Mark enjoys a warming cup of tea
As Mark is enjoying cup of tea in the café, Colin greets him, “Hey, partner!   Do you have any more firewood you need to sell?”   Mark replies that he has run out, and there is no more to be had at Penrhewl;  he will have to get it somewhere else now.      “That’s a pity – the cash was handy,” Colin remarks.
"Unfortunately, firewood doesn't grow on trees!"
“Unfortunately firewood doesn’t grow on trees!” Mark alleges,
Anita phones with another order
then his phone rings;  it is Anita who wants another delivery of logs.   He lies that he has some more;
"I wanted to sort out the best logs for you"
“But I wanted to sort out the best ones before bringing them over.”
"I heard that Debbie was working here again"
Colin had heard that Debbie was working at the café again, and Mark says that she is enjoying it.   Colin is surprised that he has talked to her, and wonders if they are getting on well;  “No hope of sorting things out?” he asks, and Mark does not think that is going to happen.
"And are you all right about that?"
“Are you all right about that?” is Colin’s next question, “I didn’t want to mention it last week.”
"My problem is to find more logs"
Mark points out that, yes, he is all right, but Colin cannot help being worried about him.   Mark’s major problem now is to find more logs, as he has two more orders,
"That's right – it's good to keep busy"
and Colin advises him to keep busy;
"You know where I am, Mark"
“Remember, if you need any help, just get in touch – you know where I am, Mark.”
"How did you get in?"
Izzy comes downstairs after taking a shower, just as Hywel is walking into the house;  she expresses astonishment, and he thought that she was in work.   “I’m off today – how did you get in?” she demands, and he says that Gaynor had a key cut for him.
"She could have told me!"
“She could have told me!” Izzy shouts, and when her mother comes in,
"Why didn't you tell me?   I could have been naked!"
snarls, “Why didn’t you say you had a key cut for Hywel?   I could have been naked!”
"If you're that worried, go and get dressed!"
Gaynor irritably tells her, “If you’re that worried, go and get dressed!”
"I waited for two hours for Angharad!"
Hywel can see that something is wrong, and Gaynor replies, “Angharad!   She and her family were supposed to be at the school today – I waited for two hours, and when I phoned there was no answer.”
"There must be some explanation"
He maintains that there must be some explanation.
Gaynor growls, “Yes – it’s Angharad!   She hasn’t changed – and do you know what?
"I'm not sure that this husband and child even exist!"
“I’m not sure if this husband and child even exist!”
"That's a bit harsh, Gaynor"
Hywel considers that she is being unnecessarily harsh.
There is no scrap timber at APD
At APD, Mark comes in, looking for firewood, but is told by Mathew that all their scrap wood has just been taken away in a skip.   “Where am I going to find wood now?” Mark demands
"You could try a forest!"
and Mathew suggests that he might try a forest.
"Thanks for helping so much at the house"
At that moment, Tesni rather hesitantly enters the shop and asks how Mathew is;  she wanted to say thanks for helping so much the other day at the house.
"We really do appreciate it"
“And you too, Mark,” she adds, “We really do appreciate it.”
She has just come from hospital, and reports that they were hoping that her mother was improving, but she still has not come round.   “Thanks for the note,” she says,
"It was Brenda's idea  – but I meant every word"
and Mathew admits that it was Brenda’s idea, but that he meant every word.   If she ever wants to talk, he assures her that he is there for her;
"I'd better go"
rather embarrassed, she smiles and leaves APD.
"I think she wanted you to ask her out"
Mark advises, “Look, I’m no expert, but I think she wanted you to ask her out.
"If you're not there for her, she might find it somewhere else"
She needs some support, and if you’re not there for her, she might find it somewhere else.”
A doctor peruses Jaclyn's notes . . .
In the hospital, a doctor is looking at Jaclyn’s notes when she starts moving and breathing erratically;
. . . then checks her temperature
he checks her temperature, then calls for a nurse
"Phone radiology!"
and puts an oxygen mask on Jaclyn.    “Phone radiology –
The nurse hurries to follow his instructions
“we’re bringing down a patient for a CT scan,” he instructs.
Izzy is still furious with her mother
At Llwyncelyn, Izzy is still in a bad mood, and her mother apologises for not telling her about Hywel’s key;  although she has been busy, she should have told her daughter.
"Why does he need a key anyway?"
Izzy does not know why Hywel needs a key anyway;  “There’s no reason for him to be here when you’re not!” she insists.
"I don't want Eifion just waltzing in!"
Gaynor recalls that she has found Eifion on that sofa several times, while Izzy is at work;  “It’s just as well that he doesn’t have a key – I don’t want him just waltzing in!”
"I could say the same about Hywel!"
Izzy rages that she could say the same about Hywel,
"This is my home and I can do what I want!"
but Gaynor angrily replies, “This is my home and I can do what I want!   This is all Angharad’s fault!”   Hywel stresses that she cannot blame Angharad for everything.
