Rhys approaches across the road

Mathew is sweeping up outside APD when Rhys comes running across the road;  

"I wanted to fit in a run"

he says he wanted to fit in a run before he started seeing clients.   Mathew presumes that last night was a quiet one;  

"You couldn't find anyone to go out with you"

“You couldn’t find anyone to go out with you,” but Rhys insists that he did go out and had a good night.

"It obviously wasn't that wild!"

Mathew is sceptical;  “It wasn’t that wild if you’re running this morning!”   Rhys maintains that going for a run is the best way to get rid of a hangover, but Mathew does not believe a word of it.

Rhys alleges, “I met this girl – 

"You've turned old and boring"

“but you’ve turned old and boring since you bought this place.”   

"I've settled down – you should try it!"

However Mathew replies that he is happy and has settled down, recommending that Rhys should try it.

"I have work to do on the accounts"

At Y Felin, Anita comes downstairs in her dressing gown and finds that Siôn is already up, informing her that he has work to do on the accounts.   

"You must have millions"

“You must have millions if you’re concentrating so much,” she sarcastically comments.

"I think I've got enough"

“I’m not a millionaire, but I think I’ve got enough,” he says, as he opens the laptop.   Anita assumes that he means enough to retire, but he has other ideas;  “I’m going to invest in a business – set myself a new challenge.”

"What have you got in mind, Lord Sugar?"

“What have you got in mind, Lord Sugar?” she jokes, 

"I'm going to buy the café"

and is very surprised by the answer, that he is going to buy the café.   

"The café you told me not to buy?"

“Kelly’s café?” she demands, “The café you told me not to buy?”   Siôn points out that this is different, 

"It would have spoiled your relationship"

as it would have spoiled their relationship.

"Or that's what you wanted me to think"

“Or did you persuade me to think that, so that you could get your hands on place?” she enquires, angrily;  

"Well, do you want to buy it?"

he asks whether she wants to buy it, whether she wants to see Kelly in trouble, and she snarls, “Of course I don’t!”

“What is it, then?   Do you want to see an empty building?” Siôn continues, “Another business gone to the wall?” 

Anita storms off

and she storms back upstairs.

"See – you do like smoked salmon"

Kath has just eaten her breakfast, and Brynmor points out, “See – you do like smoked salmon.”   She advises that she also likes tinned salmon, 

"Is this how you eat at Brynawelon?"

and wonders if this is how he eats all the time at Brynawelon.   “That’s one thing I don’t like about the place,” he groans, “There’s no control over when and what we eat – 

"I do miss cooking in my own home"

“I do miss cooking in my own home.”

"You're welcome to cook here whenever you like"

“You’re welcome to cook here whenever you like,” Kath assures him, just as Mark comes into the room 

"Help yourself to the smoked salmon"

and is invited to help himself to the leftover smoked salmon.

"Bacon not good enough for you, then?"

“Bacon not good enough for you, then?” Mark sneers, and Brynmor replies that he wanted to make Kath something special.   

"Brynmor's spoiling me, Mark"

“Brynmor’s spoiling me, Mark,” says his mother, which Mark regards as posh and expensive.

"I'll go up for a shower . . ."

“Right, I’ll go up for a shower – you’re OK to clear up, are you, Mark?” says Brynmor, 

" . . .we can save some water!"

“Are you coming up, Kath?   We can save some water!”   

"You're naughty, Brynmor!"

She describes him as naughty, but nevertheless follows him upstairs, 

"Just leave it, Mark!"

after first warning Mark, “I know what your game is, good boy – just leave it!”

"Sorry, I'm cleaning the machine"

Mathew arrives at the café for his usual coffee, and Kelly makes the excuse that she is cleaning the machine, as she forgot last night;  

"I'll get Jason to bring it over"

“Tell you what, I’ll get Jason to bring it over for you.”   

"Are you making coffee from a jar, kelly?"

Anita has just come in, and is disgusted to see Kelly is making coffee from a jar;  

"If I can't sell coffee I might as well close!"

she explains, “The engineer still hasn’t been – if I can’t sell coffee, I might as well close, full stop!   

