"We're opening the school this afternoon"

As Ffion comes downstairs at Deri Fawr, she is advising Siôn on the phone, “We’re opening the school this afternoon so that Seren’s class can talk to a counsellor, poor things.   Although it’s the holidays, we still have a responsibility.”

"What the hell?"

Then she hears a noise outside and exclaims, “What the hell?   Listen, Siôn, can I phone you back?”

Ffion rushes out of the house

She rushes outside to see what is going on.

Hywel walks along the street to the deli, but find the place in darkness and the door locked.

Hywel notices the poster . . .

Then he notices what is stuck on the window outside – a photograph of Cai and the words, ‘Cai Rossiter child murderer’.

. . . and removes it

He immediately takes it down, but Cai himself is approaching from across the road.

"What have you got there?"

“What have you got there?” he asks Hywel, who tries to change the subject to the fact that the deli is closed.   “What’s that in your hand?” Cai demands and he is shown the poster.

"There's no need to ask who did this"

“There’s no need to ask who’s behind this, is there?” he says,

He tears down more of them

and marches across to the shop, where several of them have been attached to the windows.

Dyff appears to be making himself at home at Maes-y-Deri, with a photograph album, plus several cans in evidence.

"Here he is – Postman Pat"

Mark comes in and is greeted, “Here he is – Postman Pat – here you go,” as his father offers him a can.   “Breakfast for the ordinary folk, just like the old days – remember?”

"It's a terrible world!"

Mark is not in the mood;  “I can’t stop thinking about her – what kind of world is it, where a girl . . ?”   He gets no further as his father agrees that it is a terrible world – which is why it is important to keep the memories they have.

"Look what I found in the attic"

“Look what I found up in the attic – I was just looking for stuff,” Dyff continues and Mark is surprised that his father is getting sentimental.   “Come on, Mark – a couple of cans and we’ll talk about the old times – it will do you good.”

"Just one drink"

Mark agrees to just one drink and reminds his father, “Remember you can’t drink like you used to – you’re an old man now.”   Dyff points out that Mark is also old.

Hywel comes out of the shop . . .

Hywel comes out of the shop and as he approaches the deli again,

. . . and is accosted by Ffion

Ffion is complaining, “Hey, Quantum Hydro Works have put a portakabin in front of my house this morning!”   He asked whether she has talked to the company about it and she angrily replies, “They told me to speak to the council!”

"They my have access rights"

Hywel points out that they may have access rights, but her response is, “They can’t just use my drive without permission!”   He agrees that he will make some enquiries;

"Make sure you do!"

she snaps, “Make sure that you do this time!”

Colin makes a discovery

Colin comes into the MFC flat and is very dismayed to see several copies of this poster on the table.   Just then Britt walks in

"Why, Britt?"

and he demands, “Why?”

"Because it's true!"

“Because it’s true!” she answers.

Sioned is looking depressed

Sioned is sitting at the table in Penrhewl, looking totally depressed, as DJ comes downstairs to report that the twins are sleeping soundly, for which she is grateful.

"You look exhausted"

When he remarks that she looks exhausted,

"So would you if you'd been up all night"

Sioned informs him, “You’d be exhausted too if you had been up all night, expressing.”

He argues that he can help her with that;  “Well, the feeding anyway.”

She suddenly bursts into tears

She maintains that she is all all right, but just . . . then suddenly bursts into tears.

“Sorry,” she sobs, “I don’t even know why I’m crying.”

"There's nothing more important that you and the babies"

DJ assures her that nothing is more important to him now than her and the babies;  he begs her to let him help.

Mathew is phoning

Then his phone rings and he finds that it is a call from Mathew, which he quickly declines, although Sioned encourages him to answer it.

"You go upstairs and I'll sort out everything"

“Now, you go upstairs and I’ll sort out everything here,” he tells her.   She passes him the baby monitor and goes up.

Dyff and Marie are reminiscing

As they go through the old photographs, Mark comments, “Look at you there – I forgot you used to have hair!”

"I chose to shave it"

His father maintains that he chose to shave it, so Mark adds, “And I choose to dye mine this colour.”

They have not heard Kath come in

As Kath comes into the house,

"You were such a naughty boy"

Dyff reminisces, “You were such a naughty boy – arguing, swearing, stealing.”

"Wonder where I got that from"

Mark wonders where he got that from, the answer being, “Your mother!”

