"PJ from APD is calling in" |
Eleri informs her father, “PJ from APD is calling in to give a quote for fitted wardrobes this morning.” He replies that she means DJ
"The one with the hot girlfriend who's dumped him" |
and she dismissively remarks, “I don’t know – the one with the hot girlfriend who’s dumped him.”
"I hope you don't think we're paying!" |
Kath, who is also there, tells her to hold on a minute; “I hope you don’t think we’re paying for these wardrobes.”
"What do you say, Dad?" |
Eleri answers that it is up to her father, and asks him what he says.
"Can we just have one day without this?" |
“Can we just have one day without this, please?” he groans and attempts to walk out of the room, but Kath calls him back.
"No, Brynmor, tell her!" |
“No, Brynmor, tell her! We won’t be paying, will we?”
"I think I've spent enough for now" |
He finds himself in rather a quandary and informs his daughter that he thinks that perhaps he has spent enough money for now. He wonders if she agrees with him, and then leaves the room.
"Well done, Kath – more of Dad's money for you!" |
Eleri gloats, “Well done, Kath – more of Dad’s money for you! Anyone would think it’s the only reason you’ve forgiven him and moved back in.”
"Sorry to hear about the burglary . . ." |
Diane walks into APD and Mathew asks if she is OK; “I just popped in to say I was sorry to hear about the burglary last week.
". . . Jason would be so angry" |
“Jason would be so angry – have they caught anyone?”
"The police are looking into a couple of new leads" |
Mathew tells her that the police are looking into a couple of new leads; “Have they spoken to you at all?” Diane has heard nothing from them and gets the idea that there is something Mathew is not telling her.
"What's going on, Mathew?" |
“What’s going on, Mathew?” she demands.
"The possibility that Jason stole the money" |
After a few moments’ pause, he informs her, “They’re looking into the possibility that Jason stole the money.”
The significance is not lost on Diane |
Diane realises the implications of this.
"Could I have change for £5?" |
Eileen comes into the Deri and asks the barman if she can have change for £5; “Everyone wants to go cashless.”
DJ has just arrived and tells Eileen that he has been trying to phone Sioned, but she is not answering.
"Can you tell who to phone me, please?" |
As she is handed five one-pound coins, DJ continues, “Can you tell her to phone me, please?”
"She's made her position clear" |
“Listen, DJ, she’s made her position clear,” stresses Eileen, but DJ regards her as being completely unreasonable.
"I want to make sure I do my part" |
“Listen, Eileen, we’ve known each other for years – I just want to make sure I do my part and help.”
"She's bound to discuss it with you" |
He is told that Sioned is bound to discuss this with him, but he protests that she is not willing to discuss anything.
"What will happen if – when – you go to jail?" |
“Have you thought about what will happen if – well, when – you go to jail? How is she going to cope with two babies and Huwi-John? And the businesses – and the farm on top of that?”
"I might not go to jail" |
Eileen raises the possibility that she might not go to jail;
"There's a real possibility you will" |
“No – but there’s a real possibility that you will,” he warns.
"PJ – would you like to come up?" |
At this point Eleri comes downstairs and addresses him as, “PJ – would you like to come up?”
"It does make sense, doesn't it?" |
At APD, Mathew explains, “After what Eleri told him and the access to the CCTV, plus the fact that he asked Mr Jones to pay for the job in cash . . . it might be a coincidence, but it does make sense, doesn’t it?”
Diane follows his reasoning . . . |
Diane can see his reasoning, so she immediately turns and hurries out of the shop;
. . . and hurries off to look for her son |
“I’m going to look for my son!” she exclaims.
"Have you thought of a family counsellor?" |
Now Cassie is behind the bar, at which Brynmor is drinking a cup of tea; “Listen, have you thought about going to a family counsellor?” she asks, “You know, the three of you could go together.”
"I don't like talking about personal things" |
Brynmor dismisses this idea; “I don’t like talking about personal things.”
"You talk to me" |
She reminds him that he talks to her and he continues, “I know that, but opening up in front of a stranger is completely different.”
"It's worth trying, isn't it?" |
Cassie maintains that it is worth trying; “Someone else could listen and you could reach some kind of agreement.”
"Would you do it, Cassie?" |
Brynmor asks if she would do it; “Be some kind of mediator for us,” but she dismisses the idea as she has no experience.
"All counsellors do is sit there and listen" |
He insists that all counsellors do is sit there and listen. “Please, Cass – we’re desperate!”
