8 January 2020 (2nd)

Diane is still in her dressing gown
Jason finds his mother still in her dressing gown, and informs her that he is on his way to Llanarthur;
"I've talked to Guto, and Jaclyn is getting better"
“But I just wanted you to know that I’ve talked to Guto, and Jaclyn is getting better.   She’s not out of hospital, but it’s just a matter of time.
"Do you fancy coming for a walk later?"
“Now then, do you fancy coming for a walk with me later?   Perhaps to the Deri for a drink?”
"When she gets better, perhaps"
Diane thinks she might do that, but only when Jaclyn gets better;  he encourages her that this is good news, and she agrees that they could go for some lunch.
"Somewhere away from Cwmderi"
“But somewhere out in the country – away from Cwmderi,” she stipulates, and he says he will see her later.   She looks slightly more happy now.
"This is what you call an amateur job"
Rhys is working in the gym when Dai approaches;  “This is what you call an amateur job,” he sneers, and Rhys demands what he wants.
"Taking out your problems on other people, are you?"
Hywel also comes in, and accuses Dai of taking out his problems on other people.
“I’m here on behalf of Yr Antur’s owners – I will be doing a complete inspection on this place when it’s finished, says Dai, adding,
"It won't be finished until 2025!"
“It will be 2025 by the look of things!”   He peers at the publicity leaflet and cannot imagine that it will be open by the date given;  “Despite the fact he’s on the phone to Mathew every two minutes!”
"He does have a point, you know!"
As Dai turns and leaves, Hywel points out that he does have a point;  “This place is a mess! I just wanted to see how things were going.”
"I'm working every hour of the day as it is"
Rhys sighs that he knows it is a mess, but he is working every hour of the day as it is, and has to fit the showers today, if he can;  “And I have to open in less than a fortnight, or I will lose the best period of the year,” he groans,
"Do you know how to tile?"
“Do you know how to tile?” but there is not much chance of his father doing that.
Garry is serving John Post
In the Deri, Garry has just served John Post, when Dani comes downstairs with two handfuls of pine cones,
"They're Seren's – she's learning about nature"
and explains to Kath that she keeps sitting on them, as they are everywhere.   Garry points out that they are Seren’s, and that she is learning about nature.
"Learning?   She's only two years old!"
“Learning?   She’s only two years old,” comments Kath, but Garry informs her that they start early these days,
"Some nurseries charge hundreds of pounds a week"
and some nurseries charge hundreds of pounds a week.
"To teach kids that are still in nappies?"
“To teach kids that are still in nappies?” says Kath, incredulously, “I’ll do it cheaper than that for you, if that’s what you want – teach Seren stuff.
"Stacey was one of the brainiest kids in the valley!"
“Don’t forget, Stacey was one of the brainiest kids in this valley!   That was down to me, because I spent so much time with her.”
"How do you explain Mark, then?"
Garry wonders, “How do you explain Mark, then?” and he is told that he will not find a kinder person then Mark, and that is also down to her influence.   Garry says that they will have to make sure everything is suitable, which Kath takes to mean that she is not suitable.
"I want to make sure she gets the best possible start"
“I just want to make sure that she gets the best possible start,” he maintains,
"You're starting to sound just like John White now!"
and Kath tells him he is starting to sound just like John White now, which amuses Dani.
"Is Tyler back yet?"
She asks if Tyler has been back, explaining that he has gone to see a solicitor;  “Do you want to show a bit of interest?” she enquires,
"You started all this on Christmas Day"
“Because you started all this on Christmas Day.”
"No, Dani – Tyler started this, not me"
Garry makes it quite clear that Tyler started all this, not him.
"Diane, haven't you got dressed yet?"
Diane is deliberating about what to wear when she goes out with Jason;  Dai comes in through the back door, and sighs, “Diane, haven’t you got dressed yet?   I thought you’d feel better now that Jaclyn is getting better.”
"Hiding here in your nightdress makes you look guilty"
She explains that she was looking for something to wear, but he points out, “Hiding here in your nightdress makes you look guilty.”
