Jinx gets an apple for Seren

Seren is getting ready for school and Jinx hands her an apple,

"I do appreciate the effort"

just as Dani comes downstairs, very smartly dressed.   “We’re only launching the new menu, but I do appreciate the effort,” he tells her,

"Don't draw too much attention away from the pizzas"

“Just don’t draw too much attention away from the pizzas, OK?   I’ve decided to do tasters and Siôn is writing a piece for Cwm Ni.”

"I've got an interview for a job"

Dani has bad news for him, “I’m not dressed like this for the launch, Jinx – I’ve got an interview for a job – today – Legal Secretary.”

"Why didn't you tell me"?

Jinx is outraged, demanding why she did not tell him

"I said last week I wanted to change jobs"

and she points out, “Hold on, I said last week I wanted to change jobs – and you just dismissed it and started talking about the launch again.”

He did not realise that she was serious and points out she said that she was happy at The Pizza Place.

"Sometimes I want more"

“And I am,” she replies, “But sometimes I want more.”

He concludes that he is not good enough for her;  “Dani, how could you do this today?   We’re launching the new menu!”   She advises him not to be dramatic and tells Seren to come along, warning Jinx that not everything is about him.

"Tegwen said she was all right"

At APD, Howard maintains that his sister said she was all right, but Mathew thinks otherwise;

'I'm worried Ioan is responsible"

“You saw that bruise on her arm – I’m worried Ioan is responsible.”   Howard simply would rather leave them alone;  Mathew protests he has already tried that, “But I can’t – I have to check that she’s OK!

"Are you going to let him hit your sister?"

“Are you going to stand here and let Ioan hit your sister?   I thought you were better than that!   Please, just phone one of your sisters and ask if they know anything.”

"Do I have to?"

Howard is reluctant to do this, so Mathew continues, “Please – or I’ll go and see Ioan myself – I know where his pub is.”

"I'll see what I can find out"

Howard agrees that he will see what he can find out.

Meanwhile DJ is on the phone;  “I know I won’t get the deposit back, but that’s the situation, isn’t it?   OK, thank you.”

"That was a waste of £300!"

Then he groans to Mathew, “That was a waste of £300!   I’d booked a trip to London as a surprise for Sioned and me – posh hotel, tickets for Moulin Rouge.”

"Do you want me to come?"

Howard immediately pipes up, “Do you want me to come?”

"It wouldn't be a romantic break with you!"

Mathew does not consider that it would be a romantic break if Howard were there.

"Have the police said anything else?"

Then Diane comes into the shop, asking if the police have said anything else about Jason, but is told there is nothing new.   “Has anything else made you suspicious?   Anything missing?”

"I thought you were hiring a private detective"

Howard was under the impression she was hiring a private detective to do the work, not doing it all herself.   “I want to give him as much information as possible when he starts, so if you do think of anything, let me know.”

"Perhaps you should check Bryntirion"

Mathew suggests that perhaps she could check Bryntirion, just in case, but she has already done that when he first went missing.

"It might be worth checking again"

“It might be worth checking again,” she concludes, “I’ll go up there later – and thanks for the contribution – I really appreciate it.”

Dai is waiting for her

Dai is waiting for her outside the deli

"How are things going, Diane?"

and Hywel comes across the road, asking them how things are going.   Diane is in a hurry to go into the deli, but Hywel wants to discuss something with her.

“People have been asking about council business that needs sorting out.”

"Diane is in no state to discuss council matters"

Dai insists that Diane is in no state to discuss council matters with him.

"My head's not in the right place, Hywel"

Diane agrees that he is right and her head is not in the right place;  she wonders if he could deal with the problems at the moment.

Ffion is having trouble with Deri Fawr

Ffion is withdrawing some money from the cash machine and comes over, also wanting a word with Diane;  “I’m having trouble finding out who owns the land at Deri Fawr.”

"Have you consulted the Land Registry?"

Hywel asks if she has consulted the Land Registry;  “Yes, but they can’t find any records – they suggested I talk to someone on the council.”

He does not seem very keen to get involved, but says that he will do his best – and if he does not have any luck he will talk to Griffiths;

"If he's not too busy watching girls dancing"

“If he’s not too busy watching girls dancing!   Haven’t you heard?   He and a crew from APD went to a lap dancing club.”