"I'm just scraping by, and now this, like!"

“It’s pointless – I’m just scraping by, and now this, like!”

Anita announces that she has some good news – as long as Kelly promises not to say anything.   

"Have you magicked up a new coffee machine?"

“Have you magicked up a new coffee machine?” Kelly demands, 

"Siôn is going to invest in the café"

but is told that Siôn is going to invest in the café.

Jason is just coming downstairs and overhears this;  

"Siôn?   That's good news, isn't it?"

“No way?   Serious?” he shouts, “Siôn – that is good news, isn’t it?”   

"I won't tell anyone, Anita"

Anita angrily complains that he was not supposed to hear that, but he assures her he will not tell anyone.

“Whoa, now – hang on!” Kelly squeals, “How much and when?   Because I really need the help, like.”   As Jason is about to leave for work, 

"Jase – take this coffee to Mathew"

he is told to take the coffee for Mathew.

"Dani – your daughter . . ."

Eileen arrives at the Deri flat in a state of agitation and announces to Dani, “Your daughter . . .”   

"You mean Seren?"

Dani assumes she means Seren, 

"Satan, more like!"

and Eileen goes on, “Satan, more like!   Have you seen Huwi’s injuries – she bit him this morning – I’ve never seen such a thing!”   

"You've Photoshopped that!"

She is furious when Dani accuses her of ‘Photoshopping’ the picture on her phone, and rages, “Your daughter’s out of control!”   As they shout at each other, 

"They can hear you down in the bar"

Garry comes in to say that they can be heard downstairs in the bar.   

Eileen does not care who hears;  “Seren’s behaving like an animal!”   

"Huwi is upset"

Dani explains what has happened and that Huwi is upset;  “And I’m upset, too!” Eileen roars, 

"It's only a little nip"

but Garry dismisses it as a little nip.   

"Does that look like a little nip to you?"

“Does that look like a little nip to you?” she exclaims, “Personally, I blame the parents – 

"She doesn't know whether she's coming or going!"

“the child doesn’t know if she’s coming or going with you, him, Jaclyn, Dylan and Gwyneth!”

Garry stresses that this is nothing to do with Gwyneth, 

A girl from a stable family would not have done it"

but is told that a little girl from a stable family would not have done such a thing.   

"Who do you think you are?"

Now it is Dani’s turn to shout, “Who do you think you are – barging in here?” and Garry attempts to calm her down.

Garry attempts to calm matters down . . .

He decides they will have a word with Seren, they will discuss this together, and hope that Huwi gets better soon.   This seems to placate Eileen, 

. . . bit Dani does not appear calm

but obviously not Dani.

Gerwyn appreciates the smoked salmon

At Maes-y-Deri, Gerwyn has just polished off the smoked salmon, which he found very tasty.   

"Why is he making such a fuss of Mam?"

“Why do you think Brynmor’s making such a fuss of my mother?” Mark demands, and Gerwyn suggests that he might like her, or that he is trying to make an impression.   

"He must want something"

Mark is convinced there is more to it than that;  “He must want something,” 

"Of course he wants something!"

and Gerwyn smirks that of course he wants something.   “Not that, you pig?” Mark snarls, “He said he missed having his own home – 

"He wants the house, doesn't he?"

“he wants the house, doesn’t he?   This house – the only thing of value Mam has.”   Gerwyn cannot imagine why he thinks that, and now must go to work.

Mark investigates Brynmor's bag

Mark sees Brynmor’s bag on a chair, and starts to investigate its contents, 

"What do you think you're doing, Mark?"

unfortunately just as Kath and Brynmor return from their shower;  “What do you think you're doing, Mark?” she demands.   

Mark is caught in the act

He is caught red-handed.

Jason puts out the pots

As Jason brings some large pots out of APD, Siôn happens to be passing;  

"Thanks for saving the café, Siôn"

“Hey, Siôn – I know it’s not official, but I just wanted to say thanks for saving the café.   Anita mentioned it – and it’s such a relief, I can tell you.”   