"What's wrong with you, saying something like that?"
Jason has just come in, and demands what is wrong with Dai, saying something like that.
Dai emphasises, “Nefi wen!   You’re supposed to be in Llanarthur, doing an estimate,”
"Don't blame Jason – he was checking I'm all right"
but Diane tells him not to blame Jason, as he only came home to check that she was all right.
"He doesn't appear to be helping – not from where I'm standing!"
“Well, he doesn’t seem to be helping – not from where I’m standing!” Dai complains, “Look at you!”   Jason is exasperated by Dai’s attitude.
Gwyneth checks Gwern's temperature
At number nine, Gwern is complaining of a stomach ache, but Gwyneth has found that his temperature is normal;  he says that he feels sick,
Cassie will have a word with him
and Cassie indicates that she will have a word with him.
"When you're ill, you get injections"
“I hate being ill,” she begins, “I don’t like injections – and if you’re ill, you get injections – well, I do.   That’s why I don’t pretend to be ill – are you going to tell me why you’re pretending?   Is there something worrying you?   Is that why you don’t want to go to school?   Has someone been horrible to you?”
Gwyneth takes notice of this
Gwyneth is listening to this.
"No, it's not that"
He replies that it is none of these things,
"I want to spend time with Dad –like he does with Seren"
but explains, “I want to spend time with Dad – like he does with Seren.
"They go and look at nature and things"
“They have fun, they go and look at nature and things – I want to do that, too!”
Kath visits Diane
Kath calls at Bryntirion, to see how Diane is doing, and she comes downstairs, ready to go out with Jason;
"Sit down, and I'll make a cup of tea"
she is pleased to see Kath, and will make her a cup of tea.
"This is all an act, Kath"
Dai is of the opinion that this is all an act, and she is definitely not all right;  “You should have seen her earlier in her dressing gown and pyjamas – I don’t know what to do.”
"She needs to talk to someone who knows what she is going through"
Kath suggests that what Diane needs is to talk to someone with experience of what she is going through;  “Some one to give her advice.”
Dai knows the very person
Dai thinks that she has hit the nail on the head, and rushes out of the house.
Hywel offers to buy Jason a pint
Jason comes into the Deri and asks for a pint;  Hywel offers to get it for him, for which Jason is very grateful.
"I need to ask you a favour"
“I need to ask you for a favour,” Hywel continues, “Could you spare a few days to help Rhys out?”
"With all due respect, Rhys sacked APD!"
Jason enlightens him that Mathew has been given time off to help Rhys, adding, “With all due respect, Rhys sacked APD!”   Hywel agrees that it was not the most sensible thing his son has done.   “Dai is still furious about it!” Jason remarks, and Hywel informs him that Dai was over at the gym just now, having a go at Rhys.
"What if I give you £50 a day?"
“Look, what if I give you £50 a day on top of what Rhys pays you?” Hywel suggests,
"My life wouldn't be worth living, Hywel!"
but Jason replies that his life would not be worth living if he took time off work.
"Iolo could get full custody"
Tyler comes into the Deri, advising Dani that the solicitor said Iolo could get full custody;
"That's not fair – you're her uncle!"
she protests, “That’s not fair – you’re her uncle!   The fact she’s related to you is the reason you got her in the first place.”
He points out that both of them have the same rights because they are her official parents;
"I'm going to lose them both, Dan!"
“But I’m the one who has been unfaithful – I’m going to lose them both, Dan!”
"You probably think I deserve it"
Tyler goes to the bar and orders whisky;  “You probably think I deserve it,” he comments, and Garry agrees that he does, charging him £3.65.   “You have no right to look down at me – you were unfaithful to Dani – we’re no different!” Tyler insists.
"You slept with a schoolboy – that's the difference"
Garry reminds him, “You slept with a schoolboy – that’s the difference between us!”
"Tyler has to prove Greta would be happier with him"
Upstairs in the Deri, Seren is playing while Dani is consulting the laptop;  “So Tyler has to prove Greta would be happier with him – according to this, anyway,” she says.   Garry considers that it is very interesting,
"I'm sure Seren can't wait to hear more about it"
and is sure that Seren cannot wait to hear more about Dani’s brother’s divorce.
