Iolo crosses the road from the shop

Iolo comes out of the shop and crosses the road to number 7;  

"Hywel and I are thinking of you"

Gaynor has just emerged from the café and tells him, “I just wanted to say that Hywel and I are thinking of you – 

"It's important to remain positive"

“it’s important to remain positive – it makes a world of difference.”   

He escapes into the house as quickly as possible

He is not impressed by this, and quickly goes inside the house.

Izzy has lost something

In the shop flat, Izzy is frantically searching for something;  Mathew comes in and says that he has to go to the wholesalers after work, but will not be back late. “What are you looking for?” he asks, 

"The bracelet I got from Thailand"

and she explains that the bracelet she got from Thailand has disappeared;  and she was sure that it was in the bathroom.

"Who knows what's down the back of that sofa?"

“Who knows what’s down the back of that sofa?” he exclaims, and then has to leave for work, but Izzy is very frustrated.

Initially Eifion's presence goes unnoticed . . .

At Penrhewl, Eileen and Sioned come in, with Eileen complaining, “It’s not eleven yet, and my stomach thinks it’s lunchtime.”

Then they are suddenly aware of Eifion sitting in the corner;  he says he would like plenty of butter on his toast.

"I thought there was a bad smell in here!"

“I thought there was a bad smell in here,” snarls Sioned and her mother informs him he has no right to be there.   

"Part of the fence needs repairing"

He advises them that part of the fence between Deri Fawr and Penrhewl needs repairing.   “And what business is that of yours?” Sioned demands;  

"I live at Deri Fawr now, and work for John"

he replies that he lives there now, and works for John.

"You always land on your feet"

“How do you do it, Eifion?   You always land on your feet,” Sioned continues, and he argues that some farmers appreciate having a good worker around.   They agree to fix the fence this afternoon and are pleased to see the back of Eifion, who tells Eileen to cancel the toast.

"Does John realise what he's done?"

“Does John realise what he has done, employing him?” growls Eileen.

Anita has taken round some cakes, which Greta helped to make, to Iolo;  

"She went to a lot of trouble with that icing"

“She went to a lot of trouble with that icing,” she says, 

"Yes, she enjoys cooking"

and he agrees that she enjoys cooking.   “She’s a very sweet girl, isn’t she?   She depends on you a lot – 

"That's why you have to be brave"

“that’s why you have to be brave and not worry too much.”

"That's easier said than done"

He reminds her that is easier said than done, and she goes on that she has been thinking about Meic;  

"It makes a difference to think positive"

“You’d be surprised how much of a difference it makes to think positive – Meic did.”

"A load of good that did him!"

“A load of good that did him!” Iolo replies critically, 

"And Mam – it saved her, didn't it?"

“And Mam – thinking positively saved her under the knife, didn’t it?”   

Anita shakes her head

Anita sadly shakes her head 

"It's driving me mad!"

as he adds, “Listening to people telling me to be brave, to keep fighting, is driving me mad!   It’s as if they are saying Mam and Meic didnt fight hard enough.”

"People didn't mean that, Iolo"

Anita protests that people do not mean that, but it sounds like that to Iolo.     She maintains that she is only trying to cheer him up – for his sake and Greta’s.   

"Listening to your mumbo-jumbo isn't going to help1"

He tells her, “Someone has to face the fact that Greta could lose her father – listening to your mumbo-jumbo about thinking positively isn’t going to help!   

"I'd prefer it if you left now"

“I’d prefer it if you left now.”   

The cakes go into the recycling bin

She does so, and Iolo empties the contents of the cake tin into the recycling box.

"Have you seen the wholesaler's card, Izzy?"

Izzy is becoming more frantic as she still cannot find the bracelet, when Mathew comes back in, looking for the wholesaler’s card, 

"Ah – here it is"

then manages to locate it.   

"I've turned the place upside down|"

She shouts, “I’ve turned the place upside down and I can’t find it!   

"It was a gift from one of the other teachers"

“It was a gift from Chaillai, one of the other teachers – she made it especially for me – 

"I should have been more careful!"

“I should have been more careful!”

She insists that he should go back to work and that she will be fine, 

"It's obvious you're not fine, Izzy!"

but it is obvious, even to him, that is not the case, and he wants to know what is going on.   

"I don't want you to think I'm ungrateful, Dyl"

Up in the cafe flat, Kelly is speaking to Dylan on the phone;  “I don’t want you to think I’m ungrateful, Dyl, because I appreciate your support, but ten shares would be enough.   

"Another investor had put in a proposal"

“Another investor has put in a proposal, and it will solve everything really – and it will save you £2,000.”   She continues that she is happy, 

The name of Garry Monk accidentally slips out

then accidentally mentions the name of Garry Monk, 

"Aaargh - what have I said?"

which seems to change Dylan’s mind at a stroke.

"Hang on, now, Dyl – we had an agreement!"

“You what?   Hang on, now, Dyl – we had an agreement,” she says, but the call has already been terminated.   

She rushes from the flat

She is furious, grabs her coat and hurries downstairs.

