Jinx has concerns about the milk |
Dani is anxiously preparing to go to the Young Offenders Institution to collect Gwern, while Jinx appears to be concerned about the bottle of milk. “It smells OK, but this coffee tastes a bit funky – Dani?”
"Are you sure you don't want me to come with you?" |
He can see that she is worried, so asks, “Are you sure you don’t want me to come with you today? Mark won’t mind looking after the children.”
"I have to do this alone, Jinx" |
She replies that she has to do this alone
"It's going to be fine" |
and he tells her that it is going to be fine; something which she does not believe for a moment.
"Right, I don't want to be late" |
“Right, I’m off – I don’t want to be late.”
"I recognise that voice" |
As Megan sits in her hospital bed she hears a familiar voice; “I feel like the Pied Piper – it’s down here somewhere,” says Dai and Megan puts on her glasses. “I don’t know why the writing on the signs is so small,” he goes on and we see that he is accompanied by a few other villagers, including Madge and her husband.
"Oh, Megan!" |
“Oh, hello, Dai!” calls Megan and he is very surprised to see her.
"Are those chocolates for me?" |
“I wasn’t expecting visitors,” she says, “Are those chocolates for me?”
He informs her that they are actually for Brynmor; “He’s in here and he’s on the WhatsApp Group, so we arranged this visit a few days ago.”
"I didn't receive an invitation!" |
Megan complains that she has not received an invitation to be on this ‘WhatsApp’, but he assures her that he has sent it, suspecting that she has deleted it or ‘zip-folded’ it or something.
"You need a degree in astrophysics" |
“You need a degree in astrophysics to use a phone these days,” he says.
"I'm well able to use my phone!" |
She angrily insists that she is well able to use her phone and he agrees that he will send her another invitation.
"What's wrong with Brynmor?" |
Then Megan wants to know what is wrong with Brynmor and is told, “He’s had a heart attack,” which comes as a great shock to her. “But he is getting better slowly– he’s made of strong stuff –
"Considering he's married to Kath Jones!" |
“ is lucky, considering he’s married to Kath Jones!”
Then Dai gets round to asking Megan why she is there;
"Nothing as bad as poor Brynmor" |
she admits that she fell, but it is nothing as bad as poor Brynmor. He hopes that she gets well soon and as they continue on their way to see Brynmor, Megan sends her regards to him.
Maya arrives |
Then Maya arrives and Megan gloomily expects that she has come to see Brynmor as well.
"Mark only told me the truth this morning" |
“No, I’m here to see you, of course,”she is told, “I would have come sooner, but Mark only told me the truth this morning. You have nothing to be ashamed of – and I’ve brought chocolate –
"I didn't even need to write a prescription" |
I didn’t even need to write a prescription.” Megan is very grateful.
Mathew catches sight of Ffion |
As he is outside APD, Mathew notices Ffion across the road and calls to her; “I’m glad I’ve seen you – I was wondering if you had plans tonight?”
"Don't you have plans with Tegwen?" |
Ffion is surprised that he does not have plans with Tegwen tonight; “I heard that she was back in the village.” Mathew is adamant that there is nothing going on with her,
"It's none of my business" |
but Ffion replies, “You can do what you like – it’s none of my business.”
Howard has a favour to ask |
Howard comes out and is sorry to interrupt; “Is it OK if I take my lunch hour at the end of the afternoon? I’ve got an important appointment – if that’s all right?” Mathew agrees to this and Howard is very pleased
"He's been acting strange all day . . ." |
“He’s been acting strange all day –
". . . but anyway – tonight?" |
“anyway – tonight?” Mathew continues; so Ffion invites him to come over to Cysgod y Glyn after work.
This meeting is witnessed by Rhys |
Rhys happens to be going into the shop and looks across at them.
"I think we need to talk, Mathew" |
Ffion thinks that she and Mathew need to talk,
Mathew has a good feeling about this |
at which suggestion Mathew looks cautiously optimistic.
Sara has been upstairs with Ifan |
Sara comes downstairs after playing with Ifan and thanks Kelly for her cup of coffee;
"All this playing is knackering" |
“I needed this,” she says.
“I know – all this playing is knackering, isn’t it?” is Kelly’s reply.
