This how you're spending your day?"

Mathew comes back from work and finds Izzy still in her pyjamas;  “This is how you’re spending your day, is it?” he asks, 

"You said you weren't coming back for lunch"

and she moans that he said he was not coming back for lunch.   “I’m not,” he explains, and finds what he was looking for;  

"Are you sure you don't want the job?"

“And I wanted to make sure that you don’t want the job, doing APD’s accounts.”

"I can find my own job"

She insists that she can find her own job, (although she does not seem to be doing much looking) but he just wanted to check before they advertise the job.   “Just so you know, I haven’t been sitting here all day!” she growls, and he leaves the flat.

She hears her mother's voice

On his way out, he meets Gaynor, and Izzy does not look pleased to hear her voice;  

"Are you ill?"

“Mathew said you were home – are you ill?   I’ve brought you this – an application form for the receptionist job,” says Gaynor, 

Izzy does not give her a welcome

and Izzy is displeased.   “I’ve filled it in for you,” her mother adds, and hopes that it will be new start for her.

“You didn’t want me around the place a few weeks ago!” Izzy snaps, 

"We've both been through a difficult period"

and her mother maintains that they have both been through a difficult and complicated period, 

"About this job, Izzy . . ."

then turns to the details of the job.   “I’ve told you – I don’t want it,” Izzy snarls, but Gaynor replies that it is perfect for her.

"Change out of your pyjamas and post it"

“Please, Izzy – all you have to do is change out of your pyjamas and post it,” instructs her mother, and leaves the flat.   

Izzy has no intention of doing so

Izzy does not look as if she has any intention of complying with this.

"It's a bit sensitive – Brynmor"

In the course of his round, Mark calls at Llwyncelyn and would like a quick word with Hywel;  “It’s a bit sensitive, to be honest,” he begins, “Brynmor.”   

"I heard that he and Kath are good friends"

Hywel had heard that he and Kath are good friends these days;  “But she hardly knows him,” Mark continues, 

"You know him, don't you?"

“You do, don’t you?   From what I understand, he and your father were good friends.”

"I don't know much about him"

Hywel agrees, but does not know much about him;  “I can remember him coming to a few parties when I was a child.” 

Mark is more interested in knowing if he has a history;  

"Backhanders, dodgy deals?"

“You know – backhanders, dodgy dealings?”   Hywel points out that it is not half as dodgy as Mark’s past, and on the whole people think highly of him.   

"He was always turning up with a different woman"

“He helped me a lot when I became a councillor – when I was younger I thought he was cad, always turning up with a different woman!”

"The pig!"

Mark describes him as a pig, and Hywel realises that he is not happy about the relationship.   “Does anyone else around here know him?” Mark enquires,  

"Anita interviewed him a while back"

and Hywel recalls that Anita interviewed him a while back.   “Right – I might get more sense out of her,” says Mark.

Those apples will not be much good now

As Garry comes out of the shop, he drops some of his purchases, 

Dylan watches with amusement

and Dylan, in the doorway of the café, laughs.   

"Why do you want lunch in the café?"

Tesni comes along the road, talking rather loudly on her phone to her brother;  “Why do you want lunch in the café?” she asks, 

"She washes my plate before I have finished"

and he replies that he does not like how his mother stares at him when he is eating, and asking if everything is OK – and washes his plate before he has finished.

"At least, she's keeping busy"

“At least, she’s keeping busy,” Tesni points out, and he complains that she ironed his pants yesterday.   

"It's nice to hear you laughing, Tesni"

Anita comes out of the café, commenting that it is nice to hear Tesni laughing;  “You’ve been through such a lot this year, haven’t you?”

Guto is eavesdropping on the converation

From his end of the phone, Guto is listening to this, 

"Now Gerwyn and Ffion!"

as Anita continues, “The affair, Gerwyn leaving – and now Ffion and him!”   

"They're not together, Anita!"

As he comes through the alley, Guto shouts to them that his father and Ffion are not together, but are just friends.   

"Someone saw him coming and going from the flat!"

Anita is undeterred, but goes on, “Someone said they’d seen Gerwyn coming and going from the flat – 

"Oh yeah?   Pull the other one!"

“but you know me, I don’t take much notice of anyone!”

"Now you can tell everyone they are just friends!"

Tesni suggests that now she can tell everyone that they are just friends, and then thinks it might be a good idea to warn their mother.

