"It's terrible what happened to Gaynor"

 As they are both in the café, Sioned remarks to Non, “It’s terrible what happened to Gaynor, isn’t it?”

Non's mind seems to be elsewhere

and Non agrees that it is awful, as she stares at her cup of coffee.   “I thought she and Angharad were friends – imagine a friend deceiving you like that!” Sioned goes on, and Non looks guilty.

"DJ's soppy, sometimes!"

“DJ’s so soppy sometimes,” she says looking at her phone.

DJ comes in and she demands, “What’s all this ‘Are you OK?   I’m thinking about you’?   I’ve only just left the house.”

"I thought you were going to Cross Hands"

He was under the impression that she was going to Cross Hands, but she says her plans have changed, and they might as well have a drink now that he is here.

Non looks disapprovingly at DJ

Non looks very disapprovingly at him.

"Do you want anything to eat, Gaynor?"

At Llwyncelyn, Gaynor picks up the post and Hywel asks if she wants anything to eat;

She is not going into school today

she is not hungry, and does not intend to go into school today.

"I was questioned by the police over the weekend"

“I was questioned by the police over the weekend and I just need some time to sort myself out,” she tells him.

"Sorry I didn't believe you about Angharad"

He rather awkwardly apologises for not believing her about Angharad;

She simply glowers at him

Gaynor does not answer, which makes him feel more uncomfortable.

Gerwyn sits at the foot of the fire escape . . .

Gerwyn is sitting disconsolately at the foot of the fire escape, waiting for the garage to open;

. . . then Garry opens the garage

at last the roller shutter is raised and he goes to face Garry,

He casually remarks that he is not now closing

who announces, “I’m not closing any more!”   This comes as a great surprise to Gerwyn, who enquires since when has he changed his mind;  Garry adds, “Since I told you just now – so if you want your job back . . .”

"What brought about this U-turn?"

Gerwyn wants to know what is responsible for this U-turn,

"Do you want the job or not?"

but is simply asked, “Do you want the job or not?   Yes or no will do.”   Gerwyn supposes that he will accept the job until he finds something better.

"When you want a reference, let me know"

“Well, when you want a reference, let me know,” Garry says.

"Thanks for your help"

Gaynor is on the phone, thanking someone for their help;  she reports to Hywel that Ffion will be covering for her at school,

"I was checking with the hospital how Angharad was"

but she has been on the phone to the hospital to see how Angharad was.   Hywel does not know why she is worried about Angharad;

"She wouldn't care about you if you were in that bed!"

“She wouldn’t care about you if you were lying in that bed!”

"I just feel so guilty"

Gaynor explains that she just feels so guilty, but it is pointed out that she was not responsible for Angharad’s fall;

"You're a good person, Gaynor"

“It was simply an accident – you’re a good person, Gaynor, so don’t feel guilty about it.   What you have to do is to forget about Angharad – you need to look forward now.   You’ve got your life back.”

Hywel says that he has to go to CwmFM, but will not be long;

Gaynor is burdened with guilt

Gaynor is still racked with guilt.

"We haven't had a pint for a while, DJ"

In the Deri, Rhys has just bought a bottle when DJ comes in with the vegetable delivery;  “We haven’t had a pint for a while,” says Rhys, “Luned’s moving to Cardiff today – fancy a catch-up tonight?”

DJ has a lot on his mind . . .

DJ looks rather preoccupied, and when his phone sounds, he puts the vegetable box on the bar.

. . . and one of his problems follows him in

Non follows him in;  she has realised that the text earlier was supposed to have been for her.

"Sioned doesn't deserve this!"

“I’m a terrible person,” he confesses, “Sioned doesn’t deserve this!”

"Come to Maes-y-Deri with me"

She invites him to come to Maes-y-Deri with her, because she does not like seeing him upset like this.   “You know where I am, if you change your mind,” she says as she leaves.

"Garry's not closing now!"

Gerwyn arrives back home at number 10, and informs Jaclyn, “You’re not going to believe this, but Garry’s not closing now – he wants me to take my old job back!   I don’t know why he has changed his mind.”

