Mathew arrives with his coffee . . . |
Next morning, Mathew staggers into APD with a cup of coffee in an effort to counteract the after-effects of last night;
. . . tosses down his keys . . . |
he throws the keys down on the counter,
. . . then has a terrible shock |
then discovers to his horror that the safe door is open and its contents missing. “No, no, no!” he exclaims.
Tom is cooking breakfast |
Gaynor comes downstairs and finds that Tom is cooking breakfast; she asks if he slept well and he agrees that he did.
"You didn't have to make me breakfast" |
“You didn’t have to make me breakfast,” she tells him,
"Sit down, Gaynor" |
as he presents her with her meal and invites her to take a seat.
"Aren't you having any?" |
“Aren’t you having any?” Gaynor asks and he replies that it will be a quick bite for him after a 10k run, which comes as somewhat of a surprise.
"Who is that at the door?" |
He hopes that she enjoys her breakfast and then is about to leave the house, just as there is a knock at the back door and Mark walks in.
"Tom, is it?" |
“Tom, is it?” says Mark,
"I'm Mark" |
and he introduces himself. Tom had not expected that the postman would have been told about him, but Gaynor explains that Mark is going out with her sister, Cheryl. “She’s off in Llanelli today, doing hair for a wedding,” Mark explains.
"Just off for a 10k run" |
Tom says that he is just off for a 10k run before breakfast and,
"He's keen!" |
when he has left the house, Mark describes him as ‘keen’, although Gaynor seems to think otherwise.
"Who make a big breakfast and then leaves?" |
“Who makes someone a big breakfast and then leaves?” she demands, “Does he expect me to eat this alone?” Mark assumes that Tom does not want to run on a full stomach, and offers to eat it for her, if she does not want it.
Mark will polish that off for her |
He says that he is starving, then puts his post round on hold while he sits down for breakfast.
"It's not right, is it?" |
In the MFC flat, Britt tells Colin, “It’s not right though, is it?” He cannot see anything wrong with it, but she insists, “The cushions are all over the place.”
"No, it's still not right" |
He goes to rearrange them, but she is still not happy, thinking that it may be the light.
"You're just worried because Kylie's coming back" |
“Come on, now – you’re just worried because Kylie’s coming back,” Colin insists, “The flat is perfect as it is.”
"Perhaps we should buy a new sofa" |
Then she thinks that they should buy a new sofa, pointing out that there are always sales going on somewhere.
"But it will cost hundreds!" |
“But it will cost us hundreds and hundreds of pounds we don’t have,” he stresses and she realises that he is right.
"I'll see you later" |
He is now off to work and will see her later,
She is still not happy |
but when she slumps down on the sofa, she is still not happy.
At APD, the three members of staff have been assembled; “Apart from Rhys, only we knew there was so much cash in the safe,” says Mathew.
"I've only just started" |
DJ says he has no idea of the code, as he has only just started. Howard is quick to point out that applies to him as well,
"He's got a criminal record" |
but Griffiths mentions that Howard has a criminal record, which causes some objections.
Mathew has not yet contacted the police,
"Someone in the company knows something" |
“Because I’m convinced that someone in the company knows something! There’s no sign of a break-in.”
"I thought we had CCTV" |
Howard was under the impression that he had CCTV and an app on his phone.
"I lost my phone in the club" |
Mathew groans that he lost his phone in the club, and Griffiths says, “Mon Tease, the name of the strip club.”
"Who's Monty, then?" |
Howard wants to know who ‘Monty’ is,
"No, 'Mon Tease'!" |
"Who cares what the club's called?" |
Mathew is becoming angry, “Who cares what the club’s called?” he shouts, “Can we concentrate on this, please? I’ve been locked out of the CCTV account – but it’s only a matter of time before I get back in – and find out who stole the money! If you want to confess anything before I go to the police, now’s the time.”
"Call me Columbo, right . . ." |
DJ is looking through a book and announces, “Call me Columbo, right,
". . . the code is in this log book" |
“but is it possible that the thief saw the safe code in this logbook, where it says ‘safe code’?”
"Anita!" |
Mathew snarls, “Anita!” throws down his pen
Mathew marches out |
and walks out.
"I don't know where I stand with him" |
As Mark continues consuming Gaynor’s breakfast, she grumbles, “I just don’t know where I stand with him.” Mark enquires whether they are an item or if it is something casual, but she does not know; “I think we’re just friends.”
