"At least four people are in there!" |
The fire brigade are at work at the front of the Deri. Mark reminds them that there are at least four people in there, “My Mam, my girlfriend – why aren’t you doing anything?” he shouts.
"Cool head, Mark" |
Dyff encourages him to keep a cool head.
Tom nips round to the back of the Deri |
While no-one is looking, Tom slips under the hazard tape and heads for the back of the Deri.
"Please don't go back to sleep!" |
Inside, Cheryl is still attempting to keep Gaynor awake; “Please don’t go back to sleep – I love you, you fool!”
"Is anybody there?" |
Suddenly, there is a loud thud, so Cheryl shouts out for help.
Her rescuer appears |
Tom appears in the doorway and starts removing the debris from Cheryl. “Gaynor needs a doctor,” insists Cheryl, but Tom continues with his efforts to free her, finally helping her towards the door,
"Gaynor needs help, Dave" |
as she still protests that Gaynor needs help more urgently than she does.
"I'm not leaving here without you' |
“Someone else will come for her – I’m not leaving here without you,” he says,
They inch their way out of the building . . . |
as they manage to squeeze out through the door.
. . . leaving Gaynor, who has heard every word |
Meanwhile, Gaynor has been listening to all of this.
Cai tries to prevent Lleucu from seeing . . . |
Outside the disused factory building, Lleucu is wrapped in an insulating blanket
. . . Seren's body being brought out |
as they watch the body of Seren being wheeled out to a waiting ambulance.
Dani is completely stunned |
Dani is following, unable to fully comprehend what has happened.
"You can't do this!" |
The police are taking away Garry, as Britt insists, “You can’t do this – he’s just lost his daughter!” Colin restrains her as the police car drives away, then she runs to Dani.
"I can't believe this has happened!" |
“I can’t believe this has happened,” she gasps, as a forensic team enters the building.
"Bwni Bwns" |
Dani follows them and when asked what she is doing, simply says, ‘Bwni Bwns’.
The rabbit has been rescued by Lleucu |
Nearby, Lleucu reveals that she is holding the toy rabbit.
Firemen are now going in |
The operation at the front of the Deri is in full swing and the Fire Brigade are now going into the building.
Tom has brought Cheryl out |
Tom appears from round the back, supporting Cheryl, and is directed to an ambulance.
"Cher, are you OK?" |
Mark shouts, “Cher, are you OK?”
She replies that she is fine, although she is obviously not, and points out that her sister is still in there.
The operation continues |
More members of the Fire Brigade go into the building.
Upstairs, Kath and Cassie are waiting patiently;
"Don't touch me, Judas!" |
“Don’t touch me, Judas!” snarls Kath and then a voice can be heard behind them;
Help is at hand |
they are about to be rescued.
"Who's this?" |
Outside, Dyff has managed to get hold of some bottles of water, one of which he gives to Cheryl, who asks who he is. Mark answers, “This is Dad.”
"I don't understand" |
She does not understand –
"You're not the only one!" |
and Mark’s father comments that she is not the only one.
Now Gaynor is wheeled out |
Gaynor is wheeled out on a trolley and taken straight to a waiting ambulance.
"Where's Brynmor?" |
Kath emerges from the front door, exclaiming, “Look at this place! Where is Brynmor? Has anybody seen him?”
She is not interested in Mark |
Mark hurries towards her, but she is only interested in finding Brynmor. Cassie follows her out.
Tom wants to accompany Gaynor in the ambulance, maintaining that he is next of kin, but this is immediately challenged by Cheryl; “As if!” she shouts, “I’m her sister!”
"You're in no fit state to go" |
He points out that they have not been on good terms and, in any case, she is in no fit state to go.
Cheryl is adamant she is going |
Cheryl challenges this and hobbles up the ramp into the ambulance.
Mark glowers at Tom |
Tom and Mark look angrily at each other, as a police car arrives in the High Street.
Gwern looks at the scene in front of him |
Gwern gets out and is astonished to see the state of the Deri.
Jinx hurries to Dani, asking if she is all right;
"Have you seen 'Bwni Bwns'?" |
however, her only concern is, “Have you seen ‘Bwni Bwns’? I can’t find him.” Jinx is totally confused.
Has he really slept though the explosion? |
It appears that Brynmor has slept through everything in the flat at Cysgod y Glyn now owned by his daughter, but awakens when the buzzer sounds.
"Come up, Kath" |
Kath is very relieved to hear the sound of his voice and comes upstairs.
"Why won['t you answer your phone?" |
“Brynmor, why won’t you answer your phone, love?” she wails.
Kath is in a terrible state |
He can see that there is something wrong and she hugs him.
Cheryl sits, waiting |
In the hospital, Cheryl is waiting for news about Gaynor when Tom brings her a cup of coffee,
She ignores Tom . . . |
advising that she needs to drink plenty of fluids if she has concussion.
. . . and keeps her distance |
She totally ignores him and when he sits down near her, she moves further away.