Jaclyn makes no comment

As Jaclyn does not make any reply,

"You didn't have anything to do with it, did you?"

he wonders, “You didn’t have anything to do with it, did you?   You’ve already tried to change his mind once.”

She denies that the decision is anything to do with her;

"I tried, and it didn't work"

when she tried to persuade him, it did not work.   “Perhaps he decided that closing the garage was a bad business decision,” she suggests,

"Are you happy to stay on?"

“Are you happy to stay on?”

"It's not as if I've had a better offer"

He replies that it is not as if he has had a better offer, so he might as well take advantage, while he looks for something else.

“We can pay the bills now,” she points out,

Jaclyn is considering new bedroom curtains

and was thinking that she would get new curtains for the bedroom;  he remarks that she can get the duvet cover too, if she wants.   Jaclyn looks uneasy.

"I'm worse that Hywel Llywelyn!"

At Maes-y-Deri, DJ is groaning, “There’s no point denying it – I’m worse than Hywel Llywelyn!   I’m the first to point the finger –

"Ping-ponging between two women!"

“and here I am, ping-ponging between two women, just like him!”

"Things are complicated at the moment"

Non tells him that things are complicated at the moment, but he continues, “Don’t make excuses for me – I’ve hurt you, I’ve hurt Sioned –

"I've hurt everyone, and it's not right"

“I’ve hurt everyone, and it’s not right!”

“It feels right, doesn’t it?” she says, “You know that, I know that, so . . .”   He stops her there,

"The two of us together – you cwtching me"

but she admits she cannot stop thinking about the other day;  “The two of us together – you cwtching me – tickling my back – kissing me.”

She moves towards him

All the time she is gradually moving closer to him, and he complains that it is wrong – but does not appear to be taking any action to put the matter right.   “Is it?” she demands.

"Why do you need four saucepans?"

Luned is packing her car, and Rhys enquires why she needs four saucepans;

"Thanks for the prosecco!"

she thanks him for the bottle of prosecco, and he suggests, “If you share that with your new flatmates, you’ll be very popular!”

"Are you leaving today?"

Guto approaches and is surprised that Luned is leaving today;  he wishes her good luck, but she says she will be coming back often, “To see this hottie!”

Coming for a run, Guto?"

Ffion is going for a 5k run and invites Guto to join her;

Off they go for a 5k run

he wishes Luned a safe journey and they head off on their run.

DJ is getting dressed . . .

DJ is just putting on his T-shirt and asks Non,

. . . as is Non . . .

who is buttoning herself up, if she is OK.   Then they hear the front door,

. . . but he is disturbed when putting on his trousers

and DJ very hurried puts on his trousers, but on his way to escape via the back door, is seen by Mark.

"What the hell?"

“What the hell?” he shouts, and it is blatantly obvious to him what has been going on.

"How long has this been going on?"

“You’re getting married in a few weeks, and you're half naked here?   How long as this been going on?   Is it a one-off?”

Non explains that it is complicated,

"I've been up at Penrhewl – and you were here!"

and Mark rages, “I’ve been up at Penrhewl – Sioned was busy ordering wedding favours, and you were here!”

DJ's trousers should now be prevented from falling down

DJ now appears to have finished doing up his trousers and pleads with Mark not to tell her.

"Sioned has a right to know!"

“She has a right to know!” Mark insists, but he is begged not to say anything, as DJ does not want to hurt Sioned.   “You’re in no position to ask for favours, good boy!” Mark snarls,

"Go, DJ – I'll be in touch later"

and Non instructs DJ to go;  she will be in touch later.

"Well – what have you got to say?"

When he has gone, Mark wants to know what Non has to say for herself, but she remains silent.

Everything is now packed in the car

Rhys closes the boot of the car and tells Luned that she is ready to go;  “I’m going to miss you,” she sighs,

"I don't want to leave you, Rhys"

“I don’t want to go – I don’t want to leave you.”   He reminds her that he will be in Cardiff with her this weekend;

"I realise I'm completely gorgeous"

he realises that he is completely gorgeous, but is sure that she can live without him until then – although of course it will be very difficult.

"Your ego is very offputting!"

“Your ego is very offputting!” she comments, and is becoming rather emotional as she assures him that she loves him.