"Well, he slept here last night" |
Mark reports that he slept there last night, then is informed that it was on the sofa.
"He says he likes me" |
“He says he likes me, but he insists on holding back – I’m not saying we should go there straightaway, but I’d like to know how he feels about it. If he doesn’t want to, that’s fine – I just don’t want to make a fool of myself.”
"That's how you got me into bed!" |
“Have you tried to get him drunk? That’s how you got me into bed!” Mark rather insensitively comments,
"Right – you can go now, Mark" |
but she does not appreciate that and tells him that he can go now,
Mark picks up his bag . . . |
still not having finished the breakfast,
. . . and grabs a piece of bacon |
but he does grab a last piece of bacon before he leaves.
"How do you know Anita was responsible?" |
Griffiths has followed Mathew out of APD and demands, “How do you know Anita was responsible? Anyone could have written that –
"That doesn't prove how they got inside" |
“all right, perhaps she did write it, but that doesn’t prove how they got inside.”
"How can she be so stupid?" |
Mathew emphasises, “She wrote the words ‘safe code’ and then the numbers under it – how can she be so stupid?”
"I'm not having you call her stupid!" |
Griffiths takes issue with him calling Anita stupid; he will not let anyone blacken her name and will report Mathew to the union for verbal abuse.
"Perhaps I should be reporting you" |
He is reminded that he does not have a union and that perhaps Mathew should be reporting him to the police; “You were willing to throw Howard ‘under the bus’, but who suggested he work for us? Yes, you – someone to point the finger at, perhaps?”
"You're not suggesting I'm involved?" |
“Come on – you’re not suggesting I’m involved?” protests Griffiths and it is pointed out that he was splashing the cash last night; stealing £23,000 would be a good way of keeping the bailiffs at bay.
"Perhaps you and Anita planned the whole thing!" |
“Perhaps you and Anita planned the whole thing!”
"I'm going to get that CCTV footage" |
Mathew is determined to get the CCTV footage and gets into the van.
Britt walks past . . . |
Britt is walking along the back street, which we see has a sign, ‘Stryd y Plas’, when she notices a sofa outside Cysgod y Glyn.
. . as Ffion is disposing of her sofa |
It looks in fairly good condition and at that moment Ffion comes out with a couple of its cushions and announces, “The council’s coming to get it tomorrow – it will be nice to have a change.”
"You could get something for it" |
“But you’ll get something for it if you sell it,” Britt tells her; Ffion answers that she does not have time for that. “I’ll give you £10,” Britt offers;
"I've already paid the council" |
Ffion replies that she has already paid the council. “All right – £20, then! Better than nothing – hassle free!”
Britt has to make sure it is comfortable |
Britt has to check first if it is comfortable; “I’m not going to buy it unless I can relax on it!”
Griffiths is sitting in the Deri |
Griffiths is sitting glumly in the Deri with a cup of tea when Eleri walks in;
"How the mighty are fallen" |
“Well, well, how the mighty are fallen!” she gleefully remarks, “I like the fleece – is it Anita’s old one?”
He is surprised that she had not heard, but she points out that she is still trying to adjust from New York time, although he thinks it is strange, as she has been in Cwmderi for four months.
"Did you hear anything late last night?" |
She describes herself as ‘a night owl’, so Griffiths wonders if she heard anything late last night. “There’s been a theft at APD – and I’m the prime suspect.”
Eleri finds this very amusing, then realises that he is serious;
"Did you do it?" |
“Did you do it?” she enquires. He angrily replies that of course he did not,
"Deny everything and eta top-notch solicitor" |
so her advice is, “Make sure you deny everything and get a top notch solicitor.”
Griffiths wants jo more of her advice |
He has heard enough of this and walks out, as Eleri smiles malevolently.
"Britt, I've got other things to do" |
“Britt, I’ve got other things to do!” exclaims Ffion as Britt continues testing the sofa, “I don’t need you to take it – the council’s coming tomorrow.”
"That's not very green, is is?" |
Britt maintains that is not very green, but Ffion simply demands whether she wants the sofa or not.
“OK, here you go – £20 – can you help me carry it to the flat?” Ffion flatly refuses, even when Britt points out that it is just round the corner.
"Delivery not included!" |
“Sorry, delivery not included!” says Ffion
"You can't leave that there!" |
Griffiths is approaching, shouting, “You can’t leave that there – it’s blocking the road!”
"Nothing to do with me!" |
Ffion informs him that it is nothing to do with her, but it is Britt’s; she goes back into the house.