"You've misunderstood, Jason"

Siôn says that he has misunderstood, 

"The thing is, the coffee machine is broken"

but Jason goes on, “Thing is, the coffee machine is broken – I know it’s a cheek . . .”

"I'm on my way to the café"

Siôn stops him there;  “I’m on my way to the café – you’d better come with me.”   They both head in the direction of the café and Mathew is not happy to see a member of his staff disappearing, although Jason promises to be only ten minutes.

"Tell her there's something wrong with this coffee!"

“Tell her there’s something wrong with this coffee!” Mathew shouts after him.

"Here he is, my saviour!"

Kelly welcomes Siôn, “Here he is, my saviour!” 

"I've explained we need a new coffee machine"

and Jason says that he has explained all they need is a new coffee machine – top of the range – before he makes things official.

"I want to buy the building"

When Siôn gets a chance to speak, he begins, “I don’t know what Anita has told you – I want to buy the building.”   

"Where am I going to live?"

Kelly is stunned that this includes the flat, wondering where she is going to live.   

"I'm not going to invest in a failing business"

“I’m not going to invest in a failing business” he goes on, which she regards as ‘charming’.

"You can't kick me out of a job and the flat!"

“You can’t kick me out of a job and the flat, Siôn!” she shrieks, but he was under the impression she needed the money.   “I’m going to lose everything!” she wails.

"I want to start from scratch!"

Siôn apologises that he misunderstood, but does not want to invest;  he wants to buy, and start from scratch.   “A new name, new ethos, a new emphasis – and I had hoped to keep you on.”   

"The job or the flat?"

Kelly wonders if that means the job or the flat, and he would like it to be both.

“I’d be the manager, but I’d like to employ you – it would be done properly with a fair contract,” he emphasises, 

"And my wages will go to the rent"

but she can foresee her wages going towards paying the rent.   “I’ll give you time to think – just phone me when you’ve decided,” he says and he leaves the café.   

"What's it to be, Kelly?"

Jason wants to know what her response will be.

"How dare you rifle through his things?"

Kath is livid with Mark:  “How dare you rifle through his things like that?   He’s our guest!”   

Mark maintains that he is trying to stop Brynmor making a fool of his mother;  

"He's obviously hiding something from you"

“He’s obviously hiding something from you – haven’t you heard about men who take advantage of women your age?”   She demands what age has to do with it, 

"Brynmor is a crook!"

and he continues to insist that Brynmor is a crook.

"I've lived with you long enough!"

“Listen, I think I can recognise a crook when I see one – I’ve lived with you long enough!” she points out, “And who married Debbie?   You’re only worried about yourself, as usual, Mark.   

"It suits me – and this is my house!"

“It doesn’t suit you that Brynmor’s here, but it suits me – and this is my house!”

"Yes, the house he's trying to take from you!"

“Yes, the house that he’s trying to take from you,” Mark alleges, but is told that he does not have an ounce of evidence for that.   

"I think I'd better go"

Brynmor interrupts this argument, with the suggestion that he should go, which is strongly resisted by Kath.

"I don't want to come between you and Mark"

“You’ve been so accommodating, but I think it’s about time I left,” he says, “The last thing I want to do is come between you and Mark.”   

"You're not – is he, Mark?"

Kath demands that Mark tell him he is not coming between them, 

Mark remains silent

but Mark refuses to say a word.   

"It was fun while it lasted, Kath"

“It was a lot of fun while it lasted, Kath,” Brynmor assures her, “Thank you.”   

"Brynmor, don't go!"

He walks out of the house, despite Kath’s objections.

Kelly appears to have reached a decision

Kelly closes a box of paperwork and Jason comes upstairs carrying a cup of coffee;  

"Look what Iolo and I have done!"

“Look what Iolo and I have done!” 

"You've fixed the machine!"

and she realises he has fixed the machine, but wonders how much coffee he has spilt on the stairs.

"The proverbial has really hit the fan"

She confesses, “The proverbial has really hit the fan,” 

"You'll be able to sell proper coffee now"

but he tries to console her with the fact she will be able to sell proper coffee now.   “Not enough to keep us afloat,” she goes on, 

"I'm sick of worrying"

“I’m sick of it – waking up every night, worrying about money.”