Kath does not like that

Kath shows some disapproval, listening to this, as Dyff goes on, “Well, we weren’t quite the Waltons, were we?”   Mark suggests they were more like Walton prison.

"It's incredible to be back here"

“We had fun, though – and it's incredible to be back here, after all these years.”

Mark says that his father should have come home years ago and Dyff agrees with this, but then, unfortunately, a message arrives on Kath’s phone and they are alerted by the noise.

"Sorry, I didn't know he'd be here"

“Sorry – I didn’t know he’d be here,” she says,

She wants Mark to deliver a card for her

“Can you give this get well card to Cheryl to give to Gaynor?”

"Stay and have a can of your favourite"

Dyff urges her to stay.

“What for?   To listen to more of your excuses?”   He wants her to stay for a drink and has a can of her favourite there.

“I haven't had that in years,” is her reply.

"Too much of a snob to drink beer from a can?"

“Oh yeah, I had forgotten – you’re too much of a snob now to drink beer from a can, aren’t you?” says Dyff,

“Here, Kath – one drink, for old times’ sake – please?”

"All right – but inky to prove a point!"

She snatches the can from him, stressing that it is only to prove a point.

"What happened to Seren was an accident"

Colin is trying to get through to Britt;  “What happened to Seren was an accident”.

"If Cai Rossiter had stayed in that Car . . ."

She is adamant, “If Cai Rossiter had stayed in that car like he was supposed to, Seren would be still alive.”   Colin reminds her that Cai must be feeling guilty enough as it is.

"Let the police finish their investigation"

They need to wait for the police to finish their investigation.

"Th middle classes look after each other!"

“The police?”she sneers, “Do you honestly think they’re going to charge a respectable teacher?   No – the middle classes look after each other!   If we really want justice for Seren, well, we have to do it ourselves.”

"You call this 'justice'?"

He snatches the posters from her;  “Justice?” he snarls, “That’s what you call this, is it?   Do you remember when Cai was so ill, he almost took his own life?   Something like this could push him over the edge –

"It's not going to bring little Seren back, is it?"

“and that’s not going to bring little Seren back, is it?   I want you to go over there and see him –

"I want you to apologise!"

“I want you to apologise.”

Britt cannot believe that he is serious, so he stresses,

"Too much blood has been spilled already"

“Too much blood has been spilled already in the valley without you calling for more!”

"When we first had to pick him up from the cop shop?"

“How old was this one the first time we had to pick him up from the cop shop?” demands Dyff,

"Stealing bubblegum"

“You were about 10 at the most.   You had been stealing bubblegum from the shop.”

"I almost got away with it . . ."

Mark recalls that he almost got away with it,

" . . . but it turned my tongue blue!"

“But the bubblegum turned my tongue blue.”   His father remembers that he told the policeman it was blue because he was ill and comments that they were good days.

"I was down that cop shop every two minutes"

Kath has other memories;  “I was usually down that cop shop to fetch you every two minutes – it was terrible.”   Mark recalls that life was more simple back then, when it was just the four of them against the world.

"If only these walls could speak"

“If only these walls could speak,” muses Dyff, but Kath says that if they could, he would be back in jail.   “I can’t believe that you kept hold of the place,” Dyff goes on.

"Not long before the estate is taken down"

Mark observes that it may not be long now before the estate is taken down, if those water people get their way,

"That's not going to happen"

but Kath is convinced that is not going to happen.

"I know where I'd put my money!"

Dyff predicts, “If it’s a bulldozer against Cath Jones, I know where I’d put my money.”

"What are you doing here?"

DJ is folding the washing at Penrhewl when Mathew walks in;  “What are you doing here?” says DJ.

"You wouldn't answer your phone"

It is pointed out that he has not been answering his phone and he maintains that he has been busy.

"Are yo8 going to pay that money today?"

“Are you going to pay that money today?”

DJ replies that it is complicated, but is told that he has had plenty of chances.

"You can't go to the police"

“You can’t go to the police – you have no proof now the money’s gone,” DJ whines, but is reminded that he confessed.   “Why are you coming after me?   Jason blackmailed me for half the money.”

"But you stoled it – right?"

Mathew reminds him, “But you stole it – right?”   DJ pleads with him not to go to the police –

"You can't do this to Sioned!"

he cannot do this to Sioned.   “Don’t use Sioned as an excuse,” he is warned, “She deserves better than you!”