"Come on – it will only take two minutes" |
“Can you help me carry it back to the flat?” Britt asks Griffiths, “Come on – it will only take two minutes – and you’re the one who’s worried about the road being blocked.”
The APD van is back . . . |
He sees the APD van coming round the corner
. . . and Griffiths want to keep a low profile |
and agrees to help with the sofa, in order to keep out of Mathew’s way;
They begin the operation |
they begin their furniture moving.
"Did you get your phone back?" |
When Mathew arrives back in APD, DJ asks if he got his phone back
"There was nothing in lost property" |
and is told there was nothing in lost property. “Where’s Ieuan?” he demands and neither DJ nor Howard have any idea.
"Are you going to phone the police?" |
Howard asks if he is going to phone the police;
There is the code in black and white |
“And say what? Anita had written down the code in the logbook! I won’t speak to them until I see the CCTV.
"I have my suspicions who did it" |
“I have my suspicions who did it, don’t worry.”
He is looking for the phone number of the help line for the cameras to see if there is another way to watch the footage; he predicts that he will be on the phone for ages.
"Did anyone else know the code?" |
“Does anyone else know the code?” asks DJ, “Or somebody who could have seen the notebook – or even seen Anita write it down?”
Something occurs to Mathew |
Suddenly an idea dawns on Mathew;
"Eleri!" |
“Eleri! Jason showed her APD’s books when she was thinking of investing in the company.” He abandons his phone call to the camera people.
Mark emerges from the shop |
Mark has resumed his round and is just coming out of the shop when Tom approaches, nearing the end of his run;
"Nice village" |
he comments that it is a nice village and then Mark raises the subject of Gaynor.
"Gaynor's a woman and a half" |
“She’s a woman and a half – and a good boss as well,” he says;
"You obviously know her better than me" |
Tom comments that Mark obviously knows her better than he does.
"Yes, but that only happened once" |
“Ah, yes, but that only happened once,” Mark assures him, “Before Cheryl and I got together – we were both very drunk, too.
"I can't even remember it – more's the pity" |
“I can’t even remember it – more’s the pity.”
Tom's expression changes |
Now Tom is looking very serious and Mark realises that he has put his foot in it;
"You didn't know about us?" |
“You didn’t know about us? She doesn’t make a habit of doing it – it was just one night –
"Forget about it – right?" |
“forget about it – right? Gaynor is a lovely woman – she’s been hurt over the years and lost a lot of confidence. She deserves someone to give her a bit of confidence.”
"See you, Mark" |
Tom continues his exercise
"Oh – what have I done?" |
and Mark is afraid that he has ruined things.
"Hello, APD" |
A deputation is awaiting Eleri in the Tomos ac Ellis office; “Hello, APD,” she greets them.
"Money was stolen out of APD's safe last night" |
Mathew comes straight to the point, “Money was stolen out of APD’s safe last night – whoever was responsible knew the code, or is familiar with APD’s accountants.”
"Did you steal it?" |
Howard asks if she stole the money.
DJ says that she examined the accounts a few weeks ago and it is possible that she saw the code then.
Mathew continues, “I’m not accusing you of anything . . .”
"You didn't get a confession out of Griffiths, then" |
“It certainly sounds like it,” she tells him, “You didn’t get a confession out of Griffiths, then – so I’m being interrogated now.” Mathew stresses that he is giving her time to tell the truth before he goes to the police.
"I came to Cwmderi in order to steal some pocket money" |
“Yeah, all right,” says Eleri, “I left America to come to Cwmderi in order to steal some pocket money from APD.”
"It was £23,000!" |
Howard emphasises that it was £23,000, and again she calls it, “Pocket money.
"Is this how you get your kicks?" |
“Is this a personal vendetta after what happened between us, Mathew? Is that how you get your kicks?”
They retreat from the Tomos ac Ellis office |
Crestfallen, Mathew turns to leave the office, with the others following him.
"Tom's not back yet, is he?" |
Mark is back him at Llwyncelyn once again; “Tom’s not back yet, is he?”
"I wouldn't be surprised if he's run home" |
It would not surprise Gaynor if he had run home. “I saw him earlier – and, well, I was trying to help – I told him that you’re a very nice woman and he shouldn’t be scared to make a move on you.”
"You told him what?" |
Gaynor is horrified to hear this, but there is more; “That’s what I was trying to say,
"I told him about you and me" |
“but then I told him about you and me – I thought he already knew.” Gaynor is furious as he continues that he she said she needed someone to give her some confidence, that is all.