"But I love every second" |
Sara continues that she loves every second,
"There's only so many rounds of 'Gee Ceffyl Bach'!" |
but Kelly agrees, “There’s only so many rounds of ‘Gee Ceffyl Bach’ [Gee Little Horse] you can do without caffeine.”
"It's been lovely spending time with him" |
“Honestly, now, it’s been so lovely spending time with him.” Kelly can see that Ifan has been enjoying it
"Perhaps we should do it more regularly" |
so proposes that they should perhaps do it more regularly, which comes as quite a surprise to Sara.
"I know it hasn't been easy" |
She thanks Kelly once again for everything; she is aware that it has not been easy.
"No – I'll go" |
Then there is a thud from upstairs, so Kelly is about to go and check on Ifan, but Sara insists on going instead. However as soon as she has gone upstairs, her phone, which has been left on the table, rings.
"Sara – phone!" |
Kelly calls to her, but she does not hear.
Kelly looks at the phone . . . |
Looking across at the phone, Kelly can clearly see that it is a call from David
. . . and the picture on its screen |
and the picture on the screen is of a man with a baby. She has become very suspicious.
Megan is wheeled along the corridor . . . |
Maya is wheeling Megan along a hospital corridor
. . . towards where Dai and co are laughing |
when they hear the sounds of Dai and the others laughing;
She clutches her head and moans . . . |
Megan decides to create a diversion by clutching her head and moaning loudly.
. . . so Dai calls for a nurse |
Dai is very concerned and calls for a nurse,
"Oh, my head!" |
although Maya does not appear to be particularly worried.
Cheryl is expecting a customer . . . |
At Maes-y-Deri, Cheryl is untangling the lead of her equipment, in preparation for an appointment; there is a knock at the door and she tells the caller that the door is open.
. . . who turns out to be Howard, using a pseudonym |
She is surprised to see Howard come in and demands what he is doing there; “I’ve got an appointment – Mr Owen,” he replies, “That is what I call myself when I fancy it.”
"Where do you usually go?" |
She is not sure about this; “Where do you usually go? Can’t you go there?”
"I'm used to shearing" |
He answers that he usually does it himself, as he is used to shearing.
“I know what you did to Kelly,” she cautions, but he insists that he and Kelly understand each other now.
"I'm not here to cause trouble" |
He is not there to cause trouble and is sorry for wasting her time;
He is about to go . . . |
he turns to leave.
. . . when Cheryl relents |
Cheryl relents;
"I'm watching you, all right?" |
“OK – take a seat – but I’m watching you, all right?”
When (the new) Gwern walks in . . . |
At number nine all is prepared to welcome Gwern home,
. . . he is welcomed home . . . |
so Jinx, Seren and Gabriel unfurl their banner and shout, “Welcome home!”
. . . but does not say a word |
He has changed considerably since he left and does not say a word; Dani explains, “We’ve worked hard to get the house ready for you.” Seren emphasises that she helped with the decoration. “Do you want to go and have a look?” Dani asks.
Dani and . . . |
Gwern walks upstairs without a word as Dani
. . . Jinx look at each other |
and Jinx look at each other.
"A train had fallen off the cupboard" |
Sara comes back downstairs, reporting that a train had fallen off the cupboard
"David tried to phone you" |
and Kelly informs her that someone tried to phone her. “David? It was a missed call.” Sara will phone him back later.
"So he's the bloke on your phone's background?" |
“So he’s the handsome bloke on your phone’s background?” continues Kelly,
"Who are they, Sara?" |
“Cute baby as well – who are they, Sara?”
She does not immediately answer |
There is no immediate reply.
"I think it suits you" |
Cheryl has done a good job on Howard’s hair; “I wasn’t sure how short to go, but I think it suits you.”
"It doesn't look like me" |
His first impression is that it does not look like him. “Is there a reason behind this transformation – there usually is –
"Remember to treat her right" |
“remember to treat her right.”
"There is no 'her'" |
“There is no ‘her’ – I just thought I’d make more of an effort,” he maintains.
"In a smart shirt, you'd be a different man" |
She recommends that in a smart shirt, and he would be a different man, not that APD’s polos are not stylish.
"Where would I get a cheap one round here?" |
“Where would someone get a smart shirt around here – a cheap one?” he wonders;
Cheryl has an idea |
Cheryl has an idea.
