Aled has the nibbles to take to the salon

The preparations are in full swing for the opening of the new salon;

"Then you can come back for the glasses"

Dani instructs Aled after he has taken over the nibbles from the Deri, he should collect the glasses.

"I am rather nervous"

Aled is looking forward eagerly to this event, although he is rather nervous.

"Nerves are OK – that's what I've been telling myself"

“Nerves are OK,” Dani assures him, “That’s what I’ve been telling myself since 4:00am!”

"He's trying hard"

As she picks up the case of four bottles of prosecco, she tells Tyler, “He’s a good groomer – he’s trying hard.”

"Yes, too hard!"

Tyler remarks that he is trying too hard, but Dani is just hoping that things will go OK;  he is confident that the place will be full.

"Yes, I'll be there, Dani"

Iolo comes in, and she wants to know if he will be at the launch;  he says that he will.   Tyler is still worried about Iolo and asks if he is all right;

"Mustn't keep Dr Morgan waiting"

“Come on – we don’t want to keep Dr Morgan waiting,” he replies.

"Yes, that's right, Mathew"

Dani is instructing Mathew on the correct positioning of his APD advertising message and then sees Eileen approaching;

"Everyone's welcome at two o'clock!"

“Don’t forget about the launch at two o’clock, everyone’s welcome – spread the word,” but she does not reply.

"Does that invitation include me?"

Then Dylan emerges from the alley, asking if the invitation includes him,

"No welcome for a coward like you!"

but she answers, “No – there’s no welcome for a coward like you!”

“Oh, that’s what you think I am – just because I won’t play happy families with Aled?” he says,

"You're scared of being a father!"

and she tells him that he is scared – scared of being a father.

Dylan thinks a change of plan is necessary

As she clatters away in her high heels, he is made to think.

Lisa follows Tesni into number 10

Tesni comes in through the back door of number 10 and is followed by Lisa, who says that she has dropped her glove.

"I've got an idea for the business"

“Look, I was thinking about coming over later,” Tesni begins, “I’ve got an idea for the business.”

"So you're staying in Cwmderi, then?"

Lisa is pleased to hear that she is staying in Cwmderi, as good workers are rare, but seems in a hurry to leave, suggesting that Tesni should come over about three o’clock.

"I was going to the salon launch"

“I was going to the salon launch – aren’t you going?” Tesni asks, but Lisa does not like dogs;

"I could make a late lunch"

she says that she could make a late lunch, and Tesni agrees to come, if Lisa is going to any trouble.

Tesni still has designs on Lisa

Tesni still appears to suspect that there is something between them.

"Are you ignoring me, Aled?"

Aled comes back into the Deri and begins to pack glasses into a case;  Dylan arrives and assumes that Aled is ignoring him;  “I’m busy!” is the abrupt reply.

"I want to give it a go"

“I’ve been thinking – I may have been a bit hasty about you and me – I want to give it a go,” says Dylan.   This surprises Aled, as he continues, “I want to be a father to you – if you want me to be.”

"That's rather a U-turn!"

Aled regards this as rather a U-turn, and in that case, Dylan tells him to forget it;  “No, I didn’t say that – but why today?   Why now?”

"I don't want to make the same mistake again"

His father tells him that he has been thinking, and that he has made a mistake;  he does not want to repeat the same mistake.

"I've never been a father before"

“I want to be a father to you, but I’ve never done it before,” Dylan says, putting on a show of emotion, “There’s no guarantee it will work out, and it might be a disaster, but . . .”

"But it might be nice"

Aled adds that it might be nice, and Dylan is pleased to see that his plan is working.

"I'll see you at the launch later, then"

“I’ll see you at the launch later, then,” he says as he leaves.

They are back from the surgery

Iolo and Tyler are back from the doctor’s, and Tyler recommends that Iolo should go private for a scan;

"So you know if it's something to worry about"

“So we know whether the lump is something to worry about.”

"It's rare in someone under 60"

Dr Morgan had told them that breast cancer is rare for men younger than 60, and that it was probably fatty tissue or hormones.

"You might have to wait months, Iol"

Tyler hopes that he was right, but if they do not go private, Iolo may have to wait months for confirmation.

"You'll only worry and worry"

“Isn’t it better to have a scan now?” he demands, “I know you, and I know that until you have a clear scan, you’ll worry and worry that you have cancer – don’t pretend otherwise!”

Iolo is determined to wait for the NHS

Iolo angrily replies, “We’re not together, and I want to wait for an NHS appointment!”

"You're still important to me"

Tyler reminds him that he is still Greta’s father;  “And you’re still important to me.

He is urged to do it for Greta — and for Tyler

“If you won’t go private for a scan for yourself, do it for Greta – and me.”