"Don't start saying I need to eat"

In the Deri, Tyler asks if Iolo is going to eat his lunch;  he says he is not hungry, “And don’t start saying I need to eat,” he warns Tyler, 

"I don't want to be here anyway"

“Because I don’t want to be here anyway.”   Tyler argues that it is better than being in the house, but this is contested by Iolo;  “At least I can shut the door!   You should have heard Gaynor this morning – the twentieth person to tell me to think positive!   And then Anita’s nonsense.”

"People are trying to support you"

“People are being kind, trying to support you,” Tyler reminds him, 

"I'd prefer it of they tried to keep their noses out!"

but Iolo would prefer it if they tried to keep their noses out.   He wants to go, and he is going;  

Iolo walks out of the Deri

with that he walks out of the pub.

"I'd stay to help after school"

Izzy continues her explanation to Mathew;  “After lessons every day, I’d stay to help Chaillai, and then we’d sit on the school steps as it got dark, just talking and laughing.   

"She was raped multiple times by her uncle"

“She was raped multiple times by her uncle.”   

This shocks Mathew 

Mathew is shocked by what he has heard, 

"Nobody stood up for her"

and Izzy continues, “The thing is, nobody in her family, not her mother or father, stood up for her – she was thrown out.   She was so fortunate to find refuge at the school – 

"That's why I wanted to support them"

“and that’s why I decided the last time I was out there that I wanted to support them more financially, seeing that Mam had given me that money.”

Mathew praises her . . .

Mathew praises her for giving a few hundred pounds to the school, but she explains that it was more than that – the whole £10,000.   

. . . but is surprised by how much money

This comes as a considerable surprise to him, but she urges, “Please don’t look like that – it’s important to me.   

"It happened to me as well!"

“It’s important because what Chaillai and the other girls went through, it happened to me as well!”

"In Thailand, was it?"

He is disgusted by the fact that she was raped in Thailand, but she corrects him, 

"No, in Cwmderi, when I was at school"

“No, it happened here – in Cwmderi, while I was at school.   I heard the same story so many times out there – what happened to Chaillai was so similar to what happened to me.   Her uncle was so sly, controlling everyone, the whole family, so Chaillai got the blame and nobody believed her.   

"That's what Macs did to me!"

“Thats what Macs did to me!”

"Macs White, Iolo's brother?"

“Macs?   Macs White, Iolo’s brother?” says Mathew, incredulously, and she confirms that it is true.

"Do you think it's risky to depend on Garry's money?"

In the Deri, Kelly asks Jason, “Do you think it’s risky to depend on Garry’s money?” and he points out that now Dylan has pulled out, 

"You don't have much choice now, Kel"

she does not have much choice.   Then she sees Garry by the bar 

"The investor is happy for you to have 40%"

and informs him, “The investor is happy for you to have 40% of the shares.”

He obviously knows more than Kelly suspected;  

"What did Dylan have to say about that?"

“And what did Dylan have to say about that?” he asks her.   

"Dylan's out of the picture now"

She responds that Dylan is now out of the picture, and she will buy him a drink to celebrate.

"I've changed my mind"

Then he announces, “About the shares – I’ve changed my mind!”   

"You said you wanted to help me and the café"

She reminds him that he said that he wanted to help her and the café, 

"That's not exactly what I said"

but he argues that was not exactly what he said, and then walks away, leaving her crestfallen.

"I think I reopened old wounds"

Back at Y Felin, Anita apologises to Siôn, “I’m so sorry, but I started to talk to Iolo about Meic, just to show that I understand, but I think I opened old wounds.   He began talking about Gwen.”   

"Gwen is always on our minds"

Siôn acknowledges that Gwen is always on their minds.   

"It would have been better if I hadn't said anything"

“It would have been better if I hadn’t said anything,” she confesses.

Siôn assures her that Iolo’s situation is bound to bring back memories – in fact it has made them all look back;  

"We lost Gwen so unexpectedly"

“We lost Gwen so suddenly and unexpectedly, we didn’t have time as a family to organise things or discuss saying goodbye properly.”   She recalls that she did have that time with Meic, and was able to do everything that he wanted.

"But Iolo's situation is so much better"

“But Iolo’s situation is so much better than Gwen’s and Meic’s – they’ve caught the cancer early, and that is so important.   I was just trying to lift his spirits.”   Siôn fully appreciates this, but it is getting Iolo to understand that is the problem.   

"I think it's better to keep my distance"

He thinks that rather than having a word with his son, it is better to keep his distance for now.   

"I'm glad to have you here with me"

However he is very glad that he has Anita there with him.

"Later I realised I was trying to escape"

Izzy continues, “A while after that I went off to see the world – it was only later that I realised I was trying to escape.   I still thought it was my fault.”   

"Macs was the adult here, Izzy"

Mathew makes it very clear to her that Macs was the adult, 

"Things were different then"

and she remembers that they did not call it rape at the time;  things were different then.

"He forced you to sleep with him"

Mathew stresses, “It was rape – he forced you to sleep with him!”   She realises that now, and Chaillai showed her that it was not her fault, but Macs’ fault.   “You’re lucky you had a family to support you,” Mathew tells her, 

"Mam took Macs' side"

but is very surprised to hear that Gaynor took Macs’ side, and they have not discussed it since.

