Jason is searching the kitchen cupboards |
Jason is searching in the kitchen cupboards when there is a knock at the door;
There is an urgent knocking |
it is repeated, more violently, so he thinks he had better answer it.
It is Kelly |
He is very surprised to find that it is Kelly, who begins, “Let’s be clear – I’m not here because I forgive you, right?”
"You're the last person I expected to see" |
Jason says she is the last person he expected to see;
"What you did was not normal, like" |
“Even so, what you did, Jase, was not normal, like. To go to those extremes – letting the people who love you think you’re dead! I can only think of two explanations – one, you’re either unbelievably selfish – or two, you need help. And I really hope you need help, because what you did . . .”
She gives a card to him |
She takes a card from her pocket and hands it to him,
"Sort yourself out, Jase" |
advising, “Sort yourself out, Jase.” He can see that it is a counsellor; “Do you want to see Ifan again?” she asks.
Ieuan makes his breakfast |
Ieuan is in his dressing gown the kitchen of number 7, preparing his breakfast cereal, when an message alert arrives on his phone.
He manages to spill the milk . . . |
He is so intent on looking at it that he spills the milk. Whatever the message may contain,
. . . then dashes upstairs to get dressed |
he immediately drops everything and goes rushing upstairs to get dressed.
"What's the alternative?" |
Kelly sits down on the sofa and demands, “What’s the alternative? Pretend everything is hunky-dory and forget you disappeared for four months? At some point you have to face up to what you did – or you’re not going to see Ifan again – do you understand that?”
"I'm going to explain to Sara" |
He replies that he is going to talk to Sara; “I’m going to explain.”
"She doesn't want you anywhere near Ifan" |
Kelly stops him there, informing him that his mother phoned Sara last night. Sara does not want Jason anywhere near Ifan – not for a long while.
"She doesn't have the right to do that" |
Jason maintains that she does not have the right to do that.
"She is perfectly entitled to do it" |
“She’s perfectly entitled to do it, Jase – and do you know what?
"I wouldn't let you have access to him!" |
I wouldn’t let you have access to him after what you’ve done!” Kelly growls.
"I don't want access – I want him back`!" |
Jason exclaims that he does not want access; “I want him back!”
"Not going to happen, Jase" |
Kelly is quite adamant that is not going to happen.
“No, thanks to you!” he shouts.
"Phone that counsellor!" |
“The sooner you take responsibility, the sooner you’ll see your son,” she points out, “Phone that counsellor!” He tells her that he will phone the counsellor, so she adds one more thing; “I need that money, you know, for the divorce settlement, because this changes nothing.”
Jason watches her go |
Kelly leaves the house, while Jason dejectedly looks at the card.
Ieuan dashes in |
There is also a knock at the door of number 21;
"She's coming home next week!" |
Ieuan comes running in, excitedly announcing, “She’s coming home next week! Anita – don’t tell Kelly – it’s a surprise!”
"Why are you telling me this?" |
Hywel wonders why he is being told this;
"I want some brotherly advice" |
“I want some brotherly advice – I want to arrange something special to welcome her back – that won’t break the bank,” breathlessly explains Ieuan.
Hywel is not optimistic that he can help, but is told, “You’ve got a lot of experience in how to make women feel special. Help your brother, out, please, before I make a mess of things.” Hywel does not know what to say.
Now Jason goes to the garage . . . |
Jason goes to the garage of Bryntirion,
. . . as part of his search |
opens the shutter and looks around inside.
Eileen is not in a good mood |
Eileen returns to Penrhewl, particularly unhappy;
"I've been looking at that planning application" |
Sioned has been looking again at that planning application online and considers that they should respond to that dam.
"Not now, Sioned!" |
“Not now, Sioned,” groans her mother.
"We have a responsibility to the community" |
“I know Penrhewl is all right, but I think we have responsibility to the community,” Sioned goes on.
“Not now!” shouts Eileen and it is obvious that something is seriously wrong.