The impressive new salon

In the doorway of the smartly refurbished salon, with its ‘CHI A’R CI’ name board, Dani is waiting for the customers to arrive.

"All the flyers have been delivered, Dani"

Aled comes in from the back and confirms that he took every one of the flyers around the village, just as she instructed.

"Even Tyler isn't here!

“Where is everyone, then?   Even Tyler isn’t here!” she complains.   Aled was expecting him to be there on the dot, and Dani decides to take the balloons outside.

Here comes Dylan, complete with bottle

Dylan comes round the corner by the chippy with a bottle in his hand;

"I told you, you're not welcome"

he is again informed that he is not welcome, but thought she would be pleased as no-one else has turned up.

"We've decided to give things a go"

Aled comes out and tells her he is happy for his father to come in;  “We’ve decided to give things a go.”

"No nonsense, mind!"

Dani is puzzled by this abrupt change of mind, but warns him that there is to be no nonsense.

Dani looks anxiously over her shoulder

She is becoming rather frustrated by the lack of interest.

"I wonder how it's going over there"

Eileen meets Anita, who wonders how it is going over there;  she asks Eileen whether she is going to the launch.

"I'm not going to a salon where they groom dogs!"

“I’m not going to a salon where they groom dogs as well!” she sneers, turning up her nose.   Anita thinks this is rather odd, coming from someone who lives on a farm.

"Special offer, ladies – 20% off any appointment"

Aled comes out of the salon and invites the ladies in;  “We’ve got a special offer – 20% off any appointment – we’ve got prosecco and nibbles –

Anita likes the sound of free prosecco

“we want to spoil you, so come and take a look.”

Then Aled looks across the road . . .

Then he notices Tyler

. . . and sees Tyler come out of number 7

coming out of the door of number 7 and points out that he is half an hour late;

"What were you doing with Iolo?"

he is also eager to know what Tyler was doing with Iolo.

"Stop being so paranoid, will you?"

“Stop being so paranoid, will you?” Tyler snarls, and storms off back to the Deri.   Aled follows him.

Anita suggests that they go and have a look, but Eileen has a stocktake to do at the shop;

"Give my regards to the Chihuahuas!"

“Give my regards to the Chihuahuas!” she says.

"We need to make the place look busy!"

In the Deri, Aled continues haranguing Tyler;  “There’s no-one there except Dylan and Mathew – we need to make the place look busy!”

"I just want five minutes to myself"

Tyler just wants five minutes to himself, but Aled will not stop his demands;

"Dani won't understand where we are"

“Dani won’t understand where we are.”

"Some things are more important than the salon launch!"

“Some things are more important than the salon launch, Aled!” shouts Tyler, but Aled will not accept that, not today.

"Are you saying I'm not important to you?"

“Or are you saying that I’m not important to you any more?” he wants to know, and when there is no immediate answer, he knows that something is wrong.

"I think we should finish, sorry!"

“Things haven’t been right for a while – I think we should finish, sorry,” Tyler tells him, and goes upstairs.   Aled once again follows him and, up in the flat, demands what he has done wrong, as he must have done something.

"I thought we were happy"

“I thought we were happy – what happened?   And don’t say ‘nothing’!   Things can’t be fine one minute, and the next minute they’re not.”

Tyler says that he did a lot of thinking while he was away;

"I don't feel 100% about the relationship"

“I realised that I don’t feel 100% about the relationship.”

"We can fix the problem"

Aled points out that he loves Tyler, and that they can fix the problem,

"I don't want to fix it!"

but Tyler makes it quite clear that he does not want to fix it.

"I don't want to be with you any more"

“I don’t want to be harsh, but I don’t want to be with you any more!” he exclaims;

"Why today, of all days?"

Aled just does not understand, and demands why he would do this today, of all days.   “I’m not trying to hurt you – I’m trying to be honest!” Tyler snarls,

"I don't love you!"

“I don’t love you!   I’m sorry, but I don’t!”   Aled is devastated and runs from the room.

"Lunch will be twenty minutes"

Tesni arrives at number 9 and is told that lunch will be about 20 minutes;  “It’s one of Bryn’s recipés,” says Lisa, “I’m curious about the business idea you’ve got.”

"Uncle Dyl says simple ideas are the best"

Tesni explains that it is simple;  “But Uncle Dyl says the simple ideas are usually the best.

"What if I started chatting to women as well?"

“What if I started chatting to women as well as men?”   Lisa had not considered that.

"I've never talked dirty to a woman before"

“I’ve never talked dirty to a woman before, and it might be bizarre to start with, but I’m willing to give it a try.   How hard can it be?   We talk any old rubbish with men, so why not with women –

"If they're foolish enough to pay for it?"