Mathew is begged not to tell her, but insists that he is not covering for DJ any more.

Then Sioned appears

At that moment, Sioned comes in through the door and is greeted by Mathew with a hug;  he hands her a card which contains a voucher.

She says that the twins are asleep at the moment, but he is welcome to stay.

DJ is needed by Jason

DJ receives a phone call from Jason;  “I can’t – I’m busy with the babies at the moment – I’ll be there when I’m there, all right?”

He tells Sioned that Jason is hassling him about working in the Flamingos van, so she tells him to go;

"You go – Mathew's here"

“Mam will be home soon – and Mathew’s here now.”   DJ is sure that Mathew must have work to do,

Mathew shakes his head . . .

but he shakes his head.   Sioned urges DJ to go now, before Jason phones again and wakes the babies.

. . . and DJ leaves

As soon as he is out of the door,

"Are you going to tell me wha's going on?"

Sioned demands, “Come on – are you going to tell me what’s going on?”

"About what?"

Mathew looks worried,

"I want all the goss!"

but she goes on, “In the village, I mean – fill me in – I want all the goss!”

Britt bursts inton Y Felin

There is a knock at the door of Y Felin and Cai is surprised to find that Britt is there, carrying some more of her posters.

"I'm sure you've seen these"

“I’m sure you’ve seen these around the place,” she begins

"And I know who made them"

and he has a fair idea of who made them.

"This is only the beginning!"

“This is only the beginning,”she warns him, “I’m not denying it – I made them – and I can do a lot worse than this!”

"I can go to the police"

Cai replies that he can go to the police;  “You’re welcome to – but I know you were responsible for Seren’s death –

"I'm going to make sure everyone knows!

“and I’m going to make damn sure everyone knows it as well!”   Having said that, she storms out of the house.

"I haven't got time to waste here"

At Maes-y-Deri, Kath finds that her can is empty and picks up her coat;  “I haven’t got time to drink here and waste time talking about old times.   Some of us have work to do.”

Mark reminds her that the Deri is closed,

"A husband to look after – one I can trust!"

so she replies, “I’ve got a husband to look after – one I can trust!”   Dyff says that if she changes her mind, she knows where they are;

"I'll make you a bacon sandwich next time"

perhaps he will make her a bacon sandwich next time.

She cautions Mark, “Don’t let him near a frying pan ever again!

"I'm surprised the place hasn't burnt down!"

“I’m surprised that the place hasn’t burnt down!”

"Fancy a Pot Noodle, Dad?"

Mark ask if his father wants a Pot Noodle.

"Your mother has gone soft in her old age"

“Your mother has gone soft in her old age – she would have thrown that can at my head years ago,” observes Dyff

"She hasn't been herself for a while"

and Mark is pleased to see her enjoying herself, as she has not been herself for a while.

“She has been worried about Brynmor since he was ill – and then your resurrection!”

"What sort of bloke is this Brynmor?"

Dyff wants to know what sort of bloke this Brynmor is and whether he treats Kath well.   “Yes, he treats her like a queen – he is always spending money on her – but I’ve always wondered if he’s the right one for Mam.”

"Well, did you go and see him?"

Colin is reading the Western Post when he hears Britt coming back;  “Well, did you go and see him?”   She replies that she did;

"And did you apologise?"

“And did you apologise?”

"I told him this was only the beginning!"

“No – I told him this was only the beginning – do you want a sandwich?”

How long can Colin put up with this?

Colin despairs of her, but she is still insistent, “My niece is dead because of him!”

"Garry!"

“Garry!” shouts Colin, “Garry was just as much to blame – more, if anything!   If he hadn’t run away!”

"I can see whose side you're on!"

Britt can see whose side he is on,

"This isn't the way to sort things!"

but he continues to exclaim, “I know you need someone to blame – but this isn’t the way to sort things!”   Britt quickly retires to her bedroom and slams the door, leaving Colin furious.

Hywel arrives at Deri Fawr

Hywel arrives at Deri Fawr, carrying a basket of fruit;

"Did you get any sense?"

“Did you get any sense?” Ffion asks him.   He advises that in the contract it says that the company has the right to use the road outside for access.   However, Tom from Quantum has apologised – he is responsible for security – he acknowledged that he should have told you.   Hywel supposes that the hamper is his way of apologising.

"Trying to bribe me with a basket of bananas?"