"This isn't like her at all!"

Dani is on the phone, apologising, “This isn’t like her at all!   Can’t you tell me . . ?   OK, I understand – I’ll see you later.”   

"Do you want me to pick up Seren?"

Tyler comes in, asking if she wants him to pick up Seren from the nursery, as he is going to pick up Greta.

"Seren's bitten someone"

“No, I’d better do it – they were on the phone just now – Seren’s bitten someone, but they won’t say who.   

"Greta has been bitten"

Tyler has just had a similar call, saying that Greta has been bitten.   “Don’t get me wrong – I’ll make sure she says sorry, 

"These things are bound to happen, Tyler"

“but these things are bound to happen,” she says.

"Greta is going through a difficult time"

Tyler disagrees, thinking that this does not have to happen;  “Greta is going through a difficult time – she goes to nursery for some fun.”   Dani argues that they are kids, and they fall out, telling him to stop all this drama.   

Cassie comes in and has her say

“There’s a difference between falling out and biting!” Tyler exclaims, just as Cassie comes into the room.

“Ems went through a similar phase, but scratching,” she recalls, “I had to cut her nails short.”   

"Are you saying I should cut her teeth?"

Dani furiously demands whether she should cut Seren’s teeth, and wonders what Cassie wants.   She has brought up a black sack, 

"Leave it outside the door next time!"

and is told to leave it outside the door next time.

An inflatable unicorn puzzles Dani

Inside the sack, Dani finds a large inflatable unicorn, which she finds somewhat puzzling.

Izzy has managed to get dressed

Izzy has now got dressed and looks at the envelope on the worktop;  

She looks at the application from . . .

she takes out the application from 

. . . and decides what she is going to do

and gives the matter some serious thought.

"There's something in the water at your house, Mark"

Mark’s post round has taken him to Y Felin, where Anita remarks, “There’s something in the water at your house – perhaps you should try drinking it.   Kath has found Brynmor, Gerwyn and Ffion,” 

"Gerwyn is just friends with Ffion"

but Mark points out that Gerwyn is simply friends with Ffion.

"You know Brynmor, don't you?"

“I wanted a word about Brynmor – you know him, don’t you?” he asks, 

"I interviewed him a few years ago"

and she says that she interviewed him a few years ago, but cannot tell Mark anything else.   

He accuses her of acting oddly, and she concedes that she had an awkward moment with him;  “He started to show too much interest – you know – in a professional environment.   

"He touched my leg"

“He touched my leg.”   

"I knew there was something dodgy about him!"

Mark knew there was something dodgy about him, but she insists, “I’ve met a lot of creepy men in my time, and I don’t think Brynmor is one of them.   

"He knew that 'no' meant 'no'"

“He pushed his luck, but he knew that ‘no’ meant ‘no’.”

She then suggests, “Instead of concentrating on your mother’s love life, you should concentrate on your own.”   

"I don't need a woman"

He is quite adamant that he does not need a woman, and leaves the house.

Jaclyn finds the rumour amusing

Jaclyn laughs when she is told of the rumour about Gerwyn and Ffion, and Tesni stresses that it is not true, but wanted her mother to be aware of it in case she hears about it.

"Well, there's going to be gossip in the village"

Jaclyn predicts, “Well, there’s going to be gossip in the village, but I’m not going to do anything about it – it’s not true, anyway.   It’s going to be a strange time for us, but we’ll get through it.   

"Guto, I've sorted out your room"

“Guto, I’ve sorted out your room and put clean clothes on the bed.”

Izzy arrives at Llwyncelyn 

Izzy arrives at Llwyncelyn, and her mother asks if she would like a cup of tea, then sees she has not posted that letter.   

"I'm not here to talk about the job"

“As I said, thanks but no thanks,” Izzy tells her, “I’m not here to talk about the job.   

"I want us to have a close relationship"

“I want us to have a close relationship – an honest one – like the one we had when I was growing up.”

Gaynor would welcome that, too, and thinks the world of her daughter;  

"But sometimes your attitude . . ."

“But sometimes your attitude . . .”   

Izzy makes it very clear that neither is it about her attitude;  

"Something we've brushed under the carpet – Macs!"

“There’s something we’ve brushed under the carpet for years – Macs.   I’m here to talk about Macs.”   Gaynor does not say anything.

