Obviously, Guto has not kicked the habit

In the alley Guto is rolling himself another ‘spliff’, when he hears a door open

He hides round the corner

and quickly hides round the corner;  Mathew comes out of the shop flat and sees Garry, who is emerging from the café with a coffee.

"Did you get that as a freebie?"

“Did you get that as a freebie for buying shares?” he asks.

"This place is too risky"

“No, I paid,” is the answer, “Anyway, I don’t know if I want to invest – the place is a bit risky.”   Mathew had thought about it but has enough on his plate as it is;  he thinks that perhaps it is not a risk, and is sure that Dylan knows what he is doing.

"Dylan invested in the place"

“He’s invested in the place, so perhaps he likes taking risks,” he adds, as he continues towards APD.

"Oh, he did, did he?"

This causes Garry to think, but then he looks across the road

Dani is handling some boxes

to where Dani is manhandling large boxes into the salon.

"Dani, let me do that!"

“Dani, let me do that!” he protests,

"I'm pregnant, not an invalid, Garry"

but she replies that Dylan and Aled will be there shortly;  she reproachfully reminds him that she is pregnant, not an invalid, so he walks away.

"Tes can take them over to him later"

At number 10, Jaclyn looks through the post, which is all for Gerwyn;  “Tes can take them over to him later,” she mutters,

"I'll take them, if you like"

and Aled, who has just come downstairs, volunteers to take them after work.   “Are things all right with her?” Jaclyn asks him, “It’s such a shame – she and her father used to be so close.”

"Gerwyn could redirect his post"

Aled suggests that Gerwyn could redirect his post,

"He's not on the the side of the world"

but she says there is no need, as he is not on the other side of the world, and he leaves for work.

The letters are tossed on to the table

She tosses the letters down on the table.

"Why did you give that job to Carl James?"

In APD, Mathew has a visitor;  Iolo demands, “Why did you give the Llew Du job to Carl James?   I thought APD was giving me first refusal – have I offended you?”

"He offered a competitive price"

Mathew says that Carl offered a competitive price, but Iolo reminds him, “He’s a cowboy!   I’m much more experienced –

"I''m thorough, dependable – and available"

“I’m thorough, dependable – and available!”

"You're ill – I don't want to put pressure on you"

“You’re ill,” Mathew explains, “Sorry, Iolo, but I don’t want to put pressure on you – APD has loads of work for you when you get better.”

"How do you know?"

Iolo snarls, “Thanks, Mathew – it’s nice to know who your friends are when you need them!   How do you know?”

"You'll get a better price after a service"

At Cysgod y Glyn, Gerwyn informs Ffion that the car drives well but needs a service – she will get a better price for it then.   She does not want to take up any more of his time and groans,

"We're almost like old friends"

“It’s silly really, but I’m going to miss that car – we’re almost like old friends.”   Gerwyn says that a lot of people are like that, keeping cars longer than they need to, as it is part of their lives.

"Come over for dinner tonight"

“And life can change, just like that,” she observes, “Come over for dinner tonight, so that I can say thanks.”

"Mark's cooking an eight-course Indian"

He tells her that will be rather awkward, pointing out that Mark is cooking him an eight-course Indian with all the trimmings, then admits they are actually just going for a pint.

"Guto will be here, working on his Spanish"

“Can you come before that?” she enquires, “Guto will be here, working on his Spanish.”

"Yes, that would be great"

This makes up Gerwyn’s mind and he says that he will come;

"I'm not promising eight courses, mind"

“Ffion is not promising eight courses, though, and they agree on seven o’clock.

"About the café – I want to help"

Garry comes up to the café flat for a word with Kelly;  “I want to talk to you about the café – I want to help.”

"I don't think you're Barista material, Garry"

This makes her smile, and she does not think that he is Barista material.

As she puts on her pink and orange coat, he goes on, “You’re selling shares, aren’t you?

"But there are conditions . . ."

“I am interested – but there are conditions.”   She explains that he buys shares and gets a few perks – one free copy out of ten.

“The conditions are – I’m willing to buy 40 shares

". . . nobody else can buy more than ten"

“on the condition that nobody else can buy more than ten,” he stipulates, and as she looks suspiciously at him, he adds,

"Don't worry, you'll still be in charge"

“Don’t worry, you’ll still be in charge – I shall just be a person to turn to should you have any problems.”

"That's a lot to consider"

She thinks that it is a lot to consider and he leaves her to consider his offer.

"Just checking that you and I are all right, Kath"

Cassie goes round to Maes-y-Deri in order to see whether she and Kath are still all right;

"Oh – Cassie!"

the door suddenly opens and Brynmor comes in, clad in a dressing gown.   Cassie thinks that she ought to leave, but he urges her to stay, as he is going for a shower.

"You've helped to make an old man very happy!"

Brynmor continues, “While you’re here, I’d like to thank you for helping us to get together – you’ve helped to make an old man very happy.”   Kath is motioning to him to go, and he does so.

Cassie appears to be lost for words

Cassie is incredulous.