“So Tom’s trying to bribe me with a basket full of bananas?” she demands,

"And there's a pineapple"

but Hywel points out that there is a pineapple as well.   “Are you mad?” she rages.

He has brought this over as a favour and emphasises it is nothing to do with him;

"You can do me a favour as well . . ."

“Well, you could do me a favour as well –

". . . tell Tom to stuff his pineapple!"

you can tell Tom to stuff his pineapple!” so he takes the basket and leaves.

"Another knock at the door"

Again, there is a knock at the door of Y Felin, where this time it is Colin,

"I wamt to apologise for Britt"

who has come to apologise for Britt’s behaviour.   Cai invites him to sit down

"Im told her to come and clear the air"

and he continues, “It’s my fault – I told her to come over to try and clear the air.”

"I should go to the police"

Cai maintains that he should go to the police and Colin can understand that,

"She can't face blaming Garry!"

but does not think that would stop Britt.   “You see, she blames you because she can’t face blaming Garry.”

Cai realises that he is not completely innocent;

"What ion I had stayed in the car with her?"

“I keep thinking, what if I had just stayed in the car with her?”

"It's not your fault, Cai"

Colin knows that it is not his fault,

"That's what people will believe"

but Cai answers, “Yeah, but if Britt keeps telling everyone it was my fault, that’s what people will believe.”

"Only one person can make her see sense"

Colin says that there is only one person who can make Britt see sense at the moment – and that is Dani.

Mark has burnt his mouth

Mark is drinking milk, as the Pot Noodle burned his mouth.

"As usual, you didn't listen"

His father scolds him, “I told you to wait a bit, didn’t I?   But, as usual, you didn’t listen.”   Mark, thanks him for taking his mind off things for a while and Dyff says that it was nice to talk about old times;  he is sure that Mark and his mother do that quite often.

"I'm going for a walk"

Mark is now going out for a walk to clear his head and is told by his father to get some milk while he is out;  “You’ve already drunk a whole carton.”

"Mam left her cardigan behind"

Mark discovers that his mother left her cardigan behind and intends to take it back.

"Running around after my parents"

“Nothing changes, does it?   Running round after my parents.”

"I'll take it back"

Dyff insists that he will take it back;  he and Kath will be fine.

Sioned has a forbidding look

Sioned sits with her face like thunder, awaiting the return of DJ.   “Blinkin’ Jason dragged me down to Flamingos and there was no need!” he complains,

DJ has brought her a chicken mayo roll

“But it wasn’t a complete waste of time, because I’ve brought you this.   Chicken mayo for Cwmderi’s busiest mother – it’s white bread, as a treat.”

"Are Jac and Lili all right?"

Her expression has not changed, so he asks whether Jac and Lili are all right.

"Why did you steal £23,000 from APD?"

“Why did you steal £23,000 from APD?” she asks.

He initially remains silent

DJ realises that the game is up, but cannot think of any excuse.

Finally, he says that he was in a bad place – they had just finished.

"So it's my fault that you're a thief?"

“So it’s my fault that you’re a thief?” she sneers.

"I was going to pay Mathew back"

He continues that he was angry and drunk – he was going to pay Mathew back;  “There was no reason to tell you.”

"You knew I'd never be able to trust you again"

Sioned knows why that is;  “You knew that I'd never be able to trust you again.

"Are you that selfish?"

“Are you that selfish that you didn’t even think what this could do to Jac and Lili?”

"I did it for them"

He argues that he did it for them, to support them financially;

"I don't want your dirty money!"

“I don’t want your dirty money!” she snarls, “We’re meant to be an example to them – is this the kind of father you want to be?

"I don't want you anywhere near them!"

“Because if it is, I don’t want you anywhere near them!”

He repeats that he is so sorry, but Sioned simply shakes her head;  “Mathew’s going to the police, you know – perhaps he already has.”

"I don't have it"

She gets up from her chair and instructs him, “You have to pay the money back!”   He tells her that he does not have it;

"Where is it?"

“What do you mean, you don’t have it?   Where is it?”

"It went up in the fire at the Deri"

He sighs that it went up in the fire at the Deri

This is too much for Sioned

and Sioned finds this totally incredible.

She slams down the baby monitor

She slams down the baby monitor in front of him,

"Give them a bottle each if they wake up!"

instructing, “Give them a bottle each if they wake up.”

"Where are you going?"

DJ demands where she is going, but she is out of the front door without another word.