"I'm telling you, there's something about him!"

As Mark sits in front of the laptop, he assures Gerwyn, “I’m telling you, there’s something about him!” but Gerwyn cannot see it.   

"You didn't see what Jaclyn was doing under your nose, either!"

“You didn’t see what Jaclyn was doing under your nose either!” Mark reminds him, and he says that he is going to see Ffion.

"You do know that people are talking about you?"

“You do know that people are talking about you?” Mark asks, “That you’re doing more than watching quiz programmes – you’re not, are you?”

"Won't do my street cred any harm, will it?"

Gerwyn replies, “If people want to think that, it won’t do my street cred any harm, will it?”

"What Macs did to me was unforgivable"

Izzy tells her mother, “What Macs did to me was unforgivable – it’s taken me years to acknowledge and accept what happened.   He raped me!”   

Gaynor makes no comment

Gaynor remains silent as her daughter goes on, “I was a child, trying to be an adult – I needed you, Mam – I needed you to hold me and tell me everything was going to be all right.   

"We have to talk about this, Mam"

“But you took his side – I don’t want to argue, but if we are going to move forward, we have to talk about this.   Things haven’t been right between us since it happened.”

At last Gaynor speaks, but not about their problem;  

"Instead of opening old wounds"

“If you didn’t want this job, you should have just said, instead of opening old wounds.”   

She gets up and walks away

She gets up and walks away.

The answer is on the tip of Gerwyn's tongue

At Cysgod y Glyn, they are watching another quiz, and becoming quite animated about it;  Ffion wonders why Gerwyn is sweating so much, and he tells her that he is stressed.   

"Well, take off your jumper"

She advises him to take off his jumper if he is hot, and as he is in the process of doing so, 

Guto sees his father, partially dressed

Guto walks in and enquires what is going on.

"He sweats when he is stressed"

Gerwyn maintains that Ffion has been cheating, but Guto still asks, “Why are you half-naked?”   Ffion answers that he sweats when he is stressed, 

"My general knowledge is better than yours!"

but Gerwyn is insistent that his general knowledge is better than hers.

"Why are you so obsessed with these quizzes?"

Guto demands why they are so obsessed with these quizzes;  

"He realised he hasn't got a hope against me!"

“Your Dad has realised he hasn’t got a hope against me!” Ffion boasts, 

"Right, then – Trivial Pursuit!"

so Gerwyn  challenges her to a game of Trivial Pursuit and instructs his son that he is to be the referee.   

Sometimes Guto despairs of his father

Guto looks perplexed.

"Do you think I'm trying to get out of a job?"

At Llwyncelyn, Izzy asks, “Do you honestly think I’d talk about Macs just to get out of applying for a job?”   

"I'm trying to have a better relationship with you"

Gaynor wants to know what else she is trying to do.   “Have a better relationship with you – move on – but before that, I need you to acknowledge what happened,” Izzy pleads.

"What's the point of going over old ground?"

“It happened years ago – what’s the point of going over old ground?” her mother groans.   

“Have you ever thought that you should apologise?” wonders Izzy, 

"Oh, grow up, Izzy!"

but is told to grow up.

"Your history of sleeping with teachers"

“You think you’re so innocent – I like the fact you’ve forgotten your history of sleeping with teachers – my staff!” Gaynor roars, but Izzy points out that Macs was the teacher, and he broke the rules, but she was the one who got punished.

"What's going on?"

Hywel walks in as they continue their argument, and wants to know what is going on;  “Izzy talking about the past.   What are you trying to prove?” Gaynor shouts.   

"And then you slept with the man who raped me!"

Her daughter points out that she was forced to leave, while Macs kept his job, his life;  “And on top of that, you slept with him!   The man who raped your daughter!”

The angry reply to this is, “We all make mistakes, but some of us admit to them, instead of blaming everyone else!”

"Is this the person you want to raise Esther?"

Izzy turns to Hywel, and asks him, “Is this the person you want to raise Esther?   A mother who allows teachers to take advantage?   

"Then again, your track record isn't much better!"

“Then again, your track record isn’t much better!”

"This is your mess – sort it out with him!"

Gaynor screams, “This is your mess – it’s nothing to do with me!   If you really want to sort this out, get in touch with him!”   Izzy storms out of the house, while Hywel and Gaynor look at each other.

"Are you all right, Gaynor?"