"She wants me to plead guilty" |
“I’ve just been to see my solicitor – she wants me to change my plea to guilty.”
"What?" |
Sioned is surprised to hear this and wants further details.
"Kelly and Howard are going to give evidence" |
“She said that Kelly and Howard are going to give evidence and she now thinks they’ve got more of a case that she thought.”
"And she's only finding this out now?" |
Sioned is incensed that solicitor is only finding this out now, insisting that her mother cannot go to jail.
Eileen explains the reasoning |
“If I plead guilty to inflicting bodily injury, there’s a good chance I’ll be found not guilty of wounding with intent. That means a lesser sentence because I’ve admitted I’m guilty.”
"There's a possibility you'll go to jail?" |
“And Eiry thinks there’s a possibility you’ll go to jail?” demands Sioned. However Eileen makes it clear she has no intention of pleading guilty, so she has sacked the solicitor. This causes Sioned much concern.
Now Jason is up in the attic . . . |
After investigating the garage, Jason is now in the attic, rummaging through various things left there; pulling aside a dust sheet,
. . . where he locates the green plastic bag . . . |
he comes across a green plastic bag
. . . with its bundles of money . . . |
which contains bundles of currency notes and the passport;
. . . exactly what he has been seeking |
this is what he has been looking for.
"More than I thought are supporting it" |
In the deli, Mark asks Councillor Diane how many people objected to the plan; “There were a lot – but more than I thought are supporting it, too,”she replies, “I don’t think the protest night has reflected well on the residents of Maes-y-Deri.”
"She took things too far" |
Mark can understand that and is sorry for the part that Cheryl played; “She took things too far.”
"Look at Jason" |
Diane says that we all do things we regret; “Look at Jason. Cheryl was trying to defend what was important to her – but there are better ways of doing that.”
DJ arrives at Bryntirion . . . |
DJ returns to Bryntirion and cannot hear anyone
. . . and thinks he is alone until . . . |
so he assumes the place is empty.
. . . he sees the stolen money |
However, he suddenly notices, displayed on the kitchen table, the green bag and the remaining money; Jason has been waiting for him.
"How could you?" |
“How could you?” Jason demands, “APD’s money!”
DJ maintains that he does not know what Jason is talking about, so one of the tight rolls of notes is hurled at him;
DJ manages to catch it |
DJ manages to catch it.
"I know you stole this money!" |
“I know you stole this money, DJ – I suspected it from the first minute you came looking for me – with an envelope full of money, a mobile phone and my passport.”
"I was desperate!" |
DJ cannot argue but says that he was desperate; “Sioned had left me – Tamed – the farm – all of it was gone.”
"So you stole from your family and friends" |
“So you stole from your family and friends?” snarls Jason. He is told that DJ was not thinking straight, then continues, “Then you let everyone think I did it.”
"I thought you were dead" |
DJ reckons that he thought Jason was dead; “And you told everyone I did it!” DJ is adamant that it was not like that and he is sorry.
"Consider what Eiry said, Mam" |
Sioned tries to reason with her mother; “All I’m asking you to do is to consider what Eiry said.” Eileen is implacably determined that she is not going to jail.
"It's better that you do a few months' |
“But if Eiry thinks there is a chance that could happen, it’s better that you do a few months rather than risk the full sentence – you could be in there for three or four years! I can’t be without you for that long, Mam!”
"I can't believe you want me to spend one night in jail" |
“I can’t believe you want me to spend one night in jail,” snaps Eileen;
"Of course I don't" |
of course her daughter does not want that – she cannot think of anything worse.
"You're the only one who knows what happened" |
“Listen, you’re the only one who knows what happened that night, but Eiry wouldn’t ask you to plead guilty without good reason.”
"That's why I sacked her!" |
Eileen is convinced that Eiry does not know what she doing; “That’s why I sacked her! I’m going to look for someone else to represent me!”
