"No – no– no!"

After a moment, Kelly rushes into the kitchen, shouting, “No – no – no!”

"Calm down, Kelly"

with Diane following her and trying to calm her down.

"No way he's going near Lampeter!"

This has no effect as Kelly shrieks, “There’s no way Ifan’s going anywhere near Lampeter!”

"We need to talk about this"

When Diane suggests that they need to talk about this, she responds, “Talk?   Are you having a laugh?   What about talking to me before saying OK to Sara?”

"What about our plan?"

Diane insists that she had no choice, but this is denied by Kelly;  “What about our plan – getting legal advice?”

"That's the law!"

Diane points out that Elin said they had no chance;  that it is Sara’s responsibility to provide a home for Ifan and look after him, as his mother.   “That’s the law!”

"That's what I've been doing the last three years!"

“Yeah – and that’s what I’ve been doing for the last three years!” Kelly screams, “While she’s been gallivanting!”

"But you never adopted him, did you?"

Diane is well aware of that;  “But unfortunately, you never adopted him, did you?”   Kelly begs her not to do this.

Gwern ignores Dani

Gwern is lying in bed and turns away when he hears someone coming into his room;

She notices the photos on the floor

it is Dani, who sees all the photos scattered on the floor.   “Why don’t you come downstairs?” she asks, “You’ve been staying in here for days – a bit of company would do you good.

"Why don't you go and meet Kylie?"

“Why don’t you go and meet Kylie – you know, the girl Britt and Colin have fostered?   That would be nice, wouldn’t it?

"Pancakes and bacon"

“Anyway, I’ve made pancakes and bacon downstairs – there’s nothing better, is there?   You know, breakfast for lunch.”

Still no response

There is absolutely no response, so after assuring him that the food is waiting for him,

Gabriel is tucking in

she goes back downstairs, where Gabriel is already eating.

"I thought the smell of bacon would do the trick"

“There was me, thinking that she smell of bacon would do the trick!” Dani snarls, “And he’d pulled down all these photos, too.”

"A kick up the backside might do him some good"

Jinx thinks that perhaps she should insist that he comes down;  “A kick up the backside might do him some good.”   However Dani does not want any arguments, pointing out that Gwern is still angry and she is glad he agreed to come back.

"He didn't have much choice, did he?"

“He didn’t have much choice, did he?” is Jinx’s reply.   Dani reminds him that Gwern has a habit of running away, so they have to be careful how they deal with him.   “Do you think we’re being too careful?” Jinx wonders.

"Make a bit more effort with him, Jinx"

“No, I don’t – and I’d appreciate it if you could make a bit more effort with him,” Dani reprimands him.

Sioned is back at the clinic

Sioned has returned to the clinic from which she ran away, alone this time, and walks in somewhat fearfully.

"Ah, Sioned, come in"

A voice greets her, “Ah, Sioned, come in.”

"Sara's promised we can see him"

Back at number 7, Diane informs Kelly, “Sara’s promised that we can see Ifan whenever we want.”

"She expects us to believe that, does she?"

“Yeah – and she expects us to believe that, does she?” Kelly demands.

"We don't have any other choice"

It is stressed that they have no other choice.   “Wow, Diane, she’s really got inside your  head, hasn’t she?   I thought we were going to stick together.”

Diane says that Ifan could have a stable home in Lampeter;

"He has a stable home here!"

Kelly inevitably emphasises that he has a stable home there in Cwmderi.

"Not while Sara's threatening to take him away"

Diane disagrees;  “Not while Sara’s threatening to take him away – and she’s not going to stop – I can tell you that!   She’s turned her life around completely.”

Kelly simply laughs at this allegation, as Diane continues, “She has a stable relationship, a lovely house with plenty of room.”

"I don't care if they've got a castle!"

“I don’t care if they’ve got a castle – it’s not Ifan’s home,” Kelly growls.

"The law is on her side"

Diane promises that Sara is determined to get him back and the law is on her side.

"I thought you wanted to fight"

“I thought you wanted to fight,” says Kelly.

Diane does not know what she is supposed to do – they do not have a case;  “Fighting Sara in court isn’t going to help Ifan,” she says, which Kelly, in floods of tears, finds unbelievable.

Kelly rushes from the house

She grabs her keys and rushes out of the house.

"We'll try again with the scan, shall we?"

“So, we’ll try again with the scan, shall we?” asks the doctor, “I know you were nervous about it the last time I saw you.”

"You look exactly like him"

Sioned replies that was not why she ran away;  “I wanted to explain today before the scan – you look exactly like him.”

"Like who?"

He wonders what she means.

"My twin, John, who died when we were babies"

“Right, this is going to sound nuts now, but you look exactly like my twin, John, but he died – he died when we were babies.”