The Cae Glas enterprise is still going |
Various boxes and hampers are stacked up on the table at Penrhewl and we notice that Sioned is more obviously pregnant now.
"I feel a bit tired" |
She was going to ask her mother if she would take the boxes; “I feel a bit tired – I’ll come down to the deli later.”
"Wait until you've got two babies" |
“Wait until you’ve got two babies – then you’ll be tired,” says Eileen.
"That's why I'm making the most of my time now" |
Sioned replies that is why she is making most of her time now.
"Have you had a chance to talk to DJ?" |
“Have you had a chance to talk to DJ about what will happen when they have been born?” Eileen goes on, but is told that it is too early to think about that at the moment.
"How about a birth plan?" |
“How about a birth plan? Have you thought about that?”
"You'll be there, Mam" |
“You’ll be there,” Sioned immediately answers, but her mother casts doubt on that,
"There's a chance I could go to prison" |
as there is a chance that she could go to prison. Sioned does not appreciate her talking like that, but Eileen insists that she is merely being realistic.
"You're not suggesting I take DJ back?" |
“You’re not suggesting I take DJ back?” Sioned snarls, but she is told that she will need someone to support her.
"Huwi adores him" |
DJ is the babies’ father – and Huwi adores him.
"Oh, I see" |
Sioned realises where this is going; “Oh, I see – you want me to take DJ back so you don’t have to worry about Huwi-John!”
“No, I’m not saying that – you said yourself that DJ is going to be part of their lives – I just want you to come to an arrangement now.”
"When I'm ready to talk to DJ, I will" |
Sioned makes it very clear, “When I’m ready to talk to DJ, I will.
"But until then, less interference!" |
“But until then, less interference and more support, please, Mam!”
"You don't expect me to sit in a counselling session" |
Eleri is not impressed by her father’s suggestion; “You don’t honestly expect me to sit in a counselling session with you, Kath and Cassie, as if we’re on Oprah?”
"We can't live with all this tension" |
Brynmor makes it clear that they cannot live like this, with all this tension. “Like this morning – you and Kath can’t even discuss a cup of tea without arguing.”
"She should take out the teabag first" |
Eleri simply maintains that Kath should take the tea bag out before putting the milk in. “That’s not the point – if you’re not willing to change,
"We'll have to rethink the living situation" |
“well, we’ll have to rethink this living situation in the Deri.”
"Kath was more than happy at Maes-y-Deri last week" |
“Perhaps that would be best!” Eleri agrees, “Kath was more than happy at Maes-y-Deri last week.”
"Kath is not going anywhere!" |
He emphasises that Kath is his wife and is not going anywhere.
"Don't say you 're thinking of throwing me out?" |
Eleri angrily demands, “Don’t say you’re thinking of throwing me out?”
"We could find a nice little place for you" |
He maintains that he would not be throwing her out, but would have to find her a nice little place to live near the village.
"But I want to live with you" |
“But I want to live with you,” she insists.
"So change your attitude towards Kath" |
“If that is so, I suggest you change your attitude towards Kath, all right?” her father recommends. He shakes his head as he walks out of the room, with Eleri looking dismayed.
"I want to hire a private detective" |
Diane has managed to get some leaflets printed and shows one to Mathew; “I want to hire a private detective to look for Jason – these posters are to help raise money.”
"Isn't that the police's job?" |
Mathew is sceptical; “Jason Fund – a private detective? Isn’t that the police’s job?” Diane declares that the police are not doing enough, so that is why she has to do it. “Well, Jason had a lot of of loyal customers – I’m sure that a lot will want to contribute.”
"If he's still out there, he doesn't want to be found" |
Howard remarks, “I don’t see anyone finding him, though – if he’s still out there, he doesn’t want to be found – and I don’t blame him either! Not after stealing thousands of pounds and faking his own death – he’ll go to prison!”
She realises that Howard has a point |
Diane realises that is quite true.
Eileen hesitates outside the pharmacy |
Eileen is outside the pharmacy, where one of the ‘Jason Fund’ posters is in the window; she seems rather reluctant to go in. It appears that Maya is working there again
"Can I help you, Eileen?" |
and she rather coldly asks if she can help Eileen.
“I’m here about Sioned,” she begins, “She’s fine . . .
"We haven't always seen eye-to-eye" |
“this is a bit awkward because we haven’t always seen eye-to-eye.”
"Understatement of the year" |
“Understatement of the year!” says Maya and Eileen continues that, although she has no right to ask,
"Sioned will need some help after she has had the babies" |
Sioned will need help after she has had the babies – especially if Eileen is in prison.