“Are you all right?’ he asks, and, very eager to change the subject, 

"Would you like chilli for dinner?"

she enquires if he would like chilli for dinner;  she thinks that they have got enough rice.

"I'm sure you've done worse things, Garry"

In the Deri flat, Dani is informing Garry that Seren only bit Greta;  “I’m sure you’ve done worse things, Garry!   Of course I’ve talked to her, and she promised not to do it again.”

"She needs to learn her lesson"

He wants to know what is her punishment;  “She needs to learn her lesson.”   Dani blames Garry for spoiling her all the time, otherwise she might behave better, and demands what the unicorn balloon is all about.

"I wouldn't buy anything so tacky!"

He has no idea, and points out it is nothing to do with him;  “I wouldn’t buy anything so tacky!   If we’re going to co-parent these children, we need to find a system when things go wrong.”   

"Phone you every time she refuses to eat?"

“What do you want me to do?   Phone you every time she refuses to eat, or answers me back?   What do you want, Garry?”   

"No treats or iPad for a week"

He suggests no treats or iPad for a week.   “Oh, great!   

"Who will have to deal with the meltdowns?   Me!'

“And who will have to deal with the meltdowns?   Oh, yes, me!” she rages.

Mark is again in the laptop

Mark is again poring over the laptop when Brynmor comes into the house, speaking to someone on the phone;  

"Don't phone me again, understand?"

“I told you not to contact me again!    How did you get this number?   No, that’s your problem – don’t phone me again, understand?”

"Someone trying to sell something"

Then he realises that Mark is listening, and explains away the call as someone trying to sell something;  

"Speaking to them in Welsh usually gets rid of them"

“Speaking to them in Welsh usually gets rid of them.”   

Mark is immediately suspicious

Mark does not believe a word of this, and will put the kettle on.

They seem to have reached a consensus

“So we’re agreed, then – if something like this happens again, we deal with it together,” says Garry, and Dani reluctantly agrees.   “We need to keep an eye on things – 

"I don't remember Gwern doing anything like this"

“I don’t remember Gwern doing anything like this,” he adds, and then Dylan walks in.

"Oh, you got the ballon then . . ."

“Oh, you got the balloon then,” he remarks, “Sorry, Garry, if I knew you were here, I would have got you one, too!   

". . . Seren asked for a unicorn last week"

“Seren asked for a unicorn last week.”

Garry decides that she is not having it,  

"She bit reta at nursery today"

and Dani explains that she bit Greta at nursery today;  “It makes no sense to reward her!” Garry stresses, and, surprisingly, 

"Violence should not be rewarded"

Dylan agrees with him that violence should not be rewarded, but they must all learn to share and compromise in the end.

He continues, “Garry can take it with him – I’ve got a helium tank and plenty of balloons.   

"Uncle Dyl will make sure Seren doesn't miss out"

“Uncle Dyl will make sure that Seren doesn’t miss out.”  After that, Garry changes his mind, saying that Seren can have it – tomorrow.

Dylan comments that the food smells lovely, 

"Why don't you stay for dinner?"

and is invited by Dani to stay for the meal, which he accepts with alacrity, 

Garry glares at Dylan

and Garry leaves the flat.

"Why aren't I good enough for her, Math?"

Back at the shop flat, Izzy demands, “Why aren’t I good enough for her, Math?” but he emphasises this is not about her, 

"She can't face up to what she has done"

but shows that Gaynor cannot face up to what she has done.   “Neither can I until she acknowledges what happened,” Izzy says.

“I know better than anyone how much it hurts when a parent lets you down,” he assures her, “I wish you had told me that you were going, so I could have come with you.”   

"It was something I needed to do alone"

She insists that this is something she needed to do alone, and she is glad that she did.

"I've put your name down for the job at APD"

He adds, “I’ve got something else to confess – please don’t be angry.   I’ve put your name down for the job at APD – because Izzy, you’d be brill!   And it’s also an excuse to see that beautiful face more often!”

"You're just worried I won't pay my share of the rent!"

She concludes that he is just worried that she will not pay her share of the rent, and he agrees that has to be taken into account as well.   

"What are you going to do about your mother?"

“What are you going to do about your mother?” he asks, and she replies that there is nothing she can do.

"I don't think I can see her as my mother any more!"

“If she is not willing to apologise, I don’t think I can see her as my mother any more!”