"I could sell my share of APD"

Jason suggests he could sell his share of APD, and could invest some of that money in the café, 

"No – that's Ifan's future!"

but Kelly will not have that, reminding him, “That is Ifan’s future – no!   Game over!”

The call Siôn was waiting for

She dials Siôn’s number on her phone;  at Y Felin he rushes to answer the call and hears her voice, 

"I'm going to accept your offer"

“I’ve had a chance to think it over, and I’m going to accept your offer.”   He says that is great news and he is so pleased;  

"I promise you can stay in the flat"

he promises her she can stay in the flat, and they will talk again later.

"The chat we need, Dani . . ."

When Dani walks into the Deri flat, she finds Garry there again;  “That chat we need to have,” he says, 

"I'm tired, Garry"

but she argues that she is tired.   

"What if I give Seren her bath and read her a story?"

“All right – what if I give Seren her bath, and read her a story?” he suggests, “It’s not too late, is it?”

"She won't tell me why she bit them"

Dani admits that Seren is upset and will not tell her mother why she bit Huwi or Greta.   Garry is concerned that it is the second time this week, and Dani comments, “Oh, you’re interested now, are you?”   

"She has nightmares and wets the bed"

He insists he is not there to argue, and she points out that their daughter will not settle at night, she has nightmares, wets the bed, and Dani does not know what to do.

Garry wonders why she did not tell him all this, and she rages, “Tell you what?   That she can’t cope with what we’ve done to her?”   He replies that he is here now, and Dani laughs, “That makes everything fine, does it?”

"We needs to create some stability for her"

“We need to create some stability for her,” he says 

"Will you come over every night to do that . . ."

and Dani asks if he will come there every night to read her a story and give her a bath.   “If that is what’s needed, yes,” he replies, “We have to try something – and I promise I won’t be in the way.”

". . . and you'll be gone by seven?"

“She’ll be in bed, and you’ll be gone by seven?” Dani wonders, 

"Yes, I promise"

and he promises that will be the case, so she tells him to carry on.   

He takes the book with him

He takes off his jacket, picks up the story book, and gets on with it.

Rhys is dealing with the gym's accounts

Rhys is dealing with the gym’s accounts and refuses the offer of a can from Dylan;  “Your mystery woman hasn’t cancelled on you again, has she?” 

"It's always complicated when they have children . . ."

Rhys says that her daughter is ill;  “It’s always complicated when they have children – 

". . . as you know with Sara"

“you know that yourself with Sara.”   Dylan reminds him that now there is Dani, as well.   “Is that why you finished with Sara – because of Ifan?” Rhys enquires, 

"Ifan was great – it was his mother!"

and he replies that Ifan was great, then turns the question back on Rhys, asking if that was why he finished with Ffion.

"Arwen and me were buddies"

“No, Arwen and me were buddies – still are,” Rhys answers, “Her Mam was the problem.”   

"Aled's mam was the problem, too!"

Dylan recalls that Aled’s mam was the problem, too, or he would have stuck around, but he and Aled are getting there now;  he says that he is reminded every day how much he has missed out on.

"I've got a daughter, Gwen"

“I know how you feel,” Rhys agrees, “Not about Arwen, I’ve got a daughter, Gwen, she must be 11 now – she was adopted – I think about her a lot.   

"I sometimes dream she's on the doorstep"

“I sometimes dream that she’s 18 and is on the doorstep.   Well, if it happens, I can come to you for tips.”

"I don't think you need any tips"

Dylan does not think he needs any tips, 

Rhys thinks he will have a can after all

and Rhys changes his mind about the can.

"She's fast asleep"

Dani is sitting solemnly in the Deri flat when Garry returns from his task and informs her, “She’s fast asleep.”   He puts the book back on the table. 

Dani is grateful to him

Dani is very grateful,  

"Do you need anything?"

and he asks if she needs anything;  

"I'll see you tomorrow evening"

he will go now and will see her tomorrow evening.