Guto seems to be affected by her departure

As she starts the engine Ffion and Guto return from their 5k run, and Ffion tells him to come back to her flat for a cup of tea;  he seems upset that Luned is leaving.

"We wouldn't do it lightly – I love him!"

At Maes-y-Deri, Non is telling Mark, “I know it’s wrong, but we wouldn’t do it lightly – I love DJ, you know that!”

"But he loves Sioned!"

He reminds her that DJ loves Sioned, otherwise he would not be marrying her.

"He loves me, too!"

She is insistent, “He loves me too!”

“He’s told you that, has he?   That he loves you both?” Mark demands, and she says that he has.

"He's using you to have a bit of fun"

“You’re so naïve, aren’t you?   Can’t you see he’s using you just to have a bit of fun before he gets married?” he goes on, but she appears determined that he will not be not getting married.

"He'll realise I'm the one for him"

“He’s going to realise it’s a mistake – and I’m the one for him,” Non exclaims, and she believes that DJ will cancel the wedding after making all the arrangements.   Mark urges her to do the right thing and just walk away, but she is convinced, “We’re meant to be together – I can’t explain it – I just know.”

“You honestly want to be with a man you can’t trust?” Mark demands, but she answers that she does trust him.

Jaclyn sits in the Deri

In the Deri, Jaclyn sits, deep in thought;

"Thanks for giving Ger his job back"

when Garry comes in, she thanks him for changing his mind about the garage and for giving Gerwyn his job back.

She assumes it is because of the other day

“I take it that it’s because of the other day.”

"I didn't want to make life more difficult for you"

He says that he does not want to make life more difficult for her.

"And for not telling him that I came over"

She is also grateful to him for not revealing to her husband that she had been over;

"You don't want me to tell him about this little chat, either?"

“I take it you don’t want me to tell him about this little chat either,” he assumes.

"We had a lot of fun – bit I got hurt as well"

She acknowledges that they both had a lot of fun, but she got hurt as well.

He confesses that so did he, and she considers that the best thing to do is to move on;  “And no more meeting alone like this.”

"It was you who came over to see me"

Garry reminds her that she came over to see him the other day, and again today, but she replies that it was because of Gerwyn.

“I’m not saying we can’t talk or anything,” she goes on,

"Perhaps we should keep at arm's length"

“But perhaps we should keep at arm’s length – two metres – that’s what would be best for both of us.”

"If that's what you want"

He agrees to this, but she repeats that she really does appreciate him keeping garage open.   He wears a look of disappointment.

Hywel informs Izzy that her mother did not sleep all night;

"She's not in her own bed"

“It doesn’t help that she’s not sleeping in her own bed,” Izzy comments, and asks if the police have said when they will get their furniture back.   He answers that it should be the end of the week.

"I don't know what's wrong with her"

“I don’t know what’s wrong with her – she says she feels guilty because Angharad’s in a coma, but I’m not sure about that.   I think she’s angry with me because I didn’t believe her.”

Their conversation is being overheard

Meanwhile Gaynor has quietly come downstairs and listens to them.

"I'm sure she's still in shock"

Izzy does not think that is the reason;  “Mam understands that Angharad deceived us all – I’m sure she’s still in shock – trauma, perhaps.”   Hywel had been hoping she would feel better now that it is all over,

This is preying on Gaynor's mind

but Izzy insists that it will take time, as Angharad has been playing games with her mother for weeks – months, even.   It is bound to have affected her.

"I thought I heard voices"

Gaynor now joins them;  “I thought I heard voices,” she says,

"Do you feel better after some sleep?"

and Izzy asks if she feels better after some sleep.   Hywel has to go back to CwmFM and will see them later.

"Hywel thinks I'm a good person"

“He’s so protective of me,” Gaynor sighs, “He thinks I’m a good person –

"I would have killed Angharad!"

“but if you hadn’t turned up when you did, I’d have killed Angharad!”

"That's not true, Mam!"

Izzy assures her that is not true.

"I saw an opportunity, and almost took it"

“I saw an opportunity, and I almost took it,” sobs her mother, “I have to tell the truth about what happened – I can’t keep this from him.”