"Where would you find someone else?" |
Sioned incredulously demands, “Where would you find someone else? You’re going to court in a month!” Her mother is sure that she will find someone.
"You've made things a hundred times worse!" |
Sioned stresses, “You’re being so irresponsible – Eiry was your only chance and now you have made things a hundred times worse for yourself!”
"You're sorry – now you've been caught" |
DJ is still apologising repeatedly; “How many times do I have to say it?” Jason is not surprised that he is sorry – now that he has been caught.
"I didn't mean to blame you" |
“I didn’t mean to blame you – I was scared of getting caught – other people started to suspect you,” DJ whimpers.
"You didn't correct them, did you?" |
“But you didn’t correct them, did you, DJ? Worse than that, you tried to persuade me to leave, pretending you were doing me a huge favour.”
"I couldn't leave the twins" |
DJ’s excuse is that he was scared and he could not leave the twins; “If Eileen went to jail, too, Sioned would be on her own – she couldn’t cope with two babies. And you know what it’s like to be desperate for money –
"I can't goto jail, Jason" |
“I can’t go to jail, Jason – I can’t!”
"You're a heck of a rôle model" |
“What sort of father are you going to be? You’re a heck of a rôle model,” comments Jason.
"Please don't tell Mathew !" |
DJ begs to be given a chance to try, “And please don’t tell Mathew –
"You can have half the money" |
“you can have half the money – £10,000 – imagine what you could do with that.”
Jason looks at a bundle of notes . . . |
Jason looks at one of the bundles of notes,
. . . puts them all in the black bag . . . |
then throws it into the bag with all the others
. . . and is about to leave the house |
and gets up.
"Don't follow!" |
He cautions DJ, “Don’t follow me!” and walks out of the house – with all the money.
"Do you think Kelly will want a party?" |
Ieuan suggests that he should have a party, but Hywel reminds him, “Do you think Kelly will want a party after her ex-husband has reappeared?” Then a ‘Welcome Home Anita’ banner is suggested;
"Haven't you got any imagination?" |
“Haven’t you got any imagination?” Hywel sighs, as he goes to answer the front door.
"I've forgotten my house keys" |
He finds that it is Kelly who asks, “Is Griffiths here? I’ve forgotten my house keys.”
Ieuan lends her his keys |
He hands over his keys and she wonders what they are doing.
She can see that something is going on . . . |
The two of them come up with different answers, which naturally makes her suspicious.
. . . and is eager to know what it is |
“What’s going on with you lately?” she demands
"Well, you see, it's . . ." |
and Ieuan begins to explain,
". . . council business" |
but Hywel overrules him, maintaining that something has come up with the council.
"Nothing to do with submerging half the village, is it?" |
“Oh aye – nothing to do with submerging half of the village, is it?” she asks.
“No, not at all – and it’s agricultural land,” insists Hywel; Kelly will see Griffiths at home.
"Do you think she knows about Anita?" |
“Do you think she knows about Anita?” Ieuan wonders; Hywel knows that he is looking forward to seeing Anita,
"The best gift you can give her is yourself" |
but the best gift he can give her is himself – not some banner.
"That's it – thanks, Hywel!" |
This gives Ieuan an idea and he rushes out of the house without a further word.
Cheryl is having a doze |
Cheryl is dozing on the sofa when Mark comes in, finding the house in a rather untidy state.
She has packed Mark's things |
“If you’ve come for your stuff, I’ve already packed it,” she says and he is surprised that she wants him to move out.
“Whoa now, I’ve come here to talk to you,” he replies,
"I can't see any point in that" |
but she cannot see any point to that.
"I don't want things to end like this" |
“I don’t want things to end it like this,” he adds.
"But you left in the first place" |
“But you left in the first place and nothing’s changed,” says Cheryl;
"I'd at least like a chance to talk about it" |
he would at least like the chance to talk about it. “There’s no point, Mark – you don’t trust me – I can tell by the way you look at me. I don’t know if you’re scared or what, but it just hurts too much.”