"I'm thinking of going back to Liverpool" |
“I’m thinking of leaving and going back to Liverpool,” is Maya’s reply, “DJ will help.”
"Sioned doesn't want DJ around the place" |
Eileen explains that Sioned does not want him around the place and that she will be exhausted after getting home from hospital – and that is when things can go wrong.
"Sioned thinks the world of you, Maya" |
“And I need the twins to be all right – Sioned thinks the world of you, Maya – and I was wrong to treat you the way I did, so I’m so sorry – and I’m not just saying that because I need something, I mean it.”
"I don't think it';s my place" |
Maya still does not think that it is her place,
"Tell me how much you want" |
so Eileen proposes, “I’ll pay you! Tell me how much you want and I’ll pay it!”
Mayas does not like this approach |
Maya does not like the sound of this.
The session is about to begin . . . |
Cassie calls the warring parties to the table; “As there is no one else available, I had no choice but to do some simple research on this iPad. As I understand it, it’s very important that everyone gets a chance to talk.”
. . . and Cassie explains the rules |
She holds up a wooden spoon and instructs them, “When you’re holding it that’s the only time that you’re allowed to talk – that stops people interrupting each other, right?”
Kath seeks clarification of this, “OK, hold on a minute . . .”
Eleri pushes across the wooden spoon |
Eleri pushes the wooden spoon in her direction; “Why are you the peacemaker here?”
"Because Brynmor asked me" |
“Because Brynmor asked me – and I’m fed up with this situation myself,” says Cassie.
"Well, I've got my daughter back" |
Brynmor makes a start; “Well, I’ve got my daughter back and I’m lucky to have the two women who mean more to me than anything – but I’d like there to be more . . . co-operation . . . and less falling out.”
Not falling out . . . |
Kath
. . . seems rather a tall order |
and Eleri look accusingly at each other.
"It's never-ending today" |
At APD, DJ remarks that it is never-ending today, but Mathew is looking at the laptop, particularly the ‘Jason Fund’ thing.
"Have many people donated?" |
“Have many people donated?” DJ asks and Mathew points out that the Deri has given £200.
"Do you think we should give something?" |
“Do you think we should give something on behalf of APD?” wonders Mathew, “If he stole the money, then no way . . . but, on the other hand, if it helps to find him . . .”
DJ is undecided whether he is still alive, but Mathew feels that he has to ‘do the right thing’ here, although DJ points out that he has already lost thousands of pounds.
He makes a donation |
“If this contribution helps to bring Jason back home, it will be worth it!” he finally decides.
"Can I finish a bit early?" |
DJ would like to finish work a little early today and Mathew tells him to go.
Diane gets her drink |
Diane collects her drink from the bar
Sioned and Maya arrive at the Deri |
as Sioned and Maya come into the Deri; “I hear that the rugby team are going to start training next week,” says Sioned and Maya is looking forward to it.
"No problem – I'll bring them over" |
“You’re staying in Cwmderi for a while?” Sioned goes on, and as she pays for their drinks, the barman utters the first words that we have heard, that he will bring the drinks over for them.
"Make sure they don't take over everything" |
“Have you heard – the men’s team are starting training again next week? Make sure they don’t take over the equipment and the whole pitch,” Sioned reminds Maya,
"Shame you won't be there to put them in their place" |
who thinks that it is a shame that she will not be there to put them in their place.
She proposes that she might be there to watch them train, which will be a good excuse not to be at home with Mam; “She insists that I won’t be able to cope without her if she has to go to prison – but I will be able to cope!”
"Will DJ be helping?" |
“Will DJ be helping?” Maya demands,
"I find it hard to be in his company" |
but Sioned replies that she finds it hard to be in his company; if she is to be completely honest, not having him around has been a relief.
"You'll be desperate for his help" |
“But by the time you have the babies, you’ll be desperate for his help,” Maya predicts, “I suppose that’s what your Mam’s trying to tell you.” Sioned is very surprised to hear Maya sticking up for her mother. “She wants what’s best for you – like us all.”
"You're not even hiding it now, are you?" |
DJ comes in and sneers, “Huh – you’re not even hiding it now, are you?”
"Do you want to go?" |
so the two of them leave, having not touched their drinks.
"Everything's my fault now, is it?" |
Relations are not improving in the Deri flat; Eleri snatches the spoon from Kath and snarls, “Everything’s my fault, is it? What worries me is how badly you overreacted when Dad gave me a little bit of money.”