"Don't pick a fight with me, Garry"
She protests that she is looking up stuff for Tyler, and Garry should not pick a fight with her.
“He can look that up himself,” argues Garry, “And then you wouldn’t have to use the TV and toys as a babysitter –
"Even better, Tyler could sort things out with Iolo"
“or, even better, Tyler could move back in and sort things out with Iolo.”   She is adamant that their relationship is over, and she is helping Tyler;  in any case, she stresses that Seren is fine.
"They still use it as an excuse to skip school, then?"
Hywel remarks to Cassie, “Children still use illness as an excuse to skip school, then?” and she replies that things have not changed since they were kids.
"Cass – just the woman I wanted to see"
Then Dai arrives at the bar;  “Cass – just the woman I wanted to see –could you do me a favour?
"Could you go and talk to Diane?"
“Could you go and talk to Diane, because you know exactly how she feels – about knocking someone down in a car.   I’ve got no chance – but you’ve been through it, haven’t you?”
"I don't think it would do any good, Dai"
Cassie doubts that talking to Diane about Gina would do any good, but Dai is desperate, and wants Diane to see there is a life after all this.
Dai is very insistent
“Look, I’d be really grateful if you could come over to Bryntirion, when it’s convenient to you – and today would be great!”
Now Seren is leaning about butterflies
Garry is teaching Seren about butterflies, and when Gwyneth comes into the room,
"The image of a perfect parent!"
she remarks, “The image of a perfect parent!   Gwern’s off school today – he’s not ill, but I think he’s feeling left out because you’re spending time with Seren while he’s at school.
"Gwern's worried you love Seren more that him"
“I think he’s worried that you love Seren more than him.”
"All he wants is a day off school"
Garry replies that the boy simply wants a day off school and will be fine tomorrow,
"I just wanted to warn you, Garry"
but she just wanted to warn him.
Against her better judgment, Cassie has gone to Bryntirion
Cassie has gone to Bryntirion;  “Dai thought it might help if you spoke to me, considering what happened with Gina,” she begins,
"Actually I feel a  lot better"
but Diane says that in fact she feels a lot better.
"No you don't, Diane – be honest with each other"
This is immediately disputed by Dai, who urges them to be honest with each other, and he will leave them to talk.
"Sorry he invited you"
Diane is sorry that he invited Cassie, and she had no idea that he had done so.   Cassie reminds her that he is thinking of her, but Diane confirms that she is feeling better, and will be going out with Jason later.
"The feeling comes and goes"
She is told that the feeling comes and goes;  “One minute you’re fine, and the next it hits you like a ton of bricks!” says Cassie, “I still feel guilty about it – it’s like cold water running through your body – you wish you could turn the clock back.”
"That's how I feel – all the time"
Diane knows very well what that feels like – all the time;
"But at least Jaclyn's getting better"
Cassie goes on, “But at least, Jaclyn’s getting better.   You’ll get through it with the help of your family and friends – and you have plenty of both.   But I will be honest with you – you never forget it completely.”
Diane is now more discouraged
Diane now looks discouraged.
At Hywel’s house, Rhys has been making a phone call, and tells his father he does not have time for lunch.   “You need help in the gym!” Hywel instructs him, “But you wouldn’t want my help –
"You need professional help"
“you need professional help – Mathew is only helping a couple of hours at night.   You need someone full-time, so I’ve asked Jason to come over, to see what we can sort out.”
"The gym is my business, Dad!"
Rhys argues that the gym is his business, but his father does not think that is going very well;  “You have to stop this, or you’ll make yourself ill again.”
Then there is a knock at the door, and it is indeed Jason, who wants to know what Hywel wants, as he is busy.
"If you want me to take time off, I cant!"
“If you want me to take time off work to help him, I can’t, because Dai would go mad!”