Dr Morris does not follow her reasoning

The doctor does indeed look incredulous;  “How do you know I look like him if he was a baby?”

"I had this 'bad trip'"

“I had this dream – well if I’m completely honest, I had a ‘bad trip’.   I was going through a difficult time, years ago, and I started messing around with drugs – I don’t do them now, obviously – I haven’t done them since.

"I saw John, as an adult"

“Anyway, I saw John as an adult, as if he had lived – and he looked exactly like you.   I know how this sounds, but when I saw you last time, it all came flooding back to me – John and the dream.

"I took it as some kind of sign"

“Because I’m having twins I think I took it as some sort of sign, or a bad omen or something like that.”

"Pregnancy can be a challenging time . . ."

He points out to her that pregnancy can be a challenging time for many women;

". . . the tiredness, the hormones"

“With all the changes the body’s going through – the tiredness, the hormones . . .”

"I'm positive I've met you before"

Sioned stops him there;  “I’m positive that I’ve met you before, Dr Morris!”

Jinx has set up a computer game . . .

Dani calls upstairs, “Gwern, come down – we’ve got a surprise for you.”   Jinx has set up a computer game on the television and they hear the sound of movement upstairs, which Jinx regards as a step forward.

. . . and Seren wants to have a go

“What game is that?” demands Seren and when told that it is football, she wants to have a go.   Dani reminds them that it belongs to Gwern.

Gwern actually comes downstairs

Gwern comes down and Dani points out the game to him;

"Why is he playing it, then?"

“Is it for me?   Why is he playing it, then?”

He disappears out of the door

He turns and walks straight out of the house.   Dani is now feeling out of her depth.

"Our paths might have crossed"

Dr Morris continues that Wales is a small place and it is possible that their paths have crossed before;  “I used to work in Carmarthen in the early pregnancy unit from 2015 to 2021.”

"I had my first miscarriage in 2017 . . ."

Sioned says that she had her first miscarriage in 2017, so it might have been then;

". . . and the second two years ago"

“And the second two years ago,” she adds.   He points out that it is only natural that she is worried about this pregnancy – and perhaps that is why she thinks seeing someone who looks like her brother is a bad sign.

"I think you may be under some strain"

However, he thinks that perhaps she is under some strain, considering the experiences she has had in the past;  anyone would be the same.

"You think I'm making a mountain out of a molehill"

“You think I’m making a mountain out of a molehill,” Sioned concludes,

"That's not true"

but he denies this.

"Auntie Britt, are you here?"

Gwern has gone to the MFC flat, where he calls for Auntie Britt, but she is not there.

He notices a photograph . . .

He notices a picture on display

. . . and after looking at it . . .

of Britt and Colin with Kylie

. . . turns it face downwards

and lays it face downwards.

Kelly is back

Diane is laying the table for tea at number 7, with slices of Battenberg, when the door opens and Kelly returns.

"I thought we could have a nice little tea together"

“I’ve been trying to phone you – I thought that we could have a nice little tea together,” Just the three of us.”   Kelly sinks to a chair

Kelly bursts into tears

and again bursts into tears with Diane trying to comfort her.

Gwern is kicking a football

Outside the former garage, Gwern is kicking a football at the roller shutter door;

Britt is on the way back to number 21

Britt, about to go into number 21, notices him and comes across.

"What are you doing, hiding over there"?"

“What are you doing, hiding over here?” she asks

"Thinking about stuff"

and he replies that he is thinking about stuff.   “Do you want company?” she enquires.

"I want to say sorry to Gwern"

Seren is drawing a picture;  “I want to say sorry to Gwern,” she tells Dani.

"He's not angry with you"

She is assured that she does not need to worry;  he is not angry with her.

The tension is palpable

There is definitely some tension in that household.

"You're a real Monk!"

As they sit on the fire escape Britt says, “You’re a real Monk!   This is where your father came to think about things – he spent hours here in his own little world.

"I miss him, too"

“I miss him, too – that’s why I can’t tell you how happy I am that you’re home.   We have to stick together, OK?   Anyway, are you missing your friends at the Detention Centre?”

"I didn't have any mates"

He replies that he did not have any mates there and she is surprised that he did not have one single friend;  then she suspects that something happened to him there, but he says that it did not.

"You're home now – a new start"

“I was just making sure everything was all right – well, you’re home now, anyway – a new start,” she says.

"It doesn't feel like home"

He complains that it does not feel like home and Britt appreciates that it must feel odd;  “But you’ve got Dani – she really regrets not being able to keep you out of that place – and Seren, Gabriel and Kylie.

"I know things aren't too great with Jinx"

“I know things aren’t too great with Jinx after everything – but he does make Dani  happy, doesn’t he?   And that’s a good thing, isn’t it?”