"A little bit of money?" |
“A little bit of money!” says Kath, incredulously, “Well, it wasn’t the money that was important – it was the fact that we hadn’t discussed it – but we understand each other now – don’t we, love?”
"I'm sure you have a few secrets" |
Not to be outdone, Eleri exclaims, “Dad and I understand each other, too; it’s only natural for us to have a few secrets. I’m sure you and your kids have secrets Dad doesn’t know about – especially with the scandals you’ve been part of over the years!”
"Scandals?" |
Now Kath is becoming really angry; “Scandals?” she growls, “What are you saying about my family?”
"Right – that's enough!" |
Before this escalates any further, Cassie calls a halt to the proceedings; “All right, that’s enough – you can’t carry on like this! Life will be unbearable – you have to be nicer to each other!”
"I'll throw myself under a bus!" |
Eleri groans, “Please don’t say ‘Be kind’ or I’ll throw myself under a bus!”
"The buses have all been cancelled – what a shame" |
Kath dolefully comments, “The buses have all been cancelled – what a shame!”
Cassie attempts to plough on, “According to research, you need to forget about the past – that’s a good start – you need to let go of all this bitterness.
"P{ay each other compliments every day" |
Secondly you need to pay each other compliments every day – try it now.”
"You've got beautiful hair" |
Kath finds paying a compliment to Eleri an absolutely alien concept, simply muttering, “You’ve got beautiful hair.”
"You've got a nice smile" |
“Thank you,” replies Eleri, “You’ve got a nice smile.”
"That wasn't painful, was it?" |
Cassie hails this exchange, “There we go – that wasn’t painful, was it? I think that’s enough for today.” Eleri is outraged that she has to go through this again, but her father considers that another session would do everyone some good.
Cassie returns to the bar |
Cassie will now return to the bar, while Brynmor thanks his wife and his daughter;
"You were almost quite civil to each other" |
“You were almost quite civil to each other.”
Eleri smiles annoyingly, “Anything for you, Dad.
"I didn't know you were such a chef" |
Up in the pharmacy flat, Maya is cooking. Sioned did not know that she was such a chef; “You’re full of surprises aren’t you?” Maya apologises that her culinary efforts have seriously gone downhill since being single.
"I want to be there for you" |
“I will be able to help you, you know, when the babies come – I want to be there for you,” she adds.
"I'm going to get some ginger" |
Then she finds that there is no ginger left and will hurry to the shop to get some.
"Find us a good film to watch" |
She tells Sioned to find a good film for them to watch tonight.
Maya is waylaid by Eileen |
She is just going out into the street when she meets Eileen;
"Can I come in?" |
“Maya, two seconds, please – can I come in?” Maya wants to know what she is doing there.
"I want to give you this" |
“I want to give you this,” Eileen tells her, delving into her bag and coming up with a brown envelope. “There’s £5,000 in there.”
"You need to leave!" |
Maya is incensed, “No – not now – you need to leave!”
"This will be our secret" |
Eileen promises they will discuss the situation again after the babies are born; “This will be our secret – no-one else needs to know.”
"What are you doing here . . ." |
At this point Sioned comes out, having heard her mother’s voice, and demands what she is doing there,
" . . .and what is that?" |
noticing what is in her mother’s hand;
"I wanted to make sure someone would look after you" |
“I wanted to make sure there was someone here to look after you if I go to prison,” replies Eileen.
“So that’s why you were defending Mam earlier,” Sioned realises. “I would expect this from you, Mam,”
"But you?" |
but then she turns to Maya, “But you?” and she storms off,
"I would never accept the money!" |
as Maya calls after her that she would never accept the money and wants to talk properly to Sioned about it.
"Go back to Liverpool!" |
Sioned’s response is to shout, “Go back to Liverpool!” Maya disappears back into the flat, while Eileen replaces the money in her bag.
Diane is downcast |
In the Deri, Cassie notices Diane, looking downcast, and asks how the fundraising is going.
"Thanks for the contribution" |
“Not bad – thanks for the contribution from the Deri – it was very generous.”
"I want to bring this to an end" |
Cassie is keen to do anything to help bring this situation to an end.
Diane says that her head is all over the place;
"Perhaps I should stop the whole thing" |
“I’ve talked to a couple of private detectives – the cheapest is £200 an hour. It doesn’t matter how generous people are, I won’t collect anywhere near what’s needed. Perhaps I should stop the whole thing.
"What if Jason is . . ?" |
“What if Jason is . . . I’ll just be wasting everyone’s money.”
"You're doing everything in your power, Diane" |
Cassie reassures her that she is doing everything in her power to try and find him.