Mathew is keeping a careful lookout
Mathew is watching from the door of APD, and when Tesni emerges from number 10, he rushes across the road,
"Would you like to go for a coffee?"
and asks if she wants to go for a coffee.   “Please don’t think I’m using your mother’s situation to get you back – I just want to be there for you as a friend.   How about in an hour?”
"I'll see you in an hour, then"
Tesni is in favour of this, and at the moment is just going to the shop.
"I could have been naked, Britt!"
Izzy meets up with her father and Britt at the Deri, and moans, “Guess what?   “Mam’s given Hywel a key to the house!   He walked in on me just after I’d had a shower!   I could have been naked, Britt!”
Colin does not like the thought of Izzy alone with Hywel
Colin does not like the thought of her in a house on her own with Hywel Llywelyn;  “It’s not funny!” he tells Britt, but she comments that he is middle-aged,
"Even if he did see her naked, there's nothing he could do about it!"
and even if he did see Izzy naked, he could not do anything about it.
Colin points out, “Hywel and I are about the same age – I’m obviously a bit younger.”   Britt suggests that they have a bottle of wine, as it is Friday and that she could do with one.
"You offered to help, Col"
Mark comes over to remind Colin that he offered to help,
"Do you want to sit somewhere quiet, so we can talk?"
so Colin asks if he would like to sit somewhere quiet so they could talk.
"No, Col – help with finding wood"
“I need to go to the woods to find firewood, and I need some help,” Mark explains, which Colin takes to mean emotional help;  “I shall be emotional if I don’t fill these orders!” Mark exclaims, “Do you want some extra cash?”
"You don't mind if I go to the woods with Mark, do you?"
Colin tells Britt that he is going to the woods with Mark;
"Depends what you're going to do there, Col!"
“Depends on what you’re going to do there!” laughs Britt.   She has no objections, but says that she and Izzy are going online to look for a huge dressing gown;  “In case Hywel Llywelyn is on the prowl again!”   She is warned by Colin not to overdo it with the wine.
There is a frantic knocking on the door of Llwyncelyn,
Angharad puts on an hysterical performance . . .
and Gaynor is dismayed to see Angharad there;  she is, it appears, in a very troubled state and is sobbing piteously.
. . . and cries on Gaynor's shoulder
She hugs Gaynor and cries on her shoulder.
"I want to chop trees down"
Out in the woods, where the rain is falling, Colin picks up some pieces of firewood, but Mark stresses, “I’m not collecting wood off the ground – I want to chop trees down!”
"You can't chop them down willy-nilly"
but is warned that he cannot chop them down willy-nilly, as it is against the law.
"I'm looking for some that have almost fallen down"
“I’m looking for some that have almost fallen down – rotten ones – we might as well have them,” he continues, while Colin argues they cannot chop down trees without permission, and he recalls the fuss when he sold Christmas trees years ago.
"You stole them, didn't you, Col?"
Mark points out that he stole them, but this is common land;  Colin insists that this woodland is owned by somebody, but is asked, “Do you want to make a bit of cash, or what?   Go, if you want, and I’ll find someone else to help me.”
Angharad is given a glass of water
Hywel gives Angharad a glass of water, and Gaynor asks if she feels better;
"I didn't have anywhere else to go"
Angharad is still crying rather extravagantly, and explains, “I didn’t have anywhere else to go!   I was on my way to the school to see you – I was meeting Jeremy and Delyth there.
"He's taken Delyth back to Scotland!"
“Then he phoned – he’s taken Delyth back to Scotland!”
"I thought things were better between you"
Gaynor had been under the impression that things were better between them, and Angharad says she had thought the same;  “Jeremy heard that a member of the school staff had been sacked for something sexual – and he wasn’t very happy about that.
"He had no intention of moving back here"
“But that was just an excuse – he had no intention of moving back here – or to reconcile with me!”   Gaynor appears to have been taken in by this, as Angharad continues to wail,
"I've lost everything!"
“I’m never going to see Delyth again!   Jeremy’s got piles of money, and a lot of influence – I’ve lost everything – my flat, everything!”
Jaclyn is breathing extremely rapidly
In the hospital, we can see that Jaclyn’s breathing has become unnaturally rapid.
"Suitable for pervy visitors!"
Britt has found a high-necked fleece dressing gown;  “Suitable for winter – and pervy visitors!” she remarks,
"Your mother has a terrible taste in men"
“Your mother has a terrible taste in men – Hywel, then Elgan – what a drip he was – and now Hywel again!”
"Oh yes – Colin as well!"
Izzy reminds her, “She was married to Dad as well!”   They have another drink.
"We're just waiting for her to come round"
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Deri, Tesni tells Mathew that they are just waiting for her mother to come round;  “I thought things were changing two days ago, but there’s been nothing since then.”
"I wish I could do something"
Mathew feels terrible and wishes he could do something,
"You are – you're here with me"
but she points out that he is doing something – he is here with her.
"And Sioned's learning how to tow a trailer"
He says that he is helping Rhys out in the gym, and Sioned is learning how to tow a trailer on the farm, but not much else is happening;  “Except thinking about you.   Tes, I’m so sorry I got drunk and behaved like an idiot!” but she does not care about that now, as it is not important compared with what has happened.