"Go on – get out!" |
She tells him to get out of the house; he considers that it would be wise to do as she says.
The sofa appears to be wedged |
Britt and Griffiths have managed to manoeuvre the sofa to the top of the stairs in the MFC flat. Griffiths complains that he has to go back to APD; she only said it would take two minutes.
"We're nearly there now" |
She insists that they are nearly there now, but he snarls, “It’s impossible to get it in!” but she disagrees with this assessment, explaining that she did not have time to measure it.
"What on earth's going on?" |
He is instructed to pull his end and at that moment Colin comes up the stairs, demanding what on earth is going on. “We’ve got a new sofa, Colin!” says Britt,
"It's Ffion's old one" |
“Well, it’s Ffion’s old one.”
Meanwhile it appears that Griffiths is trapped underneath the sofa as Britt explains to Colin that she got it for £20 – otherwise it would have gone to the tip.
"And now I'm stuck behind it!" |
“And now I’m stuck behind it!” shouts Griffiths.
According to Britt, it is a simple matter to lift it over the banister, but Griffiths is adamant that it does not fit.
"Colin will have to take over!" |
He is told to open the door, but is insistent that Colin will have to take over.
"I can't – because of my injury" |
“I can’t – because of my injury,” Colin says,
"Let Griffiths take most of the weight" |
but Britt tells him to let Griffiths take most of the weight. This does nothing to improve Griffiths’ mood.
Gaynor dreads Tom's return |
Tom arrives back at Llwyncelyn and apologises that he was so long, but he met Mark once again;
"Nice bloke" |
“Nice bloke,” he comments.
"It's just that . . ." |
Gaynor is very apologetic; “It’s just that . . .”
Gaynor gets no further |
but before she can say another word, Tom kisses her.
"Everyone's got a past" |
“Everyone’s got a past – but it’s your business,” he tells Gaynor
They kiss again . . . |
and they kiss again.
. . . then Tom leads her somewhere |
He takes her hand and leads her from the room.
"Very cosy for £20" |
The sofa is finally in place and Colin bounces up and down on it; his verdict is that it is very cosy for £20.
"I should take you to court for false imprisonment!" |
Griffiths is still complaining, “I should take both of you to court for false imprisonment and slave labour – I’m sweating like a pig!”
They simply ridicule him |
All Britt and Colin do is laugh at him.
Colin proposes, “I’ll make us a cup of tea,
"Once we have taken this back" |
“once we have taken this old sofa back to Cysgod y Glyn.”
"You've got to be joking!" |
Griffiths cannot believe that he is serious,
"Actually, I think I prefer the old one" |
but even now Britt is having second thoughts and thinks that actually she prefers the old one.
"See if I can have my £20 back" |
“Put it back outside Ffion’s and see if I can have my £20 back,” she tells them, but they do not appear willing to carry out her instructions.
"You've been on hold for ages" |
In the Deri, Matthew is waiting on DJ’s phone for the camera people to reply; DJ thinks he should call them some other time, as he has been on hold for ages. Suddenly someone answers;
"And type that in? Right" |
“Yes, it’s in front of me,” he says and follows the instructions. “And type that in? Right – at last – thank you very much!”
The camera records are there . . . |
Now he goes through the camera records to find last night’s footage,
. . . except the one he wants |
but it is not there;
"Someone has deleted it – look!" |
“Someone has deleted the CCTV! It isn’t there – look!”
Eleri arrives |
Eleri comes in and Mathew apologises for his behaviour earlier, when he was just trying to work things out; “I shall have to go to the police now!”
"Did Jason know the code for the safe?" |
Eleri agrees that it is a good idea, because she has been thinking; “Did Jason know the code for the safe?”
"Jason's dead" |
Howard immediately says that Jason is dead. Mathew agrees that Jason did know,
"And he had access to the CCTV" |
and at the CCTV has been deleted – which he also knew how to access.
"I told him about my business partner" |
She sits down with them; “When I was thinking about investing in APD, I told Jason about my business partner who emptied the accounts and faked his own death.”
"He wouldn't do something like this" |
Mathew cannot believe that Jason would do something like this,
"Well, I did tell him" |
but she did tell him about it.
"Jason wouldn't do that" |
DJ also insists that Jason would not do such a thing,
"Wouldn't he?" |
but doubt has been sown in all their minds.