"I've had some good news about the café . . . "

Kelly has gone to number 7, where she says that she has had some good news about the café;

". . . but I've come to see you"

“Anyway, I’m not here to talk about me – I’ve come to see you.”   Iolo demands what she wants,

"Why didn't you tell me, Iol?"

and she hesitantly asks, “Do I need a reason to see my best friend?   OK . . . erm, why didn’t you tell me?”

"Anita's opened her big mouth!"

“About the cancer – is that what you’re trying to say?” sighs Iolo, “Anita’s opened her big mouth!”   She admits that it was in fact Jason, and he growls, “So I’ve been gossiped about all morning in APD – who else knows?”   Kelly stresses that no-one is gossiping, but they are just concerned.

He does not want people talking about him,

"You should be more positive"

and she advises, “I think it would be a good idea for you to be more positive.”

"I don't need people to tell me how I should feel"

He responds that he does not need people to tell him how to feel, either.   She realises, “I’m not making a very good job of this, am I?”

He does not want to talk about it at the moment so she will leave,

"If you need me, I'm always here for you, OK?"

but not before reminding him, “I just want you to know, if you need me, I’m always here for you, OK?”

Iolo has had a date for his operation

Then he looks at a letter which has arrived from the NHS, marked ‘private and confidential’.

The coat hooks are symbolic of the empty house

Jaclyn comes into number 10 and sadly looks up at the empty coathooks by the door;

There is an envelope on the table . . .

she takes off her coat and notices an envelope on the table,

. . . containing Gerwyn's keys . . .

containing the house keys.

. . . which Jaclyn finds upsetting

This upsets her.

"I can't remember the last time I had breakfast in bed"

“I can’t remember the last time I had breakfast in bed,” says Kath, “He says I deserve it – and I tell you, Cassie, he’s not so formal these days.

"I just hope that Mark and Gerwyn didn't hear anything"

“I just hope that Mark and Gerwyn didn’t hear anything.”   Cassie is surprised to hear that Gerwyn is still there,

"Her and Garry Monk acting like teenagers!"

but Kath demands, “What does Jaclyn expect?   Her and Garry Monk acting like bloomin’ teenagers!”

"Unlike you and Brynmor!"

“Unlike you and Brynmor!” comments Cassie,

"What we have is special"

and is told that what he and Kath have is special.

Garry brings back Seren's bag

Dani is preparing to go out when Garry arrives at the Deri flat, bringing a rucksack which Seren left in the car.   “I haven’t got time to talk – I’m on my way out,” she tells him, “I’ve given myself the afternoon off, Garry.”

"Where are you dumping the children?"

She announces that she is having lunch with Dylan, and Garry immediately asks, “What about the children?   Where are you dumping them?”

"You're a fine one to talk, Garry!"

She finds this very amusing, considering how he behaved, and explains that childcare has been sorted.

"That Dylan really thinks he's special, doesn't he?"

“That Dylan really thinks he’s special, doesn’t he?” Garry sneers, “Can’t you see what he’s doing?”   Dani reiterates that he is simply taking her out to lunch, and that is not illegal.   “I heard he is buying shares in the café, too – the upstart!” he adds.

"You're so jealous, aren't you?"

She smiles as she remarks that he is so jealous,  he demands, “Jealous of him?   Scrabbling to buy shares in a little countryside café?   What kind of pathetic businessman does that?”

"And he's buying the salon flat as well"

Dani casually comments that he is buying the salon flat from her as well, and has already paid the deposit, which is apparently news to Garry, who protests that they are still married.

“It will get sorted after the divorce,” she says, “Now, was there anything else?”

"Tell him he'll never get the upper hand over me!"

Garry tells her to give Dylan a message;  “Tell him he’ll never get the upper hand over me – understand?”   Dani asks whether she should tell him before or after the pudding, and Garry does not care, adding, “Just watch he doesn’t choke!”

Dani winks at him

Dani winks at him, and he winks back

"That was the best thing Gerwyn could do"

In the Deri, Cassie mentions to Mark that Gerwyn has moved in properly with them;  he agrees that it is the best thing Gerwyn can do, and asks if Cassie has seen his mother lately.

"Mam's a lot easier to live with now"

“I’ll tell you one thing, she’s a lot easier to live with since I found her a friend!” he says, “A bit of company with Brynmor has made a huge difference – but he is a bit boring.”

"She was far from bored this morning"

Cassie explains that she was far from being bored this morning, and Mark goes on, “I knew that was what she needed – a bit of company, someone to watch films with her, and do jigsaws and stuff.”

"They're at it, like rabbits!"

Cassie maintains that they do more than jigsaws together;  “They’re at it, like rabbits!” she rather indelicately puts it.

"Mam would never do that!"

He replies that his mother would never do such thing,

"Oh yes, she would!"

but is informed, “Oh yes, she would!”   He hurries from the Deri,

"Mark – your drink!"

leaving most of his drink behind.

"Did you have to open your mouth to Mathew?"

Then Iolo comes in, finds his father there, and angrily demands, “Did you have to?   Open your mouth to Mathew?   Everyone in the village has been talking about me and the cancer – I’ve lost a big job because Mathew thinks I’m too ill to do it!”