"As weak as dishwater" |
He takes one sip and remarks, “As weak as dishwater – that’s what you used to say about my coffee, remember?
She hears about her sister's injury |
“A cracked pelvis is nasty.” Cheryl wonders how he got this information; “Sorry, I thought you knew – I saw a doctor on the way in.”
"I've been waiting over an hour!" |
“What doctor? I’ve been waiting over an hour to see someone!” she shouts,
This attracts the attention of the staff |
attracting some attention from the staff. Tom assures her that Gaynor will be OK;
"We can see her in a minute" |
“The doctors are with her now and we can see her in a minute.”
He can see that she is in a terrible state, so reaches out to touch her;
"Don't!" |
“Don’t!” she snaps, “Why did you rescue me first?
"Gaynor needed more help than me" |
“It was obvious Gaynor needed more help than me.”
"Habit – or instinct" |
He puts it down to habit or perhaps instinct.
She instruct him that she will let him know if anything changes, but he is adamant that he is not leaving.
She wants him to go . . . |
“Dave, please!” she shouts,
. . . so he leaves her alone |
so in order to keep the peace, he does go.
"I can't get the image out of my head" |
Back at Y Felin, Siôn and Lleucu are sitting in silence; “I can’t get the image out of my head,” she says, something which Siôn can appreciate.
Cai brings in some tea |
Cai comes in with tea for the three of them.
Lleucu takes out her phone |
She picks up her phone to contact Gwern, but is told by her father to leave it for now.
She wants to know why, but he simply repeats that she should leave it;
"Why:" |
again she asks, “Why?”
"If it wasn't for you and Gwern . . ." |
“If it wasn’t for you and Gwern and your antics, none of this would have happened,” he says and she cannot believe that he would say that.
Lleucu storms off |
She storms off upstairs.
Siôn gives him a black look |
looks disapprovingly at him; he insists that he is just looking out for his daughter.
"What kind of future will she have?" |
“What kind of future will she have if she carries on like this?”
"Where's your compassion?" |
Siôn is outraged; “Where’s your compassion?” he demands.
"It could have been a lot worse" |
“No, you’re right – it could have been a lot worse,” says Mark, as he speaks to Cheryl on the phone, “I’ll see you later.”
"Are you and Cheryl 'established'?" |
His father is pleased to hear that and enquires whether Mark and Cheryl are ‘established’, which Mark regards as a rather posh word.
"You should go and support her" |
He suggests that Mark should go over and support her; “You’re good for nothing here.” Mark can see that his father’s hand is bleeding, but it is dismissed as nothing. However, he fetches the first aid box.
"Do you remember that red BMX?" |
“Do you remember that red BMX I had back in the day? The one with only one handle?”
"From Vince Ty Capel?" |
Dyff assumes that he got that from Vince Ty Capel
"Everything in our house came from him" |
and Mark recalls, “Everything in our house came from him.”
"I remember the old codger!" |
Dyff remembers the old codger; Mark continues that shortly before his father went to jail, he fell off it – for the second time, probably.
"I kept that plaster in a matchbox for years" |
“You put a plaster over the cut and told me not to make a fuss – that only little boys cry. I didn’t see you for about two years after that – I kept that plaster in a matchbox for years.
"I was a bit of a wimp when I was younger" |
“I was a bit of a wimp when I was younger and needed a kick up the backside.”
His father acknowledges, “I let you down – I was a terrible father – and you still welcome me with open arms.” Mark predicts that they have years ahead of them to catch up.
Mark has fetches couple of cans . . . |
Now he could certainly do with a drink and, as it happens, he has just the thing in the fridge.
. . . when the door opens |
Before they have a chance to drink it, the front door opens; Kath and Brynmor come in.
Dyff is about to shake hands with Brynmor, but Kath points out they are not there to make friends.
"I want you to pack your bags and go" |
“I want you to pack your bags and go back to the Canaries – that’s what I want!” she informs Dyff.
The policeman has just left |
A police officer has been interviewing at number 9 and is just leaving; Colin assures him they will help in any way they can.
Dani does not want Gwern to touch her |
Gwern reaches out for Dani’s hand, but she moves it away. Colin asks if anyone would like a cup of tea, but no one appears to be thirsty. As he searches in the kitchen drawers,
"Cupboard next tot he hob, Colin" |
Jinx directs him to the cupboard next to the hob, then offers to fetch Gabriel from the crèche,
Dani is 'out of it' |
but Dani appears to be in a trance.
She goes to check the bathroom |
Suddenly, she announces, “I’ll check in the bathroom,” and dashes upstairs.
"She's in shock" |
Colin explains that she is in shock,
"I don't know how you begin to deal with it" |
and Jinx does not know how you begin to deal with it.
"Dad's not going anywhere" |
Mark defies his mother; “Dad’s not going anywhere.” Kath urges him not to be deceived, as his father does not care about him at all.