'This isn't how I wanted you to find out" |
“Listen, this isn’t how I wanted you to find out,” Sara tells Kelly, who is not at all convinced;
"David and I are married" |
“David and I are married — and the baby in the photo, well, that’s Math, our son.”
"You what?" |
“You what?” demands Kelly and is told that everything happened so quickly.
"Did it not occur to you to say?" |
“Did it not occur to you, Sara, to say that you had a new family while Jason was sending you money every month?”
"That was before I met David!" |
“That was before I met David!” Sara shouts.
"And what about Ifan, eh?" |
“And what about Ifan, eh? When were you going to tell Ifan that he’s got a brother in Australia, by the way?” Kelly continues, “And what else are you hiding? Do you have a man all every continent, or what? Why didn’t you mention it?
"Unless you're up to something" |
“Unless you’re up to something.”
"We've moved to Lampeter" |
“Ifan’s brother isn’t in Australia – David and Math are in Lampeter – we’ve moved there permanently, so that the whole family can live together.”
"So you came back to take Ifan – I knew it!" |
Kelly realises, “So you came back to Cwmderi to take Ifan – I knew it!”
"I still feel a little bit weak" |
Megan is now back in her hospital bed and tells Maya that she still feels, “A little bit weak – I must have hit my head when I fell.”
"It's the locum" |
Maya receives a call on her phone and explains that it is the locum; she will phone back later, but Megan insists that it might be something important.
"Hello, Douglas" |
She goes outside to make the call to Douglas
Megan finds something on her phone |
and meanwhile Megan’s phone receives a message, which appears to make her feel much better.
"Everything is fine" |
Maya asks a passing nurse how Mr Harries is and is told that everything is clear on the CT scan; the tests are back and she is fine.
Dai has added Megan to the group |
We then see what has improved Megan’s mood; confirmation that ‘Dewi’ (alias Dai) has added her to the group ‘Clwb Awelon’. Maya returns with a knowing smile.
"I want to put my own stamp on it" |
As he comes into APD, Rhys announces, “If I’m going to buy Tomos ac Ellis, I want to do it in style – put my own stamp on it.”
"Unless Eleri refuses to sell" |
Mathew warns him not to come crying if Eleri refuses to sell. “She’s bound to,” Rhys replies, rather too confidently, “She hasn’t got any staff – Kelly’s still off work and I will have worked my notice in a month.”
Then he gets to the other matter on his mind;
"I saw you earlier with Ffion" |
“I saw you earlier with Ffion.”
Mathew tries to explain |
Mathew has to admit that although he promised . . . but Rhys stops him there.
"If you're going to be 'a thing', I'm fine with it" |
“I’m going to be the bigger man here – I want you to know, if you and Ffion are going to be ‘a thing’, I’m fine with it.” Mathew is taken aback by this response, although he does not know how much of ‘a thing’ they are at the moment.
"In the doghouse already?" |
“In the doghouse already?” Rhys smiles, “Top tip for you – flowers – and posh ones!”
"Oh, very original!" |
Mathew regards that as a very original suggestion.
"You have no right to do this!" |
Kelly insists that Sara has no right to do this, but although she maintains she does not want things to turn nasty,
"Yes, I do have the right!" |
she insists she does have the right.
“The whole time I thought you were back here because of Jason, when in fact you were back here to snatch Ifan!” Kelly growls.
"I moved back before Jason went missing" |
Sara makes it clear that she moved back to Wales before Jason went missing. “Oh, there we are, then, why didn’t you get in touch?” Sara points out that she wanted things to settle down so that she could offer him a cosy, stable home.
"I would have shared custody 50-50" |
“Before getting full custody, is it?” assumes Kelly, but Sara is adamant that she would have shared custody with Jason 50-50 – but things are a little different now.
Kelly cannot believe that she is doing this;
"I know this has come as a shock" |
“Kelly, I want you to know that I appreciate everything you’ve done. I know this has come as a shock.”
"Shock? Shock?" |
“Shock? Shock?” squeals Kelly, “Jason and I have raised Ifan for years – while you’ve been in Australia or Lampeter or wherever!”
"You know exactly why I had to leave!" |
“You know exactly why I had to leave – not a day went by when I didn’t think about him and I loved him!” Sara protests.