"You can't keep something like this secret"

His father advises that he cannot keep something like this secret, and he has to be careful when it comes to work.   “Do you have to control everything?” rages Iolo,

"Your father is only looking after you"

and Anita joins them, insisting that his father is looking after him.

"I decide what to say, and to whom"

“I understand that – but I decide what to say and to whom in my own time – I’ve had a date for the surgery – in two weeks’ time.

"You can share that news with the rest of the village, too"

“You can share that news with the rest of the village, too!”

Iolo storms out of the pub

And thus saying, he marches out.

Gerwyn helps with the washing-up

Gerwyn is helping with the washing-up and tells Ffion to go and settle Arwen;  “We can sort out the car tomorrow – and thank you.”

"It's nice to spend some time with my son"

He remarks to Guto, “She’s a good cook, and it’s nice to spend some time with my son, too.”

"Have you cleared your stuff from the house yet?"

Guto wonders if he has cleared all his stuff from the house yet, and Gerwyn apologises,

"I should have tried harder, shouldn't I?"

maintaining that he should have tried harder.

"I would have done exactly the same, Dad"

“Dad, I would have done exactly the same thing – Tes and I are fine – you need to live your life,” Guto says,

"I still think the world of your mother"

but his father still thinks the world of Jaclyn.

"There's been too much pain"

“There’s been too much pain – anyone can see that,” Guto adds,

"It's important that you and Tes are around"

and is assured that it is important to both of them that he and Tesni are around.  Guto is adamant that he is not going anywhere.

Ffion comes back into the room, and Gerwyn says he will leave, thanking her for a lovely evening;  she warns him, “You’d better go, or Mark Jones will send a posse out looking for you!”

"Thanks, Ffi"

When he is gone, Guto expresses his thanks to Ffion,

"It was about time you had a chance to talk"

who says that it is about time the two of them had a chance to talk properly.

"Cream or icecream?"

“Right, pudding – apple tart with cream or icecream?”

"Both?"

Guto chooses both.

"Did you say this was Tenby?"

Brynmor is looking at Kaths’ photo albums;  “Did you say this was Tenby?” he asks, and she remembers that was a bank holiday, a very special day, everyone together for a change.

Kath reels off all the names

“Stacey, Mark, Liam, Vicky, Ricky, Little Nicky!” she recites.   Brynmor says that is what he calls a close family but she points out it has not been all plain sailing.

"I was always sad when I was a child"

He comments that they look very happy;  “I was always sad when I was a child because I didn’t have any siblings –

"I've always been quite lonely"

“I’ve always been quite lonely, if I’m honest.”

"I've always had a houseful"

Wherever Kath went, there was always a houseful.

“One of the reasons I moved to Brynawelon was to have some company, but all most of them do is sleep!” he complains,

"You're always welcome for some Jones company"

and Kath assures him that he is always welcome for some Jones company any time he likes.

This is overheard by Mark

Mark is loitering at the bottom of the stairs and listening to this conversation, as Brynmor describes Kath as, “Special company!” and will now cook them some dinner.

"Are you and him . . . you know?"

Mark comes in and whispers to his mother, “Are you and him . . . you know?”

"Don't be so silly – Brynmor's making dinner"

She tells him not to be so silly, pointing out that Brynmor is making dinner,

"Coq au Vin"

Coq au Vin to be precise, so they can get to know each other better.   Rather embarrassed, Mark heads to the Deri.

Jaclyn has prepared a 'family meal . . .

When Guto gets home he finds that his mother has prepared a ‘family meal’;  “It will be nice for us all to sit down together for once,” she tells him.

. . . unfortunately the family will not be there

He explains that Aled and Tes have gone to Llanelli to see Aled’s friend, and he has already eaten with Ffion.

"Your father was right – you are together"

“So your father was right, then – you’re together,” she concludes,

"There's nothing going on between me and Ffion"

but he stresses that there is nothing going on between him and Ffion, and he is sorry about all this.

"You go and listen to your headphones"

She advises him to go upstairs and listen to his headphones,

She is left all alone

then sits down, despairingly alone at the table.

"Want a top-up, Jase?"

Kelly invites Jason to top up his glass;  “Good grief – I know you’re celebrating, but give me a chance!” he replies,

"You were right about the shares"

“Congratulations – you were right about the shares – they’re a good idea!”

"I couldn't believe it when Garry said '40 shares'!"

She gasps, “I couldn’t believe it when Garry said ‘40 shares’ – I tried to hide it, but my jaw was down by my shoes!   Jason maintains it is nothing less than she deserves;  it is not ideal, but it is better than nothing.

"Garry 40, Dylan 10"

“Yeah, Garry 40, Dylan 10!” she confirms,

"I thought it was 20"

and Jason thought it was 20.   “Yeah, well – that was one of Garry’s conditions –

"I can pay off my debts, Jase"

“Dylan will be fine about it,” she tells him, “50 shares, Jase – I can pay off my debts and be well and truly out of trouble.”

"To the café!"

They drink a toast, ‘to the café’, and he is now ready for a top-up.
