrives home at number 10 and tells his mother that Dylan persuaded him to come home for a break;
"You need a rest and some food"
she is of the opinion that he needs a rest and some food.   “And a shave, apparently,” he adds, “But I’m going back as soon as possible.”
"The doctors are not saying much"
When questioned by his mother, he replies that the doctors are not saying much, and is sent to go and get changed while she makes him some food;  however he says he does not want anything to eat.
“You’re no use to anyone if you’re ill,” Brenda reminds him,
"I'm no use anyway – without Jaclyn"
and he groans that he is no use anyway, and is nothing without Jaclyn.   Brenda points out that he is not without Jaclyn, but he thinks it will only be a matter of time.
Brenda gets Gerwyn's phone
He goes upstairs, but then his phone sounds, and Brenda takes it from his jacket and answers;  Garry is calling, and he is informed that there is no change.
"Thank you, Garry, you're very kind"
She thanks him and says that he is very kind.   When Gerwyn comes downstairs, expecting that it was the hospital, she informs him that it was Garry;
"Garry's going to pay you anyway"
“He says not to worry about work, and he will pay you anyway – people are very kind.”
"Scrambled egg, Diane"
Dai has made scrambled egg on toast for Diane, and asks if she wants ketchup;
Diane looks concerned when her phone rings
then her phone rings, and she looks very disturbed.
"Thanks for letting me know"
“Thanks for letting me know – I understand,” she says, and then advises Dai, “It was the police –
"They're suspending the investigation until they can talk to Jaclyn"
“they’re suspending the investigation until they can talk to Jaclyn – but what if she doesn’t get better?”
Dai tells her not to think like that;
"The main thing is that the police believe you"
“The main thing is that the police believe you.”
"No, Dai – they're waiting for Jaclyn to recover"
She corrects him that they are waiting for Jaclyn to recover.   “If they thought for a second that you were to blame, they would have arrested you by now, definitely!” he points out, and she thinks that perhaps she is right.
"This is good news, Diane!"
“And they said the car was not to blame, so this is good news, Diane!” he goes on.
"I might go down to the village later""
She thinks that she may accompany him down to the village later, which is a weight off Dai’s mind.
"I've been trying to get hold of Iolo for days!"
has gone to Y Felin, where he tells Siôn and Anita that he has been trying to get hold of Iolo for days.   They say that they have not heard from him, and Tyler frets, “I have no idea where he is!”
Anita notes, with some surprise, that Tyler is worried;  he stresses that he is worried about them both.
"Pity you didn't worry about them before sleeping with that boy!"
“Pity you didn’t worry about them before sleeping with that boy!” Anita snarls, and Siôn is sure that Iolo and Greta will be fine.
"I have a right to know where my daughter is!"
“I’ve sent loads of messages – I’m thinking of going to the police,” says Tyler, “I have a right to know where my daughter is!”
"You lost that right when you were unfaithful to Iolo!"
but Anita maintains that he lost that right when he was unfaithful to Iolo.
"I just want to know they're OK!"
“You’re right – I don’t deserve any favours – I just want to know they’re OK!” he pleads,
"We would have heard if anything had happened"
and Siôn remarks that they would have heard if something had happened.   “Look, if Iol gets in touch, just tell him I love them both – OK?” Tyler asks.
Then Iolo and Greta come downstairs
He leaves the house, and as soon as he has gone, Iolo comes downstairs, carrying Greta.
"I don't know what I'm going to do if you don't get better . . ."
Dylan stands by Jaclyn’s bed and tells her, “I’m so sorry – I don’t know what I’m going to do if you don’t get better –
". . . and I don't know what I'm going to do if you do!"
“I don’t know what I’m going to do if you do!”   As he strokes her hair,
He is not planning to sabotage the medical equipment, is he?
he adds, “I hope that you can forgive me,” and kisses her.
"How are things, Brenda?"
Dai visits number 10;  “I saw Gerwyn’s car outside – how are things now?”   Brenda tells him there is no change, and that Gerwyn has come back for a rest, but he is not coping at all.   Dai had been hoping for some good news.
"I know exactly how you feel – Diane is heartbroken"
Gerwyn comes downstairs, and Dai tells him, “I just called in to see you how you are and just sympathise – I know exactly how you feel.”   Gerwyn very much doubts that, but Dai goes on that Diane is heartbroken.
"Good!   I'm glad she's suffering!"
“Good!” growls Gerwyn, “I’m glad she’s suffering!”
Dai makes a  hasty exit
and Brenda thinks it advisable that Dai should come back another time.
"Look, you're going to make yourself ill!"
“Look, you’re going to make yourself ill!” she warns Gerwyn, but he roars that Dai makes him feel ill;
"All the evidence suggests that Diane was not responsible"
“All the evidence suggests that Diane wasn’t responsible for the accident,” his mother reminds him, “But Jaclyn was in the middle of the road.”
"Mam's all right, isn't she?"
Tesni returns home and thinks something has happened;  she demands, “Mam’s all right, isn’t she?”