"What?   And Mathew?"

Ffion is angry that this group included Mathew;  “You’d think Griffiths would know better,” comments Hywel.

"They all ought to know better!"

Ffion mutters that they all ought to know better and walks away.

Dai and Diane are in the deli

Inside the deli, Dai and Diane are being served their coffee by another young lady waitress;

"Is there any news, Diane?"

Dani comes in, ordering a latté to go, then asks Diane if there is any news.   She says that she has an interview;  she has seen the ‘GoFundMe’ posters and does intend to donate some money,

"I've just been so busy"

but has just been so busy.

“Well, if you’ve got a penny or two to spare, we really appreciate it,” says Dai;  Dani remarks that someone has given a donation of £5,000 this morning, which comes as a shock to Dai;

"Did you hear that, Diane?"

“Did you hear that, Diane?”

"You can find out who it was . . ."

“It didn’t say who it was – but you can find out – you created the account, so it’s the law – people can’t hide it,” Dani explains.   Then the waitress hands over her coffee

". . . I can take a look, if you want"

as Dani offers to take a look, if Diane would like that.

Dai is enthusiastically in favour of finding out,

"No – you concentrate on your interview, Dani"

but Diane tells Dani to concentrate on her interview;  she will do that another time.

Diane looks worried

Diane is looking worried while Dai is suspicious.

"I hope she still eats meat"

In the MFC flat, preparations for Kylie’s arrival are in full swing;  “I hope she still eats meat,” says Colin, and Britt replies that she did last time – and in any case they have plenty of vegetarian food.

"We've got enough for a wedding party of fussy people"

“Crikey – we’ve got enough food for a wedding party of fussy people!” she adds and Colin simply wants her to know how happy they are to have her back.

"What – are you sure?"

Britt’s phone sounds;  “Right – what?   Are you sure?   Kylie’s supposed to arrive any second!”

"Come up, Kylie!"

Indeed the buzzer sounds and Colin lets her in.

Britt has had some bad news

“Right, she’s here, so we shall tell her,” Britt goes on.

She hugs Kylie

Kylie comes upstairs with a different social worker and is greeted by Britt and Colin;  “Welcome to our new-look flat!” says Colin.   She is amazed that they have done all this for her and he hopes that it is not OTT.

"It's awesome!"

She describes the place as, “Awesome!”

"You'll see the names and their e-mails"

Outside in the street by The Pizza Place, while Jinx is giving away free tasters, Siôn is rushing around, taking photographs.   Hywel and Dai are arguing over the correct procedure to log into the app.   “You’ll see the names and their e-mails,” explains Hywel.

"Do you want a photo with Dani?|

Siôn asks if Jinx wants a photo with Dani

"She had somewhere more important to be"

and is informed, “She had somewhere more important to be.”

"Can you drive me over to Bryntirion?"

Diane wants Dai to drive her over to Bryntirion this afternoon, so she can try to find something which will help the detective.

"I've been doing some detective work as well"

“And I’ve been doing some detective work as well,” he announces, “I think we can find out who made the big donation to the account – give me your phone.”

"I'll use my phone, then"

Diane refuses, so he continues, “I’ll use my phone, then – it’s easy enough!”

She emphatically instructs him not to do so, so he demands why she does not want to know.

"I donated the money"

She has no choice but to admit, “Because I donated the money.”

"Crikey Moses!"

Dai comes out with his usual expletive, “Crikey Moses!

"It's only fair that I pay my share"

Diane insists that it is only fair that she pays her share;  “But did you have to pay so much?” he growls.

“Do you have any idea how much a private detective costs?” she snarls, “I thought it would encourage other people to donate more money.”

"My name's not Jeff Bezos!"

Dai moans that his name is not Jeff Bezos [Executive Chairman of Amazon] – they cannot afford to throw away £5,000 like that.

“I knew you wouldn’t understand,” Diane sighs,

"I just want to find my son"

“It doesn’t matter to me about the money – I don’t care about anything – I just want to find my son.”