DJ is doing a spot of housework |
DJ is tidying up at Bryntirion
"The thing is, Diane . . ." |
when Diane comes in and asks where Jason is; DJ starts to explain, “The thing is, Diane . . .”
Jason appears |
He is saved by the arrival of Jason,
"I've been to see the police" |
who announces, “I’ve been to see the police.”
"I went to Mami's house" |
Now Ieuan is back at number 21 and tells Hywel, “I went to Mami’s house – you were right – Anita deserves more than a pathetic banner or some scones.
"I never want to be on separate continents again" |
This period of separation has been torturous – I never want us to be on different continents again – never!”
Ieuan feels in his pocket . . . |
Then he feels in his pocket and produces a small box;
. . . and produces a ring |
“I found this when I was going through Mami’s stuff with Jason one Christmas. He was looking for an engagement ring for Kelly – she didn’t want it, thank goodness, because it’s perfect for Anita. What do you say?
"Do you think I should propose?" |
“Do you think I should propose?”
"There's no harm in trying" |
Hywel thinks that there is no harm in trying.
The brothers shake hands |
Ieuan thanks his brother for the help and shakes his hand.
"Not long to go now" |
In the deli, Sioned is telling Llinos, “Not long to go – I’m enjoying my freedom while I have it.”
"You look fantastic!" |
She is told that she looks fantastic. Eileen is surprised to see Sioned there;
"I was going to visit some solicitors" |
“I just wanted to get out of the house and I was going to visit some solicitors on the way home – find out if anyone will represent you – you should come with me.”
"You said I'm the only one who knows what happened . . ." |
Eileen has been thinking; “I have already found someone else – you said I’m the only one who knows what happened that night,
". . . so I'm going to represent myself" |
so I’m going to represent myself.”
That is a surprise to Sioned |
Sioned was not expecting that.
"I'm not the monster you think I am" |
“I’m not the monster you think I am,” says Cheryl.
"Things got too much for me last week . . ." |
Mark appreciates that things got a bit too much for him last week,
". . . I thought some time apart would do us good" |
so he thought some time apart would do them good.
"When `I lose my temper, it's not pretty" |
She agrees that things got too much for her as well; “I’ve got a temper – I can’t deny that – and when I lose it, it’s not pretty.”
"You're sweet, kind, funny . . ." |
Mark reminds her, “But you’re so sweet, kind, funny –
". . . not quite as funny as me" |
but not quite as funny as me, but . . .”
This makes Cheryl laugh |
This makes her laugh. She confesses, “I really thought I was going to die that night when I hit him with a bottle. I’m trying to control my temper, I really am – I’m better than I was, believe it or not, but sometimes when things get too much I just explode.”
"Talk to me about it, Cher" |
He encourages her to talk to him; “When things build up, perhaps I can help you to control it. What do you say?”
They hug each other |
Cheryl agrees that they have a deal and they hug each other.
"They've closed the missing person case" |
“So they’ve closed the missing person case?” assumes Diane. Jason has cleared his name; when he was interviewed, he told them to contact Rosa,
"The CCTT proves I was in her shop" |
whose CCTV confirmed that he was in her shop on the night of the theft. He adds that Mathew has also seen the CCTV for himself.
"The next thing is to sort out your clothes . . ." |
Diane is very relieved that he is in the clear; “The next thing is to sort out your clothes –
". . . half of them are in Apêl Maenan" |
“half of them are in Apêl Maenan – I will give Megan a ring.” She kisses Jason as she is leaving the house.
"Dis you say anything about me?" |
“Did you say anything about me?” demands DJ.
Jason picks up the bag |
Jason smiles and picks up the black bag containing all the money.
"No – I want half!" |
“No,” he says, “I want half –
"Cross me again and you know what's going to happen!" |
“cross me again and you know what’s going to happen!”
DJ will have to watch his step |
DJ will have to be very careful now.