"Exactly what every seven-year-old needs form his mother!" |
“Thoughts and prayers, is it? Exactly what every seven-year-old needs from his mother! Who do you think you are – coming back here to snatch Ifan from the people who love him?”
"I'm his mother, Kelly!" |
Sara replies, “His mother, Kelly!”
"Get out!" |
She is ordered to get out of the house,
"This is my address" |
but first she writes on a sheet of paper her address; “In case you want to discuss this sensibly.”
"Stay away from my family!" |
Kelly throws her coat at her, just as the new-look Howard is passing; “Go back to your family and stay away from mine!” Kelly yells.
"It's a bit early for shouting in the street" |
He is of the opinion that it is a bit early to be shouting in the street;
"You look ridiculous!" |
her reaction is, “Keep out of it, Howard – you look ridiculous!”
Poor old Howard slinks away |
He walks away along the deserted street.
"These haven't come from the garage in Cwrtmynach" |
Mathew comes up the stairs to Cysgod y Glyn with some very posh flowers; “Those haven’t come from the garage in Cwrtmynach,” comments Ffion.
He tells her that they have come all the way from the flower shop in Llanarthur;
"How much I want to be with you" |
“I wanted to do something nice to show you how much I like you and how much I want to be with you, because . . .”
"We need to put the brakes on little bit" |
Ffion urges him to stop there; “Before you carry on, I think we need to put the brakes on a little bit.
"This is supposed to be a bit of fun . . ." |
“This is supposed to be a bit of fun – you and me. I hadn’t intended . . .
". . . sorry I gave you he wrong impression" |
“and I’m sorry if I gave you wrong impression.”
"I've done it again, haven't I?" |
“I’ve done it again, haven’t I?” he groans and shakes his head.
Gwern looks at photos |
In his bedroom Gwern looks at various photos of him from past years on the board.
"I wanted to see how you were settling in" |
Dani comes in; “I just wanted to see how you were settling in.” There is no reply, so she continues,
"I know you're still angry with me" |
“I know it must feel odd to be back here after everything and I know you’re still angry with me.”
"For sending me to prison" |
“For sending me to prison,” he mumbles. Dani simply hopes that one day he will understand, but stresses that she has never stopped loving him; she will always be here for him.
"Do you want to come down for some food?" |
“Do you want to come down for some food? Seren is desperate to see you – or I can bring some up for you. It’s up to you.”
Gwern remains silent |
Gwern remains silent, so she retreats back downstairs and he closes the door after her.
"Don't listen to Tegwen" |
Mathew is telling his troubles to Ffion, who replies, “Don’t listen to Tegwen – you’re not desperate!”
"But I am needy" |
but he concedes that he is needy. “I’m not a psychologist by a long way,
"It may be a family you're looking for" |
“but do you think that perhaps it’s a family you’re looking for?” Ffion wonders.
"I don't have the best relationship with Dad" |
He considers that it might be possible; “I don’t have the best relationship with Dad – and I haven’t spoken to Mam for years. Sorry for putting you in an awkward position earlier – perhaps you’re right. Perhaps we need to put a stop to all this.”
"I didn't say I don't like you" |
“Why?” demands Ffion, “I didn’t say that I don’t like you, did I? I enjoy your company – I just don’t need you to bring me flowers – and seeing us as a couple. But I’m more than happy to carry on having some fun – as long as we both understand that’s all it is.”
Ffion kisses him |
She leans over and kisses him.
"Why doesn't Gwern want to come down" |
Dani is laying the table, while Seren cannot understand why Gwern does not want to come down to play. Dani answers that he is just tired and they will have loads of time to play.
"Things are not right, are they?" |
Jinx is concerned that things are not right;
"He hasn't really said a word to me" |
“I don’t know – he hasn’t really said a word to me,” Dani replies.
“He’s been away for quite a while, hasn’t he? Jinx goes on, “It must be a big change for him – never mind coming back here, without Gwyneth.
"These things take time" |
“It’s only natural that these things take time.” Dani hopes that he is right.
Gwerrn looks at the board . . . |
Meanwhile, upstairs, Gwern is pulling out the pins holding up the photos
. . . then removes all the pins |
and one by one they flutter to the floor, leaving the noticeboard empty;
He is left with an empty board |
he sits down, disconsolately, on his bed.