The beginnings of a reconciliation
“Does that mean that you forgive me?” he enquires, and she smiles at him.
"I think I'm lost, Colin"
As they continue trudging through the woods, Mark comes to the conclusion that he is lost.   “I knew it – I knew you weren’t right –
"You're lost, mentally and emotionally"
“you’re lost mentally and emotionally,” Colin tells him, “This looking for logs business is a cover –
"You're looking for love, aren't you?"
“you’re looking for love, aren’t you?”
"No – I'm looking for wood, Col!"
Mark looks horrified at him, and points out that he is lost in the woods;  “I’m not looking for love – I’m looking for wood, all right?   You’re a good friend, Col, but I’m fine, honestly.
"I'm going to spend a few days with Ricky"
“I’m not lonely – I’m going to Cardiff tomorrow, to spend a few days with Ricky – I’m having a second Christmas with my son.”
"Aaron wants to call me Dad now"
Colin recalls that Aaron gave him a lovely Christmas present;  “He wants to call me ‘Dad’ now – I know I’m not his real father, but it doesn’t make any difference.”
Mark comments, “If you were his father, he could have inherited that nose!”
"Britt's drunk in the Deri!"
then Colin receives a text from Garry, complaining that Britt is drunk in the Deri, so he had better go, and he leaves Mark to continue searching.
Jaclyn is diagnosed with a Subphrenic Abcess
In the hospital, the doctor again calls for a nurse and informs her that Jaclyn has a Subphrenic Abcess;  “Phone her husband – we have to drain it.”
She does not respond to the doctor's voice . . .
He speaks to Jaclyn, asking if she can hear him,
. . . and he sounds the emergency alarm
then calls for help and presses the emergency alarm.
"There must be something you can do to get her back"
At Llwyncelyn, Angharad continues her profuse apologies, and Gaynor is sure there must be something she can do to get her daughter back.
"The first thing I have to do is find somewhere to live!"
“The first thing I have to do is find somewhere to live,” Angharad whines. “Or I will never see her again!”   Gaynor maintains that it is a pity she gave up her flat, but she says she anticipated things would turn out differently.   She thanks them both for being so kind.
"Any possibility I could stay here for a few days?"
Then Angharad moves to the next stage of her plan, “Please say no if it’s inconvenient, but is there any possibility I could stay here, just for a few days, until I find somewhere else to live?”
Hywel and Gaynor look at each other
Gaynor and Hywel look at each other, but say nothing, and Angharad remarks that she does not blame them at all;
"I'll get my bag and go!"
“I’ll get my bag and then I’ll go!”
"Come on, Britt – home, now!"
Colin arrives at the Deri and tells Britt that she has had enough, and is going home;  “No man is going to tell me what to do!” responds Britt,
"You only want to have your wicked way with me, Colin Evans!"
“You only want me back in the flat to have your wicked way with me, Colin Evans!”
"She's plastered, thanks to you!"
Colin reprimands Izzy for letting Britt drink so much, when she is on medication;  “She’s plastered, thanks to you!”
"You're all on my back today!"
As usual, Izzy complains:  “I feel like I’m 12 years old – you and Mam have been on my back today!”
"I've found the perfect tree"
Mark has managed to find his way back to the village and informs Colin that he has located the perfect tree, which he thinks is an oak, but Colin does not want to break the law.   “We’ll be doing the council a favour – it’s almost dead,” Mark emphasises, “Come with me first thing tomorrow, because I can’t manage by myself!”
"Lumberjacks are sexy – it's the check shirts!"
Colin is very reluctant to cut down trees, but Britt says that lumberjacks are sexy;  “It’s the check shirts!”
Mark will take the chainsaw
Mark will take the chainsaw and instructs Colin to bring a check shirt.
"Thinking of what you're going through breaks my heart"
Both Tesni and Mathew have missed each other;  “Thinking of what you’re going through breaks my heart,” Mathew tells her, “I couldn’t help you,” but she insists that he is helping her now,
Tesni is about to kiss him . . .
and leans forward to kiss him.
. . . but then receives bad news
However, at that moment her phone sounds, and her father informs her of the situation with her mother.   “Sepsis?” she exclaims, and hurries from the Deri.
"You know I don't trust her!"
“I know I should help her, but you know I don’t trust her,” explains Gaynor;  Hywel points out the mess that Angharad is in, and demands what she is likely to do.
"There must be something seriously wrong with her if this is all lies"
“There must be something seriously wrong with her if all this is lies,” he argues, but Gaynor still does not want her in the house;  however neither does she feel she can refuse.
Angharad's plan is working as intended
Hywel steps in and points out he has a house in the village;
"You could stay at my house if you like"
“You can stay there if you like – I’m not there very often, and you would have plenty of space.”
"Oh, that would be great, Hywel!"
Angharad seems to relish this invitation, but Gaynor is understandably very suspicious, and decides that she cannot take the risk;
Gaynor does not trust him, either . . .
“No, I’m sure I can think of something,” she says,
. . . and glowers at him
looking pointedly at Hywel.