"I had no idea, Izzy"

“Izzy, I knew things were difficult between you, but I had no idea!” Mathew gasps.

The OCD is becoming obvious again

Iolo is rearranging the cups at number 7 when Tyler comes back;  “Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing, but this does help,” he says, 

"The OCD won't kill me, anyway!"

“The OCD won’t kill me anyway!   I’ve got something for you, there in the box – open it.   

"A list of everything you'll need to register the death"

“It’s all there – I found a list of everything you’ll need to register the death.   

"I wanted to make sure everything was in order"

“We all know you don’t like paperwork, and I just wanted to make sure everything was in order.”   

Tyler closes the box again

Tyler is stunned by this, sits down and closes the box again.

"You had agreed before you knew Garry was involved"

Kelly is speaking to Dylan on the phone once more;  “You had agreed before you knew Garry was involved,” 

She does not have any success

and after a pause, squeals, “Priorities?   Yeah, OK, fine!”

"That was another bright idea – NOT!"

Jason is washing his hands, as she groans, “Well, that was another bright idea – NOT!”   

"So he hasn't changed his mind, then?"

Jason realises that Dylan has not changed his mind about the shares, 

"In a turf war between Garry and Dylan"

and she wonders, “How have I ended up in a turf war between Garry and Dylan?”

He explains that they are just like children, 

"I hate it that I'm so desperate!"

and she wails, “I hate it that I’m so desperate!   I’ve lost two investors now!”   

"How about asking Siôn?"

Jason comes up with the idea that she could ask Siôn, as he has plenty of money, and Anita is so sentimental.   “She doesn’t want to lose Caffi Meic, does she?” he suggests.   

"He's got too much on his plate with Iolo"

Kelly maintains that he has too much on his plate with Iolo, but Jason says that it is worth a try;  

"One of the cornerstones of the community"

“I’m sure he’d support one of the cornerstones of the community.”   

"Anita would be so smug if that happened!"

Kelly imagines that Anita would be so smug if that happened, so rules out the idea

"I'm sorry I can't be any more help, Kel"

Jason is sorry that he cannot be of any more help, 

"You are – and we're a team, Jase!"

but she assures him that he is, and that they are a team;  “Tomorrow’s another day,” she says, 

"Shall I put the kettle on?"

and he will make a cup of tea.

"You haven't said a lot since you came home"

“You haven’t said a lot since you came home,” Iolo tells Tyler, 

"There's no point getting ahead of ourselves"

but he replies that he does not see the point in getting ahead of themselves.   

"You're young and fit, Iol"

He argues that Iolo is young, and fit. 

"You're the only one I can trust"

“Ty, you’re the only one I can trust if something happens to me,” Iolo emphasises, “So don’t let me down – we need to discuss this.   

"I've organised an appointment with the undertaker"

“I’ve organised an appointment with the undertaker – to discuss the funeral sensibly, just in case.”

This is too much for Tyler;  “Sorry, I can’t do this!” he exclaims, 

"You're needed if the worst happens"

but Iolo pleads that he is needed if the worst happens.   

"You've just given up!"

“What about me and Greta?” Tyler demands, “You’ve given up!”

“No, I haven’t done that – I’m just trying to do the right thing,” Iolo insists, “When Mam died, we didn’t have enough time to discuss it properly.”   It still appears to Tyler that he has given up already, and the stresses that he is not going to die.

"I was hoping you would come with me"

Iolo puts on his jacket, and is now going for his appointment with the undertaker;  he was hoping that Tyler would go with him, but is obviously not ready.

"Your mother must know what he did was wrong"

“Your mother must know that what he did was wrong,” Mathew tells Izzy, 

"She allowed it to be brushed under the carpet"

but is informed she allowed it to be brushed under the carpet;  

"He should have lost his job at least"

“He should have lost his job at least!”

"It was my fault for 'playing with fire'!"

Gaynor did not see it that way, but rather said it was Izzy’s fault for ‘playing with fire’. 

"You should talk to your mother about this"

Mathew recommends that she needs to talk to her mother, but is told that he has not heard everything – there is more.   

"Before she married Hywel, Mam slept with Macs

“A few years later, before Mam married Hywel, she slept with Macs!”   

"Slept with the guy who raped you?"

Mathew is having difficulty getting his head around this;  “Your mother slept with the guy who raped you?” and she confirms that is indeed what happened.   He is about to go and confront Gaynor, arguing, “Someone need to tell her what she’s done to you!   She turned her back on her own daughter.”

"No. Mathew – it's too late now!"

Izzy tries to dissuade him, maintaining that it is too late now, 

"What your mother did was wrong!"

but he is insistent that what happened to her is wrong, and what her mother did was wrong.   

Izzy knows that all of it is wrong, and Mathew is eager that she should talk to her mother, to make her realise how much pain she has caused her daughter.   

"She won't understand – she doesn't want to"

“She won’t understand – she doesn’t want to understand!   It’s enough for me that you’ve listened – I don’t need more than that.   Please, just leave things alone.”