"He didn't cry next to your bed, did he?" |
“You’ve been ill, remember? You almost died – you were in a coma. He didn’t cry next to your bed, did he? Or offer to be a donor?
"I would have been here like a shot!" |
Dyff maintains that was different, as he did not know until Mark came round, or he would have been there like a shot. Kath describes that as rubbish;
"After everything he's put us through!" |
“I don’t know how you can look at him after everything he’s put us through!”
"I've prayed for this, Mam" |
Mark says that he has prayed for this; “Every night for years – even though I don’t believe in God. And now he’s here – it’s a miracle, don’t you think?”
"Well, he's a very cruel God!" |
Kath’s opinion is, “I’ll tell you, if there is a God, he’s a very cruel God!”
Brynmor follows her out |
She walks out of the house, followed by Brynmor.
Dyff says that he is also going, but Mark tries to persuade him,
"Don't listen to Mam" |
“Don’t listen to Mam – she’ll come round.”
Then his father reveals that he does not want to miss visiting time at the hospital. Mark says that Dan will be none the wiser whether he is there or not.
"We can watch Die Hard 2!" |
He can come back later and then they can watch Die Hard 2 – his favourite.
"Sorry, boy" |
“I’m going to stay with Dan overnight,” Dyff tells him, “Sorry, boy.”
Mark is downcast |
Mark looks very disappointed.
"Have you seen Seren's toy bunny rabbit?" |
Cai comes out of the shop with a box of chocolates, just as Colin emerges from number 9 and asks, “Have you seen Seren’s toy bunny rabbit anywhere? Dani’s looking everywhere for it.”
"She had it outside the warehouse" |
Cai remembers that she had it outside the warehouse but does not know if she had it when . . . Here his voice tails off. Colin assumes that the police have picked it up.
Lleucu is out for some fresh air |
Lleucu comes along, out for some fresh air and her father hands her the chocolates,
"Did you see Seren's teddy?" |
apologising for not thinking before opening his mouth. “We’re all in shock. Do you remember seeing Seren’s teddy in the warehouse?”
"It was a rabbit – and I picked it up" |
She corrects him that it was a rabbit; “I picked it up after they took Seren –
"Seeing it left just like that . . ." |
“just seeing it left like that . . .”
"You had no right!" |
He admonishes her that she had no right to take it, stressing that Dani is looking everywhere for it.
She maintains that she took it to the car, but does not know what happened to it after that, so he walks away in disgust;
"Go hime Lleucu!" |
“Go home, Lleucu, where you can’t cause more trouble!”
"He seemed like a decent guy" |
At Cysgod y Glyn, Brynmor remarks that Dyff seemed like a decent guy, something with which Kath does not agree. “And now you know that he’s alive . . .”
"They let me think I was a widow!" |
She insists that as far as she is concerned, he is not alive; “That coward – and my best friend – let me think I was a widow for over 20 years.”
"It was to protect you" |
Brynmor points out that it was to protect her,
"How am I supposed to accept that?" |
but she goes on, “How am I supposed to accept that kind of deception?”
"You have a chance to forgive" |
Brynmor suggest that she could try to move on; now that she knows the truth, has a chance to forgive.
"You really think that what the swines deserve?" |
“Forgive? You really think that’s what those swines deserve, do you?” He reminds her that Cassie was trying to protect her. “I don’t need to be protected by her.
"I'm going to make sure they regret it!" |
“Cassie and Dyff made a big mistake, deceiving me like that. I’m going to make sure that they regret it!”
"I'd like to speak to Garry Monk" |
Britt is on the phone; “I’d like to speak to Garry Monk, please – it’s his sister.”
Dani is still searching |
When Dani comes back downstairs, still looking for the missing toy, she says she will phone back later.
"It's the sort of thing you'd do" |
“Did you take ‘Bwni Bwns’? It’s the sort of thing you’d do!” ani accuses Gwern. Britt tells the boy to go upstairs,
"I saw him in the car!" |
and Dani suddenly realises, “I saw him in the car – he must be in the car!”
She s becoming hysterical |
She is becoming hysterical.
At that moment, there is a knock at the door and Britt furiously answers it,
No-one is around |
but finds that there is no-one in sight.
The rabbit is outside the door . . . |
As she is about to walk back into the house, she notices the offending toy sitting outside the door, picks it up and goes inside.
. . . presumably returned by Cai |
Cai is watching from his hiding place in the alley.
“Where did you find him?” Dani asks and when told that he was on the doorstep,
"He found his way home!" |
she is convinced, “He found his way home!”
"Come and sit down, Dani" |
Britt persuades her to sit down on the sofa; “It’s going to be OK – I don’t know what to say – I have no words tonight.
"We're all lost together" |
“We’re all lost, but we’re lost together. It will be on the news tomorrow and everyone will know. We all need to be ready, so what I’m trying to say is, don't allow yourself to be lost for too long.
"Even Bwni Bwns came home in the end" |
Even ‘Bwni Bwns’ came home in the end.”
Britt hugs Dani |
She hugs Dani.