"Were you upset to see her leave?"

Ffion asks if Guto was upset to see Luned leave, and although he says he was not, she could see the look on his face.   He confesses that he used to like her a lot, but it is a while ago.   “Was she your first girlfriend?” Ffion enquires, and he nods.

"What would have happened if I hadn't slept with Sioned?"

“I just wonder what would have happened if I hadn’t slept with Sioned,” he groans,

"Sioned?"

and this revelation comes as a surprise to Ffion.   “We had a ‘one-night-stand’ – I had hoped that Luned would forgive me.   We had started to get closer again after lockdown – and then Rhys came on the scene.

"Never mind – she's gone to Cardiff now"

“Never mind – she’s gone to Cardiff now, so that’s it.   I’ll find someone else – someone better.”

"That's a rather personal question!"

He asks if Ffion is jealous, now that Luned is with Rhys, and she regards that as rather a personal question.   “No, she’s welcome to him – Rhys is too immature for me – he slept with Sioned as well!”

"Rhys was with Sioned?"

Guto is very surprised by that.

"That was partly why I was drinking"

Ffion goes on, “We got through it, but that’s partly why I was drinking so much – so many men have had affairs behind my back, and I’ve never known how to deal with it without alcohol.”

"I'm sorry that happened to you"

Guto is very sorry that happened to her, but she stresses that is not the answer;

"That's why I don't want you to turn to drugs"

“That’s why I don’t want you to turn to drugs when you find it hard to deal with your feelings.   What we need to do is talk – but I do understand that it’s difficult sometimes.   What you need is a hobby, something to occupy your mind.

"I've joined the Spanish course"

He says that he has joined the Spanish course, and Ffion recalls that he was always good with languages at school.

DJ does not look pleased with himself

DJ sits at the bar in the Deri, looking downhearted, when Non comes in, and informs him that Mark will not say a word;

"If you want to marry Sioned, fine, but . . ."

“But we can’t carry on like this,” she adds, “If you want to marry Sioned, fine, but you have to finish with me.”

"I don't want to do that"

DJ does not want to do that, so she demands, “Will you end things with Sioned?” but he says it is not as simple as that.

"You can't have two women"

“I know you don’t want to hurt her, and I admire you for that, but you can’t have two women!” she instructs him,

DJ says he will tell Sioned today

and he reluctantly says that he will have a word with Sioned.   “I knew I could trust you,” she says, smiling, and wishes him good luck.

"You didn't do anything to Angharad"

“I understand that you feel terrible,” Izzy tells her mother, “But there is nothing to tell Hywel – you didn’t do anything to Angharad.”

Gaynor protests that she would have done, if Izzy had not turned up;

"I was so angry with her!"

“I was so angry with her!” she rages,

"You're just protecting Hywel"

but Izzy insists that she is protecting Hywel by not telling him – and protecting their relationship, as there is no telling how he might respond.

“I think he has a right to know what kind of person I am,” her mother argues,

"A person who would be willing to murder someone!"

“A person who would be willing to murder someone!”

"You'll ruin your relationship!"

Izzy answers, “If you tell Hywel, Angharad will win – because you’ll destroy your relationship.   Don’t risk it – what you need to do now is forget about what you almost did, and focus on the fact that Angharad is finally out of your life.

"Do you want to lose him for something you almost did?"

“Do you really want to lose Hywel because of something you almost did?   Because of one moment of madness?   Trust me on this – you know I’m talking sense.”

Gaynor halfheartedly agrees

Gaynor agrees, but only reluctantly, that this will be their little secret.

DJ tries to hide his feelings

When DJ returns to the farmhouse, he tries to put on a brave face.

"We can make the most of the empty house"

Sioned has a surprise for him;  “I wanted to do something nice for you – Mam’s taken Huwi out for a walk, and I thought we could make the most of the empty house.   You deserve it!   You make me so happy!

"We can take this bottle upstairs . . ."

“To be honest, you’ve made me quite soppy!   The casserole is going to be about half an hour, so I thought we could take this bottle upstairs.”

Off she goes, enthusiastically

As she goes up there,

Does DJ have the stamina for this?

DJ is looking even more guilty.