"I'm a Councillor – you're a construction company"
Hywel proposes that he may be able to change Jason’s mind, and to keep Dai happy;  “I’m a County Councillor – you’re a construction company – next time the council is looking for someone to do jobs for them, and you put in a tender . . .”
Jason appreciates where Hywel is going with this . . .
Jason can see what Hywel is intimating, and is sure that they can reach some kind of understanding;  he will pop in to see Rhys later.   Hywel looks extremely pleased with himself,
. . . but Rhys resents his father's interference
which is more than can be said for Rhys.
"Think of something to make Iolo look like a bad father"
In the Deri, Dani instructs Tyler, “You have to prove that you’re the best parent – try to think of something that will make Iolo look like a bad father.”   Tyler replies that he is not a bad father,
"OK, not bad, but just not as good as you"
so Dani re-phrases, “OK, not bad, but just not as good as you.”
"I'm going to accept Iolo's terms"
Tyler decide that he is going to accept Iolo’s terms, and see Greta three times a week, but Dani protests that he cannot just give in;  however it is up to him.
When she returns to the bar, Garry asks how Tyler is;
"He's decided to do what Iolo wants"
“I didn’t think you cared!” snarls Dani, “He’s decided to do what Iolo wants.”
"Do you think I love Seren more than Gwern?"
Garry has something else on his mind;  “Do you think I love Seren more than Gwern?” he asks, “Gwyneth says that Gwern thinks I do!   He’s off school today,” but Dani thinks he is playing his father.
"He really feels like he's missing out . . ."
Cassie, who has just arrived for her shift, believes there is more to it than that;  “He really feels like he’s missing out –
". . . you have to make sure he knows he isn't"
“you must make sure that he knows he isn’t.”
"I don't know whether we'll finish before Ffion gets back"
In Rhys’ Gym, Jason does not know whether they will be finished before Ffion gets back from Austria, but they will try their best.
"This is where you're going to do it!"
Then he realises, “I understand now – this is where you’re going to do it!   You don’t have to pretend – you can drop the act now.”
"What are you on about, Jase?"
Rhys wonders what on earth he is talking about.
"Right, Ffion knows about the ring"
“Right, Ffion knows about the ring,” Jason explains, “She found it!”   The awful truth dawns on Rhys, and he points out it is not an engagement ring, but Mathew’s ring for Tesni.
"It was Mathew's present for Tesni, and I was hiding it"
It was a present that he was hiding for Mathew, but then they finished.
"So your'e not planning to marry Ffion, then?"
“So you’re not planning to ask Ffion to marry you, then?” says Jason,
"What am I going to do, Jase?"
and Rhys is at a loss to know what he is going to do now;
"Well, you could emigrate!"
Jason cannot offer any useful suggestions, except that he could emigrate.
Gwern does not want to do anything
Gwyneth asks Gwern if he wants to play a game, but he sadly shakes his head;  neither does he want to go for a walk.
"I heard you were off school today"
Then Garry arrives, and comments, “I heard someone was off school today – you’re the best boy in the world, do you know that?   I was thinking perhaps you and I could do something.
"Seren's a bit small to go all that way"
“I need to collect more nature things for Seren up the Wenallt, and down by the river, but she’s too little to come with me.”
"I could come with you"
“I could come with you,” says Gwern, brightening up already.   Garry is very appreciative,
"We could go now, if you like"
and says they can go now if he would like to.   Gwyneth tells him to go and get his wellies, and thanks Garry for his intervention.
"You and your stupid ideas!"
At Bryntirion, Diane snarls, “You and your stupid ideas!   Why did you ask Cassie to come over?”
"But she's been through it, Diane"
Dai replies that she has been through it all and come out on the other side, but Diane stresses that she has not.
"I will never forget it!"
“She remembers every detail of what happened – she has made me realise that I will never forget it,” Diane groans,
"I felt so much better before she came over"
“I felt so much better before she came over.   I was in my dressing gown because I was looking for something to wear to go out with Jason, but I didn’t get a chance to tell you.   You were too busy thinking that you knew better – as usual!
Poor old Dai's best intentions have gone wrong again
“I’m going upstairs for a lie down.”