Colin is looking across the road

Colin is peering through the blinds of the flat when Britt comes in to report that Kylie loves her bedroom;

"Who was that on the phone?"

he asks who it was on the phone earlier.   “Right, the home where her grandmother lives –

"Her grandmother's died"

“she’s died, around lunchtime,” she replies.

"Why today, of all days?"

Colin is aware that it sounds a bit selfish, but, “Why today, of all days?”

Britt feels likewise;  “She has to change friends, change school, change home.”

"Shall we not tell her until tomorrow?"

Colin suggests that they do not tell her until tomorrow, in order to give her chance to settle in first.   “But what if she wants to go and see her grandmother, to tell her about everything?” Britt asks.

"Do you have any more hangers?"

At that moment Kylie comes in, asking if they have any more hangers

She can see that something is wrong

and can immediately see that something is wrong.

"Come and sit down, Kylie . . ."

Britt invites her to sit down for a second,

". . . we have something to tell you"

as they have something to tell her.

"She won't even answer the phone"

In the Deri, DJ is complaining to his father that Sioned will not even answer the phone;  Dai wonders if he wants her back.   “She wants to cut all contact,” DJ groans,

"After all, you are the babies' father . . ."

but Dai is adamant there is no chance of that, after all, he is the babies’ father.

". . . aren't you?"

Then, after a moment’s thought, he adds, “You are the father, aren’t you?”

and DJ answers quite definitely that he is.   “Well, that’s something to look forward to,” says Dai.

DJ complains that Sioned does not want him at the scans or anything at the moment;  “Perhaps she doesn’t see me as part of their lives.”

Dai points out that he has rights – it is not going to be easy, but Sioned just needs some time.

"You put a roof over my head"

“At least, I’ve got you – you put a roof over my head,” remarks DJ;  his father advises him not to come over to Bryntirion this afternoon as Diane will be there, and he confirms that he has tidied up.

"You need to move on with your life"

“What you need to do now is move on with your life – organise a holiday in Magaluf or something – find a project for yourself.   It’s not going to be easy, but, with time, you’ll get through it, I’m telling you.”

"Don't tell tell Diane"

Dai decides that he will have just one more drink;  “But don’t tell Diane.”

Britt explains, “She went for a nap and when they went to wake her up for lunch, that’s when they realised that she had gone.”

Britt hugs Kylie

She gives Kylie a hug, as Colin brings in a glass of water

"Can I go and see her?"

“Can I go and see her?” Kylie asks.   Britt is sure that she will still be there until the undertaker comes and Kylie is determined to go and see her, if that is OK.

"You feel alone right now – but you're not"

“Listen, Kylie, I’m sure you feel alone right now, but you’re not – you really aren’t.

"You've got Colin and me – if you want"

“Because you’ve got Colin and me – if you want.”   Colin insists that there is no need to thank them,

"We're the ones whom are grateful"

because they are the ones who are grateful.

At Grifiths' Mami's house

Griffiths is back at his mother’s house with Hywel;

"Is this all council stuff, then?"

“Is this is all council stuff, then?” Hywel asks as they go through paperwork.

"Mami kept a record of everything"

“Yes, Mami kept a record of everything,” answers Ieuan.   Hywel is looking for anything to do with Deri Fawr farm – or any of the nearby farms.   “Diane’s making you do the hard work, is she?” smiles Griffiths,

"It's a difficult time for her"

but Hywel appreciates that it is a difficult time for her.   It is evident that they have a lot of work ahead of them.

"I considered talking a job near Flint"

“You’re lucky I’m still in Cwmderi,” Griffiths says, “I considered taking a job near Flint – just for a couple of weeks – as a business consultant.   I’m not sure someone who is bankrupt should give business advice.   With Deri Fawr, why don’t you ask John who owns the land?”

"John is not getting back to them"

“Ffion and her solicitor have tried but he is not getting back to them – what do you expect from him?” sneers Hywel, “Even the Land Registry couldn’t help either, according to Ffion.”

Griffiths has discovered something

Griffiths has obviously come across something very interesting – a letter addressed to his mother –

"Have you found something?"

but when asked if he has found something,

"Nothing important"

simply just dismisses it as nothing important, but he clearly has some significance.

A love letter to Eunice – from someone

A few sentences will convey the flavour of the communication:

‘I’m counting the days until I see you again.