He kicks the football . . .

He suddenly jumps up, kicks the ball once against the roller shutter

. . . and then walks away

and walks away.

"Is the father around?"

“I’ve noticed that you’re here on your own today,” says Dr Morris, “Is the father around?”

"We're not together any more"

She answers that she and DJ are not together any more

"Do you have any other support?"

and he wonders whether she has any other support – someone who can help from day to day.

"Mam might have to go away 'with work'"

“I’ve got Mam – but she might have to go away for a while ‘with work’.”

He enquires further about DJ and whether he is going to be part of the children’s lives.

"Things are a little awkward at the moment"

She explains that he will, but things are a little awkward between them at the moment.   “I hurt him – and I don’t want the children to grow up knowing that and blaming me for it all.”

He can see that she is keeping her distance and she admits that she could not live a lie any more.

"There is counselling available"

“You might not be together any more, but that doesn’t matter when it comes to raising children – as long as you both love them, and I can already see that you do.   There is counselling available, if you think it would help.   It might be worth considering.”

Sioned will think about it

Sioned nods her agreement

"Why don't we do this scan?"

and he goes on, “But to start with, I think it would help you to know that the babies are OK, wouldn’t it?  So why don’t we do this scan to make sure everything’s all right?”

There is a knock at the door

There is a knock at the door of number 7;  after a pause, Kelly goes to answer it, finding that it is Sara.

"Thanks for getting in touch"

“Thanks for getting in touch,” she says, but before they get into all this,

"There's something I need to say"

there is something which Kelly needs to say.

"The last three years I've been there for Ifan . . ."

“The last three years I’ve been there for Ifan, right?   I’ve fed him, washed his clothes, taken him to school, day in, day out.

". . . I love that little boy more than anything"

“The reason that I’ve done that is because I love that little boy – more than anything in the world.”   Her voice is faltering by now, as she continues, “And he deserved someone who was going to stick around.”

"That's not fair, Kelly"

Sara maintains that is not fair, but is told, “I’ve put Ifan first every time – I’m not saying that in order for you to thank me, OK, Sara?

"I gave my child away"

“The reason I’m saying this is because I gave my child away – and I would just want to know that he’s OK.”

"Yes, I know – Paul"

Sara knows that she is talking about Paul and is sorry if this is bringing that period back to her.   “Making a decision like that never leaves you.”   Sara understands that;  Kelly sobs, “And you also know why I did it, don’t you?

"Paul deserved to be happy"

“Because Paul deserved to be happy – he deserved a better life than I could have given him.   After everything that happened with Ed, no way was Paul going to live in the shadow of that.”

"I'm in a lot better place now"

Sara says that is exactly how she felt when she left Ifan;  “But I’m in a lot better place now – I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t – that wouldn’t be fair.”

"Just don't make me regret this, OK?"

“Just don’t make me regret this, OK?” Kelly warns, “And we do it at Ifan’s pace –

"I swear, if you mess this up . . ."

“and I swear, if you mess this up . . .”   Sara promises that she is not going to do that

"Shall we go and tell him?"

and would like to go now and tell him that he can come and live with his mother.

Kelly nods her head

Kelly sadly nods her head.

"I really am grateful to you, Kelly"

“I really am grateful to you, Kelly – more than you know.”

Sioned  has undergone the scan

Having conducted the scan,

"Everything seems completely fine"

Dr Morris announces, “Everything seems completely fine with both of them,”

He shows the screen to Sioned

and shows Sioned the two babies on the screen.   “But you don’t want to know the sex?”   She confirms that is the case.

"We can do a scan every month if you like"

“Right, we could do a scan every month if you like – if it would help you worry less.”

"If it's with you"

If the appointment is with him, Sioned is enthusiastically in favour of that and he asks if she wants a photo of the scan to take with her.   She asks for two copies, so she can give one to DJ.

They come downstairs

As they come downstairs,

"There was a time when we were good friends"

Sara tells Kelly that she is amazing;  she picks up her bag and recalls that there was a time when the two of them were good friends.   “A lot of time has passed since then,” Kelly observes,

"We should arrange a sleepover"

“Right, now that we’ve told Ifan, perhaps we should arrange a sleepover, so that he can meet David and Math.   I’ll arrange that with you later on.”

Saras impulsively hugs her . . .

Sara tries to give Kelly a hug,

. . .but Kelly is quick to extricate herself

but she quickly frees herself and opens the door for Sara to leave.

"I'll make your life absolute hell, mind!"

Kelly’s final words are, “If you hurt Ifan, I promise I’ll make your life absolute hell, mind!   Understand?”

Kelly tries to come to terms with what has happened

Kelly closes the door behind Sara.