“if they’re foolish enough to pay for it?”

"I'm not one to exploit customers"

Lisa appears shocked by this proposal;  “It’s not rubbish – and I’m not one to exploit customers.

"I want it to be an honest business"

“I want it to be an honest business that my customers can trust.”   Tesni cannot believe that she is serious.

"Have you seen Aled?"

Outside the salon, Dani asks Mathew if he has seen Aled;  “He is supposed to usher people in.”

Mathew was hoping for some publicity

Mathew is concerned that nobody has turned up, as he was hoping people would come and then the book APD to do work for them.

"People said nice things about the refurb"

She remarks that people have said nice things about the refurb, but he considers, “Perhaps you shouldn’t have launched this afternoon – people work during the week – you should have waited until the weekend.”

"My business, my decision, Mathew"

She stresses that it is her business and her decision.

"Come and take a look, Anita"

Anita comes out of the café and is invited to come and take a look,

Mathew is downhearted

but Mathew is looking very discouraged.

Lisa is anxious to make a success of the business, and Tesni is adamant that there is money to be made;

"I'd never talk to someone like Ieuan Griffiths . . ."

“But there’s nothing honest about it!   I’d never talk to someone like Ieuan Griffiths in the real world!

". . . I wouldn't even look at the pig!"

“I wouldn’t even look at the pig!”

"They pay your wages, so show some respect!"

Lisa objects to her calling one of her customers that;  “They pay your wages, so show some respect!”   Tesni is quite clear that there is nothing respectable about what they do.   “Providing company – comfort for people who are lonely?   Cheering up the sad?” suggests Lisa.

"You're not Mother Teresa!"

Tesni laughs that she is not Mother Teresa, but Lisa reminds her,

"Perhaps you should reconsider going to London"

“What we do is legit – and if you’re going to belittle our customers, you’re in the wrong business.   Perhaps you should reconsider going to London, after all – I don’t like your attitude.”

"You're very cold!"

Tesni describes her as very cold, and she recalls that she has been called worse;

"You know where the door is!"

“If you can’t respect the customers – you know where the door is!”

"20% off today, Anita"

Once again, Dani comes out of the salon, looking for customers.   She gives Anita the hard sell;  “If you book today, 20% off, so you can have your roots done for £29,

"It will make your hair silky and soft"

“and hot oil treatment – it will make your hair silky and soft.”

"I can't bear all that faff!"

Anita imagines that it would make hair very greasy;  “I can’t bear all that faff!” she scowls.   Dani insists that it is nice to try something different, and then her mood changes when Aled approaches.

"Where have you been?"

She angrily demands where he has been.

"Tyler dumped me!"

He is obviously very upset, and announces that Tyler has dumped him, which infuriates Dani.   She encourages Anita to go back inside and look at the dog stuff.

"I haven't got a dog, Dani"

“I haven’t got a dog,” is her reply, but Dani suggests that she might buy one some day, and finally Anita takes the hint.

"He doesn't feel 100% about us any more"

Dani demands what happened and is told, “He doesn’t feel 100% about us any more, apparently – after everything we’ve been through,

"He doesn't want me any more!"

“he doesn’t want me any more – but I still love him – really love him!”

All this stress has affected the colitis

Tesni is back home and is in a terrible state, apparently with the colitis flaring up again;

Tesni curls up in the armchair

she curls up tearfully in the armchair.

"Please text me to say you're OK"

Tyler is leaving a message on his phone;  “I know you’re probably still angry with me – I don’t want us to argue, OK?   And I’ll support you whatever – please text me to say you’re OK.”

"I could strangle you!"

There is the sound of footsteps coming up the stairs and Dani rushes in;  “I could strangle you!” she yells, “Did you have to finish with him today, of all days?”

"Things haven't been right for a while"

He explains that things haven’t been right for a while, but she goes on, “Today, Tyler?”   He explains that he did not plan it.

"Today was important to me – and him!"

Dani stresses, “Today was important to him – and to me – but you didn’t let that stop you!   No – and now my head groomer is heartbroken in the salon – how do you think that looks, Tyler?   No one will book a pamper package now – they’ll just talk about you!”

"No-one was there, anyway"

He protests that no-one was there anyway, and she continues,

"No – including my brother!"

“No – including my brother!   You should have been there at two!”

"You're angry because no-one turned up"

He accuses her of being angry simply because no-one turned up.

"Yes  I'm angry . . ."

Dani reaches a crescendo, “Yes – I’m angry!   I’m disappointed in the people around here, but do you know what?

". . . but you've disappointed me more than anyone!"

“You’ve disappointed me more than anyone!”