"Ger, you'd better go and have a lie down"
and Brenda considers it best that Gerwyn should go upstairs for a lie down.
She instructs Tesni that she and her brother should go to the hospital;  “I’ll stay here to sort your father out.”
"No, Guto – no change"
When Guto comes in, he assumes  that their mother must be getting better, as their Dad’s car is outside, but is informed that there is no change.
"Tyler is terribly worried"
Siôn advises Iolo that Tyler is terribly worried;  Anita rather callously says that is his problem.   Siôn poses the question, “How would you feel if Tyler took Greta away, and we couldn’t get hold of them?”
"Well, you've changed your tune, Siôn!"
Anita is surprised that he has changed his tune,
"You're right – it's cruel not to contact him"
but Iolo concedes that his father is right, and it is cruel not to contact him.   “We can’t hide here for ever, can we?” he says.   Anita is more than happy to have them at Y Felin for as long as they want, and she loves having Greta there.
Iolo suggests to Greta that they go to get a rice cake,
"I don't think he'll ever be able to forgive Tyler for what he did"
and Siôn remarks, “Poor Iolo – I don’t think he’ll ever be able to forgive Tyler for what he did.”
Anita grumbles, “So you’re willing to accept that Iolo can’t forgive Tyler,
"But you're judging me for not forgiving Kelly!"
“but you’re judging me because I can’t forgive Kelly!”
"She hasn't done anything wrong"
He points out that Kelly has not done anything wrong.   Anita is insistent that she has;
"She chose to reject her child!"
“She chose to reject her child – I just can’t understand that, Siôn!”
"You have to stay strong, Ger"
Brenda tells her son that he has to stay strong;  “You don’t want Jac to recover and then have to look after you because you’re ill.”
"She might not recover, Mam"
He points out that perhaps she will not recover, and his mother tries to convince him that the worst is over, and that Jaclyn is going to be all right.
You said that when Dad was ill"
You said that when Dad was ill,” he reminds her, “I can’t carry on without her, Mam –
"It just doesn't work without Jaclyn by my side"
“it just doesn’t work without Jaclyn by my side.”
She replies that she could have said that when they lost his father;
"I didn't know how I was going to cope"
“I was frightened – I didn’t know how I was going to cope without him, my best friend.   Ned was the only person who really knew me – and despite that, he still loved me!   He made me feel completely safe – I haven’t really felt safe since he’s been gone.
"I didn't want you to watch me suffer as well"
Losing your father was painful enough for you without watching me suffer as well – I just had to carry on.”
"I'm not as strong as you, Mam"
Gerwyn groans that he is not as strong as her, but she points out it is not a matter of strength;
"You just have to put one foot in front of the other"
“You just have to put one foot in front of the other, until it becomes a habit – I got through it, and you’ll get through it as well – if you have to.   You, me and the children.”
Tyelr returns to the empty house . . .
Tyler walks into number 7, and looks around the room;
. . . in an emotional stare
he is in a very emotional state, picks up his briefcase
He throws the school paperwork on the floor
and then throws all the school documents on the floor.
This time, Tyler takes it out on that poor Christmas tree
He turns and knocks the Christmas tree across the room, collapsing into the chair in tears. He picks up one of Greta’s soft toys and weeps piteously.
Dai comes home with flowers
Dai arrives back at Bryntirion with some flowers for Diane;
"What's happened, Dai?"
she wonders if something has happened, and he informs her, “I thought it would be a nice idea if I walked you down to the village.”
She suspects that something is going on,
"Can't a man buy his wife flowers without some unterior motive?"
and he groans, “Good grief – can’t a man buy his wife flowers without her thinking there is an ulterior motive?”   He assures her that there is no further news about Jaclyn;  “It’s common knowledge,” he says,
"Have you been to the hospital?"
and she concludes that he has been to the hospital.
"I called at number 10 to see if Gerwyn has calmed down"
He denies that, but admits he did call in to see Gerwyn.   “I wanted to see if he had calmed down a bit.”
"He'll never forgive me – all right?"
Diane is quite convinced, “He will never forgive me, all right?   Why didn’t you stay away?”
"Where are you going, Diane?"
She walks towards the door, and he demands where she is going.
"Away from you!"
“Away from you!” she replies.
"Has Mam said anything?"
As they sit around Jaclyn’s hospital bed, Tesni asks Dylan if she has said anything;  “Nothing that makes any sense,” he replies.
Jaclyn moves for a moment
Suddenly Jaclyn momentarily stirs, but then lies motionless again.
"She just needs time, Tes"
Guto tries to convince his sister that their mother just needs time, but Tesni realises that it is taking too much time;
"She's not getting better as quickly as she should be"
“She should be sitting up and talking to us now.”   Guto demands what she means, and she replies, “Mam’s not getting better as quickly as she should be, that’s all,”
"Why aren't they doing something, then?"
and Guto wants to know why someone is not doing something in that case.   “Perhaps there’s nothing they can do!” concludes Tesni,
Guilt-ridden Dylan
and they all look very sombre, particularly guilt-ridden Dylan.