You are the light of the moon in the darkness.

I think about you every day and can’t wait.’

"I'm going to cook for you tonight"

Mathew comes up the stairs to Cysgod y Glyn and proposes to cook for Ffion;  “Is pasta all right?”

"Did you go to a strip club last week?"

She remains silent for a few seconds, then demands, “Did you go to a strip club last week?”

"I didn't want to go"

He replies that he did not want to go.

"Yes, you were all dragged there!"

“I’m sure you were all dragged there, you poor things.   I hope you had fun, drooling over the girls!”

"Tegwen was there – working"

Her expression changes when he announces, “Tegwen was there – not with us – she was working.   Howard had a hell of a shock!   I don’t know how a girl like Tegwen can work somewhere like that.”

"Because men like you pay!"

“Because men like you pay – that’s what makes me sick!” Ffion rages, “It’s fine watching girls you don’t know dancing half naked – but when it comes to girls you do know, it’s wrong!

"I really am disappointed in you"

“I really am disappointed in you – all of you.”

"There's a contract here, with a map"

As they continue delving through the old papers, Hywel finds a contract with a map of the outskirts of the village with it.”   Griffiths maintains that it was common in the 70s for the council to sell the land to private companies;  this one being a deal with AC Valley Solutions.   There is still no reference to Deri Fawr.

Hywel finds some old photos

Then Hywel finds some photographs;  “There’s one of your mother – and this man looks familiar –

"Is that Brynmor?"

“is that Brynmor?”

"Can we do this another night?"

Suddenly Griffiths decides that he wants to do this another night as he has other things to do.

“Would you mind if I took a few of these boxes home?” says Hywel,

"Don't take that one!"

but is told not to take one particular box.

"Bye, then, Ieuan"

Griffiths appears eager to get rid of him, maintain that he needs to tidy up.

Ieuan has found a diary . . .

As soon as Hywel has gone, he sits down with a diary,

. . . which he finds riveting

reading its contents with interest.

"Are you sure you don't want a cup of tea, Diane?"

At Bryntirion, Dai shouts, “Are you sure you don’t want a cup of tea, Diane?”   She replies that she just wants to take a look and then go home.

Then she discovers, “Someone’s been here – in Jason’s room – someone’s been here!”

"Crikey – DJ!"

Dai mutters to himself, “Crikey – DJ!” as she comes downstairs carrying a cup, which someone has left there.

"And its got tea in it . . ."

“And it’s got tea in it – I’ve been in Jason’s room a number of times since he disappeared and this wasn’t in there.

". . . Jason's been here!"

“Jason’s been here!”

"No, Diane – DJ's been here"

Dai is forced to confess, “He hasn’t been here – DJ has been here.   He’s been staying here since being chucked out of Penrhewl – he was desperate – sorry, I should have told you.

Diane is devastated

Diane sinks into a chair and is in tears.

Seren does some colouring . . .

Seren is doing some colouring at number 9

. . . when her mother comes home

when her mother returns home, and demands whether they have been behaving.

"Everyone likes the new pizzas – except Howard"

Jinx asks how it went and confirms that everyone likes the new pizzas – apart from Howard.

"I got the job!"

Dani cannot wait to tell him the news, “I got the job!” which is greeted with a marked lack of enthusiasm.   Dani knows that he is not happy about it

"What does this say about us?"

and he wonders what this says about them.

"This isn't about you, Jinx"

“This isn’t about you – firstly the hours are better – nine to three, then I’m home.”

“If you worried about being there for Gwern, I can offer flexible hours,” Jinx suggests, but Dani maintains that she deserves more than this – or at least have the chance to try.

"And I don't need permission, OK?"

“And I don’t need permission, OK?” she adds

"DJ had nowhere else to go"

Dai goes on, “He had nowhere else to go – as this place was empty, it made sense.

"Sorry, I should have told you"

“Sorry, I should have told you.   He is my son, isn’t he?”

Diane sits down

Diane sits down mournfully on the sofa

"Say something, Diane"

and he urges her to say something.

"Jason's not coming back, is he?"

As tears flow down her cheeks, she realises, “Jason’s not coming back, is he?”   Dai agrees that it does not look like it.
